Ive hired A-K Custom Interiors twice now, most recently for a total home renovation project. Kevin is by far the most professional contractor Ive worked with, and his skill, artistry and craftsmanship is absolutely unsurpassed. In fact, the custom cabinetry and library he built for my most recent project was the lynchpin of the overall design and added significantly to the resale value. Ive received more complements regarding his work than of any other design element. Needless to say, Kevin has my highest recommendation, and I will definitely use him again for future projects.

Kevin and his crew were A+++ to deal with. From my initial email to him, to install and everything in between AKCustom was an absolute pleasure to deal with. Kevin even went so far as to fabricate 2 more shelves for us after the fact....and had them dropped off at our home! This guy is the real deal and if you are thinking about updating your home Kevin and AKCustom is your go to! Thanks Kevin and guys-hopefully our paths meet again

I am an architect and I hired Kevin to do work at my own home. Working with Kevin was very difficult as much of the work needed major corrections and I had so much trouble getting a response from him. He rebuilt some items but much of it will always be defective. Im so disappointed and to make matters worse Kevin put my photography on his website without my consent and has refused to take it down after repeated requests. Edit: Kevin, thank you for your response. I was waiting to pay you in full until the job was complete but it was never completed. Every time I received an invoice I called you to ask you to complete the work and I would gladly pay you but I never received a response. I had to bring someone else in to complete the work. Can you be more specific about how I was difficult? I did ask you to rebuild some pieces that were angular when they should have been straight. I was frankly surprised that you would bring them in to install like that in the first place. Yes the project was from 7 years ago; Im leaving a public review now because I would like you to please remove my photography from your website as you have no approval to use it.

Highly Recommend! Kevin renovated a closet for us in our 100+ year old house. The job involved demolition of the old closet, and the design, fabrication and installation of the new. We could not be happier with the result!! Its clear when working with him that he is a perfectionist. He takes his time to get everything done right. He also installed floating shelves in our kitchen and was able to match the wood of our existing cabinets perfectly! And he built and installed a bannister for us in the attic. He can do ANYTHING! A bonus is that hes such a pleasure to work with, and truly wants to make his clients happy.

Kevin has worked on a few big projects for us including a house weve since sold, and most recently within our new home. In both homes he designed and built custom home office built-in shelves and cabinets that really brought the rooms to life and took them from useless to one of the most utilized and enjoyed rooms within the house! He also designed and installed true wainscoting throughout much of the first floor and up the main staircase of our old house. Each project that Kevin took on was completed on time, on budget, and at a quality level that consistently surpassed our very high expectations! Beyond the quality of his work, which is what makes Kevin and team best of breed, is the manner in which they carry out the project work, carefully listening to client feedback, catering to even the smallest request, and always maintaining a friendly but professional demeanor. It was such a pleasure working with Kevin / A-K Custom Interiors and I would highly recommend them for your next project!

I am not here to rub Kevin’s business in the dirt, I am merely here to state the facts of our not-so-great experience working with AK Custom.I own an interior design company with my partner and we reached out to Kevin to help us implement a custom built-in shelving unit for one of our clients. He was very reasonably priced, responsive, professional, and seemed like an all-around nice family man. (I don’t doubt that he is). In my business we deal with scheduling issues and delays on a daily basis. So when Kevin needed to reschedule the initial install date, I didn’t think much of it. Then the install began and the job was taking a little longer than expected. When I visited the job site during the install, Kevin pointed out a few issues he was having; like a few bent boards and a scratch. Nothing major and I wasn’t too worried.After the job was complete; we went over to our clients house to take a look and were flabbergasted at the quality of the “finished job”. It was crooked, gapping, broken, bent, drawers didn’t work properly, etc etc. I gave Kevin the benefit of the doubt since this was a 100+ year old home and they can often times be very sloped, crooked, etc.I took photos and created a list of items that needed to be fixed; some major, but many of them pretty minor. When I sent him the list, he responded initially and said he would get back to me to schedule a day to come fix the issues. That was the last I heard from him. I emailed probably 10-15 times asking/pleading him to respond in some capacity. Nothing. Not even a courtesy email to say “I’m sorry I can’t finish the job”.Needless to say we are super disappointed in how this job ended up. We resorted to hiring a new carpenter to come and fix/finish the issues. We cannot recommend Ak customs craftsmanship or finished product to anyone

