I came here on a Friday night, and this restaurant has Spanish/Latin dancing after 10pm, which I found to be great. You get to dance off all the food you ate. Unfortunately I arrived only for the dancing, so I cant give a rating on the food, but it must have been good because my folks had clean plates when I had arrived shortly before 10. The Bartender sucked! He didnt know how to make a Rum Runner and the other drinks he did know how to make werent good, well except for this frozen Piña Colada my Mother had and said was really good, overall the bartender was disappointing. Overall I would come here again to atleast try the food, but especially for the dancing.
Great Food and drinks and service. Still have morcilla. All the foods I grew up with in The Bronx New York. My favorite place in Virginia
The food was excellent and fresh cooked. I will definitely returning including bringing my Parents.
Food was excellent. We had the arroz con gandules and chicharones and a side of sweet plantains. Awesome for our first visit to this new restaurant. Give them a try, you will not be disappointed.
Stopped here for lunch. We ordered the sweet and savory plantains, mofongo, and beef empanadas. (Unfortunately they were out of the beef and cheese empanadas and the Arepita de Maiz.) Everything was delicious. The food came quick and hot and you can definitely tell everything was homemade. Our total bill came out to be $25.
Fri/Sat nights here is a great time. Salsa music & dancing. I personally was not a fan of the food here because the cook allowex zero alterations to be done. More effort could have been done to accommodate someone who only wants chicken and veggies. Also, this Is supposed to be a Latin spot. Where is the coffee?
The food tastes superb and the presentation is beautiful and artistic. All round looks appetizing. Drinks at the bar are well made too. Great service, nice workers, neat environment. 100% recommend.
Ive given this place a couple tries and the only time the service is decent is when I have a latino friend with me. ( or they assume they are latino ) The night club is awful unless you like waiting over 20 minutes to get a drink. I dont know who enjoys paying a $20 cover to then wait 30 mins for an up charged drink though.
Local 7 cities Latino American restaurant with dishes specializing chicken, streak and shrimp .Cuisine is season to perfection. A good place to practice your Spanish. Order you dishes on the phone, if you are in a hurry or relax and have an adult beverage at the bar with friends and family.
Service was a little rough at first as it was hard to communicate with our server and it took a while to order. However, our server Rosie was awesome, super friendly, and overall tried to help us the best she could and was very personable. Even though our food took a while to cook, it was so worth the wait and tasted delicious!! We got chicken empanadas, chicken yaroa, red snapper with beans and rice, and maduros. Would definitely recommend to a friend. Im going to go back!
The food here was very good. I ordered the roasted pork. It was so tender and juicy and delicious! I did enjoy the spanish rice, but I think next time I would get the white rice with beans served on the side. I had never had sweet plantains before. They were so caramelized and yummy. I will definitely have to order from here again in the future.
This place has become a hit or miss. I will not be returning. They are always out of something, lettuce, tomatoes, sugar, steak yes I said steak! Then they will fix your order & not tell you that these items are missing from your order. I am one that I will dissect & inspect my food before taking a bite. Its a shame the owner is nice, didnt charge me for the item but it doesnt really make up for the bad service. My family has gone as well & had the same issue. We found another place closer to Ft Eustis food is awesome !
The food was delicious! Hot on arrival! Served quickly and the cost was as local as you can ask!
The food is great but at least they need more servers, take to much time to get everything.
1st time eating there. Went with family. Enjoyed authentic PuertoRican cuisine. I had shrimp mofongo, very good!
First time going here... I dont eat meat except seafood but the sandwiches my mom and brother got looked mouth watering and they enjoyed them... I had the fried shrimp and they were seasoned super good... Great prices... I would just say this isnt a place for vegetarians or vegans... But as a pescatarian I enjoyed their seafood selection... And the waiter was awesome
Youve got to try this place!! The food is heavenly. My only regret is that we didnt try it sooner. I especially love the crab empanadas and chicken yaroa. *Chefs kiss!!
