Sure, its a chain restaurant, but its quality. Located just beside The Rittenhouse Hotel & Spa. The main dining room is at the 2nd floor. First off the service was fantastic and very attentive/engaging staff members. The opening bread was excellent. The braised octopus appetizer was tender. The grilled branzino had a good crispy skin and a flavorful tangy sauce. The tagliatelle bolognese was such a classic Italian comfort food, except they use a slightly different pasta (slightly firmer than the typical pasta but somehow I liked it).By the way, great view if you can sit by the window, directly overlooking the Rittenhouse Square. The only downside? Slightly pricy (but not excessive and completely understandable given the prime location)
They serviced us at the window which had a great view of the Rittenhouse square park. The food was delicious. Glen who served us was awesome and made our experience fun and more enjoyable. We would definitely recommend Scarpetta and if you are lucky enough to have Glen as your server even better!
Excellent choice!! The pasta was fresh and in just-right portions. We all enjoyed our dinner, food, service and the view!!
Very stylish, with excellent takes on Italian food. The food was well prepared and looked attractive, and the bar makes some interesting drinks: the cucumber gimlet was surprisingly refreshing, but the avocado pina colada kind of fell flat--it looked and tasted like a green pina colada. Overall, a very classy place.
Scarpetta is located in the ever so posh Rittenhouse Hotel. They have a bar on the ground level that’s accessible both from the street and through the hotel. The main dining room is located on the 2nd floor over looking Rittenhouse Square. I’ve eaten here at least 8-10 times and have had drinks/snacks at the bar more times then I can count so obviously I like coming here. I almost wrote them off after my first 2 occasions dining there was a disaster and am happy I didn’t. I
Absolutely fabulous food and service served by friendly staff in a classy, relaxed setting. The only reason I have not given five stars is the prices are rather high. That said, each dish we had was absolutely DIVINE. Even the bread basket served, which included some delicious ham and cheese swirls and three different spreads, was extraordinary and a true highlight of the email. While menu options are limited, it seems one cannot go wrong. I had the burrata and tagliatelle bolognese as my main and was in heaven with every bite.If money were no object, I would be a regular here.
We celebrated a special occasion for dinner. The food was delicious and our request for a window table was met. The staff was helpful and did not rush us. My spouse and I love the wonderful spaghetti with red basil sauce. We each ordered that dish. But our nephew and his wife each ordered other entrees which they thought were outstanding. I recommend this restaurant for a special dinner.
Amazing place! Everything is just as you expect in the best restaurant in the city. Nice quite music, very attentive staff, great service, beautiful view from the window. You can fall in love with very first bite of this delicious food made of fresh from the farm ingredients... Best ofbthe best, for sure
Havent been to Scarpetta since the Thanksgiving dinner in 2017, and the food is still quite good, well most of it. The menu is very interesting with this touch of modern and inventive cucina Italiana, good ingredients and more than enough choices. The obviously overcooked pasta, very far from al-dente, and the equally overcooked seared scallops couldnt change the overall positive gastro experience. The ambiance is great with magnificent views to the Rittenhouse Square. Then was the service. A total and complete disaster. Very pushy gentleman who repeatedly tried to upsell everything, from wine to adding lobster/crabmeat to our fillet mignon. Then a big no-no for a fine dining establishment, trying to sell a bottle of Super Tuscan advertized as his personal favorite. The server wasnt Robert Parker neither James Suckling, his personal tastes in wines are of no authority neither interest for us. When we ordered an additional glass of Barbaresco it was poured in the same glass where our bottle of Nebbiolo was poured before! And finally a $104 bottle of Veneto, ordered originally and found to be unavailable, was included in our check atop of the Nebbiolo bottle served as a second choice. An honest mistake? This kind of mistake would have put $104 in the servers pockets, and not vice versa. Being very forgiving and very far from bloodthirsty diners, such uhm... servers shouldnt be allowed to work in Rittenhouse Square fine dining establishments.
We sat at 7:55 for our 8pm reservation, no one took our order until 8:46 pm. No one asked if we wanted more drinks. Server barely came over. Had to send on of our entrees back ($35) and no one asked if we wanted something else to replace the entree we had to send back. We had to take settings off other tables. We were charged $20 for a Paloma and our server didn’t even come over to drop our check. This is the first negative review I have written about a place. I have lived in philadelphia my whole life and would place this as my worst dining experience.
I went to Scarpetta for restaurant week and I couldnt have made a better choice! The food was amazing. My favorite dish was the ravioli stuffed with braised short ribs and bone marrow. And for dessert the coconut panna cotta! Everything was delicious. The service was great and everyone seemed friendly. If you sit by the window you get a nice view of Rittenhouse Square. Definitely want to go back soon!
