We happened upon this place by sheer luck on our last full day in New Orleans. I thought I had found all of the second hand/thrift/consignment stores in the area. They had so many unique pieces in good condition. The prices were also quite reasonable. After spending considerable time downstairs, we made our way up the stairs to the second floor. There we found a wonderful collection of vintage clothes, hats, gloves, handbags and more. My friend found an great full length black cape and I left with the coolest dark rose leather jacket. Now that I know about this place, Ill be stopping by whenever Im in town.

The owners are very friendly! They also have some pretty amazing finds. I managed to get two industrial steel lamps from here for a little over $100. They are on the pricey side in some regards, but not in any extremely bad way. If you look thoroughly you can actually find some great stuff for the price! Not that when I say pricey, I mean in regards to smaller objects. A small plant pot shouldnt cost $45 in my opinion. However, that doesnt stop this store from being a pleasing visit.

Ugh, I wanted to love everything about Merchant House—they truly offer such a beautiful selection of home goods. But unfortunately their customer service leaves some to be desired, especially for the amount they’re overcharging. I was sent home without the necessary parts to a piece of furniture I bought and when I called to ask about their whereabouts, I was told my memory was incorrect. I had to hound for two days to get a clear answer about something they misplaced and they still never owned up to it! They offered to reimburse me the costs of replacement, but the costs were negligible—the bad experience and the hassle was moreso the issue here. The piece I was sold also had an unsightly deep scratch/flaw that was disguised on the floor display and not disclosed even though I specifically asked imperfections to be pointed out to me. Check your furniture thoroughly, and know that they’re marking prices up excessively. You will find some beautiful things, and I’m not writing them off completely, but the antique stores I grew up visiting across the state prioritize small business ethics a lot better than this.Update: Ive never experienced a business gaslight and argue with customers like Merchant House - I was never shown the scratch until I realized the furniture was in two pieces at my home and they were only willing to work with me after I posted this review and only fulfilled all of the following they mention in their response after pressuring me to change what I said. Really strange people. Will not come back here again.

Merchant House always has a great selection of vintage/antique pieces, possibly the best in the city. My only critique would be that (as someone who visits similar places all over the south) the prices are generally a little off from the normal. However, there isn’t really “junk” here and you never have to dig to find something quality and unique. Definitely worth a visit every few weeks!

If you want your home to look fab, this is your place. Gorgeous vintage finds and the most attentive, caring, lovely people running it. It’s also the place to see and be seen, so watch for their sweet, socially-distanced events. Or, just go on a Saturday to browse. I absolutely love this place. This group of people is one of the best in the city with the loveliest aesthetics.

Great service, the coolest people, and amazing finds that you cant get anywhere else (and theyre constantly getting new one-of-a-kind pieces, so its always fresh and new). The concept itself is so cool and community-focused. Definitely add this spot to your list!

This is one of my favorite shops in New Orleans for wonderfully-curated and reasonably-priced antique and vintage finds. The owners and vendors have created a friendly and beautiful atmosphere for serious shopping and inspiration, with a great selection of furniture, decor, clothing and jewelry/accessories from a variety of vendors. I always end up spending more time than anticipated, talking with vendors and other shoppers. I love and appreciate that they champion local artists, and support and raise money for causes that I care about. Definitely recommend Merchant House to locals and visitors!

I have multiple pieces of furniture and art from Merchant House in my home. The vendors here are amazing and they go the extra mile to help you, whether it’s loading your car or responding immediately to online requests. In addition, their prices are incredible on one-of-a-kind vintage items. Visitors to my home regularly ask: where did you find THAT awesome piece?

Merchant House is my go to for all things vintage. Its a treasure trove of curated and hip furniture, baubles, clothing and (non vintage) plants. I always find something beautiful/interesting/surprising. I also lean on the MH team as my de facto group of design consultants and in-the-know fun people. Its on my short list for any visitor to New Orleans.

Merchant House is one of the best places in the city to search for home goods, rugs to furniture to house plants. Every week, the vendors have gorgeous new finds from estate sales across the South, and will graciously keep an eye out for specific items if you chat with them about what you seek, and price/size inquiries are always promptly answered via Instagram. Highly recommend stopping through on a First Thursday for the monthly pop-up featuring new artists, food venders and more.

This store gets items by sitting on Facebook marketplace, misusing peer-to-peer markets, then marking items up 300%. Unethical business practices.I’m trying to furnish my first apartment and can’t afford nice new furniture, so I’ve been trying on Facebook marketplace.6 days ago, I saw a set of unique vintage barstools that I liked on Facebook marketplace for $80. I loved them, they were perfect for my place. I messaged the seller that I could pick them up same day, and thought about how I’d clean and reupholster them - only to find out they were sold very soon after being listed. Made me sad, but it’s no big deal, until...When visiting Merchant House today, I saw the barstools - in the exact same condition they were on FB - for $225. Nearly a 3x markup for no more effort than anyone else in New Orleans would have to do to get the same barstools. They didn’t even clean or reupholster the fabric. They were a very unique structure and had distinct pattern fabric seats - nothing like I’d seen before, so there’s no question at all they were the stools I was gonna get for my own use.Only now, I would have to pay a 300% markup for nothing but the extra dust they got at this place. So lame. Its just shady and lazy business practices to act like you worked hard in sourcing items when you just sit on FB marketplace and stop your community from getting stuff at the price they could have. This is not normal consignment or thrifting. It’s exploitation of our affordable local peer-to-peer markets to get a 300% markup. That’s not what our community’s peer-to-peer markets are for. This is the same as Goodwill resellers who buy in bulk, stealing out the decent second hand items from those who actually need it, so that they can turn a profit. Ethical thrift stores don’t do this bc they see it as taking away decent options from low income individuals. This is NOT what local NOLA businesses are all about. It’s just not cool. Skip this place. We have plenty of amazing thrift and consignment stores that don’t do this.Update: immediately after posting my review they suddenly got 7 outstanding reviews in the last 20 minutes all suspiciously similar, going from 10 to 17 reviews. Yeah... okay 👀 in case there was any doubt they were shady, there ya go
