My wife and i went here today. We were here for only the second time. The first time we had a female wait on us and she was very pleasant and helped answer any questions we had. Well, this second time we had some guy who looked like a hipster and not only was he rude and arrogant, but we had already dropped $159 and were still shopping and for no reason he asked us to leave the store. His reason? He said we’re only allowed 10 customers at a time. Point is, he was very rude about it. While at the counter he continued to be rude and arrogant and after i told him we planned to spend more money here he got even more arrogant and kept flapping his tongue. Ive never been kicked out of a record store for spending money before. Ill never step into this place ever again. This guy is ruining this business for this poor lady as i believe its her store. I wouldnt recommend this place to anyone.

Without a doubt, this is not only one of the best record stores around, but just one of the best stores period. There is always a friendly face and a knowledgeable source when I go into this store. No matter the genre of music, hip-hop, jazz, classical, you name it, the guys know there stuff. Ive been to several record stores in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area and none compare to Long in the Tooth!!

Not to disparage any other record store in Philly, but Long In the Tooth is the best for my sensibilities. Youve got everything that makes a great record shop. Huge used section? Check. New records across multiple genres? Check. A robust soundtrack section? Check. Drool-worthy wall wax? Check. Extremely fair prices for both trade-in and retail? Check. Super-friendly, knowledgeable and approachable employees? Check. Every single time I go to this spot I end up in a long conversation about music with the owner. Hes a rad guy.TL:DR - I have been digging through crates all over this city for 30 years and I can honestly say that LITT is the best.

I have always had a pleasant and beneficial time in this small independent family owned & operated used rock music (plus) store! Good business skills evidenced by its having consistently been open per the published hours, in business since 2006 – in this same location, and because the owner is occasionally open to negotiating a buy/sell when he is not terribly busy, right at the counter. Or such is my observation. :–)

Amazing selection of vintage books with both novel and mass-appealing titles, and a great selection of vintage records. Staff checked with me if they wanted to hold my books while I kept looking, and later checked with me to ensure I knew the price of the one book I chose as it was more pricey. One of the best record stores Ive seen with a ton of interesting and unique items. One of the best places in Philly!!

The store was nice, but they had most of the used vinyl sitting about an inch too high. I could see them, but it took some effort. The milk crates they had for step ladders didnt work for me. (I recently had surgery. Unsecured steps are my Kryptonite right now.) After a few minutes, and no doubt spurred by repeated collisions with his crates, the owner came over to me. He forced to explain why I didnt want to use a crate, then lectured me about the proper way to flip through a box. He even said that I was damaging the covers and that I could be putting him out of business. Im not coming back.

My favorite record shoppe in the city. With fair record pricing(typically the average discogs price). Coming from someone whos worked in a record store before the two main people that run the shoppe are always kind and ready to talk about what youre looking for(just KNOW what youre looking for, dont give some vague description). Anyday you go youre bound to find at least one record either on the wall or on in the new arrivals bin youve been looking for. And its a plus the owner is always ready to talk Phillies baseball. Highly recommend.

I was profiled upon entering the store by the owner. He stared at me the entire time I was shopping, complaining whenever I wasn’t shopping the way he wanted me to and did not hesitate to berate me for misplacing a record. I apologized, and he was still not satisfied and continued to berate me, telling me that β€œhe knew something was wrong with me” as soon as I entered. I have been a repeat customer and was shocked that I was still treated like a punk, despite making numerous purchases there. On top of this, I have had records skip that I purchased here. But more importantly, I have never been made to feel more uncomfortable while shopping for records. I would not reccomend supporting this man’s business.

I dont care how good your pricing is, if your customer service isnt in point then youre not doing it right. Ive had good experiences with the owner and horrible ones with his staff. With the availability of records these days, you need to drop the elitist attitudes and respect your customers. They put money in the till, not snarky remarks or musical geekdom.

Most of the staff is OK, but one guy that works there is very much of an a-hole. He berated me for the way I flipped through the records, one handed at the top center. He told me I had to use both hands, which is slower, and actually is harder on the cardboard jacket because the LP isnt supporting the weight. I ignored this advice and he threatened to call the cops if I did not leave. I think he was trying to show off his powerful authority for some ladies. If he was trying to show off his desperate wankishness, he succeeded.

Been collecting for decades, so ive been to a lot of stores. This place was absolutely dead when i came in, and i quickly found out why. The selection is poorly organized and the prices are a joke. But the major problem is the staff here is absolutely terrible, like other reviews have mentioned. Just asked a simple question and I received a very rude and snobby attitude. The people working here seem to just have no understanding how to run a shop or even have any communication skills. Overall theres just a very negative vibe which i understand because this store is failing badly and will be out of business soon. Absolute trash.

In my experience, Long in the Tooth has a way better selection of metal than other record shops. I havent done much browsing in the vinyl section yet since I just recently started collecting those, but their CD selection in terms of the grindcore, stoner metal, etc subgenres was pretty great. I had a long list of artists to look for and I found about 80% of them. And ignore the crybabies being upset about being asked to hold records properly.