Came here for restaurant week and ordered from the menu provided. I thought the portions would be smaller when looking at them online but trust me they are good sized portions especially if you have the amazing complimentary bread they provide you - you will be stuffed!Starters: creamy polenta. Almost like mushrooms on top of a very creamy mashed potatoes with warm gravy drizzle. Very good and light.Entree: Spaghetti. Not your basic spaghetti. It had a more elevated taste, the tomato sauce was very light and creamy. Pasta was cooked very well. Big portion.Dessert: Valrhona Chocolate Cake. Tasted more like a brownie. The caramel gelato complements the warm cake. Didnt blow my mind very basic but nice treat to end the meal.Drink: Virgin Mojito. Watered down, not as sweet or tangy as I like them. $8!! Way too expensive for water, club soda and a squeeze of lime.
Scarpetta Philadelphia was our third stop on our culinary mini moon on our way back from getting married in NC to our home in upstate NY.The hostess was delightful and prompt. She was also working in some seriously kickass lace-up open-toed black booties, but I didn’t get the chance to tell her that those shoes rocked! Can you please pass along the compliment? We wanted to maximize our visit, so we opted for the dinner tasting menu. It was definitely a great decision! The first course, a crudo duo, was sparkly and refreshing! The pickled red onion on the raw yellowtail was a fantastic addition to the fish. The second course was a beet salad and creamy polenta with mushrooms for the table. You can’t go wrong with a beet salad. So I’ll just gush over the creamy polenta. It was deliciously simple and complex all at the same time! I equate it to taking a Sunday afternoon nap, exactly what you wanted and didn’t know you needed! The third course was the pasta course. It was a course of classical paired with innovative. The tomato and basil was perfection. The short rib and bone marrow agnolotti could become an addiction if I lived closer!Fourth course for me was the stone bass. It was everything I hoped for - skin was crispy and fish was flakey. The romanesco and other accompaniments were resting comfortably in a sauce that exemplified cohesion of flavor. My husband had the duck, which was cooked perfectly. The butternut squash was a little underdone, but still yummy.Lastly came dessert and it was a great set of flavors to end the meal with. The cheesecake was a great combo of sweet and spice. My only issues were that we didn’t have a menu card with us during the tasting so we could refer back to what we had and what made it so great. The servers, often, rattled off what each dish consisted of so quickly, and robotically, that it was difficult to recall all the components of what we were tasting. Our server was very friendly and attentive but I don’t remember him ever saying his nam,e so I can’t compliment him directly.Overall, it was a delicious culinary experience and we will return on our next visit to Philadelphia. Cheers!
Something we like to do for fun is pick few random establishments and go on what we call our Culinary Adventure. Last night we happened to be in Philadelphia. After grabbing a few quick bites here and there we were ready for some desserts. A nice concierge pointed us in the direction of a newly opened Scarpetta. We walked in through the bar, which was furnished with beautiful leather couches and came up to a small but cozy waiting area. The hostesses, though busy at the moment, promptly acknowledged our presence. They even extended the courtesy of waiting while we happily snapped some quick selfies. When we settled into our seats we were given wonderful warm baskets of bread with assortment of spreads. The eggplant spread was amazing. After much deliberation over so many mouthwatering choices we finally settled on two desserts and a drink. We had Valrhona Chocolate Cake and Warm Banana Bread. Both choices were exquisite. Looking forward to coming back for a nice meal. Meanwhile wed like to thank the Scarpetta staff for wonderful food and impeccable service.
Probably one the most upscale and best italian restaurants in Philadelphia. Ordered duck and foie Gras ravioli. Was a delight. Also ordered Il bruciato wine. Top class! Its on the pricier side but if you have a special occasion or impress someone in one of the best parts of the city, you wont go wrong.
Good drinks at the bar.
Not only was the food delicious, our server was a delight (shout out to Glenn!!).
I had the pleasure of dining here with two friends recently. The location is quite lovely, especially with Christmas lights still sparkling in the trees right across from the restaurant. The restaurant itself was superb. The food was excellent and the waiter listened to our food allergies and really paid attention. He was really quite excellent at his job. We had a bit of trouble with a fellow sitting at the next table who objected to our academic conversation. It was nothing serious, he made a passive aggressive comment to my dinner mates when he left but the maitre came right over, asked what happened apologized profusely (we were really fine with it and made sure he knew that) and for our trouble he comped part of our meal. it was so gracious, unexpected, and lovely. I will be recommending this restaurant in the future and when next i visit my friends in Philly, I will certainly return. The service alone is outstanding. I cannot recommend it highly enough.
