Such a wonderland of colors and textures. I love that Hello Good Morning Kids is also now housed within these walls, two for the price of one. Both women curating these collections have impeccable taste and it is a constant feast for the eyes. The perfect gift shopping experience for this season, and exactly how I wanted to spend my own birthday gift to myself. Making an appointment was simple, and I even had the treat of running into old friends. Love love love this place.
Lovely place. It looks like a neat place for furniture. My wife says that they have lovely chachkies and knick knacks. Its a great gift place. If youre crafty theres plenty of stuff for you to implement into your work like stickers and stamps and scissors. It felt like there was a wide variety of cultures in the items as well which I found interesting. Great parking it was free nearby.
So many nooks and crannies to discover, especially after a weekend brunch. Love the way items for sale are laid out so artistically. It feels like an invitation to explore; you just want to buy 1 of everything in here. A super unique place to shop. What a blast!
The most magical place in the world! I always find some really cool treasure. Until the world is safe for travel this will be our getaway!
Amazing, clean, proper, great information, front desk is bilingual and very professional, doctor Smith is so good!! Oliver is very happy.
Unbelievable! Oh, the treasures you will find. Must see. It’s like walking into a touchable museum. Everything is for sale. So, don’t over look pieces you think are for decoration. They could be yours. Local women own this shop which has been in business for more than 25 years. They travel the world looking for just the right items. Local artists are also featured. Sustainable pieces supporting Sudanese women and their tribal beading practices. These artful wearable pieces support up to 6 people in their homes. Don’t forget the downstairs. So many incredible things to see. This shop is in constant supply of new items as the owners are always traveling so no trip here will ever be the same.See the kitty. Free pets welcome. This rescue cat found its home. Give yourself time here. You’ll be glad you did. Enjoy!
Sometimes I think I would move to Portland, OR just so I could furnish my home and shop at this store every week. It probably is a good think we dont live there. I simply love to wander in get lost among the beautiful Asian antiques, beautiful fabrics and lush, rich colors. I loaded up on sumi-e paint brushes and hand made papers for art projects I am dreaming of undertaking this year. Add Cargo to you must visit list when in Portland!
How much fun can you have shopping? Come tickle your shopping bug at Cargo!Imports galore. Home items. Art and artifacts. The largest selection of every color party crepe paper streamers you have ever laid eyes on. Jewels for you or for gifting. Houseplants for thriving.Cargo is more than just a store... Mystery, intrigue, a cacophony of color, and good old fashioned Portland service from the knowledgeable staff.Limited hours/ entry on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
You literally could spend hours in this store and still miss things. There is something for everyone, tchotchkes and plants and cloth…found objects. Go here you won’t regret it.
Somewhat of a destination store, but worth the trip. Always great one-of-a-kind finds. The best place to pick up gifts. Also love the old school photo booth.
If you only had time to visit a few places in Portland on a short trip, this should be at the top of the list! Its a one-of-a-kind experience, and your patronage supports both artisans and local business owners. Its a life-changing experience to visit Cargo!!!
A cool trading style place with many types of arts, furniture, and craft from South Asia. It is easy to find with street parking available. The staff is courteous. The Covid-19 protocols ensure people are safe while visiting. A great place to visit and buy things
Polite staff, with care & attention shown to pandemic style shopping, with only a few items removed e.g. perfume testers.A pricey shop but a good place for gifts & treats.
Would liked to have shopped here for our one day in Portland, but they are apparently by reservation only and had no room at 3pm for 2 people. Would be nice to have seen a sign in front of the shop before we walked in the cold rain and waited for someone to come to the door after trying to find parking.
Cargo is A+ retail. You can spend $2 there or $500 and leave equally stoked on the treasure you scored. I loved their Pearl District location but their new SE location is even better. Love the addition of Japanese deli and the “Hello Good Morning” section. It’s a great place to get a unique gift for a friend or something to add some soul to your home.
