Bill and Jacob’s EXCELLENT adventure 🛶🗺💫Bill’s shop provided essential waterproofing including booties and wet suits (socks and pants not recommended underneath). The hardest part of preparing was carrying the tandem kayak down the flight of stairs from the street but once in the water it was smooth sailing around and through Dinosaur Caves🦕 we saw many different birds and even spotted a seal!! Far outside my comfort zone of traditional city boy but HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Prices were awesome, much lower than I had originally anticipated to pay for a day of surfing. Garret was awesome to talk to and was very helpful!We had a blast out there :) thanks a bunch!

Lousy selection, high prices, bad customer service…and an undisclosed ‘No Return’ policy (technically, the receipt does say no returns, but when I bought a pair of booties for my wife, I asked if I could bring them back if they didn’t fit and was told yes. When I tried to return them, I was told no.). I’d recommend you buy whatever it is you need elsewhere.

Quite the menagerie inside the store, very kind man running the shop with his boys, and surf kitty (cat).Be aware that If you do not book a tour and just a kayak you may be responsible for transporting it yourself

My son has purchased crystals and fossils from the store before, never had any issues. Purchased a megalodon tooth there yesterday, guy quoted $275 at case but rang up at $350 at register. Feels shady to be quoted one price and let us decide to purchase and then a different amount quietly rang up at the register. Watch out for this if you are making any kind of significant purchase there.

Rented a 4 seat bike for my family and Bill really take care of us. He explained to us how it works with patience and was really nice. I highly recommend it, check them out 👍

No refund, don’t bother with the “sand-boards” (really just sleds for snow) they don’t work at all on the dunes

Be aware prices in store are higher then what is posted online. If you book online you get online prices but if you go to the location to rent them you get charged more. Our total in store was close to $120 when if we would have booked online it would have been $80! Disappointed this isn’t disclosed on the website. In the store they also charge a 4% surcharge to use a credit card but online that surcharge isn’t included. Just be aware—I wish we would have known this.

Truly enjoyed a beautiful paddle around (and through) caves with the help of Scott, our guide. Awesome experience. Scott was great!

Love this shop. The owners are incredibly nice and accommodating. They have a great range of rentals and a lot of nice clothing/accessories in the shop. Location is perfect right off of the beach. Cannot recommend them enough!

I called Bill this morning to ask a simple question. Do you have any. Spring Suits. I wanted to grab one for myself and my daughter. We are headed to the beach today. Water is cold but just want to swim. Im a surfer as well. We have tons of full suits, but just dont feel like dealing with a full just to swim. Seems like the whole central coast is out of spring suits. Bill said yes we have them. I asked Can you tell me if you have a mens large and a mens small. He replied just come in. I said I would be driving down from SLO and just wanted to confirm that he indeed had them in stock as most are sold out. His response was Yea 10 miles... really far, just come in.. What??? I called about 10 shops this morning all were super nice, Except for Bill. I admit I blew it when I called him back. I asked him why he was being such an A..hole... My bad, I apologize. ... he responded that I cant come into his store. sounds like a fair deal. I found some at Moondoggies. I spend a ton of money at surf shops. Be nicer Bill, there are other options out there. I recommend people look elsewhere. ALL the other shops were super kind.

Great old school family owned business.Told Randy I was looking for my first board and had a basic understanding of what I wanted. He let me rent-to-buy a Fish that fit my description. Loved the board, came with fins and a leash and even a hookup on an old wetsuit. I took a bad fall on it and stomped off the point of one tail at the end of the day..He repaired it for me the next morning at only material costs and even walked me through the process while he did! Repair has held up great since, and the board has been perfect for what I wanted.These guys look out for their customers.

I called in last minute with a sea cave kayak tour request for two. The owner Bill took a friend and me out personally, just the three of us. He was a funny guy and provided great instruction for us as we are beginners. He even brought out his digital camera and got some great snapshots of us. He showed us the seals on the rocks and brought us right up to the friendliest sea otter. I would highly recommend this business!

All the guys working were super friendly and took the time to talk to actually talk to my little one about the wetsuit he wanted & what hed be using it for (they got a good laugh while they were at it too!). They helped us find the right fit, and made sure we had all the gear wed need to keep our little man safe in the water!

Bill and Randy took great care of my wife and I. It was a perfect opportunity to explore Shell Beach and its caves. We were on our little honeymoon and couldn’t have made a better choice! Highly recommended!!

Bill is the shop owner and his tours are fantastic. The customer service is great and the equipment was sanitary and taken care of. You learn a lot of history about the dinosaur caves and the wild life. Bill made the whole trip fun and exciting!

I took my grandson and his friend for the kayak morning tour. It was about an hour in the water with interesting sights and a knowledgeable guide pointing out things. Eased right up to a Otter. The only hitch was they advertise a CD of pictures but didnt take the camera. I asked the owner and he said it is hard to do in a tandem. If I had known that I would not have said yes when he asked if I wanted to tandem with the guide. The owner made it right and I was satisfied. But if you want pictures make sure the guide is in a single.

These guys are great!!! My surfing lesson this am with Corrie was awesome...cant wait til the next one. Last week he took me sea kayaking in the caves and we saw lots of seals..paddled right up to them. They apparently know Corrie well because they werent the least bit afraid of us! For anyone looking to learn or enhance their skills..they will take good care of you here!!

Friendly shop but found out they sold me a “used” Hyperflex wetsuit for 4 dollars less than the Hyperflex website lists them brand new.