Open and check your order on take-out!! My husband and I have gotten food from here twice. We placed our order the first time and they gave us the wrong rice on 1 of our orders but we let it go because the rest of the food was good. The 2nd order had the wrong plain white rice when we asked for red rice with beans on the side. After apologizing since we took the long ride back to the restaurant for the exchange- the worker Ryan proceeded to tell how to ask for Spanish rice next time...although I said red spanish rice and gave me White rice. Bad service.
Worst service ever! Had a great waitress on her 2nd day of employment and had no help from management nor staff members. Waited over 2 hours and one of our family members never received her food order. Im visiting from New York and I have never had experienced bad customer service.
Not impressed! I visited this restaurant today and purchased the sancocho. This dish was salty and the plantain in the sancocho were hard; it did not taste as if it was freshly made. The price of this dish is currently listed online for $10. However, they are charging $15. I told the waiter that the price listed online was $10. They did not cared to honor the price listed online. A total waste of my time and money! Do not see myself ever visiting this place again!!!
Really like the vibe of this place. The food was delicious and the customer service was excellent. Will be back soon.
After eating the pernil, 30 mintues later by throat start to swell and my stomach starts to get upset. The next day I have chill, fever, vomiting, and headaches. It’s now the 3rd day from eating here and I have broken out in some sort of rash on my face, mouth, hand and feet. The meat must have not been thoroughly cooked or something. I usually always eat here and never had any problems. But after this experience I will not be coming back.
Our waitress took our order in a timely manner.. the place was not full.. our water took 40 minutes.. No fault to our waitress who is brand new. Owner or other staff didnt help her. Finally we got 2 out of 4 drinks at 50 minute mark. Food came out 20 minutes later minus one plate. As I am writing this, 3 of us finish our food .. still missing one plate. As of yet the Owner has not come to our table to see our concern. This is no fault to our waitress.. I blame this whole thing on the owner.. not professional at all.. if I can gave no stars I would. We left after waiting an additional 20 minutes minus the plate we were waiting for
The food was good. Kind people. The plates were so well presented. It was my first time and I had a good experience.
Food was great! Service was a bit slow, and I thought lighting was a bit too bright.
Absolutely incredible service and atmosphere. When we entered a nice waiter informed us it would be a 30 minute wait to place an order, we did not mind at all, it was only 15 minutes before our waitress Rosa took our order. Dinner was super delicious
I am from Providence Rhode Island and this is the Best Experience I have had in the entire state of Virginia. Thank You for amazing customer service and the best food that Ive had since Providence
This is a relatively new restaurant in the area. The food was great and the service was also pretty good. The waiter was attentive and the staff was polite and friendly. However, as the night passes they do run out of certain things. I asked for the “papa rellena” or potato ball and the waiter had to check if they had some still. They do not have a full bar, only wine and about 6 selections of beer. The lighting is very bright, reminiscent of an office space. With that said, the bathroom was super clean and they have a neat little store next door with lots of different products used in the Latin American cuisine. I will return but maybe for lunch instead of dinner.
Absolutely amazing! Price was great food and drinks simply amazing and the staff was awesome!
Lack of photos is how you can tell this place deserves more than 5 stars. The food was so good I didn’t take a picture. The service, the food, the cleanliness of the establishment...it just a place you should stop in at.
Omg if you are a fan of Spanish food, then you’ll definitely love it. Did not disappoint
Very good food and atmosphere. Just what I was looking for. Authentic Spanish food.
Poor service. The tables were sticky upon arrival. Water was served without coasters. 2 of my original orders were not available due to lack of ingredients. So I settled on the skirt steak. It was tough, chewy and had a wierd odor. After a few bites I asked for a to go box to feed my dog later. The waitresses didnt understand English and threw out practically my whole meal and said sorry afterwards. Im never coming back here and will warn all of my friends to steer cleat of this place. By far my worst dining experience in the 5 years of living in Hampton Roads. ZERO stars!!!
Food was amazing. Service was really good. Definitely would come back to eat.
