The friendliest staff in the business! I went in to purchase a Hobie Pro Angler 12 and they asked me if I wanted to take it for a test drive first. So of course I said yes! They took it out to their swimming pool in back and showed me all the features and let me peddle around as long as I wanted. The customer service was seriously the best.I ended up buying my Hobie PA12 kayak in dune and love it!!!! Ill be back. Thanks guys.
10/10 would recommend. Recently completed my Open Water Dive certification with Will at Tackle Shack. From day 1, Will guided me with years of expertise to tailor gear, techniques and planning considerations for future diving adventures. As a first time diver, this settled any nerves about my confidence in hitting the water. Their weekday course from 6pm-9:30pm and a final 4 dives on the weekend, allowed for easy attendance for a working individual. The course is methodical and designed with a “crawl, walk, run” concept, to ease into required techniques and skills. Hands down worth every penny for someone interested in beginning their dive adventures!
I dropped off my regulator set up to see if it could get serviced and an older gentleman immediately said that they couldnt service that old of a regulator and kind of pressured me to buy a whole brand new setup. my regulator was old, but I had used it for years with no issues. So then a younger guy said that he will do some research and let me know if it could get serviced. he gave me a receipt with a service charge of $78 without parts and some change and said he would give me a call for a quote. I never got a call and had to call them and a very rude man answered and told me that it was all serviced with new parts and everything and ready to be picked up. they charged me $200 (i did not see a $78 service charge, instead it was around $105) for a very old regulator and when I expressed my frustration, the guy on the phone said well what do you want me to do? take it apart and give it back? I have no clue who talked to you. I do not recommend taking your gear to get serviced here. If you do, make sure to be EXTRA CLEAR on what you would like to be done, and dont be surprised if you experience a rude telephone call.
I love this dive shop. They have everything for scuba diving gear and wet suits with different mm for neoprene, spearfishing gear and parts, pole spears with parts, freediving, to kayaks and everything in between and even parts and pieces to your gear. I am so happy a dive shop around here is stocked up because a lot of others are not.
These guys know their stuff. Great service. I had a dive computer and transmitter that needed setting up and batteries replaced as well as a leaking BC. 30 min and I was out the door. Will be going back for all my diving needs!
Propper salt! Take a beach chair and meet the staff. 5* equates to zero. 100% kool with a K!
Such a wonderland of fun! They have the best selection of new and used Hobie pedal kayaks and boards and the best staff. For our latest Hobie purchase, Jimmy hooked us up with a beautiful Hobie Mirage Eclipse and was so helpful to us throughout the purchase. He even delivered my board after a long day at work and helped us set it up in the dark. We didnt have cash on hand to tip you Jimmy, but you so deserved it and we will catch up with you at the store soon. Thanks again!!
I was shopping for a triathlon wet suit and Scott and Dominic were out of this world! This was my first wet suit purchase, and I needed all the help I could get. These dudes went out of their way to help me and educate me on wet suits. I learned a lot and bought the exact wet suit that I wanted. Thanks guys! I highly recommend Tackle Shack!
The staffs’ knowledge and unbelievable service is a VERY RARE find nowadays as internet shopping and big box stores have taken over. Such a pleasant and amazing experience— with top notch selection and more than fair prices to boot!Bought a used sail boat and some accessories, Andy was great and extremely helpful, couldn’t have made this happen without him! I’ll be back!
Good selection and the staff is always friendly and informed.
Best selection of so much for canoeing, kayaking, fishing etc. Richard knows his stuff.
Helped fix my BC right on the spot! Saved the weekend dive! Thanks
Great shop for all your scuba and kayaking needs!
Very cool knowledgeable staff, made buying quality snorkel gear for my noob girlfriend a breeze. 10/10 will be back and recommend. Prices are exceptionally reasonable as well. Great mask and snorkel selection as well.
Great staff and selection. Jimmy found every piece I needed from large to little obscure parts.
Horrible customer service. Made a purchase online... then after 3 days Andy emailed me (in a demanding and rude manner) that I have to pay more for the product... why??? Why your website list the price like that then? Also he said the color that I order is not available!!! Really? Why your website shows that as available? Why did you waste my time and ruined my holiday fishing trip? And.... no apology? Hobie needs to rethink chosing dealers... Best hobie products being sold by unprofessional dealers.
Delivered HobieCats here. Bunch of fun guys. Looked to be a KILLER selection. ALOT stuffed into this store.
Extremely friendly and helpful staff!!! If you want to recreate in the water...which most people in Florida do...then you need to get on down to Tackle Shack. Whether you want to go kayaking, sailing, paddle boarding, or scuba diving they have it all. I just bought my Hobie Mirage Oasis form here and I couldnt be happier with the service I received! 5*s all day!
