WOW!! If you are looking for some great food, then this is you place. I was loving the flavors of everything we ordered. You MUST TRY the Philly Cheesesteak Rolls...outstanding. To be honest..I never expected a restaurant like this to have Egg Rolls and Fried Rice, but I was very presently surprised by both dishes. I will eat here for sure on every visit to this area. LOVE IT.
Bartenders there try to steal your money. I was just there in the club section. Nowhere anywhere behind the bar is a sign saying theyll take 20% gratuity automatically. I tell them Ill close out and they give me a credit card slip merchant and customer copy without an itemized copy. I had to get the bartenders attention to ask for an itemized copy which they always should give you but didnt. When I asked 2 minutes later he gave me the itemized copy. I naively focused on the items and confirmed I had as many drinks that were on the ticket but did not add the prices up in my head. Did not look at the taxes and assumed the numbers added up because I dont go out that much, drinks are expensive, and no bar automatically includes gratuity for drinks only. So I tipped on top of the total 12 more dollars not realizing gratuity was included. I dont recommend trusting their bartenders. I also will be contacting them for my 12 dollar tip refund. You can see the time stamp difference in the image of the itemized vs when they closed me out.
Stopped by for a Sunday brunch inside the diner. With the recent heat in Philly, I decided to not reserve a spot on the patio, but it is an option when making a reservation.Overall, this was a fun brunch spot with a few items that I didnt love. First, service was fairly slow. I would imagine they were short staffed, but it did take a good bit of time from being seated to being able to order.Next, drinks were tasty, but I would argue overpriced for the amount of drink received and how strong they were. Finally, in terms of food, the pancakes were excellent. However, I was not a fan of the almost chicken stock flavored gravy on the chicken and waffles. The flavor was odd, and the gravy made the waffles soft far quicker than normal.I would come back to give brunch another try, but its a tough sell when there are other top tier brunch spots.
My favorite restaurant in the whole country are driven from Southern Maryland several times to venture indulge in the wonderful food..For starters the chicken and waffle on the brunch menu is to die for.. it may actually change your life. I love the fluffiness of the Belgian waffle and the wonderful gravy mix with the chicken.Next their dinner menu... I have that great vegetarian and vegan options..But I think my favorite is the appetizerFrom the fried green tomatoes; to the miniature Chicken and Waffles or just the french fries you cant go wrongPlease for the love of God dont forget the apple pie it is loaded up like something Ive never seen before its like theyre stacking pure gold in there..
Philly always has a place in our heart so visiting it a second time was fun. We stopped at Silk City based on some youtube exposure on it and it did not disappoint. The food and drinks were incredible and the service was good. The vibe in this place is also so much fun. Definitely recommend this place!
Good spot to grab dinner with a great outdoor area. The patio is very eclectic and has a fun vibe. They had misters set up in the tents because it was really hot. The food was tasty and came out quickly. The drink list was a little different than what they had online, so they didn’t have the beer I wanted available. The staff was very friendly.
Even though it state its a Diner in my opinion, it is not. The menu is very limited and from other Diners I have gone to, breakfast is served all day and their menu is more versatile. However I do have to say that the lounge area appears to be the main attraction at this venue and the music that was being played was AWESOME. If my kids were not with me I have gone to the lounge area.
I’m from out of town but I stayed in Philadelphia this past weekend for a wedding. Came here solo on a Sunday around 11:00am for brunch. Street parking was easy to come by on the surrounding streets and I ended up parking around the corner about a 2 min walk from the restaurant. Their “garden” was open for for brunch and I sat at the bar. Gina was the bartender who took care of me and she was an absolute sweetheart! She helped me pick out the perfect brunch cocktail after chatting with her for a few minutes. She was great with the other customers as well.I had the waffle and it was excellent! It comes with a fresh berry compote and a sweet whipped cream. The berry compote was delicious. I had the purple rain to drink, it’s great if you’re into margaritas. The garden is beautiful and vibes are on point. This place attracts a good crowd. I would love to come back during the evening on a weekend to see what else this place has to offer. I’ll be back next time I’m in Philly.PLEASE NOTE THAT GRATUITY IS AUTOMATICALLY ADDED TO THE BILL!
The food was good. My family had the cheesesteak egg rolls and the wings and they said that they were amazing. My son said hands down the best cheesesteak egg rolls that he has ever had. Now I have to go back to try them. I had the loaded fries …. Fries smothered in prime rib in a brown gray and cheese curds. I passed on the cheese sauce because I just don’t eat cheese sauce on anything. We had the frozen Pain Killer. That is simply an amazing drink and is probably now my favorite drinkWe sat outside and the area made me feel like I stepped out of Philly. They did a great job
I’ve been here in the past and it was wonderful. Went today and it was not great. We ordered quick then waited 40 minutes for the check. Ask our sever waited 30 minutes then went to the front and asked for the check they said our server had to take it he takes it another 10 minutes waiting for him to come back. The lady up front was rude about it. They added 20% gratuity. Just a bad experience. We were very polite about the whole thing and they were constantly rude. Don’t go here.