We were a big group visiting Virginia from out of state, we were looking for some Latin cuisine and found La Yaroa and after reading the great reviews we decided to try it. WoW finally Google and Yelp didn’t lie, the best latin food we have eaten. The service was incredible from the hostesses to our waiter Santiago to the owners Alexandra and Orlando I believe their name was (sorry if that’s not their name) coming by to make sure we were enjoying our time and our food was as we ordered. The restaurant was super clean, busy and yet sparkling clean, the bathrooms were clean as well but can we go back to the food? We ate so much that we had to cancel our plans after, we needed to just relax 😎.When you visit Virginia Beach area make sure to stop by and try them, you won’t regret it.As for us, we’ll make sure to stop by again on our next family vacation.
The one star is for the server. He was friendly and appeared courteous. Me and my wife ordered 2 pastelillos which were the best part of the meal.. And the molcilla platter with fried yuca which both were bland over cooked burnt and very dry and unseasoned. We also ordered the tripletta sandwich to share. It was very greasy and bland. We payed and walked away leaving almost a full table of food. They certainly dropped the ball on our order. We wont ever go back again.
Delicious food. Moving here from Miami was difficult for me because of the difference in the dining and food culture. It was a great experience to have dinner with my family here. Very friendly atmosphere.
Horrible customer service! Came to have dinner with my husband and 2 kids (3 and 1). After we sat down, we waited 15 mins and no one even came to take our drink order. We ended up leaving and will not return, nor will we recommend this place to anyone.
Food was delicious, the waitress was extremely courteous and professional. I will definitely be visiting again.
I love this place, the staff are always friendly and professional and the food is fantastic. Yaroa de papas frita con pollo, and cubam sandwich were good, but my absolute favorite is the chicharron de cerdo in any variation. Ive had it as lunch, dinner, snack its just delicious! Definitely gotta give this place a try, you wont regret it!
La Yaroa was a wonderful experience. The food is fresh and hot and mostly delicious. The drinks are yummy if a bit light on the alcohol. And the servers are very friendly.
I only came here for the club part. The staff and security was very friendly and helpful. Really good DJ as well. Really nice establishment
Amazing and authentic Puerto Rican cuisine, always a good time! I love that they offer lunch specials and military discount.
They offer bilingual servers. Also great food
Great place, great food and awesome service!
We visited VA for the weekend. 1st day we ate here. By far the best mofongo Ive had in a very long time. Our last day we stop in to order a few items to go. Unfortunately, they were out of a few items although they just had just open (11am). A bit disappointing but food is delicious. Will definitely return when visiting again.
Very slow laid back atmosphere
Visited this Puerto Rican and Dominican restaurant for the first time last week. Wow! The food is amazing! I ordered garlic shrimp Creole style with rice and beans and sweet plantains. My friend ordered shrimp and flank steak with rice and beans. Very Large portions. Friendly staff! Will be back again.
Food was okay, servers were very nice and polite. The food was piece mealed out. One person received their food, then an appetizer, etc. One order was incorrect...
Food wise its a great place but if you are hungry dont expect food expeditiously, customer service can be improved the new outdoor eating is very nice but due to lack of customer service attention to detail i would give them a 3 1/2 stars . But if you have time stop by and enjoy the food . Take out orders are fast . I think they focus pretty hard on orders for takeout. Which is good i just wish they had the same energy for those of us that take the time to go to the restaurant . Also music in the outside area would be nice as well .
Loved the food and great service too.
Its been a while since I ate at a dominican restaurant so I am so glad I went to this place. Im pregnant and had a craving for Mofongo and I DO NOT regret it. One of the best mofonogo de Pollo Ive ever had. Top 3. Cant wait to come back for Tre golpe..... 🤤
Food here is fantastic, drinks are fantastic, portion sizes are fantastic!! You go to other Caribbean restaurants and everything tastes bland and rushed but the food here taste just like back home, I am never disappointed!!!
