YUM!! These sandwiches were so good! Would reccomend getting the chicken warm sandwich on different bread because the ciabatta (?) was way too thick. Overall loved everything.

I go here for the BLTs on toasted sourdough w/ herbal mayo. There so good! They also have an interesting assortment of sandwiches, cheeses, chips & snacks. And if you call ahead your sandwiches will be ready to go when you get there.

My favorite sandwich place in the East Village! I love the “body builder” sandwich and for anyone who does eat meat, my advice is to add prosciutto. The team at Barnyard Cheese is so nice and you really can’t go wrong with anything you order.

Probably the best sandwich Ive had in New York - the Mexican Cuban. Employees are very nice. Only downside is that it can take quite some time during the lunch rush, so maybe call ahead or it can take a while.

Extremely rude. The sandwiches are incredible, but the woman at the cashier stand was downright nasty and mean to me, for no reason. I literally cried on my way home with my sandwich. You really shouldnt treat your customers like that. I dont care how good the food is, I dont make a habit of patronizing places that are abusive to their customers. So I write this to warn prospective sandwich eaters. Steer clear. Go to Maiden Lane instead.

Very rude service. It’s window-only, which is fine and reasonable. It is not reasonable to yell at people who open the unlocked door and then mock them for not reading the door signage. Be kind at a minimum, or lock the door.

Right now, theyre during window takeout because of COVID.Neither the person taking the order nor the chef wore a mask or gloves. (Absolutely shocking, when so many great restaurants in NYC are taking all the precautions necessary to keep their customers--and staff, for that matter--safe.

Cheese, sandwiches, salads - all select and well made. Their meatballs have become a staple for me. Very nice, friendly staff. Some seating, but limited. Lots of odds and ends that can be fun to poke around about. a great little neighborhood store in an area with limited grocery options.

What a find in the East East Village! We came home with practically one of everything in their case - several cheeses, pate, pesto, olives, fresh pasta and a 1/2 pound of freshly sliced prosciutto that tasted so good we are now planning another trip downtown.

Miserable cashier staff. She would not bill my credit card for a $9.20 purchase because of a $10 card minimum and gave an attitude. Tiny selection of cheeses and expensive. I miss east village cheese. Avoid.

If youre going to advertise a sandwich as being made with sourdough bread, dont substitute with a Pullman loaf of white bread without mentioning it beforehand.Love barnyard generally but if I wanted a grilled cheese I could have gotten at my local deli I would have gone there.

I stopped by here on the way to a bar in Alphabet City just to pick up a quick meal before drinks. Okay, maybe not quick (we probably waited about 15 minutes with one or two people before us). A friend and I ordered two sandwiches. They were a bit expensive for the area, but nothing that breaks the bank. They were pretty great though. I thought it was worth the wait while my friend with the black hole for a stomach thought wait was a bit too long. Id love to try out other items on their menu and window shop for the rest of the stuff they sell.

I came here after Hurricane Sandy after dropping of my pets medicine at the vet around the corner. This is in Zone A so I expected it to be sort of chaotic still. To my surprise, I found a cute cheese shop full of customers, waiting for their sandwich orders and cheese. After checking out reviews online, we ordered a sandwich to go and some cheese to take home with. We waited quite a long time for the sandwich but I guess that is the price you paid for for a fresh sandwich. The sandwich cost $10 and it uses the nice Italian proscuitto and mozzarella cheese. Honestly, I think the sandwich is a little overhyped. It is pretty good but I was not wowed. It is kind of small for $10. It is also a little dry. I think they should have put more olive oil or vinegar on it.The Gouda cheese the staff recommended was star though. It is so rich and creamy that I want to eat it everyday! It is premium priced but it definitely tastes high-end.I will definitely come back for more cheese!

Id heard soooo many things about it from east villagers, its kind of an inside thing, anyone local knows about the barnyard, so i decided to order takeout. I wanted a sandwich and soup, but something GOOOOD, not just a generic sandwich.I dont eat meat, so the pickings are thin, most places have one selection..a roasted veggie sandwich, or maybe a veggie burger..and u get sick of that stuff after the first year of eating them.Barnyard delivered the goods quickly, and well packed. The soup of the day was so amazing, and I dont normally rave about soup, or food at all.. but this stuff was so home-made tasting, not loaded up with cream or salt, or oil..just really wholesome, and truly home-made tasting and looking..but so gourmet. The soup was a corn chowder with roasted poblano peppers and nice chunks of potato. It lacked the creamy,gel-like consistency that diner soups always have, it was just perfectly salted, kind of spicy, in a smoky-complex way..not overly spicy. The sandwich was a Farmhouse cheddar cheese, some type of natural, white, aged, farmhouse cheddar..with avocado, tomato, some type of nice greens, not a typical lettuce u always see..and it had some kind of mayo that was spiced with Chipotle, another type of smoked Mexican pepper in it,smokey and just such a cool secret sauce, kind of like a spicy mayo, but u can tell they roasted the peppers and blended them by hand, like Bobby Flay or something.Im a busy man with an infant son and a very busy job, so i rarely take time to review restaurants online, but this time I felt i HAD to. The sandwich is an art form that only some folks recognize. Its not about making it big, overstuffed and grotesque,(like a $20 Lower East Side pastrami on rye)Its all about getting amazing ingredients, perfect produce and amazing bread, and just striking a balance between a few ingredients, and when u get it right, its just heaven. These guys do it right, period. trust me on this, the corn chowder w poblano and the farmhouse cheddar sandwich were simple and just wonderful, if u want to really impress someone on a picnic, this place is great for that. cannot wait to try more things...!
