Everyone needs to have a meal at Taste. Both our meals were incredibly! Parking is within feet of the restaurant. Tables outside . Perfect day. Ive never had Apricot tea. Oh my so yummy! Staff was fast, friendly & got our order correct. Lots of home made items to take home. The bake goods looked decadent!! A lunch to remember for sure!

I wasnt entirely sure what I would be walking into on my first visit to TASTE, however, I greatly enjoyed it. The food was really good (I recommend the Lynnhaven or Princess Ann). Theres grab and go option, plenty of other good for purchase (pound cakes, peanuts, chips, cookies, etc.) TASTE also has a nice beer and wine selection to choose from. To top it all of, and probably my most welcomed surprise, the soda fountain is all Boylan Bottling Company Craft Sodas!If you havent yet, stop in for a bite and a refreshingly smooth Boylan Cream Soda.

My first impression visiting TASTE was quite well. The atmosphere/vibe the restaurant gives off appears to be tailored to the younger crowd. I loved their selection kettle-cooked chips and sodas. My favorite flavor of kettle-cooked chips has to be the Chesapeake Crab flavor. If you’ve ever had Old Bay, then you’ll know what I mean when I say these chips taste just like Old Bay. Besides the chips and sodas, TASTE is clearly a sandwich shop, and my opinion on the sandwich I ate here was exemplary. Highly recommend this place to anybody who wants to grab a nice bite to eat.

Nice assortment of lunch items in a clean, bright environment. Service was friendly and fast. Great selection of local beers, ciders, and other bottled beverages as well as variety of Route 11 chips. Gluten free bread options, and outdoor seating with umbrellas.

Only been few times but they do make a good sandwich, were headed to moive and went for this before. Spent same for to good sandwich,chips,drink as did for 2 drinks and popcorn at theater.

We went in and order lunch and that was great then we ordered some additional items to go and we were shorted 1/2 our order. For 2 people we spent over $60 at the store and $15 was missed. Very very disappointing. There seems to be no way to communicate wit the location other than calling. On top of this they expected a tip for counter service.

I am so disappointed in this location. We live in the 21st century and yet this location is unable to post on its site when it is closed??? Three times I have showed up to place an order and there is either a poorly written note on the door saying they’re closed or a very planned closing without any written notice online. It is ridiculous. Food is exceptional but I will not be going out of my way to drive to see if this business decided to take the day off or not. You lost a very loyal customer.

My daughter is vegan so this place is great for her and I to go to and we can both enjoy a good meal

I ordered there chicken salad sandwich which had a specific name but they were not able to accommodate my adjustments to the sandwich. I think when we had to switch registers to place the order they may have forgotten. The food is very tasty albeit a little pricey. I was in a bit of a rush that day heading to a wedding and it took a little bit longer than I would have liked for my sandwich. The staff there is very welcoming and pleasant. I would look forward to coming again and trying some of their other foods as well. I might suggest a few more chops to the chicken salad in its preparation. Ch

Good deli sandwiches but expensive. $11 for a just a sandwich. You end up spending $20 on lunch to-go (chips drink cookie). I cant enough of the basil mayo and turkey on French.

Great social scene and a good place to get a quick bite. Theyve locally sourced as much of their ingredients as they can and you can definitely taste it! If I had to compare it to anything I would say its like a better version of Panera bread, except here you actually get a sandwich that fills you up and if you feel like it you can have a beer or even a glass of wine.

Just visited Mama Barbaras Kitchen booth near the Taste for the City Center Fall Festival held on 10/27/2018! Apple Flappen is so good. It is a heavenly creation of apples, caramel, batter fried to perfection with a sprinkle of powdered sugar and drizzle of caramel on top. The Mango Juice cake and Lemon Chess Pie are soooooo good. They will be in Yorktown and Smithfield during the kickoff Christmas events in November & December. Yummy!

One star is too many. Bowl of French onion soup contained either cheesecloth or gauze. Spoke to “manager” on the phone who tried to convince me(argued with me)that it was “stringy cheese”. Took the soup(and gauze) back for a refund from very unhelpful and basically unapologetic manager. Stringy cheese. Really? Absolutely sickening.

I visit Taste frequently. The customer service is phenomenal-the staff is always very nice. Great tasting food that is super fresh and unique sandwich combinations make this place 5 stars for sure. Do yourself a favor and stop in for a moderately priced, yet seriously yummy lunch.

Every time I come to Newport News I have to eat here! Everything is so fresh and flavorful! Forever a fan! Also, I am really hoping that one day we will have a Taste in Williamsburg.This is a great place for lunch. I have enjoyed every soup and sandwich Ive had there. Great to pop in and grab something. Always have snacks to taste while you wait.