Kevin truly earns the name custom. We had this awkward corner with weird angles and he created a beautiful built-in with shelving for the space. The walls are uneven, but he took the time to go back and forth to get every inch lined up perfectly. Above all, he is such a genuinely kind person and is so pleasant to work with. In the end, the job left me feeling like paying him MORE than quoted! I will be hiring him for as many jobs as he will accept for us in the future.Update: we had some flooding in the basement kitchen the day Kevin arrived for the other work and he nonchalantly agreed to replace all of the baseboard trim down there for such a low price on that same day! He saved us and is the best!

The only thing worse than owner Kevin McCarthy’s craftsmanship is his followthrough and communication. I cannot recommend A-K to anyone and would go as far to actively dissuade anyone from using them.My wife and I worked with A-K Custom to design and install a set of cabinets for our living room, along with ripping out a closet in a bedroom to replace with custom shelving and drawers for collectible comic book storage.Worried about the comic book storage, I asked Kevin if he had done custom drawers for comics before -- he assured me that he had.Kevin and his team designed the comic book drawers and installed them. However, an immediate problem was noticed -- the soft-closing drawers would not actually stay closed. A week later Kevin had to come out to fix them.The issues continued. Once loaded with weight, it was found that the drawers would not close. Again, after multiple back and forths over email, and Kevin emailing to reschedule twice, he came out to install drawers to handle the heavier weight.Unfortunately the issue persisted. With more weight the bottom of the shelves separated. Comics were now falling through the drawers and onto the ground. The drawers could not hold a box of tissues, let alone the weight of the comics.Nearly six months later, the issue is still not resolved. I’ve emailed Kevin once every 2-3 weeks about the issue. Each time he promises a resolution, that he’ll fix the problem, create heavier drawers, etc. But each time he’s made such a promise, he drops off the face of the earth. He doesn’t respond to emails/calls. And when he does make an actual commitment to come out to the house and resolve the matter, he reschedules.So far working with Kevin he has either rescheduled or no-showed a total of five times. Again, I stress that the issue with our custom drawers, at the time of this writing, has still not been resolved.I cannot, in good conscience, recommend A-K Custom Interiors. Even if their rates and pricing are competitive, it’s simply not worth the hassle working with Kevin and his lack of communication. You’ll always be left on the hook, not knowing what’s going on, and there will be no follow through.And while A-K’s rates may be competitive, they are actually far more expensive in the long run, due to increased mental headspace/stress of issues not being resolved, unable to get a hold of Kevin, or get him out to your home to resolve the issues his shoddy workmanship has created. Truly, take your money elsewhere.The only redeeming quality of A-K Custom Interiors is that Kevin genuinely does seem to be a good person with well-meaning intentions. It’s likely that he’s simply overworked and does not have a member of his team that can properly handle scheduling, logistics, and all the day-to-day tasks required to run a business. If Kevin took active steps to delegate these tasks he would likely be able to produce higher quality work that is done on time, with better communication, and less back and forth. But until that day happens I would strongly advise you look elsewhere for your custom interior needs.

We are extremely happy with the built-in bookcase that Kevin and his employee Ruben built for our living room. Kevin did a great job of tying it in to our existing crown and baseboard molding so that it truly looks like it has always been part of the house. He also worked around an existing power outlet and drilled holes in the shelving to accommodate electrical cords. He was able to complete the job after spending only about 5 hours at our house. Our living room was so clean at the end of the project (not one speck of dust anywhere) that it was impossible to tell that they had even been in our house. On top of such high quality workmanship, Kevin is a very nice person. I would definitely recommend him for any custom cabinet needs!

Kevin is amazing! He helped me create a vision for a dry bar and it came out better than my expectation! He and his crew were punctual, respectful of my home, and overall very talented. I highly recommend him!

Kevin is so talented. He has made us a number of beautiful custom pieces and now transformed our kitchen. We couldnt be happier. Highly recommend and we will be using him fo additional projects.
