I love the food and drinks at Dear Mama but I had a very disappointing customer service experience today. I ordered two iced coffees, a French toast croissant, and some overnight oats and asked (prior to making my order) how long the food would take to make since I was on a bit of a time crunch. I was assured that the food would take less than 5 minutes to get to me but ended up waiting over 30 minutes to receive my full order. Twice different elements of my order were made incorrectly (I initially received one hot coffee instead of two ice coffees and, when my food was finally done, I received my order without the overnight oats) and while I was waiting I saw staff standing around, talking to one another, texting on cell phones, and eating while preparing food. No one seemed to notice or care that I had been standing and waiting for over 30 minutes. Super frustrating!

The space is a dream, spacious and beautifully decorated with plants. If it wasnt for the unpleasant experience, I could see myself returning often. It wasnt clear how table service works or if there was table service. We decided to order at the counter and then find an open table like some of the others before us. We learned later that there was table service, run by a single person who showed their displeasure by slamming chairs down next to occupied tables not partaking in table service. We ordered some lattes, burrito, and croissant sandwich. I watched as the single barista fumbled around making everyones order. It was clear that they wanted to portray some level of artistry, but it was hard to stomach watching the same towel used to wipe the counter promptly used to clean the part of the coffee machine that held the grounds to make drink after drink. Not to mention, rubbing off a spoon on ones shirt and then stirring an order…I feel like this place can benefit by better management or support to keep the staff happy and trained. It could also benefit by designating an area for those who want to dine-in vs those who want to order to-go, but linger for a bit.

Very disappointed!! I ordered online a “croissant with ham and cheese” and a “yogurt parfait” as showing in the website, in a bowl and I added a banana as extra... I received a regular/medíocre croissant, same as the ones that we find on a plastic box from an ordinary deli/grocery, with an almost invisible portion of ham and cheese ... and the yogurt came in a small cup,, again, something that I could get from a regular grocery ...and instead of a banana they put a super sweet marmalade that I would never ordered if I knew... super expensive for the service!! Never again!

I work in the building and get coffee as well as zucchini bread here sometimes. Its always been great, although a number of times in the past few months I was given a slice that was sitting out in a small container instead of a freshly cut one. This is not an issue itself, food waste is awful and theres no need to cut a fresh slice if the pre-cut ones are perfectly fine. However, recently I have gotten anything between a very stale, hard slice that was clearly older than a few days to a slice that had the yuzu frosting melted off to the side (the visual wasnt a problem but the icing tasted stale). The employees here are extremely wonderful and the bread has always been great - its just unpleasant that it has become such a hit or miss now where I dont know what quality of slice will be handed to me whenever I do get it.

I went to Dear Mama in one of the new Columbia University buildings. It is spacious. The coffee is good. But service stinks! I had a ham and cheese croissant ($4.50). Delicious, right? Not when it is stone cold. Who serves this without heating it up? I ordered a 16 oz. coffee, but received a 12 oz. cup. When I questioned it, the barista corrected it, but is that my job? I sat on one of the benches nearby to eat in the sun. I guess the table seating will be more desirable in the heat of summer. I’ll try this place again, and hope it will be better.

One of my favorite spots to order from on the weekends. Creative takes on classic drinks/food and delicious coffee & food. I highly recommend the Cardi B-uritto, perfect hangover cure! Only complaints; utensils/straws are never provided in orders even when I specifically say to include them! Incredibly frustrating trying to drink an iced coffee with no straw especially, when on the go. Also would love to see more items on the menu, especially specialty drinks. But an all around 10/10

Wow.. wow guys what a pleasant surprise.Just happened to search for nearest coffee shop to have a quick breakfast and found myself in this place. Looks bran new, modern design with tasty coffee and Overnight Oat. Google can add a mark for newly opened places for those of us who get the kick of it.Give it a try and rate them (currently only 24 rates) for all to find this place and enjoy.

I normally love this place. It’s by far the best coffee in the extended neighborhood. But today I waited 17min for a salad and instead of being apologetic when I went to ask if it was ready I received sass. There were only two people in the shop so there’s no reason it should have taken so long. The coffee is excellent and the food very good (but very $$$). I understand sometimes things are slow but what I can’t take is attitude. When things pick back up and there are more costumers these guys are gonna be in way over their head. Having said that, I’ve never had that experience here before. Normally everyone really friendly. BUT If you add in attitude from staff it’s definitely not worth the price.

I love this cafe! It is so beautiful, well-lit and clean and just the perfect place to spend a few hours working (pre-corona). The drinks are delicious as well as the food and the staff is all so very kind and courteous! Theyve also been doing a buy a meal program to help provide food to those that need it in Harlem. I love this business. 10/10 recommend this place to anyone.

Confusing system for ordering and inattentive staff made the experience terrible. We sat but no one came to provide table service, whereas others did.We eventually ordered at the counter, but then received no further direction. Coffee pick up is on one side, but food pickup is around the corner. We watched as they spilled our coffee and just gave us wet cups with the lids wiped off with their shirts.

Love coming to Dear Mama. The vibes are immaculate, the staff is kind and can we just talk about the Notorious BLT? Best non basic BLT ever. Non basic because who makes a tomato jam??? Dear Mama does. Never heard of it before this sandwich but it’s changed my world. My favorite guilty pleasure is their Black Forest cookie. Since By Chloe cancelled their double chocolate chip cookie, my OG fave cookie (rip cookie), Dear Mamas Black Forest has become my new indulgence. If you haven’t had it, make sure you get it. It’s perfectly moist and incredible with a hot unsweetened oat milk latte. Best coffee shop in Harlem by far.

Amazing ambience in an up-and-coming area! Right off the 1 train at 125th and near the pier. The baristas were friendly and they had a great selection of coffee/tea beverages. We ordered a Chai Latte and the Mexican Hot Chocolate. The drinks were the only downside to this experience. Chai was quite sweet and Mexican Hot Chocolate was over spiced. Because of the great service and cool space, I’ll definitely go back to try other beverages.

Ive been going here since they opened. Consistent is the word I would describe this location in Manhattanville. The quality of product is fresh and clean ingredients. My go to is BLT, Cardi Britto, the smoke tempe is slamming and Bronx Brownie (GF) and my all time favorite Lamington (GF) The seasonal menu includes unique sandwiches and platters. Coffee beans, taste delicious and no jitters. The service is impeccable. The place is clean and they practice COVID protocol. Shout out to Crystal and Sara, they rock!!

Review №51

Im grateful that Dear Mama has remained open throughout the pandemic, including during the early spring months, when virtually all other coffee shops were closed. Dear Mama serves Devocion coffee, which is grown in Colombia and roasted locally in Brooklyn. The flavor profile is pleasant, light, and bright. They also offer a fairly large food menu -- pastries, soups, salads, sandwiches, and more, including several gluten-free, vegetarian, and vegan options. The cafe space itself is extremely large (unusual for NYC coffee shops), making it easy to maintain a safe distance from other customers. With free WiFi and ample table seating, there isnt a better spot for working remotely (during normal times...) in the upper Morningside Heights area. Its a great new(ish) addition to the neighborhood!

Dear Mama is a really relaxing coffee shop! They have a lot of tables and natural light, and tons of plants (some/most/all(?) of which are for sale).