Expert advice and professional equipment.
This kayak and scuba store has everything you could EVER NEED..Employees are very knowledgeable and accommodating..they sell the well known Hobie brand water sport equipment..kayaks,boards etcAsk for RICHARD HES FANTASTIC!
The Staff is great helped me right along with the Warranty on my Kayak replaced hull for a shipping charge and back on water Thanks Tackle Shack staff.
Nice selection of boards and kayaks.Frienfly and knowledgeable staff
Friendly staff great atmosphere, very helpful, lots of nice equipment for sale. Got my PCP airtank filled no problem, will be back and I highly recommend this place.
Great folks own and run this place.
Good selection of dinghy sailing equipment.
The Tackle Shack is my kinda place. Jimmy and Andy are into all sorts of sports and are very knowledgeable guys. Dom is an experienced diver and Richard knows kayaks and sailboats. Whatever you need, these guys either have it or know where to find it. And oh, you want to go on a dive trip? Talk to Jimmy and you’ll be out there.
Great group of guys to work with. Really laid back purchasing atmosphere and good selection of kayaks. Were a little short on paddle boards but the ones they had were high quality.
I purchased my beautiful new Sunfish sailboat here in 2015 where I received great personal service, before the sale and after. Ive been a customer since, purchasing my necessary equipment and supplies as they have most everything. I had an on the water collision 3 weeks ago resulting in necessary fiberglass repairs and a repaint. My boat looks as beautiful now as the day I bought it, maybe better. Ive had great service with smiles every time I walk-in the door. Thank you, Tackle Shack, youre the best.
Amazing selection of scuba diving and outdoor equipment. Doesnt look like much from the street, but go through the door and youll die with envy. Could easily spend hours going through the very broad selection. Jimmy, the owner, was extremely helpful, gave great advice without being pushy and definitely knew his stuff. What an experience! Will (have to) be back!
Overpriced. Not organized. Not a good selection.
Great place to buy a yak. Very helpful. They know their line of kayaks. Richard is more than salty, hes the best.
Got certified here 40 years ago!!!
Longest running dive shop in the area. They always provide good fills and are willing match online pricing!
A big thank you to this shop today. I called today because my usual dive shop was closed for the holiday, and they said they were about to close up early but asked where I was coming from. I was still about 30 minutes away and they stayed open for me so I could get a tank filled last minute so I could dive tomorrow. When I got there they weren’t rushing me in and out, and they also helped answer some questions I had regarding spearfishing gear. Thank you Tackle Shack for going above and beyond!
I just got open water certified by Tom and he’s fantastic. He takes the time to make sure you’re comfortable and no question is stupid. Top notch. Also he’s really funny! Great experience with them. I plan on returning to do trips with him and fill my tanks there.
Shopping for a kayak a d because of the great service I will be buying here when im ready
Cool guys I get CO2 filled from them for a great price. Come for the good service stay to stare at the saltwater aquarium.
Great instruction,
Richard was a great help and very informative. I highly recommend him if you are in the market for a kayak. I ended up buying 2 Hobie Mirage Passports. Very happy with my purchase.
I had such a great experience getting my first certification for diving that I will be coming back to this place for my next one as well. The dive shop and pool are nice but what sealed the deal for me was Tom Matthes. He is a kind, knowledgeable, compassionate instructor. Everyone should have someone like him to feel comfortable diving! Thanks Tom!!
Been there as long as I can remember, looking at kayaks twice now. Spent an hour or so with Richard a month ago and another hour or so today. Never once felt like he was tired of us. He was great to deal with, very knowledgeable. I wouldnt have gone anywhere else. Thank you Richard we will definitely enjoy our new toys.
The people make this place special. Friendly and knowledgeable staff
Nicest people and great products. Thier knowledge and passion for water sports was inspiring. They offer an array of outings I encourage you to ask about. Will definitely return soon.
Richard was an excellent salesperson to deal with! Friendly, gave me great advise, and added some extras to my Hobie Revolution I purchased. I was deliberating about a Hobie cart, and he allowed me to borrow one for a couple days without charge! His boss, however, didnt seem like the most friendliest guy. Dont get me wrong, he wasnt utterly rude or anything; he just didnt smile or talk much when I was around. In the end, I had an amazing experience here. Will definitely do business here again.