The food is always great, well prepared and presented, with fresh ingredients. The outdoor dining was comfortably socially distanced. Menu was limited, parking is on-street and challenging. They lost a star due to an extremely explicit song playing, (while a 3 year old was at the next table) and staff didnt even notice. Not a deal killer, but it made me very uncomfortable.
Complete surprise. It was fabulous. The food coming from the kitchen was perfect in size, presentation, and taste. Great staff too ! We will definitely go back
I was aggressively thrown to the curb by security after being falsely accused of misconduct. The general manager George (who refused to give me his last name) refused reentry because patrons cant see someone get thrown out and then come back even though he admitted that I did nothing wrong. This was at an event that I purchased a ticket for entry.I would recommend this place to nobody, unless you want to get assaulted by staff and when faced with the General manager, George he refused to give his last name because he himself is ashamed of the terrible service this venue provides.Update: the aforementioned GM George, provided me with his email and has ignored my attempts to make contact. Truly Embarrassing.
The ambiance of the outdoor garden set the mood for a phenomenal date night, but that freaking cheeseburger...OMG...that was the star of the show! It was so delicious! Definitely got to come back here soon.
Really nice spot. Never knew silk city existed. Great drink selections. Service was on point. I sat in the outside area. There is plenty of cover from the direct sunlight and/or rain. They also have a inside dining area. Music is played over the loudspeakers. On Sundays you can park on the street. Public transportation can get you here as well. The bathrooms are clean. Food came out quickly and was hot. Prices are reasonable. Will be back again
Everything was absolutely delicious. My table ordered 6 different items (huevos rancheros, waffles, pancakes, shrimp and grits, mushrooms omelet, french toast) we all shared. Not one dish was weak. Good coffee, fresh OJ great service. We sat outside, really nice space. Highly recommend.
Went for a Sunday brunch was seated immediately despite not having reservations. Food was delicious. Always a plus and always great waiters
Great value for the quality and quantity of food. Definitely 5 stars. We definitely got lucky getting seated with a party of 5 with no reservation. Made sure I added a little extra gratuity to the standard 20%
A great outdoor experience. Food was good and service was also good. I Highly recommended this restaurant
GREAT food and service! Loved the option of sitting inside or out. Despite light rain, we were able to enjoy eating outside with the unbrella/canopy covering
Love, love, love it! A retro 50s rail car diner in the middle of Philly with a magic garden for outdoor dining, with pleasant, efficient staff and yummy drinks. We started a table of 3 with the Hummus starter. A perfect presentation with warm pita wedges, roasted chickpeas, fresh veggies and olives hearty enough for us all. I had the Crispy Maitake Mushroom sandwich and my taste buds were blown away. The perfectly crispy coating of the mushroom with creamy aoili, lettuce, tomato would have been perfect on their own....I added avocado and wow!!! A must go back list addition for sure. I was so excited that I forgot to mention the apple pie, no icky-sticky goo but layer upon layer of thinly sliced perfectly sweet and cinnamony apple enfolded into one of the best crusts Ive ever had...even the bottom was perfectly brown and flaky.
Love Silk City. Been going here for over 20 years. Good is always great. Outside seating is great and the fries are sooo good!
The service here was very disappointing. The food was very delicious but our waiter was not at all at attentive. We waited over 30 and more mins for our check. He only visited our table once and that was for taking our order. They lost our check with our cards! Very unprofessional and we were very kind and understanding towards him but he laughed at us towards the end when we asked him if he found our check again?! How is that even acceptable? I hope he was just having a bad day and this isn’t a recurring thing. Will not visit again & not recommend.
I never heard of Silk City before, but the line waiting to get inside for breakfast was a good indicator that it would be worth trying.Silk City is a diner, an outdoor cafe, a bar, a performing arts center and a music venue all in one.The place is well run with an enthusiastic staff. The music provides for a great vibe in a fun space.Breakfast was simple, but very good. I had the omelette with sausage, vegetables and the home fries.
Just had such a delicious dinner at Silk City!!! The outdoor garden was beautiful and kept us warm and dry. The cocktails were great. For apps we enjoyed the hummus, polenta fries, and disco fries. It was all very good, and every element of each dish seemed to be homemade! The fish and chips were delicious, and service was great. My friends ordered the fried chicken and it looked amazing. I will definitely be coming back soon.