Super food and top notch service. I had the best salad and duck breast. Both were excellent. The atmosphere was on the darker side and certainly the background was quit enough to hear all the conversation. Its located in the upscale Rittenhouse Hotel, right on the Rittenhouse Square on the heart of center city.
AWFUL!!! We were party of 7. Our bill was over $800.00!! (plus tax and gratuity) We had expected MUCH better. Menu selections were inferior. We had ordered price fixed ($68) Thanksgiving meal. Can you believe that the stuffing was a first course selection while the turkey was third course selection??? Each course food was served COLD!! The entire meal was a major disappointment. Will never return nor recommend this place. AND we are NOT TOURISTS!!!
This restaurant is inside the Rittenhouse Hotel. I had been to LaCroix at the Rittenhouse but not this one and I was equally impressed. I had an arugula salad and the homemade spaghetti. The salad was fresh with delicious figs and feta. The spaghetti melted in my mouth and the sauce was just the right amount of spicy. My son had the veal tenderloin and it was phenomenal. Good wine choices. Very attentive service. The chocolate cake was to die for. We will definitely go again. Nice to get away from the trendy and loud restaurants on the other side of Rittenhouse.
Professional, high quality, attention to detail, service there but not obtuse, food fit for a king (or Queen). My entire party enjoyed our dinner with you. The pasta was the highlight. Desserts. We shared together to sample all. Banana bread was the winner!
What an absolutely fantastic find right in the middle of Rittenhouse Square Park with its views of the park and great shopping all around it... but the delicious food and wonderful service are the real stars of this gem!! Thank you for a great dining experience!
Restaurant Week Dining. Went with four colleagues and each had a different first and third course. All of us had the branzino as the main. The food was very, very good. The waitstaff extremely professional. Might now have my anniversary dinner here!
The spagetthi is literally the best Ive ever had.
The food was amazing. And the atmosphere is classy. Service was great. But it was really really loud. My wife and I could barely talk to each other it was so loud. We probably wont go back because of the volume.
Hidden Gem in Philadelphia! The service from the hostess, to the waiter, to the manager, to the master Chef Mike, and the group in the kitchen was outstanding!. I live in Philadelphia and have been to all the surrounding restaurants on rittenhouse park and this one is my favorite! Best views of the park no doubt! They even brought me out a special birthday ice cream and candle to celebrate! Pork Chops and pasta were phenomenal + grilled octopus. Master chef Mike and staff are so gifted and will take care of you.I highly recommend you try this place out. I will definitely be back! Thank you!
I just want to say thanks to the staff here! Lost/left my phone there last night and they helped me track it to another place around the corner, even calling a friend there to let me in to get it back in hand immediately. So awesome. Food was also amazing. Thanks 🙏🏼
My girl and I were served by ashley and the bus boy Edwin both were awesome. Geo the manager there is also great answered all of our questions and really made us feel like family between the three I dont think service could have been better. I swear I almost busted a nut when I ate the first pumpkin squash ravioli I never had anything like it, it reminded me of the scene from willy Wonka where they eat the pill and could taste different food the flavors changed as you ate it the desserts were awesome. Please tip the waitress & the bus boy theyre always getting stiffed!!!
Chill atmosphere, delicious food, vegan options, great drinks, and great service!! My waiter was Chris and he was so accommodating. I just want to say thank you 😊
Had our engagement party here. Staff was more than accommodating. WE did a family style dinner table for a group of 34. Everything was so good and everyone from out of town found their new favorite Philly Italian restaurant.
Service was phenomenal. Food was excellent. This restaurant will be added to my rotation. 5 star is well deserved.
My first time there I was impressed. I was seated along with my friend on 2nd floor with a fabulous view. Attentive, handsome staff. Food portions were just right and delicious. I will definitely come again.
Great food and the best service. Out waiter was amazing. Best customer service I think Ive ever had at a restaurant.
Wonderful cocktails, just when you thought youd heard them all, they take them out another door. Menu is mouth watering
This is our favorite go to place in the city for a special occasion. I have never had a meal that wasnt fabulous!
It was a Lovely experience celebrating my sons 24th Birthday. I was also impressed that the meal I had was not what I was expecting and they took it off the bill my husband and will be back. Lovely atmosphere. Service wonderful.