These guys know their stuff, and are extremely friendly. Highly recommend this shop
My husband got a quote for 2 regulator check and overhaul from Tackle Shack. The quote was for $ 224 that he had to pay up front. When he picked up the regulators he had to pay another $ 225 for the labor (that was not quoted before the overhaul).NOT a good business! Get your quotes straight before you do the work!Paying $450 for overhauling 2 used regulators. WOW!!!!Advise to customers or anyone doing business with Tackle Shack:GET YOUR QUOTES IN WRITING!!!Better yet: GO SOMEWHERE ELSE FOR YOUR BUSINESS AND SAVE MONEY!!!A very dissatisfied disappointed customer that will NEVER return.I did not want to give you the ONE STAR but without it will not let me post this.
Love this dive shop. Best service around here with a great selection and knowledgable staff. Havent dealt with the other side of this building too much where they stock other water sports equipment and supplies.
Called today to ask and had a chance to speak with Mr.Jimmy, he was able to help me out, answer my questions and point me in a solid direction
Great product.
Normally good. Mgr in today not helpful and made us feel unwanted. Next time we’ll purchase online.
Purchased 2 Kayaks and a Trailer. 2016 Hobie Outback and 2016 Pro Angler 14. Excellent customer service and very understanding. I cant wait to get them in the water. Rich and Jimmy both took great care of me. Even showed me some salt water fishing tips! Highly Recommend!
Ive been in this store to shop quite a few times. Staff is always friendly and helpful. Selection is awesome. They let you try out any kayak you are interested in the pool outside. My husband and I love our new kayak. The waterproof iPhone cases were also the cheapest weve seen for the brand we wanted.
It is nice to go to a place of business where the employees in that store are enthusiastic about their products & services and use / own what they sell. Their depth of knowledge come thru decades of experience. Interested in Hobie watercraft? Come here. Expectations exceeded!
I come to the store regularly, and I have no idea who posts all these negative reviews. It must either be the competition or ex employees. The customer service is fantastic and the new management goes above and beyond to satisfy the customer. The store doest carry any low cost brands, yet whenever I found a better price online or offline they even matched the offer. Great store.
Best and oldest Hobie Kayak dealer in Florida. Service and sales. Their warranty service was very helpful.
I bought a Hobie Pro Angler14 elsewhere but called the shop from the water as it was closer to where I was fishing, I had just broke my Hobie rudder cable due to my own negligence. I was told to bring it in and they would fix it right away. The owner of the store fixed it himself and barely charged me anything for the hour or so he and another man worked on it. It was all done while I waited. So glad I didnt have to leave it for a week or something. I had hit some oyster beds with the rudder and the rubber cable (cord) was all sandy from constant use and finally severed in two pieces. They cheerfully cleaned, repaired (replaced the whole line and ensured it was taunt and aligned correctly. Then they ubed it up for me even taking off some of my accessories and replacing them. They had some good tips for regular maintenance. I had a great experience. I would go back in a heartbeat and plan to sign up for a dive class and go spear fishing with a group that gathers at the store. The owner is a bit salty, a very candid Vet (calls it as he sees it kinda guy) . He was always very polite and funny, maybe some people take it the wrong way but I was impressed. Mike (Denises Husband without a google account)
Lots of big kids stuff as well as good variety of kayaks and parts. Friendly staff!
Visited this place few times now, bought few things, informative, classes, and great service, and people. Everything about water, and activities
Best service in a dive shop so far. Decent prices. Good selection
Excellent store. These guys will get it if they dont have it. They have most everything you can think of and know how to use it!!
Very relaxed and helpful staff certainly have been coming here since the early 90s. Was nice to see the same owner in place and high level of customer service as well as quality.
This is a great shop!! As a commercial boat Capt. and tour operator it is great to have a place that I can recommend to my customers. They can get the equipment, supplies, and solid advice they need to make their dives fun, enjoyable and safe. The place is always well stocked, and the guys there will take the necessary time to get you the right equipment for your diving needs. Thanks Tshack. Capt Drew
Bought a hobie here. Great place. Richard answered all my questions and also shared some tips to master the Hobie pedal drive. They have a pool in the back that lets you test out the kayak. Great customer service.
The wife and I were very pleased with all the staff at Tackle Shack!I am considering buying a Hobie Pro Angler 14 and not only did I get awesome information on it I was also allowed to demo one in a pool there.Wonderful staff and when I am ready to get one...... Ill Be Back!
I was referred to the Tackle Shack after a very poor experience at another dive shop. I could not be more pleased with the quality of training I received for open water certification. The staff was friendly, patient and thorough. The training was fun and we only moved to the next step when I was proficient and comfortable with what I had learned previously. The open water dives were fun and we increased difficulty incrementally.I highly recommend Tackle Shack for those looking for dive training.