Cargo is a fantastic store. It has something for everyone, fashion, homewares, kids toys, plants, asian furniture, antiques and even books. My go to place for Christmas shopping. Support local businesses
So weird! Always big and beautiful, I go often but it still changes all the time.
I could spend hours upon hours in this place feels almost like Im in Alice in wonderland. So colorful and so many knickknacks to gaze at. Pretty affordable for all the beautiful imported goods (a lot of unique home decor type stuff) they have there. Has a very markety collectic look. Highly recommend going if you havent been before. Good for Christmas shopping as well!
I wasnt at Cargo, I was visiting the people that live outside of the building. But?????
Cargo is a beautiful store, so much so that shopping and taking friends along to explore is a genuine joy. Items are eclectic and fun to look at, many are handcrafted. Browsing is like treasure hunting. Excellent place to go gift shopping, look for party decorations, find home decor, jewelry, the list goes on. Inspiring place for artists, a refuge in the city.
This store is hard to characterize- but basically it is everything you did know that you needed! The interior is truly an Ali Babas cave of wonders- with truly wonderful treasures. If you are a collector of furisode kimono, silk saris or paper good this is a very good place to check out. Also excellent small maker perfumes soaps and other cosmetics- plus beautiful airy breezy clothing. Cargo needs to be experienced in person.
First off this place is way fun! So much to see. Terrific authentic items and newer replicas too. The time we went there was a tarot card reader there too, which was kinda cool if you wanted to wait in the (albeit short) line. Dont miss downstairs! The plants section has terrific ideas for creative pots and plant placement. Plus the furniture is really unique. Its not cheap! But you can find a really special item for a centerpiece of a room. Tons of cool storage type cabinets and trunks. Very unique and heavy carved wood coffee tables. Things like that! Only 4 stars due to limited parking and also pretty high prices.
Their import game is off the charts. Any time we need home goods like hooks, boxes, blankets, whatever, we go to Cargo. Their kantha blanket list price dropped by 67% since the last time we checked it. Bridgette (probably spelled wrong) is a champion
The. Most. Fun. Store. In. Portland. Great place to find gifts, beautiful jewelry, furniture. And there’s a Japanese food counter in there, too! Staff is wonderful. Great place to take out of town guests.
Beautiful store as normal but just a stroll by visit due to being outside of store hours...but still staring in brings a smile.
Beautiful store with so many fun trinkets and things to explore at all price ranges. Very helpful and sweet staff. The cashier even gave us a decorative butterfly.
This place makes me happy. I love the way the people here display their goods. So artistically and simply at the same time. It gives me inspiration
Its a must for Portlander and visitors alike. This place never fell to impress you and even much more surprisingly outdone themselves all the times. The products selected by the marvelous test of the buyers. The layouts of the merchandise have wonderful surprises ideas in every corner. The staffs are very friendly, polite and attentive. The best is the two ambassadors of the store, Thor and Collar lily🐶🐱 respectively❤
Larger wood item in store way overpriced. Seems everything large was 2 grand and above, smaller wood items 490 and above. I think the smaller gates and such would be better sales starting at 250-300. I’d actually buy a couple items at those prices. Seeing that they are from India makes me think their markup must be 800 percent. It’s too bad a store like this caters more to west hills Portland than a more common folk who’d actually appreciate a unique piece in their garden.
THIS PLACE!!! Its really beyond words. Think full art installation store. I was overwhelmed by the beauty and intricacies of the displays. There is much to see. Could have spent all day there happily. I felt like I was walking through an artists dream realized. Great place for dreamers or those in need of inspiration. Would shop there for unique handmade gifts and home wares. They have an incredible jewelry selection as well. $ to $$$
So many amazing things to see, plus Bloke, Giraffe Goods who makes amazing Japanese food, and a whole slew of other venders whose sole job is to make you want to buy everything in here! Plus, a parking lot in back for supreme ease. Expect to spend time in this place.