First off. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday. He sucks, so its always hard to find a place he enjoys. He also doesnt eat raw fish. We did the tasting menu, and he loved it. I loved it food was amazing. BUT that wasnt even the best part, the service was outstanding. Our waiter Christopher was the greatest guy ever. If I had more money I wouldve given him all of it as a tip. Not only was he kind, and very knowledgeable about the food, but he was a genuinely good person. Aside from my amazing service he had a table of 22 year old females behind me. After their dinner some drunk frat dude approached them and offered them shots at his table of other drunk bros. The girls were very skeptical. And he made sure they felt comfortable being approached, and told them to make sure they say something if they were disrespected. He was just a good guy. If you give holiday bonuses give all of it to him. ALSO the busboys literally grabbed every utensil and plate as soon as we were done using them. I was there on Thursday November 1st at 7-9pm so thank the whole staff. I never felt like Ive had such great service, but just all around great humanity. The atmosphere was amazing too. Ill be coming back, and doing private events there in the near future. Totally asking for Christopher again too. Thank you!
Scarpetta offers a distinctly bold menu including signature handmade in house pasta, raw and cooked seafood, various meat choices, and vegetarian or vegan options. High quality and local seasonal ingredients are used to execute the dishes with superb attention to detail and originality. The staff is professional, knowledgeable, and accommodating due to the required training program held at other locations prior to opening. The training program aims to ensure full understanding of the Scarpetta culture, menu awareness and tasting, in addition to how ingredients are selected. Scarpetta’s atmosphere is welcoming, energizing, and unique creating a striking entrance into the refined neighborhood.
Disappointed with my 1st visit, arrived at the bar for Happy Hour. Female bartenders had somewhat of a snooty attitude. We were given menus with no explanation as to what specials were being offered. We wanted to start with drinks. I did not know that wine & specialty cocktails were 50% off. I ordered a cosmo martini. The bartender asked what kind of vodka, I stated whatever house vodka is would be fine. My glass was not even filled and I received the bill and I was charged $18.70!!! She gave me a $1.00 back from a $20! Wow I travel the world & have never paid $19.00 for a Partially filled Martini glass. Still upset about this experience & will never return!
Amazing selection of breads that come in the bread basket. Wonderful cheery staff and great selection of food. A small menu not to confuse one with a large number of food items, but carefully selected to please all.
Had a great dinner date... very tasty food... Glenn, our waiter, was fabulous!!
Excellent service and amazing food. All the pastas are phenomenal and a must have. Also you get a beautiful view of rittenhouse park as you eat.
Favorite Restaurant!! My server Alex was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu and had great wine suggestions that paired perfectly with out meals. Highly recommend it!
Went for restaurant week. Picturesque view of Rittenhouse square. Very good homemade Italian food, and did I mention they inlcude Stromboli in the free bread basket to begin!
The service downstairs at the bar (2/10/18) was magnificent. The ladies handled my unbelievably difficult grandmother with poise and grace. The food was excellent as well.
Excellent upscale location. Beautiful decor. Service is top notch. Food was excellent.
I booked a table for guests last night. The hostess confirmed the date, time, phone number and name for me. When our guests arrived they were told no reservation was made and they did not have a table available. This is beyond disappointed especially when sending special guests who traveled from out of town for a special night out. I cannot trust Scarpetta again for business guests.
Amazing food, best service. Best pasta in the city. Highly recommend.
The food was amazing as was the staff...for a table of t we had at least 4 helping is plus 2 more when the main course came. Great space overlooking the square as well.
Very elegant small bar. Great service from an amazing bartender drinks and food were 5 star.
The food was great and the service was exceptional. Our server, Fiath was friendly and attentive. Definitely would recommend you trying
Food was excellent, nice bar, nice view looking down on Rittenhouse Square.
Scarpetta is without a doubt a classy restaurant establishment in a beautiful location in Rittenhouse Square. The location is great and the dining area itself is gorgeous.I was not a huge fan of the food itself. It seemed to be more focused on fancy presentation than actually delectable flavors. I found the tuna susci to be somewhat bland and lacking in flavor. I will say - I had a bite of my friends crispy pork belly and was impressed with the flavor and texture of that dish. I had a plate of the cavatelli after that and was not impressed. The lamb was certainly tender and flavorful but the goat cheese seemed muddled and the pasta was bland. The service itself was a bit frustrating at times. Our waiter kept us waiting for nearly half an hour when trying to get our check to leave.Overall, it was a fun place to check out but when I am paying for a meal at these prices my expectations for service and flavor are higher than Scarpetta delivered.
