Came here on a recommendation through a friend. Went on a Saturday late afternoon. Was quite busy. The food was DELICIOUS! We ordered the pastrami breakfast sandwich as well as the chicken salad sandwich and a biscuit. We also got an orange juice and the turmeric tonic. My favorite was the pastrami sandwich and the breakfast potatoes. Their potatoes were probably the best breakfast potatoes I’ve ever tasted! It was a mix of mashed and hash brown potatoes that were crispy on the outside and super light and fluffy and packed with flavor on the inside.Bread on the pastrami was super buttery, and nicely toasted. The chicken salad was really tasty as well. The version to me wasn’t a classic chicken salad per say but a rotisserie style chicken that was super juicy with a hint of Mayo and then all the fixings on the actual sandwich. It was really good.I would highly recommend this place but tiny downside was the service. It was a little slow but I’m going to blame it covid protocols etc to keep things safe an distance etc. everyone there was super nice and the hostess even came out to the car to grab us when it was our turn to order and be seated.Overall would come back again. The food was delicious and the staff was really friendly. 5 stars!
Nothing but the best here. Expect a wait on most days, but very much worth it. Gluten free and plant based items are great - but meat eaters wont go hungry either.
Our first time enjoying Sequoia Diner and boy howdy did we love it!We got the breakfast sandwiches, potatoes, pork sausage, and the biscuits with maple butter. It was ALL amazing and the staff were all super lovely! Worth the wait (everywhere has waits now) and worth the money. 10/10 will be back for more!
Lovely brunch spot with warm and friendly staff, delicious food, and pretty interior. They have a small outdoor seating available.
The food here is bomb. Everything is fresh, tasty and inventive. There’s a modern take on a classic space, and then menu rotates often so there’s always a reason to come back. The coffee and shandy I had were absolutely astounding. I really appreciate that the business reflects the neighborhood and exists to serve great food to their community.
The Pastrami sandwich was very good. The sticky buns were to die for 😋 paired with a cup of coffee. Servers were very attentive and friendly. 👍
Very unusual menu. The bacon eggs and toast is straightforward, but like the shrimp and grits has bacon, sausage, and other stuff in it. Grits could have been more creamy but still very good. They have a hot sauce that is house made that I would love to buy some and take home. All the food coming out of the kitchen looked wonderful. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Time waiting for my food was very appropriate. Wonderful place for breakfast, however get here when the first open or you will wait. Although the wait is worth it.
I visit this place a lot since I work close by. I love how the service is always good and they keep the spot well kept constantly. Prices are affordable and they serve generous portions.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere!
I fail to understand why this place is so popular. Long wait times, high prices, and decent (but not amazing) food. Its not bad, but definitely not worth any wait. If you see a line, keep on walking.
Nice to be able to eat yummy food outside
Very friendly staff, delicious food, and locally owned. Everything I ate during my visit was amazing, from the biscuit to the pleasantly surprising grilled tomatoes that came with my CFS.They have a neat waiting area on the street which gives you time to take in the neighborhood and plan on going to the shops after breakfast.
Overrated and not well suited for business lunches.
Best place for Diner. I like it.
Stopped here for breakfast on our way to Yosemite leaving San Francisco on a Friday and we were so glad that we did. The food was absolutely delicious. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros with chorizos and Shakshuka with merguez, Valencia Orange Mimosas & Shacksbury Rose Cider. As I am writing this review, my mouth is watering just thinking about how good everything was. We only had a 5 minute wait at around 10:45 am. Wishing this place was in PA. It is on the pricier side.
The breakfast here is amazing. Probably the best hash browns/potatoes I’ve had. Gave three stars only because our server was reluctant about moving us to a more spacious table that would better accommodate our party of 5 and told us we were taking up a table that seated 7 to move us. Would have like a friendlier attitude about moving us. However, I’m sure it was not a total representation of their collective serving staff.
I have dreams of the Huckleberry butter and biscuits. It is to die for. 🤤
Highlights: American Breakfast with chorizo and crispy eggs. Biscuits. Beets. Good coffee. This is my favorite breakfast restaurant.Lowlights: No pancakes. Go to Bette’s Oceanview Diner on 4th Street for the best pancakes.
