Stopped by to look at plants and was horrified by how little they care for their indoor plants. They had snake plants, ZZs, crotons and ferns outside freezing (end of October!!!) and all dying. Looked like no one had cared for the plants in over a month!
Everyone is so friendly and helpful. They assisted us in loading 6 patio chairs in our van and after a few tries we got them in. So kind and courteous.
If youre looking for high quality garden and pet products this is the spot. They close a little too early imo, but thats the shoreline for you in all fairness. Prices are a little on the high side but you get what you pay for here.
Got there minutes before closing, but first impressions are pretty good, good amount of stock and variety. Friendly staff. Will go back.
Stopped by since we were going to Dunkin. We noticed a lot of plants. As a person who likes to buy healthy, bug free plants, this is the place. The plants all looked well taken care of. In the past, we made the mistake of buying bug infested plants from WalMart - you know the little creatures with thousands of legs we in the soil. There were so many, I ditched the plants.
Lots of plants there, nice variety too!
I just bought a Weber gas grill from here and had it delivered. The store staff from the delivery driver to the grill expert to the store manager all went above and beyond expectations to make sure it made it to my house in time for Mother’s Day. They are all amazing and deserve raises! Thank you so much and I look forward to giving you all my business in the future!
People are very nice. Helpful and polite. Prices are very high.
When there are so many garden centers and big box stores that stock and sell garden supplies in which to shop, Smithland needs to greatly improve their customer service. This store needs to realize that customers have and make choices of where to shop. I WILL NEVER SHOP IN THIS SMITHLAND LOCATION IN OLD SAYBROOK AGAIN!!! I went to this store to return a garden kneeler / folding bench that broke. I purchased this item (around $50) and around 35 flats of pacasandra @ $185 in May. I walked into the store with the garden kneeler and asked for a credit and wanted to special order 2 of them, thinking I perhaps had a faulty one. A grumpy sales associate at the entrance called the manager who came to the front. The sales associate told the manager that she never saw this item in their store and the manager agreed. I was asked for a sales receipt, which I did not have. I was told I could not return the item. The tone the took with me was as if I was trying to return an item that I did not purchase at Smithland. I was astounded...the manager said he could research the sale but it would take quit some time - asked for my phone #. I said no thanks, got upset with how I was being treated and then I raised my voice and said No forget it. Not worth my time. I will never stop here again! I marched out, the sales associate chuckled under her breath, the manger followed me out trying to calm me down and make amend. I said no thank you. I went home, found the receipt, thought to take it in for a credit - I ripped up the receipt and three the bench out with my recycled items. Then I promptly ordered 2 of the exact same benches on Amazon - I received them the next day via Amazon Prime. SMITHLAND lost me as a customer forever...one who spends hundreds of dollars every season on garden supplies...
