Challah too expensive.I paid $3 for two teeny tiny rugelachWhile a giant bagel is $2, why is a tiny treat nearly the same cost??? This makes no sense people. The best part is:I got scolded for trying to get them myself. There’s no sign saying that you need assistance. They’re in boxes out front so it’s essentially a do-it-yourself set-up. Little did I know….Lastly:The employees were really rude and discombobulatedAs a Jew, this all makes me very sad. Very sad. There’s so few of us and even fewer good Jewish delis. Why you gotta ruin this for me?!To ownership:Please allow your employees to do more than one thing, and create better processes. They should not be standing around on their phones. They should be trained to know the whole business, so they can eventually be promoted to leadership. You’re doing them and yourself a disservice. What on Earth are you people doing/thinking?Stop making me look bad!
Nothing to complain about, and I like to complain, oy! Delicious pastrami sandwich, good bagel, decent rugelach. Now that I think of it, I wish they couldve put mustard on my sandwich instead of giving me packets. That part was a little weird but Ill be back.
Overall fairly disappointing. Helpful in a pinch if you absolutely need something, but overall the food really isnt great. We ended up trying a lot of different items, and every time weve come here its been quite disappointing
Did a walk up order for a bagel. Was in and out within 5 mins! For my first bagel with them, I kept it simple and ordered a plain bagel with a smoked salmon shmear to see how the bagel looked itself. I think it was a great bagel!! Nice golden coloring and shine, yummy soft inside, and a pretty delicate crunch on the outside. For all intents and purposes, this was an awesome bagel, and I will be back for sure :)
Thank you for making gluten free bagels. They are so good!
Ordered on Doordash and somehow they never made my order, even though they clearly received it. Manuel made it right, and had his staff make it in less than 5 minutes. We all make mistakes, but its about how we make it right. Ill be going back because of the excellent service and food.
I ordered the smoked salmon classic bagel open-faced, and the bagel was completely stale and cold :( i only live a few minutes away and grabbed my order right when it was ready, so im not sure if the bagels are being toasted prematurely and then used, but it had the texture of cardboard. two stars because everything but the bagel was good. but as a bakery, i expect a good bagel! i even took the toppings off the bagel and transported to a bagel i had at home and it was much more edible. i hope that this improves because i love that this place is open on the weekend, unlike a lot of restaurants around here.
Really good coffee from Proyecto Diaz, not bitter and smooth.
Breakfast menu looks goodBagels are made in house
Stopped by right before Passover.Next year will order the meal (the macroons were sublime and the Chocolate, Carmel and Sea Salt Mazto was just.. yeah)Customer service was absolutely impeccableThank you and see you soon
Excellent bagels and the best Ruben sammie in Oakland! Excellent service. Gina is a boss!!!
Conversation stopping Reubens sandwich. Also delicious latkes.
Honestly the guy who reviewed below me has the whole situation twisted. Wise Sons is an amazing place to grab a bagel at a relaxing pace on Sunday. If you want to plow through your Sunday like its a Monday maybe the wait isnt for you, but the bagels are worth it. The clerk, Manuel, was so nice and upfront about the wait from the time we ordered. He mentioned this location was new several times. We will be coming back to enjoy yummy bagels and kind service :)))))
My wife and I got the cream cheese and lox on an everything bagel. The ingredients were excellent but the bagel... I have leather belts that are easier to chew through. I got a tension headache just trying to get through the thing.
Thats a great breakfast burrito!!
It was hard to find a good bagel on the West coast. Now I can stop looking
Really wanted to love this place. Super stale bagels. You know that tough texture you get when you leave bagels in the fridge then toast it a week later? This is that.
Wise Sons have the only authentic bagels in the Bay Area. Most bakeries produce a donut shaped roll and people think they are eating bagels. I drive 50 miles for Wise Sons bagels and its worth it.
Picked up a cinnamon babka to try it out and it was the dryest thing imaginable, like cardboard. I guess it’s not surprising since their bread just seems to sit in the window... and likely dries out and gets stale. Their sign says they’ve been doing this for 5700 years or whatever but I guess mastering the complex art of “bread that doesn’t taste like paper” takes longer.
Great but I do not get their pickles, Amazing Reuben on great bread!
One of my fave eateries in downtown Oakland!
A good classic bagel and shmear. I like that its open early.Tip: if youre doing a pickup from an online order, be sure to go to the window on 17th street. If you come up to it from Franklin like I did, its not easy to tell and end up standing in line when your order is already ready. Some signage on Franklin would be helpful 👍🏼
I really wanted to be able to post a 5 star review...I moved out of the Bay area a few years ago and had been to Jewish delis in Berkeley, San Francisco and on my regular trips to Los Angeles. I go to extra means occasionally to treat myself. Ive had crossaints shipped from Paris, pizza shipped from New York so the 120 mile round trip drive didnt bother me. Growing up I learned an appreciation for food from my Jewish Mom and my Dad being a professional chef.I ordered a few things---2 sesame bagels,, a #19, and the Downtown special. My friend, also Jewish, ordered some latkhes, chicken soup and ruggalach. I thought the bagels were very good, the #19 was good, the half sandwich with the downtown special disappointed. The bread was good but with it being half of the traditional sandwich it was cheese, bread and meat so very dry. The amount of meat seemed like less than one would get at Subway. The #19 had more meat however. As far as the soup I could see dill was used but couldnt discern its presence. The soup needed a lot more flavor and chicken smaltch. The carrots were fresh, a few little cubes of chicken noted and a large matzo ball that occupied about half the cup. It was soft but the flavor was not memorable. Jewish food is expensive in general and when I think of a Jewish Deli I see an image of a HUGE pile of meat on a sandwich, which is part justification for the hefty price. Unfortunately this trip fell below my expectations. My friend also thought the soup was bland and didnt even finish hers.Thats my take on my visit but if you wish to try this place go and make your own decision.
Good club sandwich
Absolutely the best bagels and shmear in town!
My first experience was A1. I ordered a corn beef sandwich and a breakfast burrito.👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Bagel sandwiches are the best!!
Great food quick service
Unwise choice. 40 minute wait for a couple of bagles. Placed an order at 10:17 (yes I did tip), only three people ahead of me in line. Got my three sandwiches full 40 minutes later at 10:58. Had to come up to the window twice to check on my order, from the looks of things my ticket was lost in the kitchen. Staff remained unapologetic.Bagles were second rate too, and even thought I asked for (and was charged extra) extra shmeer on one of the bagles, they all looked identical in terms of toppings. I am ashamed of my ancestors, who after 5780 years have yet to master the shmeered bagle.
New ownership has ruined this place. So bummed. Cheap cream cheese, cheap lox, cheap coffee.
Love the bagels here!
Great food.