Extremely easy had the part I needed from a 1993 Hobie cat and explained how to install it. Ask for Andy
I have purchased equipment from Tackle Shack for about the last 5 years. They have always been willing to put the effort into getting me exactly what I have wanted. Andy, Jimmy, and the crew at Tackle Shack are always there to offer expert advice and assistance with my questions and concerns. I have always got a good deal when I trade with Andy and Jimmy. This place is the best shop I have have found in over 30 years of watersports.
Bought all new cut to length ropes, and two trapeze setups for my Hobie 16 project. Most knowledge anywhere!
My dive instructor Tiffany was very nice. She was able to take the time to make sure I got certified and really understood diving. I would highly recommend you sign up with Tiffany Imbert for Scuba classes. Thanks Again Tiffany really enjoyed getting certified with you.
Awful awful place to take diving lessons...buyer beware..avoid this shop at all costs..Dominic Black who is currently providing diving instruction at this shop is a narcissistic a-hole..find another shop for your diving instruction..until he is replaced, avoid this shop at all costs
I have been a satisfied customer from Tackle Shack since 2007. They are without a doubt the best Hobie Dealers out there and take very good care of their customers and stand behind everything they sell. It does get busy in there sometimes but its worth the wait as they really know how to help you with Hobie Kayaks and accessories. Because of their great customer service, I am now a passionate Hobie customer and love the Hobie Island line.I cant say anything about the dive shop comments but everyone I know who has purchased a Hobie (and I know quite a few in this area) all have nothing but good things to say about Andy, Richard and Jimmy at Tackle Shack. Im suspicious of some of the negative comments that were posted here.
This is not exactly the cleanest and newest store in town but it has an amazing supply of stock for scuba and water sporting equipment.the staff and owners are extremely helpful and knowledgeable and will take very good care of yoi.
Super informative and helpful folks. Happy to answer all your questions and they know their stuff. They will go above and beyond to earn your business.
Got my certification from them, Tom Matthes is the best instructor their is i 1000% recommend him to anyone. You guys are the best!!
Great place for all your diving, fishing and all around water sports. Ask for Richard Booze he is very knowledgeable about all the Hobie products. Theyre the oldest Hobie dealer.
Wow what a clown show. It was like a bad carnival in town. The counterman needs to be medicated. Running around like a chicken with his head cut off. I drop off two regulators it takes me an hour to get out of there. COUNTERMAN TELLS ME EACH STAGE IS 35.00 BUCKS TO REHAB. Great! they insist you pay up front, before services are rendered. So I get it I pay. 224.00 At this point no mention of any additional charges. From the half owner Jimmy or CM. I return in a week, CM brings regulators out with an additional receipt attached to them. CM says oh by the way it will an additional 220.00 bucks..Im like WHAT! WHAT! oh Jimmy did that, so he blames it on his boss and starts saying under his breath that Jimmy is an A-HOLE. That was real professional Clown! for sure. So CM calls Jimmy. jimmy shows up. well you can guess what happens now,,Jimmy socks it to me and I walk out paying double to what I was quoted. I have been diving for 3 decades, I have been conned like that.. I will alert every diver I know for many years to stay away from this cluster clown show.BEST DIVE SHOP IN TOWN IS BILL JACKSONS..TAKE YOUR MONEY THERE.BE SURE YOU DONT BECOME A VICTIM OF THE SHADY TACKLE SHACK DIVE SHOP.
I wish I could leave zero, better yet negative, stars. This place sucks. I am a dive professional and Ive called up several times with questions that required yes or no answers and got hair-brained lectures instead. These old farts love to pontificate and it must be an inferiority complex. I only go there when I absolutely have to. Bill Jacksons is way better
Best scuba shop to get grade E air and all your hobby needs
Scuba diving paradise. Extremely helpful people and a lot of fun.
Went there as suggestion from.salesperson @ Dicks looking for very good snorkel set. fitted for mask by gentleman who understand my limitation, cost and set me up for less than $100
Love my Hobie. Andy and Richard have been very informational and are much more than a salesman!Quality products!
Excellent after sale service, I am very impressed with their regard for customers.
The long time owner, Jimmy is teriffic ! He has and does go above and beyond for his customers.I have been a Tackle Shack customer since the 60s and will continue to be a loyal fan and customer.