One of my favourite stores of all time!! An ethnic-antique mega store! Cargo mixes gorgeous, older pieces of furniture, accessories, costumes and toys from all around the world with thoughtful newer selections of jewelry, cards and trinkets from all over the world. The store is enormous - 2 floors. In the basement are tons of pieces, mostly from Asia. Old tin store signs from Japan, shelves from India, opium beds from China. They have gorgeous jewelry here. This is where I first saw pieces by Ayala Bar and they have a giant collection here.If you love eclectic, ethnic, original decor - you really MUST come here.
Cargo is a fun little place. Parking in the area is kind of a bear but Cargo has a parking lot! No minor thing in Central Eastside. I went specially for the prayer candles. They have RBG and Mueller which I think is hilarious. They actually have several stores inside Cargo including a food and coffee bar and a plant place. There was a huge bin of thin metal bracelets in myriad colors. My friend bought some poppers for NYE and said they were great quality. I’d say that there’s a lot of things here and it’s a good place to come look and shop. No fancy names or prices here. It’s a fun place to check out for campy, trendy and antique-y stuff.
Cargo is one of the best stores in Portland. Thoughtfully curated and put together. I always walk out with something
Information overload! So many quality products available at decent (albeit a little higher) prices. Downstairs is filled with antique furniture that would make great set pieces in your home. I imagined that the doors that are leaning against the walls open to portals to other worlds. A lot of fun to wander around and check all the colorful/textural items.
I went to cargo the first time I visited Portland, before I moved here, when it was in the Pearl, because it was on the handout tourist map. I love it there. It reminds me of a secret box that you open, and you never know what will be inside. The staff is amazing and helpful, and the store is exactly what they call it... My happy place. :)
Interesting mix of Japanese and Indian clothing, knickknacks and a deli. Some furniture and lighting in will decorated warehouse space. I didnt buy anything... priced on the upper end
Eldrena was extremely helpful! She answered each of our questions, and walked us through to ensure that we had a good understanding. She was also very pleasant. I will certainly return to the store because of her!
Cargo is one of a kind store! I can always find something wonderful either for myself or for gifts. The shop is beautifully curated with an amazing eye for the unique and affordable. I just love this shop!!! Shouldnt be missed!!!
You will need to make reservations online in order to enter the store.
Accidentally stumbled upon this place en route to somewhere nearby. A little pricey, if youre looking for something specific youd best check somewhere else first. Offers a very wide selection of imported goods, very fun to just browse.
So I totally love this place and always have. I will continue to come here. Im only giving it 4 stars though because whats a bit disappointing is I feel many items are way overpriced (however not all - some are OK). Having been to many Asian countries and also have bought many things from India and other countries online, there are many items here you can find in this store for less online (and way less in their countries! But thats beside the point). I understand marking prices up a bit, but on some things here I feel its just too much.
Wow! Wow! Wow! I didnt get much time in Portland, unfortunately, but this store was one of the most impressive Ive been in. So many interesting items ranging from so many areas of the world. I will definitely come back and recommend to anyone coming towards the area.
Just stopped in for a bite and had the best Meal in a Year!
Im not sure how to completely describe cargo. Their website is worth checking out. Ive never left without buying something, even if its just an antique Indian tapestry stamp for under 5$
Omg I could live in this store. TONS of unique items and everything feels like one of a kind. I easily spent a couple hundred and have zero regrets!
Cool place for trendy items for your home or gifts. A large variety of imports from all over the world. Bad news is the stuff is spendy....... didnt buy anything....... probably wont go back
Love cargo!Spent a lot of time and money here especially in preparation for my wedding in 2016.I do have to note an extremely off putting experience today.Today (2/10/19 around 4:19pm) my partner and I decided to pop in the shop because it’s a pretty happy place for me and we were celebrating our anniversary. As my partner and I walked around we noticed that we were being followed by an employee. They didn’t ask us if we needed assistance instead just followed closely. At one point I turned around to speak to my partner and the employee that was a dark haired woman with a bob haircut in glasses was standing right behind him. I instantly felt very unwelcomed and calmly left the store. Honestly, I’m a little shaken by this because it felt like some low key profiling. Why didn’t this employee acknowledge us and instead actively stalked us? Did we not look wealthy enough? Were we too brown? For a shop that profits off of cultural appropriation (including our family culture) I certainly hope neither of these possibilities is the case.Today marks the most awkward store hovering ever.