My mother and I stopped here when traveling out of town. Our lunch was delicious and the staff most friendly. When they discovered they were out of whatever my mother had ordered (and unable to refund), they gave us a gift card that covered the cost of the meal. And so we left with some wonderful biscuits and pimento cheese to take home! Looking forward to come by again when we are in Newport News.

Met some friends for lunch at taste. They had a wide variety of fresh salads and sandwiches, soups and stews, and locally produced products. I had the roast beef and baby swiss wrap, the Brunswick stew, and some dill chips. It was really good. They played a wonderful selection of music as well. We stayed for about three hours eating and catching up. Had a good time.

I have 6 coat hooks in my office but there is no room for coats because of all the Taste take out bags! Fresh, tasty, courteous service, and if you need something a little different from the menu, they gladly make it as you need it. Great place.

The food here is great and one of the only places in Newport News where you can get high quality sandwiches. They also have a lot of unique items you can only find in specialty stores so finding gift ideas is easy. They renovated the store a year or two ago to focus more on the food and it is now very spacious with a lot of seating. You can get wine and craft beer (on tap) along with a bunch of other specialty beverages, but the 6-packs of beer are expensive. More than Whole Foods and Total Wine.

The Taste shop at City Center in Newport News may be short on atmosphere (think institutional dining hall), but its exceptionally long on quality. Today I had house-roasted chicken with pimento cheese, bacon, spinach and house dressing on very fresh french bread. It was great; chiefly because the pimento cheese didnt obscure the other flavors. BUT- the big revelation was that Taste now has a new and superior gluten-free option: a bun that my wife, who has Celiac disease, declared the finest GF bread shes encountered. It doesnt disintegrate when in contact with meat, tomato and dressing. Taste is now her No. 1 lunchtime option.

This place is fantastic from being able to grab a beer or a glass of wine, pick up a bottle for a party, fresh salads, amazing sandwiches built anyway you want them. Youre going to find that the sandwiches here are always a cut above, always fresh with toppings that are original and well thought out. The staff here aims to please, management is amazing. Amazing fresh bread and nice variety of bread options. They have a gluten free room where they can prepare gluten free foods separately. Sandwiches any way you like it or choose from their selections. They offer a house dressing on most sandwiches and its the best dressing youll find. I had the Virginian. It was delicious. The prosciutto and peppers mix well with the ham and turkey. And the balsamic sauce was the perfect flavor and perfect amount. The pickle is crisp and delicious, not your soggy over marinated store type. They offer Rte 11 chips, which are a Virginia company and have the best variety of flavors. Outdoor seating is available, but there are plenty of indoor seats. If you are in a rush, you might want to call in your order. It can get crowded and busy. Staff is helpful, nice. And there is a nice selection of beer, coffee, chocolates, chips, and jams to look through while you wait.

Clean & spacious. I was greeted as I entered, menu was clear and to the point. They have a lot of uniquely named options and a few vege options. I had the princess anne which is an avocado sandwich with fancy cheese on whole wheat bread, (minus fancy cheese) delicious!

Great sandwiches, soups and salads. Decent selection of wine by the glass or take out bottles. Excellent selection of gourmet foods and gourmet gift baskets. A nice selection of gelato is a great choice in hot weather.is Service is always cheerful although lunch time the crowds can slow down the speed. If youre in a hurry, call your order in advance to bypass the lunch press.

Great sandwiches and snacks. I purchased a bottle of house dressing to take home! There are a few tables outside, which is nice during good weather. We were there on a Saturday when it was really busy, so the food took 15-20 minutes to arrive - which was ok since we werent in a hurry to get out of there.

Delicious sandwiches and potato salad. Very fresh tasting food and very clean place to eat. Hit the spot while we were traveling back to NC and we will definitely be back. Hopefully they put one of these in NC so we can go more often -

I usually order the chicken caesar salad with extra chicken, 1 extra dressing and usually always pay around $10 . Reasonable right? Today, ordered the same thing and was charged $2 for extra chicken and .50 for extra dressing. The extra chicken wasnt worth $2 and a small cup of extra dressing charge is a joke. When I called, I was just told unless they had a price increase, this is what it always is, even though Ive never paid for this prior . So all of that with a drink is over $15.. what a joke. I could go to a sit down restaurant for that price. Tastes prices have gotten outrageous and nickel and diming for everything is insane. Not spending $15 ever again.