Terrific food. The best fried chicken Ive had in years. Served with spinach and mashed potatoes and had a buttermilk coating. All four of us loved our meal. Service good also.
Loved the painkiller, French toast and mushroom omelette at least as much as I loved the atmosphere on the patio.. This is my kinda place :)
This place is an experience - part diner, part light show, with a nod to Halloween. And great food with lots of vegetarian options. Service was excellent, too!
Great place..reasonable prices. I had Thai wings and the Mac and cheese, which was delicious.
Ordered: Buttermilk Fried ChickenThe dark meat carried this dish to be honest, sad I didn’t save it for last. The chicken was a perfect amount of crisp and moist, but the skin shed off the meat very easily. The batter itself could have used more flavor I wont lie. The sauce underneath helped add to the flavor but there almost wasn’t enough. The honey flavor rly shined through. There was a whole lot of chicken too, lasted me 3 meals. The collard greens were very flavorful. Tangy and salty, just enough to be tamed by the creamy mashed potatoes, which had just the right amount of chunky to smooth texture. The greens added the very much needed cut to tdhe protein and carb heavy meal.Waiter was Seth, he seemed nice. Never ran out of water, easy to order from, memorized order and recited back to us to verify. Very cool. Took a while with the receipt though but apparently it is standard for waiters to never ask to split the check. The entryway to the garden was not very new-person friendly, had to pass 2 main-entrance looking doors to get to the right one. A sign would have been nice. Menu was easy to read, good options I think idk.It was pretty full in the beginning pretty loud talking atmosphere - but granted I was sat right in the corner, in front of a plant I may add. The speaker was also directly to the side of us. Fire playlist to be honest, havent heard a queue like that in a restaurant in a long time. The garden had string lights, leaf strings, plants, and leaf strings with lights incorporated in them. It was a very comfortable venue, concrete walls decorated with some lackluster but abstract red wispy designs. The tent shape allowed for an even distribution of light across the main floor. The plastic/cloth ceiling allowed for no rain to enter If it were to be an issue. The tables allowed for plenty of space, but it was very high up to an almost uncomfortable degree. All the chairs were different, but mine being a slab of laminated wood did get old and uncomfortable after a while. All I really needed to make it a perfect experience was to put a candle of some sort in the center of the table. That would be so cute tbh.9/10🥰
Fun and eclectic. Good food, great outdoor space and diner. Does not allow dogs in the outdoor space however, had to leave one day because I brought my dog along, just a heads up.
Last time was a horrible service by the young guy. Attitude was given right from the start.I understand that Silk City includes 20% automatically (waiters wont inform you about this, btw), due to Covid times but this leaves no room for the staff to be motivated.
Amazing food. Best salmon Ive had in a very long time.
Great service. Had the Thai wings and they were delicious! Love the decorations and the ambiance. Cant wait to go back.
The food was good. Hamburger and chicken and waffles. I was expecting it to be better, but it was good. Service left something to be desired. Never was able to get my water refilled and repeatedly had to try and flag down our server to get the bill. Never once did he ask how things were, or if we needed anything. Likely wont go back.
A very diverse crowd. It was lit in here. Great for drinks and dancing.
Beautiful and funky patio and a lovely bartender to fill us with good and drink
Ok this was my first time eating there and I will definitely be returning the staff was great the drinks were great the food was great I tell u I took home some for hubby he say these wings are great and if he didnt complain he couldnt BECAUSE SILK CITY IS GREAT 💯💥💯😍
Food was tasty. I will go back there to eat.
Had a great experience when I was there. The food was amazing! The menu is a nice variety of offerings for everyone.
The best outdoor experience ever, plan to visit this place again when I am in Philly.
Loved it! Great service and food. Nice atmosphere down in the heart of the city
This is an American dinner, with some southern preparations as well. Their bar list is good, although Yards brewery is right across the street 😁 I love the hush puppies and highly recommend that. As for their fried food, me and my friends didnt feel very great after our meal here. The food tasted well though.
The staff is professional and friendly, from security at the front door, to the bartender who took my order. The place has great energy! The shrimp burger is deeliish!
Service was great....food never takes long to come out....love their food Im never disappointed when I go
The service was horrible. Seemed our waiter did not want to be there. After taking our order, he disappeared. No refill on our water- would have wanted to order drinks but???? We had to ask another waiter to give us the bill! The fish and chips - well mediocre.
Great service and the outdoor area is so cute
Great spot, food was delicious per the usual. The table shared the bananas foster french toast...amazing. The turkey blt was so good...all was amazing and I have no pictures since I started eating and wasnt thinking lol
Love this restaurant, the food is excellent, the service and atmosphere keep us coming back....only thing dont care for is the automatic gratuity on the bill.