I love this place! Its definitely the place to go if you are looking for a great time in the San Luis Obispo area. Its clean, interesting, cheap, and has a huge amount of history behind the shop. Just going and looking around the place is fun in itself but Bill offers sea cave kayak tours, surfboard rentals/ lessons, etc. I used to come by this place as much as I could to go surf at Pismo Pier. You wont find another place in Pismo with this much character.

Nice at first...but charged me an extra 16 dollars for bringing a board back 1hr late. Id understand at peak season and if it was a weekend. But it was a Monday morning with no one renting on a slow day. He had a stack of boards just sitting.

The best place to go if you want to kayak the ocean! So much fun! Kayaked to an empty beach that was full of beautiful seaglass. Overall this place was the best kayak ride weve been on yet. :)

Very friendly staff! Bought my daughter her first board there and will never forget our experience there. They made her feel comfortable and the way she looked at her board I knew I got myself a surfer girl.

It seemed like such a fun place. But when I purchased a piece of junk, I realised that the price was WAY beyond the value to me. I tried to return the piece within minutes of the transaction happening, and the clerk denied me. Please note that ALL SALES ARE FINAL... Even if you havent yet left the property.

The owner is a fairly unpleasant person indeed. I went there to have a look at the kayaks he had and later called to ask for a deal with 2 days wet-suit, 1 day + overnight for a cobra strike and 1 single day beginners surfboard. Guy on the phone tells me 2*10 + 65 + 15 but i need to be at the shop at 7am because the go on a trip. I reiterated the entire plan and had the deal reconfirmed.I put my alarm clock and just walked over to get to their shop just before 7am where the owner first wanted to send me back because he had no time. When I told him that I walked over so early because Ive been told that I should be in at 7 he almost threw a paper form at me, said: fill this in and rushed off.When he came back he doubled the price for the kayak saying its my shop, I make the rules. I reminded me of the deal I agreed to with his employee he recognized that but still wanted an entire day extra for the overnight. In fact he tapped his hand on his belly and said, regarding the employee I talked with: I fired him. Not a word of excuse, nothing offered. All that while stuffing a cheeseburger into his mouth. That is the kind of person we talk about.As for the Kayaks themselves: nothing special in terms of sea kayaks, the usual stuff. The paddles are of the lowest possible quality and not well maintained.As for the Surfboards, I dont know, looked OK to me but Im not an expert there. However AVOID THAT PLACE, its not worth it.

Great people to work with, full of information on the area and things to do. I went for a battery replacement for my dive computer and decided with the pricing of their products to buy a new one and very happy with my new purchase.

Great shop full of eclectic items inside and out. Friendly, funny, and knowledgeable staff. They offer various outdoor activities too. Best was the kayaking trip on the ocean. Gorgeous views, wildlife, funny and interesting commentary from the guides, and exciting cave exploring all while on kayaks. They provide the kayak, paddles, wetsuit, shoes, etc.

What a cool place! Cool surf shop but even cooler collection and setting! A great mix of all aspects of california. Dont pass it by!

My son and I went on a kayak tour last night organized by Pismo Surf Shop. We had a blast and saw the local wildlife up close, found sea glass in the caves and learned so much about the local history. This was life changing experience for both of us. We will be back.

I bought my first surfboard here and the owner sold me this board that he said would be good to learn on. Its awful! Turns out its a big wave board, a gun, I believe. I took the board back and he said, sorry, that board is useless, only worth $50 to me (sold to me for $120) and a fellow employee criticized him for selling a beginner such an advanced board. Boooooooooo

Really enjoyed perusing the place, had more stuff than we can ever even see. Owner was fun to talk with and was very knowledgeable of his wares.

I loved this place. My lady friend and I had a blast kayaking the caverns with Corrie, and then the Great Bill Bookout got us all squared away for a SCUBA shore dive that same afternoon. Plus, Corrie stayed with us at no charge and took us to the dive spot, helped us with our gear, everything. I cant wait to go back to Pizzmo to see these dudes.

Everytime Ive come in they have always had good prices and be more than happy to help get the right equipment.

I could write a page how this is a great surf shop period and antiques and guru stuff everywhere. . its more then a surf shop its a lifestyle . pure 100 percent stoke. Enjoy the ride in life and thats what it feels like when you go there. Its a wonderland of so much amazing elements from this earth . they have surf and kayak lessons . one of the most laid back peaceful shops .Bill and his Cat or cats. His wife are so nice that u feel you have known them forever . my dream has been to have a shop just like this...i grew up in Huntington beach and Laguna. Venice and Redondo Beach. The vibes in southern california are absolutely incomparable to the radness of this shop. ..if you need a old beater board . he has them . if you want yard art he has them and awesome . its all here and all good period. Hakuna Matada all the days..when i was introduced to paddle boarding because of this shop all i can say is they helped me love surfing again because of there energy and suggested knowledge of just pure waterman status that Bill is. He surfs more then most the young cats in Pismo. Everyday he surfs so u know his shop has love and boarding. Aloha

Lovely guy and a lot if history crammed into a great store, catering for many different water sports. We hired boards and a wetsuit for my girlfriend. Having rented brand new hard top boards in Monterey and Morro Bay in was disappointed with the selection available at Pismo, it was only soft top boards or old school hard boards. To be fair the board I ended up with would have been great for a better surfer, but I wanted a mini mal and a step up from a foam board ands that wasnt on offer. It was also a lot more expensive than Morro, at least 30% more. Id be inclined to do elsewhere next time.

Super upset with how they dealt with my sister today. Im a local and shes from Washington and after seeing her license they charged her an arm and a leg and made some excuse up so and pressured her into buy the whole weekend package. I went in there of course and had them do a return. They wouldnt make eye contact with me, both looking super guilty