The shop is interesting, and has plenty of tasty items that would do well in a gift basket. The menu has a lot of choices that lean towards the sandwich/salad sort of menu. The options are downright mouthwatering, they put plenty of meat and fresh ingredients in good bread for the sandwiches. The only thing that keeps them from 5 stars is that my sandwich came with a vinaigrette on it, and had far too much, so the vinegar completely overpowered the other ingredients. After I soaked up what I could with a napkin, it was a good sandwich that would have been great.It is a great place for a quick lunch, or for a take out work lunch.

Had lunch here today. I ordered the barbecue sandwich and split pea soup. The sandwich was tiny, more like a slider than a full size sandwich. It also was wrapped up in paper with the slaw on top so the whole sandwich was totally soggy and not really very warm. The soup was inedible. It looked curdled and the flavor was strange. I dont know what happened to this place. It used to be good. Im not going back.

Always something tasty with good service and products. Maybe a bit pricey but nice ambience and great people watching both indoors and on tables outside. Nice location in beautiful Newport News City Center.Unfortunately gelato does not compare with what one finds in Italy. However I find that true even in NYC. Get a better product in supermarkets.

This is a good sandwich shop. Normally go to the one in Greenbrier but was driving back from a trip when we stopped at this particular location. I ordered loaded potato soup with my husband. It was ok. Seemed like it was missing something but not sure what it was but was ok. However, I will say their sassy pimento cheese spread is bomb dot com!!! Its freshly made with their secret recipe and has a slight kick of spiciness but not nothing overwhelming. Its not your grandmas pimento cheese or what you might remember when you were a kid. We love getting a tub to go with some crackers to snack on at home with beer and wine. We could eat that stuff by the pound not that Im recommending that, just saying its really good.

The sandwiches are amazing! I personally recommend the Virginian. Also you have a choice between paper and plastic straws and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Food is so good! Great place to pick up lunch on my break from work but make sure to call ahead to avoid the lunch rush. Everyone is friendly and works to make sure you are satisfied with your meal. Ive had a couple of times where they made a mistake with my order and they were apologetic and always made it right (even gave me a free cookie). Make sure to join their rewards program to earn points towards a free sandwich or salad.

Love Taste! It is my absolute favorite sandwich place. Everything always fresh, always yummy. The sandwiches are pricier than others, but not only are they better, they are BIGGER- and I find that I fill up on half a sandwich, or a cup of soup and 1/4 of a sandwich. If you enjoy good food you must try this delightful sandwich shop, it will not disappoint!

Food is always great-Hilltop sandwich is my fav! Missing one star because twice I was unable to pick up food on Friday afternoon-security guards would not let me pull in to pick up an order to go. I understand that they are preparing for concert parking but you are losing money and customers because of it. :(

All of the food is good, it doesn’t matter what you order. Quality ingredients, friendly service, and trendy looks make a recipe for success at Taste. Whether it’s a quick bite by yourself or treating that special someone, Taste is the place to be.

Pretty meh tbh. My sandwich was $11.50 and should have been about $7. I get it, its supposed to be fancy or something, but that was not worth $11.50. It was good, just not worth it. Their drinks are weird, the service was slow and zombie-like, and I believe they charged me for my water. They have an intriguing gift/snack/wine shop if youre into overpriced tea and flavored peanuts and kettle corn. Not horrible, not memorable. Wont be back anytime soon.

This was my 2nd time getting a sandwich at Taste here in Newport News... They have the best food the best sandwiches I have ever had they make their own everything the croissant the butter croissant is fabulous and I had an egg salad sandwich custom ordered online got it it was wonderful and today I had the curry chicken on they butter croissant as well and it was fabulous and that I got myself some ice cream afterwards that they must make it there and it was its terrific everything is good the cookies the brownies I dont drink wine so I can tell you about that but they have a lot of different stuff and it was just good the place is clean clean clean clean and that means everything to me and everybody was just so nice so because I live on the West Coast and this is on the East Coast as far away as you can get I am going to have to just jaunt over here for lunch sometime but I wont drive this time the next time this time I drove but next time Ill fly in and have lunch .... For sure! Highly recommended to anybody if you want the best place to eat in Newport News Virginia this is it

First, the food was delicious. But I felt the prices were high for just deli sandwiches. There is also no one to direct you in ordering. I didnt know about the drinks which were on the other side. They were not super busy when we went in about 1 on a Thursday. It was the end of lunchtime. They lost my friends order entirely.

Pitiful Taste location from the service to the selection. I was very disappointed to pay 13.00 for a crab cake sandwich to watch them microwave it. Very disappointing and not what I would expect from the type of establishment they purport to be.

If you have ever had lunch in France or Italy and want to close your eyes and transport yourself back, do yourself a favor and order the Commonwealth sandwich. You can tell they take pride in the ingredients they use. They also did a great job catering our wedding rehearsal dinner. We are moving to Ohio and will miss this place dearly.