Some really cool stuff here. A little overpriced but eh the goods are fine quality so I suppose it makes sense. If you’re looking for something weird, you’ll probably find it here.
This is an amazing place for suvioners and has amazing staff
Love Cargo ! Got fantastic ring from Africa !
Better than you could ever imagine...
Great selection of imported goodies. Like a local cost plus world market.
Theres a friendly giraffe with tasty chicken and my girlfriend likes the knickknacks
I was helping looking for a very specific object and the staff was extremely helpful. Great selection of imported goods, fair prices. Thank you!!!!
Great place for kanthas
Cargo is in a bit of an inconspicuous location, which gives it even more of an off the beaten path sort of feel. It is chock full of toys, gifts, clothing, jewelry and art from all around the world though predominantly China, Japan and Mexico. The goods for sale here are not only varied in way of origin and style, but also in price! One of the best aspects of this shop is that I can give my son $1-$2 and let him pick out a small, fun item for himself or a friend. This is not a place where gifts will bust your wallet. They have an exceptional assortment of unique door knockers and skeleton keys with locks (yes, they work!), and they also have a really small but neat collection of quarter machines. I got a couple of worry dolls, mini dice, a mini metal skeleton key, and a quaint plastic compass (also works!) All in a this is a great place to shop, whether for gifts, novelties or home decor. The people working behind the counter were so friendly and helpful, just an all around great experience.
It was a amazing place eye candy every where you look, highly recommend . staff where friendly and very helpful
Love this place.. really cool stuff at a reasonable price.
Awesome staff and residential artists! Excellent source for unique home decor.
Huge, eclectic selection from very cheap to very very expensive. Fun the browse.
Different stuff everywhere you look, and there are things for basically any price range. Got a delicious sandwich at giraffe and browsed around, had a really great time and will surely be back again!
Very nice, eclectic store and very friendly staff!
I do and dont like Cargo. If you love just a wide assortment of vintage stuff, this is the place to go to. If you dont want to fill your house up full of crap, avoid this place at all costs.
Its like an expensive World Market without the wine, snacks and coffee. Fun for window shopping
This is a great store for things you never see anywhere else.
So cool a real mixed bag
Such cool stuff. Visit exotic lands/markets with no passport required.
This is a neat store to explore with furniture and decorations from all over the world. The prices are reasonable and staff is friendly.
Could have been left there for a couple of days and would have been totally content. Eclectic mix of appeal for the senses.
Way too much cool stuff.
What a fun place. So many unique things.
LOVE this place - made me feel like I was back in Asia again.
My favorite place in Portland...totally original, new treasures every visit, and something for all budgets.
I could spend all day and a million dollars in here. Love this place and all it’s treasures.
Beautiful place to experience/shop at. Look carefully, youll miss a lot.
A store with all kinds of unique things in it.
Always fun and quirky items there.
Always fun to browse. They have an incredible selection of items from around the world ranging from dollars to thousands of dollars.
What an Amazing place to find anything you ever wanted (and a lot of stuff you never will). From paper clips to large furnitures.
The prices may be on the high side, but damn this place is fun.
Lots to look at, friendly staff and a cool cat
I didn’t want to leave - easily the most fascinating shopping afternoon I have ever experienced!
Lovely store with wonderful eclectic wares, super nice employees and kitty to pet!
Soooo much to look at and a delicious, authentic food at the deli.
Really nice stuff here and tasty onigiri at Giraffe
