We popped over to Mr. Bills while craving some country cooking. Its a lovely option for a meat and three in the area!Thanks to its extra large dining room, getting a seat is easy peasy here. Theres also a carry out window if youre in a rush.We were extra hungry, so we had a LOT of food. I ordered fried chicken tenders with yams, macaroni and cheese, and seasoned fries. My boyfriend got the smoked wings with fried okra and banana pudding (yes, banana pudding and cobblers can be a side).The chicken tenders were good enough -- very meaty but lacking a little crispness and seasoning in the breading. Still, paired with the house made ranch, they tasted yummy. The macaroni and cheese was standard issue, very cheddar-y. The yams had the flavor almost of baked apples; it wasnt unpleasant but it was kind of unexpected. The fries were probably the best of the sides, really nice and crispy and I liked the seasoning.My boyfriend liked the smoked wings quite a lot; they didnt hold up to his favorites restaurants level, but they were still really good. The fried okra was good, too, and very crispy. The star of the meal, though, was the banana pudding: definitely the best weve ever had. So good we took a pint home!Our favorite part of the dining experience had to be our waitress, though. I never caught her name, but she struck the perfect balance of conversation, she kept our drinks topped off, and she gave helpful recommendations (like when she brought me some of their buffalo-type sauce to try with my tenders). She was amazing! Ill also add that we thought the price was really reasonable. Definitely the best meal for the price weve had in a while.While the food isnt my favorite meat and three-style food, I love this place -- everyone knows everyone here, and everyone takes care of everyone, too. I loved seeing the locals and the staff greet each other like old friends.

Update: 07-23-20Fantastic lunch today at our favorite restaurant in town! Hamburger steak with gravy and onions, cowboy baked beans, lima beans, and a delicious side salad. The food is ways great but we absolutely love all of the staff here. Service is top notch! Clean, family friendly atmosphere!Original post: I love the food and more importantly, the people here. All of the staff are very friendly and helpful. The owners have done great things with the menu and decor. Its a meat and 3 kind of place, but theres way more than just 3 choices 😉. I personally love the large hamburger steak here. Mike also smokes some amazing wings that you must try if you visit! We eat here pretty regularly and I dont see that ever changing.

Not a big “RATE AND REVIEW!!” kind of guy. Seems like the only people that do that have an axe to grind (and frequently provide absolutely no information relevant to the establishment, other than the fact that something wasn’t the way they wanted it this one time and they ain’t gonna take it any more..) Also, not a huge fan of meat and threes “to go” (I always have to eat to go because of work and the hot food always steams everything and then gets mushy... I know, I sound like a princes) so I usually avoid. However, today we tried out Mr Bills. Man.Im glad we did. It was spot on. Changed my belief that you can’t get meat and veggies (to go) and it not all be mush. Have never dined in, but will be soon. If you’re reading reviews for a reason other than entertainment, you need to go on a place you an order. You’ll be glad you did. And get the hamburger steak. You welcome.

Mr. Bills is local meat and three lunch restaurant with great southern type foods. Now serving breakfast starting at 5am. Try the pancakes they aregreat along with regular breakfast fares. Have never had a bad meal atMr. Bills it can be busy at lunch one of the more popular eats at this time.

Our group of 20 met at Mr. Bills on 12/13/19 @5 PM. When my mother was living, this used to be one of her favorites. The restaurant wasnt busy, but management insisted, twice, that we should have called ahead. A member of us stated, what if we sat at 3-4 separate tables, would be the same? The lady made us feel like we were an inconvenience. I can understand better if we came near closing, but they were open for another three hours.Pros: the hot plates with the steak, hamburger, baked potato were good.Only two of us were fortunate enough to order this.Cons: the rest of it needed improving. I ordered 4 vegetables with cornbread. Food from the jail would have topped this.As a result, several of us concurred that we wouldnt return. Mr. Bills isnt what it used to be, at least to me.

Mr. Bills menu has something for everybody. We dine in the restaurant from time to time, but use their online ordering frequently for carry out. It is extremely easy and efficient and makes picking up dinner after work a breeze. My entire family always enjoys whatever we eat, and the customer service is great.