AWESOME! AWESOME! AWESOME! GREAT FOOD, GREAT SERVICE AND THE STAFF IS SO AWESOME! IF YOU PLAN TO SPEND A DAY IN THE CITY STOP ON BY SILK CITY LIKE I DO. I HAD THE CHICKEN CAESAR SALAD THIS TIME BUT EVERYTHING IVE HAD IS ALWAYS DELICIOUS. THE BURGERS YUMMY! THE STEAK SANDWICH AWESOME! CHICKEN TO DIE FOR! NO MATTER WHAT YOU HAVE HERE YOU CANT GO WRONG. AND YOUR ALWAYS GREETED BY A FRIENDLY SMILING SERVER. I SEE WHY THEY HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR A LONG TIME! ITS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. :)
I still love the place, but the food use to be better.
This is the most overrated place Ive ever been to. The food is straight up bland. No seasoning whatsoever on anything, and there wasnt even salt and pepper on the table to help us out. And they have the audacity to add on a 20% tip for all customers regardless of how we like the service.
Had a ball and a half here! The staff was friendly, funny and on point. My guests were pleasantly pleased with my choice. So thanks guys for making me look good😉. The food was delicious...we had wings, empanadas and my fav was their watermelon salad 🍉. Bring It On Baby!! Sooooo good!😜 The garden is beautiful and the spicy blueberry margaritas i requested were a crowd pleaser! This place is a must go!
Excellent dining experience! Food was delicious, I had steak egg rolls, and salmon. They really surprised me with their Slovenian Pino Grigio equal white wine. It was superb. I also liked their bloody orange margarita as well as a Silka-rita.
Amazing food i think u should call for tge right menu. Great atmosphere
Terrible service. Had nothing I wantes to order. Slow waitresses. Didnt try to help at all. Barely knew the menu. Do not come here. 0 stars
Awesome experience every time!
Nice atmosphere!! They have a plant based menu as well, which is a plus! The drinks were good and the staff were fun!!
Probably one of the best brunch/diner spots I have ever visited in my life. I visited Philly for the weekend of 4/20 through 4/22 and within those two mornings that I spent there, I ate at this fine diner both times. The service was a bit slow both times around, but very friendly. The waiters/waitresses seemed to not have had much communication with one another as when Id ask for a certain side with another waiter/waitress Id end up having two of the same side brought to my table by accident. But again, the service was nothing short of friendly and very accommodating. The food was amazing. As starters my table had ordered the 1lb of buffalo wings and the house made granola. Both were excellent choices. The granola came along with honey infused greek yogurt and fresh fruit which added a delicious chewy texture. The buffalo wings were cooked to perfection. The exterior of the wing was rightfully crispy, accompanied by a soft yet tender inside. The sauce was just right in spice. It did not lack spice but it also did not burn your tongue in hotness. As for the entrees we ordered the chicken fried steak, chilaquiles, and the breakfast sandwich. All three dishes brought a blast of taste to our mouths. Each one was very different but very delicious. The chicken fried steak was easy to cut through and the gravy poured atop was to die for. The breading brought taste to the dish as well. The steak came along with scrambled eggs, crispy home fries, and a buttered biscuit. The breakfast sandwich exceeded any breakfast sandwich expectations. It wasnt to die for but it surely was tasty as well. The chilaquiles, pictured, was also very tasteful. The taste went hand in hand with the appearance of the dish. The price wasnt bad for the portion sizes. The ambiance, and vibe of the diner was quite unique. The inside had a sort of vintage ol school look going for it. The outside was enclosed by a very unique, lightly graffitied wall inside and out. A very summer-like feel to the environment. Overall, it is perfect spot to dine in and to get a jump to your day.
I am so sad by the closing of this Diner (restaurant ) the food here is amazingly delicious. The ambience is great, I truly love this place. I hope they will reopen this place one day soon.
Very cool eclectic vibe. Nice vegetarian options and variety of cocktails.
Love the egg rolls and the crab burger they got there..awesome place
The frozen Silk, Thai wings and the greens were the best thing off the menu..The fried chicken had way tooooooo much sage and had a funny taste, the spicy chicken sandwich was missing the spicy but extra sage was free since when is there a 20% gratuity automatically charged for 2 people ????
Waitress was nice, even though dont remember her name smh . Food and drink were good. Atmosphere was peaceful and extended grden section is sooo nicey lit. It even rained on us and we sti had. Good time sitting outside. Ddnt get wet due to the great tent covered provided. Qill def make a new spot to go to with the girls.
Good food, great drinks and awesome service.
The service was great, and the food was fantastic!
Visiting from New York had a great time
Really bad vibes, go literally anywhere else
