Two weeks later and people are STILL raving about the fantastic food and service Pino and his crew provided for my daughters wedding.Their catering is top notch! The food was amazing, the staff was courteous and pleasant, and Pino saw that every last detail was taken care of. These people clearly love what they’re doing.Don’t hesitate to hire P&M for your next gathering. You won’t be disappointed!
Great sandwiches and great vibe outside. The grocery selection is sort of small and pricey but has most necessities. Nice to pair with a beer from next door! No bathroom... Closest might be Archie moores
Food was fresh and fast. Quite the well oiled machine. It was packed, yet my guest and I were able to order and get out in 5 minutes. Definitely a neiborhood landmark!
Lovely neighborhood market.
I have lived and worked in the East Rock neighborhood for many years and P&M Orange Street Market is a staple in my life. Whether its to pick up milk or another staple on the way home or to buy a freshly made delicious meal for my family at the end of a busy day, P&M is a lifesaver. What makes the experience so wonderful is the staff. I know each of them by name and they know me by name. The gals up front at the register are consistently welcoming, friendly, and helpful. The folks behind the deli line are always working hard and quickly while still taking the time to ask how my day is going or to circle back to a conversation we might have been having the previous time I was in the store. Pino the owner and Barbara the manager are always on hand for questions, special orders, or just a friendly hello. The wonderful outdoor seating area has always been a plus but now, during the pandemic, it is a safe and easy place to meet up with a friend or a colleague for lunch or a snack. P&M is a family owned neighborhood business that is part of the fabric of the neighborhood and treats everyone like family. A true gem!
Nahhh, gave them 5, but going down to 2 because this is the second time I ordered and they didn’t make the sandwich as prescribed on the menu. Spinach is NOT basil. Slow down. Be mindful of your ingredients to meals.
Dont order paninis here, or you will end end up wasting $8-$10. I used to really love P&M, but the last few times I have ordered paninis from them, they have been incredibly sub-par, whether because they were missing ingredients or just did not taste good. I decided to give them one last go tonight - I ordered the East Rocker and instead received a panini with a thick, horrible layer of prosciutto. The bread was cut unevenly, the red peppers were soggy, and it was just gross overall. Never buying food from here again.
I’ve been going to this store for a while, tried almost everything on the menu, and created great relationships with everyone at p&m! Great customer service and recently really positive experiences despite the pandemic. I definitely recommend to anyone visiting or living in New Haven!
I asked for a veggie sandwich without cheese which deli worker agreed to and then they gave me basically just zucchini and cheese. It took forever, too. P&M needs to make new menu items so that the deli workers can follow a procedure because a verbal agreement is too difficult, apparently.
Not sure what happened to the place. The steak and cheese sub was much smaller than last time I had one around this time last year. Additionally, the meat had an awful crumbled textured. Not enough cheese. I use to always recommend this place but I won’t anymore.
Their sandwiches are really good, The salad options are pricey but solid choices, and the hot specials are good. However, I do not recommend that you try to do their online ordering for quick and easy pick up. I got a phone call that they were not doing soups after they were listed on the online menu, something that I’m sure could be updated on a daily basis if they are just not carrying any soups for the entire day. And then I was missing a sandwich and the soda I got was warm well the two other sodas ordered for perfectly cold. Overall I will never use the online ordering system again, going in to the ordering process I thought it was going to be great, however it does not seem as though their inventory, employees, or overall system is made to handle online orders. The food deserves a solid 4 1/2 stars, however their online ordering system is a complete fail. If this was my first time ever going to this location I would never come back.
Cannot make a sandwich to order 3 times I order no lettuce or tomato always get lettuce and tomato today I didnt even get the sandwich I ordered never going back I rather starve
Very expensive food and very low quality. The chicken parm was good flavor but the quality of the meat was atrocious and almost no chicken. The chicken was chewy and dark, it just looked and tasted disgusting.
Staff has gotten my order wrong multiple times or even forget about it at all, the sandwiches are not usually worth the wait. I suggest staff gets trained on how to get orders for the future.
Great environment, delicious food, fast service. Manager was incredibly nice and helpful. Cute little outdoor area to enjoy your food. Definitely will be going back!