A breakfast spot with delicious coffee, pastries, and food. Love that I can get greens with my breakfast and that the portions arent gigantic. Nice atmosphere, kid friendly, friendly service. Get there early on the weekends... theres already a line before they open!
Great service. I didn’t have to wait long. Friendly staff & good food.
If youre thinking about it, just do it. Great brunch, friendly folks, and a good system for take-out. Love this place! We go regularly, and always when we have guests and want to show off the Laurel.
Excellent food. Eggs are always flavorful and cooked to perfection. I had hash that was a mix of sweet potatoes, white potatoes, bacon and beets. It was delicious along with my poached eggs and toast. They make their own jam. Everything was just wonderful.
This place is totally different inside vs outside. The interior is very creative. The staff is very welcoming as well. The chocolate chip cookie was really good and so was the coffee. I would definitely come back to this place. Definitely visit this place if you are close by :)
Honestly one of the best brunch meals I have had in a long time. They make everything from scratch and you can tell. I ordered the American breakfast which included two poached eggs, hash browns, salad, chicken sausage, and freshly made toasted sourdough bread. I also sampled the freshly made biscuits and jam which were divine. My friend had a veggie scramble which was also wonderful. My only issue was the long wait for a table. But I guess thats how it goes when the food is so good!!!!💗
Wonderful little brunch restaurant. Very very busy requiring quite a wait on Saturday mornings. Everything Ive had is absolutely delicious. Highly recommend.
Usually a wait but the place is small and the food is great. They have a menu with a twist on breakfast staples. I have had the scramble the American breakfast both great choices. The chorizo sausage is so good but had some spice so be ready for a little heat. They have a cute little waiting area about 500 ft from thirst door that is nice to use when waiting and they let you bring coffee out while you wait for your seating.
Super cute space, and good food.
Great casual brunch spot. Food is well made and tasty. The bacon was a standout component. Good for small groups, families, and folks just looking for a well made breakfast.
Great place to eat, cute diner, and great staff and ownership! ;)
Great breakfast menu that is not your normal expected Dennys menu; much more healthy and varied. A bit pricey for the normal budget; two breakfast selections, juice and one coffee came to $58 with 20% tip.
If you’re an early riser on the weekend get there just before opening to avoid a wait. The service is great and the food is the best you’ll find in the area. Biscuit and gravy as well as the omelets are incredible. Sticky bun is amazing.
My favorite local little spot in the hood. They make their own bread. All the food is on point!
This is a true gem. The menu is simple but everything is extraordinary. The service is always great. They make pretty much everything in house, including the jams, the hot sauce and I believe, even the bread. On the weekend, be prepared for an hours wait. Totally worth it.
Really well done! The people are really friendly, efficient and the food is really good. Even though there are many choices for brunch in the East Bay, these guys rise above the rest. Exceeded our expectations!
Sequoia is great, mostly because of the service. The food is good, but nothing absolutely remarkable. As many restaurants in Oakland, it has become trendy and popular because of its success. As a result it can be very busy. A great breakfast spot and highly recommended.
What a beautiful experience. Warm, relaxed atmosphere and clean design with a hint of magic that breaths hospitality. The product is food with integrity. Beautifully done and one of a kind. You wont be disappointed.
Killer place in an up and coming neighborhood. This is the diner tattoos were made for... The thing is, though, the food is killer. Staff are great and its always a good feeling.
Food ranges from well-done classic American breakfast (great biscuits) to fresh takes on the meal. All solidly executed, great chicken sausage too. Solid, friendly service. Only thing to watch for is that they have no espresso machine.
Amazing corned beef hash!!! Also great coffee!
If youve been thinking you have too much money to burn, this is the perfect place to use it.Food is excellent, and you can definitely tell the quality in ingredients. Service is great as well, and even their water is clean. The food is definitely on the pricier side, but I can promise you that youll never find a better combination of unique breakfast foods in the bay area.
Best place to eat in the bay!!! Always 100% satisfied. And Im French ;) and picky about food. Service is excellent, quality of ingredients is very good and the cooking always perfect.
