Great experience! I had a small amount of jewelry that I was confident had no value at all, but Cynthia and Morgan (and their beautiful dog!) welcomed me to bring it all for them to look at. They were more concerned that I do my due diligence by having it evaluated than they were with it being of any value. Thanks so much for your time and consideration!

Very thorough and generous with their time. The detail they were able to provide on the history and value of my familys pocket watches far exceeded my expectations. They are knowledgable, friendly, and it was a joy to sit down and discuss the heirlooms I brought. She provided terrific recommendations and it felt like talking to a family member!I would highly recommend their services - Ill be taking all of my jewelry here in the future.

My Fiancé and I just got engaged, and went with a jewelry company in New York who work we love. They made my dream ring with the centerstone as Aquamarine surrounded by diamonds. We got an appraisal from the jewelry company, but to be safe wanted a second opinion.Cindy and her daughter was kind enough to take a look at my engagement ring and confirm the stones are indeed authentic, and the value matched up enough to what my fiancé paid. We really enjoyed these ladies, and recommend them highly!

My husband and I highly recommend Cindy and Morgan Konney at the New England Gem Lab and Appraisal Services, on Main Street, in Old Saybrook, CT.We used their services on two different occasions to have two pieces of jewelry appraised for insurance purposes. Both Cindy and Morgan have significant knowledge, training, certifications and experience related to jewelry appraisals. They were easy to work with and clearly explained the appraisal process and costs before the work began. The jewelry appraised has been in our family for more than 100 years and thus has immense sentimental value. Cindy and Morgan have earned our trust and this is paramount!Martha

Cindy and Morgan were incredibly helpful and informative throughout the appraisal process! I needed to have a family ring appraised but new very little about the process. Cindy helped me determine the best type of appraisal and provided thorough information both in hard copy and PDF form. I would definitely refer them to friends and would use their services again in the future.

Cindy is the one of the most professional and straight forward people I have ever met! She first determines your objective and then goes througheach peice and gives you a sense of value. If you want her to take it further she does that too but doesnt over service and over charge right away. She understands that people who do not do this for a living have no idea what they have or its value and takes a staged approach. I would highly recommend her to anyone as she is not only good at what she does but is honest and fair in her business dealings.

This review is long overdue, though they say better late than never. Cindy was an amazing help in my adventure that was my finding a diamond and setting with which to propose. After what seemed like endless research I purchased a diamond online with the intention of working with a jeweler to design a setting. I was nervous about purchasing a diamond that I had not seen in person, so I immediately set up an appointment with Cindy to get the diamond itself inspected and appraised. I figured this would mean Id incur twice the cost since my plan was to bring back the finished ring once the diamond was set; however much to my surprise Cindy was kind enough to inspect my diamond at the first meeting and instructed me to bring it back when the setting was complete for a one time charge rather than two full appraisals. It was very kind of her, we agreed that rather than a full appraisal report on the diamond alone she would wait until I came back to appraise the full ring and generate a report. This meant that I gained the reassurance that I had not been duped with my online purchase without needing to pay for two appraisals (which I was willing to due to gain that assurance). As for Cindy herself, its honestly like visiting a close relative that knows more than you ever thought possible about jewelry. She is kind, thorough, and an extremely interesting person. The conversation with Cindy was worth the visit alone. The appraisal did not take long and she even teaches you while she works and allows you to inspect your piece with some of her equipment to better understand what she is doing and gain a deeper connection to the piece you are having appraised. She explains everything shes doing and why shes doing it. She even gave us great lunch recommendations to try out after we were finished. If you are looking for someone who is good at what they do and just a pleasure to work with then Cindy is the perfect choice. Shes obviously very passionate about what she does, and that goes a long way in making you feel good when getting the appraisal.

My wife received some jewelry from her Step-Mother and we wanted to make sure what we had before insuring and storing the objects. We went to our neighborhood jeweler who recommended that we come to New England Gemological Laboratory and have Cynthia look at the pieces. We could not have been happier! She looked at each individual ring and stone and let us know what type of stone it was, its size and approximate value. Cynthia talked about each setting and its condition and what my wife should do prior to wearing it. She seems to enjoy learning about the origins of the jewelry as much as we enjoyed hearing about them. There is a lot of science involved, and she has a whole wall of degrees and certifications proving she really knows what she is talking about. Very educational, and a real delight to talk to. I would highly recommend her for jewelry examination and appraisal. Beautiful little town, very nice store. This is actually the first time I have ever written a Google review, but I was impressed enough to take the time to do it!

Cindy and her associate went above and beyond for my family today. She compassionately donated her time and expertise and gave us honest and professional information on the value of our family jewelry. She shared her wisdom of the profession and friendly advice on the best route for us to take. Cindy and her associate were extremely knowledgable, kind, professional and trustworthy. They had nothing to gain from my visit yet I left feeling treated as well as a high paying customer. I would recommend them to everyone I know and will always give them my business in the future. Thank you so much for making an emotionally difficult experience a wonderful one.