Absolutely terrible. I have only dealt with these guys twice and both times they failed miserably. First time I called ahead to see if they had springs for Hobie click and go. Was told they had them but they were impossible to replace. Drove to the store and asked to purchase the springs. Was once again told that they were impossible to replace and was told that they dont even replace them they replace the whole assembly. At $50 a piece I was willing to gamble on replacing the 85 cent spring. I told both of the sales guys this. I was then offered 2 crusty used click and go assemblies for 50% off the new price. I once again repeated that I just wanted the 85 cent spring. At that point one of them walked away angrily. The other gentleman walked back to find the springs when the other guy came back and said I dont know why he wants those springs something insulting my intelligence and then repeated that if he couldnt replace the spring then how the expletive would I. A couple minutes pass and the guy came back out and said they only had the spring for the left side. Frustrating since I called ahead. At this point I decided not to buy the close to $200 of accessories I was also planning to purchase. I was also not confident I would be able to install the spring since the Hobie expert said it was impossible. I went home cracked open a beer and started working on it. 20 minutes later it was fixed and mounted back on my boat. The next day I drove to Sarasota to Dolphin Paddle Sports to get the spring for the other side and the accessories I planned to get the day before. My experience there was the complete opposite. So well organized as opposed to tackle shack that looks like a flea market. The service guy there was over the top helpful and when I mentioned tackle shack he grinned. Says he hears horror stories all the time. The following weekend I wanted to get an anchor trolley. I called to see if tackle shack had one in stock. I was told that I did not want the Hobie anchor trolley and instead given a sales pitch for their custom anchor trolley for $125. No thanks Id rather stick with the Hobie one for $50. Do you have one? We should have one but you really dont want that one. Really? Two times I told them exactly what I wanted and two times it turns into an argument. I told the guy on the phone never mind I will get it elsewhere(ended up getting it at Boaters Republic in Tampa) and he proceeded to start yelling at me and hung up the phone on me. So professional. I called back and asked for the owner. Jimmy picked up the phone and I quickly realized these guys are all condescending and that I will never spend another penny at their disorganized store. Do yourself a favor and buy your Hobie elsewhere.
Very please with tghe service we received. We were taught what we were doing wrong and given great advice. Very pleased with the snorkel equipment we bought. They were not pushy and fit the equipment with our needs. Also, we arrived a bit before they opened and they opened the door for us to come in out of the heat.
I made reservations for myself, wife and two kids to go diving. We paid to have an extra bag checked to carry our dive gear. After arriving in Florida, I called Tackle Shack to get specifics on where we should meet on the day of the dive. I was told the captain cancelled our trip because they didnt have 6 people. They never told me the trip was contingent on getting more people on the boat. Since they cancelled our trip the night before, I wasnt able to make alternate arrangements. I asked him when they were going to tell me the trip was cancelled. A long pause was all I got. Think carefully before doing business with this group!
Great guys
What a great bunch of people. Very helpful. They are very friendly. They have a great selection of equipment
Never liked the service here but location was convenient for me. Took a tank in to get Hydro Tested and filled. The guy that took it in made a comment about how he loved the regulator on the tank, it had a fill gauge on it. When I never got a call to pick up after a month, I stopped in and was told they lost the tank. Never offered to replace it or give any kind of discount on a replacement. I hope he is enjoying the regulator. This was awhile ago, maybe service is better now.
Best in everything good people and great service.
Employees run the extra mile to find what youre looking for
5 Stars isnt enough! This place and the staff are truly excellent. My girlfriend and I have rented and purchased dive equipment here and I recently completed my PADI open water dive certification here. I found the staff (worked primarily with Dominic) to be knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. There was no pressure or up-sell- just candid, insightful recommendations and clear communication about the differences in products offered. Joe, the dive instructor I worked with for my open water certification was awesome. He is very well qualified, a great teacher, and clearly enjoys what he does.In my experience the people who work here are completely competent and exceed expectation. Id highly recommend them for your watersports needs.
My family went in to have a look around. We were greeted by a nice woman who asked if we would like water and provided it instantly. We began looking around the store at all the kayaks and we were impressed. As I started to walk to the other side of the store I heard an older man with white hair talking to the sales woman about how he was a good customer and she walked away from him and that was wrong Did she understand that? The whole way he spoke to her was demeaning and rude. I figured he was just a nasty customer. As he begins to walk towards myself and my daughter, she accidently steps into his path. I pulled her out of his way and apologized but he just does this rude ugh noise and walks behind the counter. Based on his conversation with the employee I am guessing he was the manager or maybe owner. Regardless of how frustrated you are you dont show it in front of your customers and you dont talk to your employees like they are trash. Didnt you just chastise one of your employees for not treating a customer appropriately even though she was the only nice person we encountered?
Bought 2 hobies there over the years. Great people great service
Nice selection. Can be hard to shop in. Needs a merchandiser.
Came in about 45 min before closing to pick up my new Hobie kayak. The staff was very helpful and extremely friendly. This is my second kayak that Ive purchased from them and it is always a pleasure. Talk to Andy. He is the man!!