Very bad customer service, rude and unfriendly, I came here a lot out of necessity and was always filled with dread upon walking in. But now that I’m moving I can genuinely say that a weight has been lifted. Also never order the chicken, it’s always terrible, dry, and overcooked to the point of putrefaction
Good sandwiches
Had a negative experience today. On Saturday they had one cashier of two taking a huge catering order which created a long line across the store. When I finally came up to the cashier on the left (not the one taking the catering order) and said that it isnt convenient for costumers, she responded quite rudely that they do what they can. Not sorry, no nothing. It is discouraging.
Amazing food
Good produce and cheese selection, amazing sandwiches
Food is great a lot to choose from havent had a bad sandwich yet
Amazing sandwiches at a good price. The cooking staff are really friendly, but I would appreciate friendlier staff at checkout. Coffee is good and always fresh, usually have good deals, and they have a lovely outdoor area with loads and people and dogs. They also show big sports events!
Love p&m
In a small local supermarket I am willing to accept higher prices compared to bigger ones. Also because the quality of products is usually very good. However, customers seem to be considered a necessary nuisance. It is difficult to get a hello, thank you, or a straight look in the eyes by the people working there including management. Cashiers are usually busy chatting across counters or doing other stuff and it is obvious that they would rather like not to be distributed.
One of the best markets in the area for lunch! They have great selection with plentiful salads and delicious sandwiches and wraps. We order lunch from P&M on a regular basis and it is always on time and fresh. As a bonus, it is always a pleasure to see their delivery man, Bruce and Pino, the owner, is a class act.
I mean dont get me wrong P&M is a good store, but just because there are surrounded Yale students, it doesnt give the employer/associate a chance to pick and choose who to be nice to. I mean the servers, the cooks, the people walking around the store consolidating, organizing, putting things away, are grate and helpful to The customer. Theres this one elderly lady with glasses, that chooses to be nice when she wants to, that is not a good look for P&M and for there customer service. Me being, Womens Polo Specialist, just reminds me of how people with some power could try or think they could belittle people when their day is not going to good, to look good in front of other customers.
My boyfriend and I have gotten lunch here once or twice a week for the last year.Typically, things are fine. Occasionally, the prepared foods were lukewarm or seemed like they’d been sitting out for a long time. Otherwise, no complaints. The last couple times we visited, we noticed that the prepared foods smelled strongly of cigarettes.Additionally, we’ve purchased ice cream a few times recently only to discover that the ice cream had melted and partially re-frozen.
Love the sandwiches here, pickup is easy and quick. Friendly people.
The new guys in the deli are great! No more mistakes with my subs, last 3 orders had issues. You do need to change the menu board prices to reflect the new prices, was surprised my sub was $1.50 more than I usually pay. Still a good value.
Convenient location. Good hours. This closes at 8p in the summer, which makes a real difference. They have courteous staff who are ready to help. It is a lovely neighborhood market
I go to P&M at least once a day, sometimes twice! The staff is friendly, the breakfast sandwiches are huge and reasonably priced, different lunch specials every day! They also have ample outdoor seating for nice days. I cant recommend this place enough.
Great little corner market/deli. A little pricey, but a good selection of prepared food, sandwiches, bakery and grocery items. Also, when its warm, get a bottle of wine next door and sit to eat outside.
I ordered sandwiches for a group dinner. Food was delivered on time, and was fresh and delicious. Ill happily order from P&M again.
I have been going to P&M for the last few years. It’s very convenient and close to work. However, I was there today and I heard the cashier being extremely and unnecessarily rude and sarcastic to another customer. It’s unfortunate to see some people being treated poorly in an establishment you generally enjoy. It ruins the atmosphere and appeal of shopping at a cute locally owned market.
Saying 4 but, only because One of the sandwiches we ordered was amazing and the other sadly lacking in basil. But, Im inclined to say 3 because so.muxh else looked great. Impressed by the look of the butcher shop. Really great looking boneless pork chops for short money!
I go all the time for sandwiches, salads, and groceries. My experiences have all been very good. I especially like the Cobb salad - it is absolutely massive (even the smaller size).
Great service and prices! When the weather is fine, that’s the place to go!
P & M is the only spot I eat eggplant parm besides my moms cooking, its my go to when I come here, everything is always so fresh, even when you have things catered. Orange street location has outdoor seating with thr packy next door so its the best of both worlds for ya!! You will not be disappointed whether your grabbing lunch, something you forgot at the bigger chain store or catering a whole family feast they have you covered!!