The wait was very much worth it! The breakfast potatoes were amazing, the eggs cooked perfectly, and we had one of their delicious sticky buns. They also have highwire coffee, an East Bay favourite, and will let you grab a coffee while you wait outside. Highly recommend!
Absolutely a spot worth trying, the food is awesome and well prepared, the cost is fair and it is constantly well organized there. Keep up the good work.
Nice little quirky spot, seems to be really popular. Had the goat cheese omelette and continued eating long after I should have stopped. Friendly service and quick too.
Great food and amazing service!
Great atmosphere and service, loved our waitress. Food was good, and coffee was excellent!
An amazing neighborhood joint. My eggs are always cooked perfectly, the coffee strong and the atmosphere, funky. Highly recommended!!
I hit this spot at least once a week.Great food and great staff. The specials are always good, however the beef hash is my go to.By far my favorite place to get breakfast!
Crazily good breakfast here on a lovely Sunday morning. Can get pretty crowded and the wait a tad long during weekend.Had to remove one star since the portion are on the small side, especially for the price.
Great, high quality breakfast and lunch menu. The service is friendly and efficient. Of you are a part of the neighborhood, they make you feel like family.
Truly great food. Each item Ive had has been as fine an example of its kind as I have ever tasted. The corned beef hash is amazing. The only drawbacks are the wait both for a table and for food once you have ordered. But the food is worth the wait.
We had to wait about an hour for Sunday breakfast, but it was definitely worth it. There are plenty of nice shops in the area, so the hour passed quickly. The atmosphere was warm, the service was great, and the food was delicious!Highly recommended...
This place is pricey, but quintessential hipster Oakland. Everything Ive ever had has been tasty (again, pricey, but tasty). Their coffee really hits the spot. Way less crowded on weekday mornings, but even on weekends Ive never had to wait too long for a seat at the bar for a party of two.
Excellent breakfast menu, top drawer baking. Good, friendly service in a comfortable, nicely designed space. Tables and counter service. My waffle and sausage couldnt have been better, and my companion thought her corned beef hash was delicious.
Im giving this such a low rating because of the service. The food was good, particularly they are known for their biscuits which are exceptional. But I left my scarf in my booth accidentally and although I was promised a call back as to whether or not anyone found it no one ever did call me. I dont like when people dont follow through.
Found this place based on reviews while traveling thru Oakland. It was hustling and busy and the service was awesome. Great menu with daily specials as well as fresh baked goods. Definitely a 5 star experience!!
The staff here is always friendly. They make you feel like youre right at home. I cant complain about the food its always a good enough portion and if youre unsure of what to get just ask one of the locals theyll gladly tell you whats their favorite
The best biscuit I have ever had. Quick service, great food and very friendly people. Will definitely be back.
My go to, for weekend brunch!
Service was nice but the portions were tiny and the prices high. Food was just ok. I got the American Breakfast. Supposed to be two eggs, mine were scrambled and I’ve never seen two scrambled eggs look so small. Hash brown portion was tiny too. To get an English muffin instead of toast was $2 extra. And it was a weird English muffin... very doughy and had an odd taste to it. At $20 after tax..... hmmmm. What?? Seems outrageous now that I write it.
The crew here is super friendly. The place is sunlit and the coffee is good. The place is a diner, but I think the vibe is a little more upscale than what I traditionally associate with a diner and the prices are a little higher. This seems to come with better quality ingredients and it works out pretty well. They also have great mimosas if day drinking is your thing. There is literally nothing on the menu that is vegetarian (except their delicious pastries...), if that is something that concerns you.You can expect about a ten to fifteen minute wait on weekends.
I enjoyed a mushroom sandwich and arugula salad that were phenomenal! Service was top notch and the atmosphere was fun and positive.
This place is not just hype. The food is carefully prepared and decently priced. Everything is fresh and visually appealing. The staff is hella friendly; Ive only ever had positive experiences with everyone and weve been there like 20 times. Piece of advice: if youre having breakfast/brunch, get there between 8 am when they open to maybe 8:30 or youll be stuck in the line for awhile.
Favorite brunch spot in Oakland. Family friendly, not overly pricey, and delicious menu. Staff was welcoming and prompt. Long lines on weekends but worth the wait
My favorite places to eat in Oakland when I come home to visit. The staff and owner all made us feel welcome! Will for sure come back over and over!
