I brought my Gibson ES-333 to Jonathan and he fixed the neck and did an incredible setup. I am pleased and it was definitely worth the drive from Knoxville. Price was great too. Thank you so much!
He did a wonderful job on my guitar. It plays so much easier now.
Jonathan does a top notch job and I enjoy the character of his store.
Very helpful every visit!! Thank you!!
The string workshop is where I take my violin for repairs. It is always good work, and it is reasonably priced. The owner will work with you if you need repairs done quickly. If he says it will be done at a certain time. It is always done at that time.
Its always pleasant to visit the workshop- even if its just to pay for my daughters violin rental. Jonathan is always fun to chat with, and the shop is dripping with character, the smells of hide glue, varnish, rosin, and the patina of history.
Did not fully repair some instruments. And has kept one of my guitars for over a year and used the same excuse saying Well, its back to school. I have been very patient but am now very angry, as I expected professionalism and to be treated with the same priority as every other paying customer.I do not recommend taking ANYTHING to the string workshop. Unless he likes it and wants to take the time out of his life to do the work, your instruments WILL NOT BE REPAIRED.
The owner Johnny is incredibly knowledgeable in all things strings. Wouldnt have my guitar worked on anywhere else.
Jonathan is simply the best!!
Great service by owner on repairing an old (1935) acuistic guitar.
The best place in the region to get your guitar set up correctly. Do not go to guitar center, youll be sorry, rather come to the String Workshop in Oak Ridge. Their prices are outstanding and the technical skill is superior. If you want to hear what your guitar should really sound like, then you better visit the string workshop.
Great guitar repair shop in oak ridge tn
The owner was very nice and knew just what my girls needed. He was also good friends with a family member 👍
Johnathan has done repairs and setups on my guitars for 20+ years. He’s worked on my classical, steel string, and electric guitars. He does great work on all of them.
For instrument repair and service, theres not a better place around. Jonathan does great work for a very fair price. Highly recommend
I took an old guitar tha I bought at a yard sale for $15.00 back in the 70s in to Strings and Things to get new strings. Johnathan not only put new strings on it, but also repaired the nut and saddle for me. When I picked my old guitar up it looked like new because Johnathan had polished it up. The charge for the work and strings was more than reasonable. He does great work, gives good advice, and is very helpful. I have a couple of other guitars that I’ll be taking out to Strings and Things soon for new strings.
Got my old 60s guitar tuned & checked out for beginners lessons & the gentleman was so nice & encouraging. Happy New Year
I didnt realize how good my guitar sounds since the new strings me put on was very helpful is a big surprise when I got home listen to it I can do things I know which has had a hard time doing Chet Atkins and such
I came in here to buy guitar strings for my significant other one day. I did not know the exact kind he needed, but the owner made a recommendation for what I was describing. I was verifying with my significant other that they were the right kind, but he was unsure. I asked the owner if I could return them if they were not the ones we were looking for. That seemed to be an issue to him. He sighed and said I guess. Thankfully the strings ended up being what we needed however I was a little upset about the attitude I was given about returning the item if needed.
I brought my old Epiphone in after it had been neglected and unplayed for almost 20 years since college. I cant be happier with how it sounds, now. It never played so well. More than reasonable rate for fantastic work.
The guy was very rude, took a guitar in there and he said this is not a guitar, there would be no point in trying to fix it all I wanted to do was have strings installed, it was a guitar for beginners, I would not suggest going to string works. UNPROFESSIONAL.... POOR ATTIDUDE.... from the guy working there
Best place to go to get ur guitars fixed have used them twice and both times he has done a magnificent job !
First went there about 1988. Lived in sev cities n states since. Returned to TN. The other day I coincidentally opened my classical guitar case to find one string busted..... My past visit was in 1992. Found their receipt from their work in 1992. Taking a lonnng shot. . . They are still in business 27 years plus later !!!The owner talked w me and explained what was needed and why that string broke. He freely shared his knowledge and was not the least bit condescending.Because of age of the strings, he plans to restring and have ready by tomorrown!I enoyed the unique guitars and other unique instruments.
Great place to rent or repair stringed instruments
Excellent workmanship. Like dealing with a faithful friend.
The owner, Jonathan Goldstein, gives friendly, honest opinions and is very personable and accommodating. He adjusted my cheap Jasmine Takamine guitar for a very good price, and it made a huge difference. I would definitely recommend this shop.
Took a Austin single cutaway electric guitar to have fret work done and I setup done on it he tried to in tonight with the old strings did not even offer to put new strings on it supposed to had it a week had it a month still not playable
The shop is the last place I would recommend taking an instrument for even routine work. The physical shop was full of dust and odors that smelled suspiciously of mildew or mold. The unit next door was deemed not safe for humans. The owner was rude and dismissive, and even obvious problems, he was unwilling to do the work unless he could do what he wanted to the instrument. In the particular, a viola that had a problem with the nut that needed shimming up, he insisted that the real problem was that we took off the fine tuners (it never had them on the three lower strings) and that no one could possibly hear a difference, even though I easily could on my old instrument. He repeatedly stated that he would not put any strings on an instrument but classic low end Dominants, even if it is the wrong choice of string for the instrument.
After an understanding, the adjustments were perfect.
Great place.
Not happy with his work
