Great down to earth shop and crew. Bring in your parts knowing what you need to have done and theyll knock it out. Thanks for the help!
Was able to get into the place today. I didnt know they only work on engines outside of the vehicles. Personnel in building were polite and let me know the steps for getting my engine diagnosed then returning to them for an estimate for repair. Now I need to get the diagnosis, find out the estimate and most importantly, find someone to pull my engine.
Great service! Fast and knowledgeable. Had my cylinder head cleaned, checked, disassembled, machined and reassembled in 1 work day. I’ll be using them for all my future needs.
The guys here are great. They know their skill set and have been doing this for a long time, well over 30 years. I brought my subaru block, heads, and other parts for clearance checks, honing, and cleaning. They did a superb job on everything and I now have over 2,000 miles on my rebuilt motor with no issues. These guys stay busy; it took a month turnaround before my parts were ready for pickup. They appreciate military service members and the shop dog is a boss too! Oh yeah, one last thing, great prices too.
Todd and his staff are very reasonably priced and full of knowledge
I had a stripped helicoil repair on my outboard and thought I would need a new block. The guys were able to fix it on the spot with a larger sturdier thread repair without going through the water jacket. I have everything back together and the thread repair felt solid as a rock and took the full torque spec like a champ.
Customer services was greatEstimated time repair quicker than saidHighly recommend
Had a great experience with Coastal Engine & Machine. I had a flywheel/pressure plate that I needed balanced in a pretty non-standard manner. After a bunch of calling around, I discovered this was one of the few, if not the only shop in town that had the equipment to do this. The guys there did good work and the turnaround was quick, too. Even though this was a small job, they had great attention to detail. I will be going back to these guys for any future machine shop needs.
This shop is properly one of a kind. More than the quality work they do, Todd is just honest, and genuinely values his customers and their interests. I called them to do a job, and brought my engine down to drop it off and have it machined. When I was about to leave, I mentioned Id be moving with the engine components shortly after they were done, and Todd said it made more sense to just wait to have them machined at my destination in case the parts got dirty or damaged in the move, so they wouldnt have to be machined twice. He had a job in hand, and threw it out because it would be better for me as a customer. I dont know of any other place, of any category of service, that is that honest and straightforward.I found out I had a bit of time before my move, so I went back with my parts and had him do them anyways. Great work, but even better people. Thank you guys so much!!
I was quoted 5300.00 for a repair by another local machine shop, Coastal Engine took the time to diagnose the condition correctly, saved me about $3000.00. In a world of just install a new one, it is better to find a person like Todd who is knowledgeable and professional. I will definitely use Coastal again. 5 stars.
Had a cylinder burn out on my Yamaha outboard. I brought the cylinder head in to be honed. Thought it was gonna set me back a couple thousand. They did great work and managed to get me out the door at a way better price than I thought I would. Got over ten hours on the motor since I’ve rebuilt it and it’s still going stronger than it was before I had the issue. The expert advice I received helped immensely as well in making sure everything went back together well.
These guys are awesome. Todd help me troubleshoot my smoking engine over the phone. I was ready to pull the head and bring it too him. He ordered me some new valve seals and that did the trick. He saved me a lot of time and money. I wish more businesses were like this one. I will definitely be going back and recommending him to all my friends. Thanks.
Great service and a good prices. The guy can fix anything. Todd and his crew have done everything from high performance engines, industrial diesel work to welding stainless for me. Give them a shot!
Todd at Coastal Engine & Machine is among the best people I know. Did a fantastic job on my Mercruiser 5.0 heads and then provided invaluable information to allow me to finish my rebuild. Did I mention he was the one who diagnosed my problem in the first place? If you need anything engine, or just a good guy to bounce ideas off of, go to Coastal!
Rebuilt my daughters 1991 Nissan Hardbody V-6 engine. Fantastic job, great time frame, great communication. I have recommended them, will continue and will take anything else I have there.
My experience with Coastal Engine & Machine was really exceptional! My 1986 4AGE motor was completely restored and is running perfectly. I couldnt have asked for a better machine shop. Thanks Todd and crew!