I met with Cindy a few weeks ago to have her appraise an engagement ring. She is extremely detail oriented and willing to explain her process as she inspected the ring. She has an immense knowledge of diamonds and jewelry and encouraged me to ask questions along the way. I brought the paperwork and certificates for the diamond ring and Cindy was spot on with her identification of the ring and diamonds specifications. The experience was very thorough and informative, I wouldnt hesitate to use her services again. Thank you Cindy!

We met with Cindy last week to have several pieces of jewelry appraised. Cindy was extremely helpful in explaining to us what each piece of jewelry was and the approximate value of that piece. She was very patient with us and answered all of our questions. Her knowledge of the different types of jewelry was awesome and she was a pleasure to deal with. We highly recommend Cindy and the NE Gem lab for all of your jewelry appraisal needs.

This past June, I sent a package of jewelry to a consignor in Tennessee, but she never received the package. Luckily, I had insured it. However, when I began processing the claim, I encountered a variety of difficulties in completing the process. The final step was an appraisal from a disinterested third party. I knew of no appraisers, but a friend, who is a jewelry purveyor, suggested Cindy Konney. Cindy and I had a most courteous and helpful conversation and she agreed to provide an appraisal on almost no notice. Her document was detailed and reasonable and cleared the way for my claim to be processed. If not for Cindy, I would still be wondering how to receive what was owed to me. I have not yet had the pleasure of meeting Cindy, but highly recommend her to everyone. Leslie Haber

Last year, my wife and I had gone to India where we purchased a set of 7 gemstones that included blue sapphires, yellow sapphires and emeralds from a well known jewellery store. We were offered a reasonably good price on the stones and were quite pleased with the purchase at the time. We returned to the States and during a visit to a local jewellery store, we showed the stones to the store jeweller. We were shocked when he informed us, after looking at the stones that they might not be of authentic quality. After checking with a few other places and getting negative feedback, we opened a case through American Express since we used an AMEX card to pay for the transaction. After a lot of paperwork back and forth AMEX finally came back and requested us for a professional gemstone appraisal from an Independent Certified Gem Appraiser. After a lot of searching on Google, we found Cindys contact information. She was one of the only persons in Fairfield County, CT who fulfilled all the criteria and had all the professional gemstone qualifications that AMEX was looking for. Cindy was able to provide us an appointment date at short notice and we showed her the stones. She offered to write us a document with details specific to the American Express request. It was an unique situation, but she handled the request very professionally. We received the document today from Cindy and it was well beyond our expectations. The document contained detailed and precise analysis of the stones along with comparative data cross referencing the stone certificates and the invoice we had been provided. Through meticulous measurements of all the stones, she proved, beyond any doubt, that the stones were not representative of the what we got invoiced for.We are very thankful for her having provided us with a level of help that I doubt any of the big name gemstone companies could have matched. Her personalized attention to our case was exemplary and I guess this is what separates excellent service vs the service youd receive at a commercial establishment. I heartily recommend her for anyone looking for gem appraisal services. Although I am no expert in the field, with the level of professionalism we received, I have no doubt that others would have similarly positive experiences.**** Update - We received an update from American Express within 3 days of us providing them with Cindys well documented results. Based on the analysis, AMEX was able to conclude that the stones were not consistent with the gemstone certificates and invoice data and issued a FULL refund of the purchase price including foreign transaction fees. AMEX indicated that merely showing that the prices were exorbitant would not have made a difference (i.e, just a conventional appraisal would not have been sufficient). What they really needed was concrete proof of the discrepancies and the documentation was able to provide a solid basis to make this determination. Once again, we are thankful to Cindy for her personal touch and approach that helped make all the difference.

Cindy was very detailed and had lots of useful equipment in her office. The location is set in a quaint and quiet Old Lyme setting, which makes you feel at ease bringing it from your car to her office. This is the first time I had an expensive piece of jewelery (enough to be appraised - it was an engagement ring), so to many this may seem as a small detail, but to me it was huge as Im still in the worried phase about losing it or getting it stolen. On to the appraisal. Cindy was very easy to work with to set up the appointment, and was very flexible. I brought her the loose diamond first, and she appraised it without seeing the certification. To my surprise, she graded the color 1 step higher and the clarity 1 step lower. She said I picked out a very well cut diamond and paid a good price for it, which goes a long way for me to hear since it was the first diamond I purchased after putting months of time and research into it. She plotted out the stone, which matched my AGS report. She also let me view the stone through an ideal scope and the microscope to see where my inclusions were and why she was grading it the clarity it was. She also used a Sarin machine to grade the color after she compared it to her master set. She graded it a D, but my AGS report graded it an E. She used the Sarin Machine, and it came back as D so she was more accurate.I came back a few weeks later after purchasing the ring and having the diamond set. She prepared the in detail appraisal report with me at that time and provided a copy for insurance. She provided a fair and appropriate appraisal amount using the different books and online resources she subscribes to which provide daily/weekly and monthly updates on prices. It was much better than the appraisal you receive from the jeweler you purchased it from. This will help me save money on my insurance premium, but will also be enough to replace the diamond without worry if lost.Overall Cindy is very professional and friendly. She will answer any question you have and does not mind sharing her wealth of information. Felt like I was talking to a friend.Wish I had more jewelery to get appraised by her, but Ill need to resort to waiting a few years until I re-appraise the engagement ring again.