Great sandwiches and atmosphere. Nice outdoor seating area.
Great wraps & cookies. Outstanding pies for the holidays. Yummy!
Delicious food and great service! The extensive, freshly made menu is delightful! The fast and friendly service is exceptional! Their catering services are top notch! A New Haven MUST!
Nice staff, but terrible quality meats. I had the Chicken Flag and it was a terrible. Old cold chicken, cheap mozzarella, dry. Ive had a good panini from P&M but never their breaded chicken which is refrigerated after frying and it may be days old, or their mozzarella which is processed. This one was far from good. The chicken was cold, old, dried, and it tasted funny. The tomatoes were too ripe and bland and the mozzarella was rubery and tasteless. I asked for the panini to be heated longer and still was not enough. The bread was a soggy mess. Im very disappointed and upset. My lunch was ruined and I couldnt go back due to the time.
Long time customer who enjoys and prefers P&M to the other local Delis. Walked in during a quiet time and sadly the employee behavior was clear that management took a step out of the building. I was basically ignored as two employees had a personal conversation across the counter. Once I was served, the cashier seemed annoyed that i took her away from her texting. She did not even bother to hide her phone and the only words I got out of here was when she muttered Do you want a bag. No hello, thank you, etc. I will be back since P&M is one of my favorites, but today was disappointing.
Delicious sandwiches. I recommend the Vesuvio and the Latino. I also recommend signing up for Spots on the tablet at the register. You earn one for every visit and they can be redeemed for coffee, salad, sandwiches, desserts, fruit, discounts, etc.
Great Sandwiches. Counter help is very friendly. Coffee is fantastic.
Best food around, Italian style market. Hot prepared food, sandwiches, salads. Deli, full service butcher, great coffee. All around a gem in East Rock.
Great local market. Have most of the key ingredients you would need in a pinch. Good hot lunch buffet.
Awesome food and Customer service. Prices are reasonable
I had to give another feedback. Since my last complaint regarding the unprofessional cashiers, your service has changed to better. I actually don’t see those cashiers who really did not have clue about their job. I am glad to see that you have changed.
Usually go here all the time and it is great. The food this this weekend just all tasted like cigarettes, had to throw everything out.
Great foods and staff
Lots of stuff crammed into a small space, including a deli, hot foods, bakery, refrigerator items, and some fun imports.
Great selection, friendly atmosphere. Bit pricey for certain things, but definitely a better experience than going to some giant faceless supermarket.
Fantastic meats
The owner pino treats his employees horrible and disrespects them in front of everyone. The food sucks its old sitting there all day. I live in this neighborhood and this place sucks I dont know how people eat there. My daughter and wife went there and alot of stuff on the shelf is outdated. We go to nicas they are way better. Food is way overpriced. We got chicken cutlets once to make for dinner they smelled horrible. Never again will I go there.
Been going here for 45 years. Gets better all the time!
I like....its a gooood. Very nice.
Chicken Flag for the WIN. My new favorite deli. Keep up the delicious food.
Best in town..Jimmy an Allen are great...been going there since 96...best meat department...Jimmy ..you are the man...the Frenchman Alain.
Great food, nice and good choice of imported Italian products, really friendly, i like it
Good place to grab a quick coffee, but not a place for groceries. Feels like some of their products have been on the shelves too long.
Great focaccia sandwiches, fresh and tasty ingredients.
Great coffee, variety of high quality organic food - astonishing
Great food, great staff, great location.. Parking sucks but it sucks everywhere in New Haven.
Food is excellent, but sometimes the service comes with a side order of attitude...Or perhaps its rudeness, I get them confused sometimes.
Very good paninis.
Great food selections, reasonable prices.
A variety of grocery and food choices
Consistently great food
Very friendly and the food is great
Great service great food
A great local market
Home town shpp meets most of your needs
Friendly staff, great food 😀
It was very good
Warm and friendly staffs
Walked in at 7:58 pm. The guys at the sandwich counter ignored me for two minutes then denied me service cause they close at 8. Rude, lazy. Dont go here.
The best deli in New Haven
High quality food, but a bit expensive
Tasty and quick.
Food is good!
So rude!
