Or family absolutely loves the place. We take both our children here for music lessons. The staff are phenomenal. They have really encouraged our kids to get into music. The set up is nice. That being said Ive spent a lot of time walking around while the children were in lessons. It looks like they have a great selection of guitar drum piano DJ and sound equipment.

Was there for an hour. No one offered help or even made eye contact, despite walking past the counter of 3 employees (talking to each other) several times as I hunted through their amps for a power cord and guitar cable.Pulled several guitars off the wall, played for 45 minutes, or so, put everything back and brought the amp up to purchase. It was at that point that ONE of the dudes recognized my presence and spoke to me. The other two were too busy talking about how they could make more money saying would you like fries with that, instead of, would you like to add purchase protection to your guitar?Dont think they could keep up the pace at mcdonalds, though, sadly.

Always come here for strings. All the employees are kind and helpful. They have a wide selection of gear. Prices are what youd expect. Not the cheapest. Not the most expensive either. I usually rely on them when Im in a pinch and need something that day. Overall, its Guitar Center.

Just your typical guitar center location. I will say that everytime I go in, the employees are all super friendly and very laidback! Recently bought a brand new squire telecaster that i absolutely love!

I always enjoy talking to the young folks there. They really know their business. Clean store. Plenty of parking.

Weve been at this Guitar Center location quite a few times, never a disappointing experience. All of the employees are knowledgeable and professional.I only added pictures of the temp & humidity controlled string instruments room because its beautiful (and smells amazing).

Portage GC doesnt have the biggest inventory but they make up for it by having a strong team of friendly and accommodating employees.

Super helpful staff and reasonable retail deals. Mutiple ways of financing expensive equipment and instruments. Plenty of lessons for all ages I believe, with some pretty fair pricing.5/5

Went to this place right before the lockdown and bought my son a guitar so he had something fun to do with all his new found free time. I knew literally nothing about guitars..and they were super friendly and helpful. They helped me pick a good beginner guitar in my price range and told me everything he would need to get started. The girl even tuned it for us and showed us how to do it ourselves when we got home.It’s been about a year now and everytime we visit is a good experience. This is a great place

Since 2012 I have been shopping this store and I can honestly say that I have never been disappointed! The staff at Guitar Center is very cool. I have never felt pressured as I shop and I have also met some very cool fellow musicians. If something that I bought wasnt up to par, they made it right! I think that my purchases have all been pretty decent deals, so I will continue to shop Guitar Center.

The guy that helped me knows what he know when it comes to strings. I asked for a set for good clear crunch tone and he suggested the diadario nyxl strings. Got them on and it sounds lit nice crunch sound with clarity.

Are they going out of business? Bought an acoustic guitar years ago at this store and they had a great selection. A couple of weeks ago they had about a dozen acoustic guitars in the acoustic room. Very disappointed. I bought a new acoustic subsequently at Sweetwater and had a great experience.

Had to update this review. Steve Moore is awesome and gets 5 stars, but Guitar Center (nationally) gets 0 stars from me, so Im splitting the difference with 3. The instrument I ordered came in with a gouge in the front. Steve immediately ordered a replacement for me, looking for a pristine instrument. First of all, it took longer to arrive than the initial instrument and was not shipped when they said it would...and they also gave me zero information on what was going on with the delay. Second, the back corner of the headstock has a good chunk of paint chipped off, as well as a small scratch on the neck. Otherwise, I love the instrument, so I decided to keep it instead of going through even more hassle. But, if you can get an instrument elsewhere, Id suggest it. A brand new instrument should be...brand new, perfect, and hassle-free. If you HAVE to go to Guitar Center, ask for Steve Moore. Hell do what he can to take care of you.(Original 5 star review)Had a great experience with this shop. I called in looking for a special, limited edition 5-string bass, which they did not have in store, but Steve Moore located the instrument online and put in an order for me, to arrive at my home in just a few days. Repaired our guitar beautifully, restored its color and shine, amazing service and a comfortable store and environment. Plus a huge selection of music equipment.

Normally a good place to find cool stuff, but had an employee tell me amp/mixing board combos dont exist. No such product he informed me. I went home, did some research, and bought one online that Im very happy with. Go here for ideas, but take any advice offered by staff with a grain of salt.

Its a nice store for Kalamazoo/Portage. People are helpful and friendly. They have everything except the very high end electric guitars. Of course they can get anything into the store if you ask. Used section of guitar amps is always the reason I would stop by. You never know what might show up. Prices on the used gear is really hard to beat. Very fair pricing. Bought a few used guitar pedals and never had an issue.

Inventory is basically nonexistent. The inventory they do have is slim as far as amplification goes. Tbh guitar selection was less than stellar. The amp section looked like the front window of a pawn shop. Bunch of old 90s model crate amps and what not.