The food and service was great 👍 5 stars
The food is amazing, but its a small place. It takes a while to be seated or get service. Maybe if they had a specific waiter/waitress it would make it smoother to get tended to. I love all the varieties on the menu. I just want them to let me k ow ahead of time what they are serving and not serving from the menu. I will definitely still come back here I love that I have more options to go to Puerto Rican spots. I just find the right time when it isnt so busy.
I was very impressed with this place. Very clean and nice atmosphere and the lady taking my order was very helpful with helping me decide on what to get. I ended up with the tripleta and man t was so good. Took only like 15 min to get my order which wasn’t bad. Fries where a little soft and could be a little crunchier but beside that loved the place will recommend this place.
Latino friends recommended this restaurant to me. Went there two days in row .received no service. Sat both times for 20min. Others came in after us and received service. Obviously Im not Latino maybe that was the issue. The waiter acted like he didnt want t o take our order. But its cool. Still wishing success for this restaurant.
Poor service absolutely utterly no respect for customers attitude pitch they kept disappearing and come back rubbing their noses n had a white powder dust around they nose after wiping nose my wife noticed the lady reached for lemons with no gloves and did not wash hand and put it in somebodys drink food was cold just will not go back EVER AGAIN
The food is good, but if you come for breakfast dont expect coffee. Went there twice no coffee both days which is stronge because its a pretty basic ítem anywhere food is sold
Family outing before flight. Good food but slow.
Went here for dinner was seated at 630 pm. The waiter took our drink order I got the sugarcane mojito. About 10 min later he was back to take our food order. They were out of multiple things like chicken and bread. After taking our order he was back to confirm everyones meal. Needless to say he had it all wrong so we corrected him. He went back and apologized because it was busy? There were 5 servers standing around and it definitely was not busy. About 7:15 PM we received our drinks after he had asked us again what our drinks were. I do not recommend the sugarcane Mojito. At about 7:45 pm we received our food. Every single order was wrong. And when I mean every order I mean every single order. The dish that I got was very bland. The shrimp that my wife ended up with was overpowered by garlic. She did not order anything remotely close she ordered the rotisserie chicken and somehow did not end up with that at all. The waiter in the end tried to charge us for the shrimp plate even though we told him that was not our dish that we ordered. He ended up taking it off. We all still had to pay for the other dishes that were wrong though. We had informed him that they were wrong and he did not offer to fix it. I do not recommend this place at all.
I hate leaving bad reviews. The first few visits here we LOVED it! The food and atmosphere were great. I don’t know what happened since our last trip (early pandemic time) and last night but I was very disappointed. There were several items on the menu that they were out of or didn’t do including passion fruit for the mojito which was the flavor our waitress recommended. Our empanadas were barely warm, not hot at all. When asked how I wanted my skirt steak (with the mofongo since the didn’t do the bistec as stated on the menu) I said medium well but it was well well done. The small salad on side was swimming in dressing. We ordered a cubano to go to split for lunch today, the half I got was as much fat as meat and overloaded with mustard. I hope whatever happened to this place gets resolved.
The food here is just as great as their smaller location. I tried the chuletas and they tasted great; they were juicy and with great flavor. The arroz con grandules was delicious as well as their beans. Also, tried the best alcapurria in the area. This place has the best Dominican/Puerto Rican food in Hampton Roads. They also take great pride in their food and it show through their plating. The issue with both locations is their lack of front of the house experience. At this location the server was not very attentive and had too many tables to handle; she was also spending time on her cell phone while taking to-go orders and servicing tables. Its their lack of customer service experience that keeps me from visiting as often.UPDATE: On another visit: The male server was exceptional. He explained the menu items in great detail and provided excellent service not only at our table but others. He should train the other staff. Although he was alone, he was able to manage 4 tables, take to-go orders and answer the phone. They need more help at the front. This time I ordered Alcapurria de Yuca which was great and the mixed Yaroa with plátanos which was delicious. People around me asked me for the dish name and stated that it looked delicious.