Goodbye S&W and hello Scapettas. We had reservations; our jackets were checked, and were seated straight away. The vibe was urban chic, ambiance was well received and our seating area was tastefully light, noise was a tad loud, but tolerable. The food was delicious, I had the Brussels sprouts and Bolognese, my wife had the duck. Everything was timely and well prepared. Our wait staff was on top of everything. What can I say, Ill be back.
My boyfriend took me and his mother to dinner for his mothers birthday and the food was absolutely delicious
Extremely good high-end Italian dining
The best Italian restaurant in Philly.
The food was exceptional. So was the service. Cant wait to come back.
Great atmosphere and food. A big thank you to bartender Ashley not only for making every time we go there great but for hold my wifes bag she left behind.
The service was great and the food was even better. I would eat there again definitely!
Delicious food, and great service. The managers are sure to make every experience feel special
Fantastic food and fantastic service! My fiance and I celebrated our 1 yr anniversary today in which my fiance purposed to me earlier today and we went to dine afterwards at Scarpetta. They treated us with so much love and served us complimentary champayne and desert! They wanted to be part of our new found happiness and it made the evening that much more special! They were all amazing and it was an evening I will never forget. Definitely looking forward to coming back very soon!
Came here for restaurant week a while back. Very delicious.
Love it! The food is amazing and the service by Drew Carballo/team is superb!
Excellent service and food. Very nice fine dining experience.
Great atmosphere, food came quickly was service was great!!! Alex was our server and he was awesome, our first time there and we cant wait to go back!!!
Food to die for and the service is second to none. I highly recommend.
My drink was tasty and potent! Ive only been for happy hour and definitely recommend.
Great food and wine selection. I had a 3 course meal and each course was excellent.
Awful. This place used to be Smith & Wollensky, too bad that restaurant closed making space available to Scarpetta because this prime location deserves a better tenant. Diners deserve a better restaurant in this location.
Dishes were great. Very noisy on weekends. About $80 - $90 per person. $25 for valet parking at Hotel.
Went for drinks at the bar. Bar area had two bad smells, one was a bleach type odor from the glasses being washed and the other was strong seafood smell from what other patrons were eating. Not pleasant time smelling those two odors. And drinks were $14 each. Wont be going back.
Excellent food and service. Cozy atmosphere great for romantic dinner and special occasions
We got to the restaurant at 8:30 and had a 9pm reservation. We finally got seated for our reservation at almost 10pm! We kept being told that they were waiting for 2 tables to pay and that is why we waited so long. When we were being seated there were many open tables and were told by the hostess that they were sorry for the wait and that they were going to make up for it and would be worth the wait. The service staff was nice. The rest of the experience just got worse. We finally were able to get our food order in around 10:30pm. Our apps were good but the streaks my friend and I both ordered came out over cooked and not hot. At this point it is 11:20 and I just want out of this place. Clearly the chefs felt the same way. They took one of the steaks off the bill but charged us for the other one. At this point we just want to leave but they insisted on sending us dessert. Why not just take an app or two off of our bill and let us leave since it is midnight at this point?!?! This is how you make it worth the 45 minute waitfor our table? Almost forgot that we wanted to order a bottle of champagne when we got there and they only had 1 bottle on the menu. Who only has one bottle of sparkling on the menu?!?! Wasnt even champagne!!!!Luckily I live in NYC and love Scarpetta there. The Philly sister has a lot of work to even try and catch up to its great sister in NYC.
Nice location and decent food, nothing mind blowing. The place is pretty noisy but solid Italian option in Rittenhouse Square
Nice place, nice view of the park, excellent service. Good food yummm
Nice view if you get a table by the window. Service last night was bad, they kept apologizing for wait between courses. Food was mediocre, no where near warranting the $$$. I frequently check out our new restaurants in Philadelphia. Would not recommend this one.
The food was excellent but Service was lacking. No bread for an hour and slow service on a busy Saturday night. We weren’t told they were out of an entrée until we ordered it. Vegetables with the entrée were only slightly warmed.
Food is not bad but it seems pricey for the quality and quantity
Love the food here. The foie gras ravioli and pork belly are two of my favorites.
Excellent food and service!
Excellent meal. Would recommend the tartaglia bolognese & the pannacotta
Great for drinks after dinner or cocktail hour anytime.
Excellent service and great food and wine selection
Good food, nice dining room, very good service
Excellent service Interesting food
OMG the food here is delciousssss, me and my fiance came here for the first time and the experience was outstanding, the service was great and the food was even better, i you ask me that if i got the whole 9 yards, i would say definitely. It costed me some serious coin, but it was DEFINITELY worth it. What else can you expect from fine dining in such a marvelous area and great views?
Simply amazing experience. Staff were polite and happy to serve.