There wasnt 1 staff member that asked if we needed assistance! I was looking to spend up to $1,000 on a guitar for my husband but with no customer assistance Im ok... no thank you!

Great selection of musical items and accessories. Waited in line with others to pay for guitar picks. One worker behind one of the counters playing guitar( well I might add) but no service from the others. Waited 5 min in line. Two patrons left the store. Finally asked if I could get checked out. Was motioned to another desk. When I got there was told just a minute. Nothing was going on. When I was well j have been waiting a long time I will just leave then. All of a sudden I became visable and important. Better attention to patrons and service is needed. I can order the stuff I need on line- prefer local

Pricing is more forgiving than what Ive seen at pawn shops. There arent many places to go for instruments/music supplies anymore and Guitar Center has everything from drums, wind instruments, guitars, and even recording/stage equipment.

I put a Gretchen guitar and case on layaway when I got there to pick it up after a hour of picking out some other items and paying for all. I waited for them to put the guitar in the case so I could carry out to my car. I was told the case didnt go with it. Will never step foot in any of your stores again. I had other items a amplifier other items I had paid for at the time I put the guitar on layaway. I went back home retrieved those items and took back to your store! Had everything returned for refund $ 1,000.00 worth. My brother was present when the deal went down. He and all our friends will never use your business for anything. Went into gutar center looking to buy a guitar for my left handed brother, was planning on buying something there. They couldnt help me at all with what I was looking for couldnt tell me the price for such a job and just didnt seem well knowledgeable. So I didnt buy anything and wont be back there unless I know what i want and dont need assistance.If you go to Guitar Center educate yourself first before they manipulate you.

Thank you, Barry! I purchased a used amp online at Guitar Center and when I received it I was unhappy with the sound. I’m a newbie with amps. What happened is when I hooked it up to my stereo receiver that I bought from Best Buy the power just wasn’t there. I then went to this location in Kalamazoo and spoke to a wonderful man named Barry. He offered me to bring in my Sony stereo receiver to see what’s going on. I brought it in my receiver and he hooked up to his equipment in the store. Turns out the receiver doesn’t let the amp do its thing, so I returned it at Best Buy. Barry then showed me how I can purchase a mixer board and hook up the amp to that. I was totally fine with the idea because I don’t listen to the radio. I purchased the mixer from him and hooked up the amp to it at home. My new speakers sound amazing now, heart pounding bass and so many channels to hook up other things. If I would have never met Barry I wouldn’t have the sound system that I have now. I’m beyond grateful, thanks to him and his knowledge and professionalism I can now enjoy my new speakers. It’s a good thing my neighbors are pretty far away.

Every guitar center is employed by sad, washed out musicians that channel their resentment into their customer service. Not this one! Very friendly.

Huge selection of used gear, and private recording studios in house are the biggest bonuses they have to offer and its easily accessible right off the highway. 10/10

Eh... Its ok. Unfortunately it is really the only place left in Kzoo with guitars. But the helpers do anything but that. There is little knowledge about what they sell, the high end acoustics cant be played unless they unlock them, the selection is pretty poor... One breedlove acoustic was so badly set up (really needed a neck reset). Just disappointing that GC is the best Kalamazoo has to offer for guitars. Spend a day and head to Sweetwater in Ft. Wayne or over to Chicago to the multiple stores in that city. Oh, and dont buy the extended GC warranty. What a rip off. A warranty offered on a guitar with a lifetime warranty already? Thats BS.

I took my beloved guitar here to have a new set of pegs put on along with a new set of strings. They also adjusted the neck and the bridge. My guitar sounds better than ever! All of that for $60. This is the best place to take your guitar for service.

Love to go there looking at the guitars, so many of them, but I own a Kramer 3000, from what I understand they dont make Kramers any more! My boyfriend plays guitar really good, even the drums, he is so good, also hoping to get a set of drums from the Guitar Center... That would be an awesome dream come true! The employees there are very nice and very helpful in what you need. We go there a lot, love the Guitar Center!!!

My friend just got through with 30 days of nonsense. He was initially told his guitar would be ready in 7-10 days and after 30 days he still received no help. He ended up having to take his guitar to a shop in Grand Rapids where the procedure was done in a timely and professional manner. Do not try to get work (repairs/customization) done here. You will get sent through the ringer.

Had a great experience with Barry in the audio department! I had ordered an electric piano from another company online, but when it ended up backordered for several months, I tried Guitar Center to see if they could get the same piano for me sooner. Not only did I get my piano in less than a week, Barry was able to price match a sale price from before Christmas, AND he used his own time and vehicle to deliver it to my home and help me get it inside! Fantastic service, will definitely use Guitar Center for all my music needs from now on! 👍

Drum room needs improvement to inspire younger generation there needs to be a better set-up to play on inspiration will bring more cash as well