We came here when we dropped our son off for college and will be back every time we visit him. What a great restaurant! Such kind people and amazing food quality for an incredibly reasonable price. I am quite picky about my steak and I can say hands-down, this was the best steak I have ever had. Ate at another restaurant in south Florida a few weeks ago and paid about four times more for my steak. It was not nearly as good. Our whole family of five loved their meals.
The staff ia nice but the food is very instantish.. The hamberger steak is good if u dont get the instant gravy. The potatoes are good. But the greens are canned and there is zero attempt at making them taste Southern style country cooking. So the name is not as i would think the food should be. Also i ask for a slice of tomato and was told no. If i wanted a slice of tomato i had to buy the entire side.. So ok i did not get what i asked for. Other than not trying to make the food taste the way we southerners eat our vegetables its ok. If u just want a hamburger i see no reason why u wouldnt like it from mr. Bills. But southern cooking .. ???? Not so much.😉

Had the beef tips over mashed potatoes (good idea, Id only had beef tips on rice before) with baked beans and banana pudding. Beef tips and beans were good standard, what you would expect, nothing special. The banana pudding was excellent. The bananas werent green and werent too ripe and the wafers were plentiful! My son had steak and fried okra. He liked his steak, saying it was good, not great. The okra was crisp with almost a sweet batter which he liked. Okay price and the waitress was obviously at the end of a long day and was outstanding.
Mr. Bills is a great restaurant for our family and kids to eat! The atmosphere is great, and the owner is regularly there visiting and talking with customers. (It has a local Tuscaloosa vibe to it.). My wife have been there many times, and the waitresses are kind and attentive as well.The food is a meat-and-three style where you choose your particular meat and then pick from a list of vegetables. They have a plate-of-the-day and a desert-of-the-day as well. My favorites are the country fried steak, the hamburger steak and the catfish. The meals also come with cornbread or a roll. You can also order Texas toast as well.My wife and I also absolutely love getting their smoked wings. They are EXCELLENT, and you can order lots of them for football parties and such. The wings have such a great flavor to them!
I ordered the spaghetti. Not a fan. I have heard a lot about their catfish so I might have to try that sometime. I do love their fried green tomatoes. The service I have experienced has just been fair.

My company had a customer luncheon there. Had the catfish, it was seasoned well. Never had fried pickle spears before, they were amazing! Enjoyed myself would definitely visit again if I am in Tuscaloosa.

Im knocking my review up from a 3 to a 4 (3 was unfair). Pros: Attentive service, Fast service, Prices, Selection. Cons: Very Hit & Miss on the Food Quality; not as good as used to be. Some of remains great comfort food: meatloaf, mashed potatoes, baked beans, all excellent. The fried okra tasted like microwaved from frozen (completely inedible), and the banana pudding (which they consider their specialty): dont want to rain on their parade, but you can find better in town. Tip: Get there before 7:00, cause they start running out of things.

Nice size portions of all your southern favorites. Meat and three sit down restaurant. Be sure to get sweet tea to compliment the meal. Is usually crowded but with a surprisingly short wait time.
Overall good, hubbys breading fell right off his pork chops and meat dry. My potato salad was sour! Everything else good.
Portions not worth the price. Dont come hungry cause you will leave hungry. Service is ok but dont ask for anything like sauce that should come with the meal; asked for it when order was placed, cause you will not get it. So if you want a snack, its great. Kids sized portions for full sized prices.

Its freshly prepared home-style cooking. Ate with a friend who is a regular and the owner stopped by to chat. Our order was taken and the food was on the table before we finished chatting. The waitress took our order with an iPad which was REALLY cool. The food was delicious and the choice of dessert was wonderful.
I was so disappointed.Prices per plate are very reasonable but you get what you pay for.(Steak and rib plate) The steak was like jerky, absolutely no flavor whatsoever. The ribs were decent.The baked potatoes tasted like they were boiled and wrapped in foil.A few years ago was my first experience which was pallatable. Recent experiences (2 since) proved to be the worst ever.

The owner of this place is super nice all the time. Service is fast. I needed a saw to cut the pork chop though and greasy okra. Mashed potatoes and banana pudding was great!! But the server seemed unhappy to be here. I just wish they would give you time to look over the menu without constantly coming back are you ready to order. Thats my main complaint. When we come in were not in a hurry, I felt like hurry up and order heres your bill now leave.
This place is seriously delicious. We had the corn bread and pudding. The best comfort food you can get in Tuscaloosa/Northport area. The servers were so sweet and the owner made sure everyone was taken care of!