Needed a cylinder head looked at in a time crunch, they were able to get me in and resurfaced the head within 20 minutes!!! Now granted I didnt know their workload at the time, but couldnt ask for better courteous service. I will ONLY recommend this shop, no other shop can meet the service.
Todd and his crew do EXCELLENT work! Cant beat the price and quality of my Ford 302 rebuild. Next time that I have a classic to get rebuilt, its going to Coastal Engine and Machine shop. See pics below.
Just wanted to write a quick note; I spend my days talking to shops and this has to be one of the nicest guys I have ever talked to, I would highly recommend just based off his knowledge and great phone prescence. Thanks for the referral.
Todd is the man! Always fast and job performed correctly.
Excellent
Great machine work. Honest, friendly, and still answering follow-up questions and willing to help with the engine I had rebuilt 2 years ago for my 68 convertible Skylark.
Todd and his crew did an outstanding job reworking the cylinder heads on my daughters car. They were able to get them back to me in less than 24 hours. Todd went above and beyond answering questions and trouble shooting other issues with the engine. Thanks for everything.
Didnt charge me an arm an a leg for pressing bearings on my pinion and my differential. Taking off the old bearings and installing the new ones was only 50 bucks. Ill be using them more in the future!
Great service, works with a little bit of everything, from small engine to marine to full race motors. Give them a try, you wont be disappointed!
Add my head in-and-out of there in no time customer back on the road smiling
If you want it done right then this is the place for you. Good honest service and amazing quality in his work.-Richard Behnowner Fairfield Imports
Long story short, be careful with this shop and double check theyre work. I had a engine done by them in December of 2014. The build was a turbo charged 5.3 set up. I paid $877 and some odd change for the assembled short block along with boring the cylinder walls, degreeing the cam, file fitting the Pistons rings and more I assumed. I ran the engine up until March of 2015 due to being tasked for a deployment until October of 2015 and continued to drive the vehicle after that date with no problems and decided to open the rings gaps more so I would be able to run more boost without any problems. I dropped the short block off back to his shop December of 2015 for opening the the rings for bigger boost and to install a different cam. Some how I ended walking out of the with another $800 plus bill when I simply asked for those two things. By this point Im bothered but non the less I just wanted my truck back on the road so I paid the ticket and thought I would be done spending money. It took me a couple of days to put everything back together and when I did managed to get everything running the vehicle had a terrible misfire at low rpm. It was so bad that it would not keep a steady idle without feathering the gas. I then went through the whole process of trying to figure out what was going on so I sent the heads off to be inspected, sent to injectors off to be flow tested and cleaned and before I took it apart I ran a couple of compression test on the vehicle with no luck. I also did multiple vaccum leak test as well. At that point I just took a months break off from the whole situation and focused on my other build. Step by step I have been calling Todd to tell him whats going on with the vehicle and he keeps referring back to it being me or the tune so I decide to put the short block up forsale and be done with it all. By April 4th of 2016, a potential buyer is interested in the engine so I schedule a meeting for him to check it out. Upon the gentlemens inspection he found damage to the crankshaft and the reluctor wheel. I also found damage to a cylinder wall in which Todd called it ring drag. I then contacted Todd and let him know what we found and I asked that he please speak to the potential buyer because he wanted to know what was going on with it and what was the cause. During my conversation with Todd I tried to send him pictures of the damage and he refused them and said he didnt need it. I dont really know what was said between him and the potential buyer but the gentlemen told me that Todd didnt know what he was talking about and that he would have to see it. A couple days past due to me thinking of my next plan of action so I decide to not sale the engine due to all the problems that were found and me not being comfortable with giving someone junk. My first thought was to just take him to court, but being in the military I barely have enough time to myself and not to add all the expenses and the possibility of it not going anywhere so Ive decided to just let It go. Im almost out of $2000 dollars and it all could have been avoided if I would just have chosen a better machine shop so please just be careful with your money. I have yet to call Todd, Im a firm believer in customer service and since he knows of all this, he still hasnt lifted a figure to try to make it right. Life goes on so Ive sent the crank off to a more experience shop and Ill have the short block inspected and checked or possibly rebuilt again before I decide to run that engine again. I have pictures of everything, I wish I had a way to post them.
Knowledgeable staff, reasonable pricing
