Really enjoyed the vast selection at Newtonville books. Easy to find parking, too.
Amazing bookstore for all ages, impeccably curated and full of very smart recommendations from a savvy group of booksellers.
Super nice, very friendly, cute book shop.
Newtonville Books has always been my favorite book store. Wonderful and helpful staff
Fantastic neighborhood bookstore. They are operating with a curbside pick up only but it’s done very well.
Such a great bookstore. Smart selection of latest releases, intriguing suggestions, & they special order quickly. A breath of fresh, calming air. Ive never made it to one of their author readings but I know they do a lot to support the local literary scene. Newton Centers big parking lot is right in front.
Great little bookstore were proud to patronize regularly. A fine selection of books for such a seemingly small space. And the staff are among the friendliest weve ever interacted with.
This is a small bookstore, with a little bit of everything. My own tastes are increasingly picky, so the sci-fi, science, and math sections (my go-to areas) had very few things that I both wanted to read and hadnt read already. Prices are what you get on the dust jacket. Im used to used bookstores, so they look pretty high to me, but thats new books for you. That being said, the childrens lit and YA sections were, to a casual observer, impressively extensive for the space available. The fiction section looks like the largest: if you want something new for a book club, this place is probably excellent for that. There are devoted shelves for indie publishers, which was extremely refreshing!Almost every section had a staff pick or two. The ones describing books Id actually read were good descriptions of what I liked about the story or topic. In all, it doesnt cater to my tastes (hard sci-fi, history of science, and so forth). I had to look hard to find something I wanted to buy. But (admittedly, with a good deal of looking) I could find something, and there are plenty of use-cases for which this is a solid bookstore. The indie publisher shelves alone are worth looking at. I cant recommend it based on my tastes, but if any of the points above sound good to you and you want a new book, you might like this place.
Great bookstore. Theyre well-stocked with new books, kids books, travel and cook books. Older books and poetry books are sometimes not in stock but the staff is always willing to order for you. Orders generally come in within a few days.
What a great local bookstore! Its really cute in here and filled with lots of nice little knickknacks (pretty postcards, mugs, and other small trinkets) in addition to a decent selection of books. I also noticed they have a nice childrens section as well. I highly recommend checking this place out!
I love Newtonville books! They are friendly and warm, and the shop is cozy and delightful. Theyll also happily order you anything they dont have in stock; staff are helpful and knowledgeable about a range of books and subjects.
Great little place. Stopped in to have a burger with my teen age son and we both loved it. The line of regulars getting takeout orders was impressive. But even so the wait on the food was less than 10 minutes.
The last of a dying breed - the independent book store. Nice back list. Knowledgable staff.
Super cute little bookstore that also has a small reading area. They also sell little knicknacks, as well as clothing, gifts, and other themed items that book lovers or stationary lovers would love to get. I think sometimes book clubs meet here, but otherwise, its a nice quiet place to browse and check out the staff recommendations of books.
Great selection of books. Staff is helpful and friendly.
Love this bookstore! Friendly staff and great selection of not only books but gifts! Highly recommend.
Such a quant and small shop that is loaded with literature. Staff is friendly and always wanting to help! Would definitely make a purchase here again!
Great curated book recommendations and enthusiastic staff
What a great local bookstore! Great childrens section and lots of recent releases!
Charming and welcoming. Nice kids section. Great browsing
Amazing can’t miss bookstore. Fantastic staff recommendations; terrifically curated selection.IF YOU READ, GO HERE.
Cozy and inviting atmosphere with a great children’s book section and an excellent fiction inventory.
Small but high quality and attentive service.
Awesome book store in quaint square. Great selection of all order of books but especially love their cook books and funny greeting card section.
I am very disappointed in the experience we had with Newtonville Books. We ordered a book over the phone to be signed by the author and shipped to our home. This book was meant to be an exciting birthday present for our daughter. The address was confirmed and our card was charged. A week and a half after the author had signed the book, we called to check on where it was, and an employee said it should arrive by the end of the week. We waited until the following Monday. Still no book. I called again the next day, now almost 2 ½ weeks later, and talked to another employee. I asked if I could get a way to track my book. She directed me to talk to the owner Mary. I left a message and sent an email. I waited a couple of days, no response, and emailed again. Still no response. I called one more time, with no response. So here we are- 3 weeks later. I wish the owner would acknowledge the mess up and rectify the situation, but has not, so we have disputed it with the credit card company. Newtonville Books is an embarrassment to independent bookstores. When a store is run like this, customers have no choice but to go to Amazon instead.
Fabulous Home Town Boook Store with Excellent Selections
I love this independent bookstore. The staff are extremely helpful. They know their stock and if they dont have the book you are looking for they order it. Their estimate of the waiting time is usually accurate. I have done this dozens of times and never had a problem. In addition, the bookstore space quickly converts to an event space where writers speak. Hint: if the writer is Atul Gawande, get there early!!
I love this place! I think its somewhat expensive but if you want to go there just to look around or maybe buy one book its ok. I wouldnt recommend spending money on the expensive novel stuff unless you can really afford it.
Friendly, knowledgeable people and helpful service. Its a great local business worthy the support.I recommend them fully.
Great selection, great location, great atmosphere.
Wonderful engaging privately owned book store, lots of events parking free after 6pm. Friendly staff, creative extras
Great bookstore with family friendly atmosphere
They are very sweet and doing their very best toprovide an atmosphere where one can browse and discuss books with the employees.
Super friendly staff who suggested my next book (after the one I bought).
Great selection of childrens books.
Wonderful bookstore, with a wide selection and great service. Going back for some of their events!
This is a great bookstore with a good selection, and great author events. With the ability to browse, receive a member discounts, and order quickly and easily - this bookstore is among the best.
Great little bookstore. Good place to browse.
Nice place, kind people in costumers service
Great indie bookstore. Friendly and knowledgeable staff.
This is a great little bookshop. At first, I was incredibly confused. The name of the store is Newtonville Books, but it isnt in Newtonville. Weird huh?Well anyway, walking in was extremely pleasant. The store is beautiful. Modern, clean, small yet effective. Lots and lots of book throughout the front section, which is all windows looking out to Newton Centre and Langley, and the back is cozy, sweet, with lots of chairs and lots of books. Their was a childrens section off to one side, and lots and lots of gifty items in the front of the store, all not too expensive and great ideas for birthdays or holidays. I will definitely be returning. This is one great, local bookstore, that is cozy & quaint, yet not as overwhelming as the New England Mobile Bookfair. Hidden at the beginning on Langley Road, in Newton Center next to Jumbo Seafood and Walgreens, directly off Centre Street. 5 stars.
Nice service and nice books
It is a bookstore. Not a chain. You get diecisiete attention from people who actually care about books. Yes you can get books for cheaper from Amazon but you cannot get the customer service. We need more of these bookstore.