Walked in around 11am on a Wednesday to a half filled dining room. Asked for a booth so we could sit next to each other and was told it was reserved for a party of 4. Even though the rest of the booths had 2 and 3 people. Rude.I will sit where i want.Portions are great. Biscuits were a little doughy in the middle. Flour wasnt cooked all the way out in the gravy. Made it gritty.None of the waitresses have any real sense of order. And my god, stop asking patrons if everything is okay while our mouths are full and chewing. Do you really expect someone to answer?
Love it! Great food!. Lu our wait staff was so nice. Place always packed!
Sequoia Diner is one of the new hipster establishments that can be missed. It is difficult to find the place because the sign outside just says Diner and is very difficult to see, likely to exude a sense of too cool to find. The space is small and loud. The menu is predominantly breakfast all day, with only 5 lunch items, 2 of which were pork. The prices are geared towards the gentrification of the neighborhood. The service to get us seated was poor and disorganized. Our server seemed unable to juggle the # of tables he had but when we could get his attention he was very friendly and tried to be helpful. The food was pretty tasty but not remarkable or worth the price. I got the tiniest toast Ive ever seen with my eggs. They serve the same raw greens with every meal, the dressing was too salty, but overall went ok even with eggs. Be careful if you order decaf as mine seemed to have been sitting to the point of burning. My friends regular coffee was fine.If a friend asked to go here Id probably be willing to go, but I will not be seeking to go here again nor will I recommend.
Waited 5 mins at the door to be seated for breakfast. Apparently there was only one server working the entire diner, felt kind of bad for her. I didnt feel like she should have another order of pancakes to deal with so I left a tip on the cash register and went across the street only to get an overcooked blueberry muffin.
We had a really lovely breakfast. Our waitress Augusta was really helpful, had some great recommendations, and was really really sweet. The food was delicious and the coffee was great. The fresh squeezed orange juice stole the show.
Prompt friendly service; food was average to good. A bit pricey for concept and quality . $32 for 2 for eggs, potatoes and juice
Wow! So good..so good! The pastries are out of this world. So buttery, so flaky!Yumm! Breakfast is amazing. The wait isnt bad during weekdays.
This place is amazing. Breakfasts are healthy and delicious. The pecan sticky bun is a religious experience. I dont care for their coffee (I think it might be Highwire, which is just too strong for my preference), but they are always OK with me bringing my own mug in to wash it all down (thanks - yall are the best).
I thought this place was hyped up, but after enduring the long wait, was rewarded with fantastic food. This place is always busy for good reason. Best southern biscuits Ive had outside the South. And they have real Maple syrup.
Good food, good staff, good vibes
First time I was there, but it is my grandsons favorite restaurant. Really unusual dishes and the service was excellent. Cant wait to go again!
Some of the best baked goods in the east bay. Pecan sticky bun, daily Danish and biscuits. . All incredibly good!! Good coffee, ok breakfast but those pastries. . Oh man!!!
Delicious coffee, pastries and yummy breakfast and lunch options. I always add a side of their smoked bacon. Get here early on any day as there is always a line. For SATs and Sunday I suggest arriving no later than 745 or else u will wait for a table.
For a perfectly delicious biscuit, potatoes that delight, organic eggs and house cured bacon, Sequoia is the place, if you can deal with the wait for a table.
Great spot! Yummy breakfast, nice staff, comfy furniture. Will start going here regularly for sure.
On Friday April 11th I ordered the chilaquiles and was very disappointed. It was clear the sauce had been on the tortilla chips so long the chips were extremely soggy no crunch. The whole Beans lacked seasoning. The best item on the plate were the garnishes. The service was excellent as well as the pecan sticky bun.
I love the biscuits they taste like my own homemade. I like the diversity with all races staff. Thanks for keeping it real Oakland. I been in this neighborhood for over 20 years. I will be back again to try the waffles.
Nice variety in menu - even catered to a vegetarian friend and health nut. Great food and friendly service. Busy on thr weekend!!
Good food and service was great👍🏼
Delicious food and prompt service. Friendly atmosphere, bright and clean. Kid friendly as well. Sometimes longer wait for a table.