Food was delicious. I was looking for some food that reminded me of home and they did not disappoint. I ate the Chicharron, Arroz con gandules and the Yuca al ajillo. Service was great and I would definitely recommend to friends.
The food is great, tastes like home cooking, the service is a little slow which is why I gave four stars instead of five
They get one star, and they dont even deserve that! We were 7 adults and 2 children. We were given a table and seated. A gentleman came over shortly to take our drink order. 15 or so minutes pass and he comes back to take our food order. No drinks. Were told that half the food on the menu is not available. So now half of us scramble to make new choices. (I knew at this point that it wasnt going to end well.)About 15 to 20 minutes later 4 people came in and sat down, and by this time, the diners who were already there had started filtering out. The group of 4s order was taken and their drinks given, THEN our drinks started to arrive. Still no food. Before the last of our drinks had been brought to the table, group of 4 starts getting their plates!!! Nothing for us! Even though we were seated and had ordered *at least* 15 minutes before them! Another 10 minutes and our plates slowly began being brought out from the kitchen. (Yes. For those of you keeping score, we have been sitting at the table for nigh on 1 hour before our food begins to arrive!) Half of the orders are wrong, but we take the plates anyway because we dont want tonsit another 30 minutes waiting for food! Most of us have now finished and we have watched two other groups come in and get seated. All are done now and were simply waiting for our checks. And then I see it. Plates of food leaving the kitchen for a group of 2 ladies who have barely been sitting for 10 minutes!! Now I was getting angry. I looked around the restaurant and I believe I identified the issue. We were the only white people in there. The group of 4 were black. The ladies were black and Hispanic. There was another family, Hispanic, there. In my 50+ years on this spinning ball of rock, I have never felt I was treated differently, nor have I treated others differently, because of skin pigment. But, invoking Occams Razor, I see no other reason. I thought the food was good, but the service overshadowed any positives the food may have contributed because I will never go back. La Yaroa, you have spoken. You do not want us there. So we will choose to eat elsewhere. And hopefully have encouraged others to eat elsewhere too.For those of you reading this that are regulars, good on ya. You are who they want. Eat, drink, and be merry! For those who have not been here, dont go. Maybe it was because we were not regulars. Maybe it was because we are white. It certainly was not incompetence on the part of the cook or the server. They got everyone elses order out in a jiffy.Edit: There were at least 4 people, maybe 5 or 6, that were constantly visible from my table. And if you were short staffed how was the table of 4 able to get their food LONG before us when we had been there LONG before them?!?! Actions speak louder than words, Orlando. And your words in no way reflect the actions of last night.
We went to this restaurant 1/13/19 on my birthday for a late lunch. got there about 2:30ish and they were fairly busy. we sat and placed our orders. the waitress was nice and answered all our questions we had about the menu. they were out of the empanadas sadly so we got a couple alcapurrias for an appetizer instead. we did have to wait almost an hour to get our food however when it finally came it was absolutely delicious and worth the wait. i got the mofongo con pernil and my brother and his wife both got the grilled chicken with rice and beans and tostones. my mofongo was moist and flavorful and the pernil was good as well. both dishes were plated beautifully. they were also out of the flan con queso which is what i was hoping to get as a special birthday treat but thats ok. the waitress and woman working in the kitchen were very apologetic for our long wait and we did receive a 50% discount off the entire bill. when we left, it was a little after 4. i would give 5 stars had we not had to wait so long but overall it was a great experience and the food was amazing. a great second best to my abuelas food which is exactly what we needed since we live out of state from her. ill definately be back again but will probably order ahead of time first
Always an excellent choice! The food is amazing!
Rude customer service needs to work on their phone communication called in for an order and the lady hung up on me two times in the middle of ordering
The food is pretty good. The service? not so much. And even though thats typical of a Dominican restaurant, this place can be very aggravating. They wont acknowledge you when you walk in, usually start online orders late, take too long, and are prone to missing an item in an order.
