Allens Marine is absolutely a scam! I sent my 1979 Volvo Penta classic to get out drive repair work done. Mark calls me with a $1986 quote saying he could have me back in the water for that price. Giving someone a quote means that you went through the part to be repaired and agree that you can perform the work. Obviously he came up with this number off the top of his head because, if he would have went through the unit, he would have known exactly what he was getting into. I have a good question for Mark, what is the work to be performed for $1986? Can you give me an itemized list of exactly what you saw inside and what needed to be repaired? If Mark would have truly went through the unit, he would have known that he was not going to be able to get the housing apart! He honestly made up a number off the top of his head is all I can figure. He then tells me that he has been working on getting the housing a part for a few hours and that he was applying heat to do so. First of all, if you apply heat to a part that is cast aluminum, you are weakening the material. Secondly, any gaskets or seals or anything internal that is plastic will be disintegrated applying heat for hours an hours. I instructed him to spend a little more time trying to get the part disassembled and if not since he applied all that heat and further damaged my unit, then he should call it even and let me come pick up my boat because he did not perform any actual repair work, and has only caused me to have to spend more money. Next thing you know I get a phone call and he says that he cannot do anything for me and to pay him $750, almost half of the original quote. He refuses to put another secondhand lower unit on it which I don’t get because if he gets a second hand lower unit he’s going to have to go through it to make sure everything is up to par and he will only make more money. Long story short, now I have to take him to court to straighten out all of this and I do not recommend anyone bring their boat to Allens Marine in Pascagoula Mississippi. Right is right and wrong is wrong. He knows he caused more damage with the heat. He assured me that he’s been doing it a long time and applying heat is the trick. Little does he know I’m a welder and have really good common sense about metals and gaskets. If you bring your boat to be repaired there, I recommend you retain your attorney ahead of time!
Mark helped me get back on the water and ripping lips. I broke my big tiller handle and had some damage to my lower unit. He fixed the tiller within 2 days. Then i brought it back for the lower unit had it done in a few days. He was backed up. But he got me going fast with a new prop also. I would recommend Mark to anyone fast, dependable, professional and just a down to earth kind of guy.
Has provided my outboard maintenance services for 8 years. Excellent marine mechanic.
I found Mark to be dishonest and a thief. I took my 40hp Honda to him because it wouldnt keep running. It would start good but go dead in less than 10 seconds. I changed the hi-pressure fuel pump and the fuel pressure regulator and had no improvement. I told him I thought it was an electrical problem. He said he would do a diagnostics on it and let me know. He called me later and said it was a fuel problem and he needed to do a rebuild of the vapor separator and gave me an estimate of about $450 for the job. Remember, I had a new fuel pump and regulator. he did the rebuild and told me that wasnt the problem. then he changed all the hoses and filters and a couple other things and the bill raised up to $741. Then he told me that wasnt the problem either. Then he told me I had to have some kind of sensor that controls the electronics for the fuel pump. He changes that and then tells me my bill is now up to $1251. Then he tells me that my BRAND NEW fuel pump isnt any good, that its locked up, but he has a used one that hell sell me for $135 and hell give mine back so I can send it back to the manufacturer so I can get a refund. Now the problem is, the one he gave me back isnt my BRAND NEW fuel pump. After 5 or 6 weeks in the shop I go and get it and tells me one of the fuel hoses is still leaking, but he has one on order to fix it with. After I get it home, I start the motor up to find the the leak. I am really dumbfounded when I find that the hose isnt leaking but he has broken one of my injector O rings and gas is pouring out. What does it say about someone who is supposed to be a mechanic, and they go through all this BS and screw someone the way he did me? I know, Im an idiot for letting him do it. it ended up costing $1399.15 for a $450 job.DO NOT TAKE YOUR MOTOR TO ALLENS MARINE IN PASCAGOULA. I also had a fuel tank to motor fuel hose that I made last year. when I got my boat back, he had put an in line fuel filter in and I no longer had my new fuel line. It looked like he picked up a hose off the ground with a pump bubble and used it. Also he supposedly had to change my brand new fuel pressure regulator for some reason that I havent heard yet. I asked him if I had any kind of guarantee on this and he said he would guarantee it would be running when it left his shop and thats all. On Sunday 10/6 I decided to go Crappie fishing so I put my trolling motor on my boat and take off. when I get done fishing I decide to run my Honda about 75 yards to the landing on idle and it does good. Today(10/8) I decide to go to the river fishing. I launch my boat and start off at an idle and everything is good. I get about 200 yards from the landing and decide to see if it will run on the high end. It starts off good but within 200 its starving for gas and will not run above an idle. does anyone know of a Honda mechanic who knows what they are doing? Now I know why he doesnt give any guarantee with his work It also makes me wonder if he stole my brand new injectors I put in the motor in June of 2019
Great personal service. I had a rough experience with a local dealer and Mark really helped me out on short notice. Honest and easy to work with.
