R. Spencer Antiques came down to Salem to purchase my parents 100 year old Luce Dining Room set, with 5 chairs, side board, mirror buffet, table with two leaves. They came down prepared to respect the furniture with an enclosed u-haul, moving pads, tie downs, and tools (if necessary). They recognized the value and quality of the furnishings they were about to receive. Treating this quality of furniture is important, as it isnt just some random thing to store old paint cans on in the outside rain. Their knowledge and expertise made it very easy to work with them and I highly recommend them for your antique needs either through purchasing or by selling. R. Spencer Antiques made me happy that my moms beloved set was going to someone who respected the quality! I recommend R. Spencer Antiques.
R. Spencer Antiques is a lovely store! I found a wonderful tile from them when I visited Portland and did not end up purchasing it then, but later when I reached out email they were kind of enough to track it down for me, let me pay over PayPal, and ship it to my home. It was such nice customer service.
When my Dad died, I was left with his beautiful and very much treasured antiques. I was referred to Spencers Antiques and little did I know how pivotal they would be in everything. They purchased items for their store and very quickly had them up on social media for sale. You could tell from the write up that they treasured them as much as my late father had-- it made me so happy. In addition, they provided much needed guidance based on their over 50 years of experience on how to honor my Dads remaining antiques. Several were in disrepair but still quite beautiful and they helped me find the right people for those too! They became a trusted advisor in this process and I would work with them again in a heartbeat. In such a difficult time, I found a company that treated these antiques as old friends and brought integrity and kindness in a difficult time.
It was great to work with the Spencer family to sell a very special antique dresser that’s been in our family for over 30 years. I am confident they will make sure it goes to a good home. I will be using their services in the future for any other antiques. Great Portland business to support!
Fantastic communication. Wonderful antique. Fairly priced. Two thumbs way up!!
Last week we visited again after not being able to go there for a time. It is one of our favorite shops in Portland, and these days we are especially mindful of places and people in the community we appreciate. Purchased a lovely French antique mantle clock and got some great advice and help improving an heirloom table we have. Later looked around the house at all the other pieces we’ve acquired there over time and enjoy so much. There is always a great selection of furniture and collectibles, more than reasonable prices and friendly, very knowledgeable folks.
This store is the best. Weve been buying things here for ages, since the time that Sellwood was Portlands attic, where nearly all the stores sold antiques and, well, whatever else you might find in an attic. Spencer was always one of the best. They have great stuff at great prices. We recently bought a walnut dresser thats probably seen over 100 years and is built to see another hundred. At prices that are competitive with Ikea, its hard to know why you wouldnt go with something that will last (and comes put together). Plus, you can save money and buy tiny meatballs when you want them and not have to wait until you want a dresser.
They were great to deal with. Spent a lot of time going through each piece individually and weighing. I would not hesitate to do further business with them.
I have to tell you this family is honest and very pleasant. I took some things in to sell but we didnt make any transactions. To make a long story short. When I got home I couldnt fine the jade earings I had taken there. I called them later that evening and they found them on the floor. The son remember us being there. They put them in a plastic with a note belongs to a man and women that came in with snuff bottles to sell. Thank you so much for caring and saving them for me. You all are awesome. Carolyn
My husband and I just bought a new home and we’re looking for items ranging from large furniture to small odds and ends. We went to Spencer’s and found so many treasures! We got a great large desk as well as beautiful plates and art, even a fun vintage apron! The staff was most helpful and we feel they were very fair with the pricing. Overall a wonderful experience, we will definitely be back!
This is a great place to come browse. Great selection of early 19th century publications. I got a beautiful vase for a reasonable price. The owner is really nice and it’s great to know it’s a family business staying alive in Portland for several generations.
R. Spencer Antiques, Inc. responded quickly, was honest and transparent about the item of interest and communicated information in a timely manner. The transaction was completed easily, the item purchased was packed with great care and shipped within a few days. I highly recommend the business.
I wanted to sell a genuine Stickley bookcase, but were not sure how much it was worth, or how to sell an antique like this. I emailed Robert the details about the piece. I was impressed with the amount of information he shared with me. He told me what he thought it was worth, but then he also provided numerous ways for me to verify its value via other auction house sources around the country. His candor and apparent genuineness enabled me to trust him, especially after validating his estimate via these other sources. I subsequently sold the Stickley to him.I recommend R. Spencer Antiques to anyone who wants to sell antiques. I think youll be impressed with how knowledgeable, open and honest he is.
My partner and I recently moved into Sellwood. We are avid thrifters and vintage collectors. We have been trying to find pieces for our new space when we stumbled upon R Spencer’s. This place is a treasure trove of antique goodies. The family run team is very knowledgeable about all of their pieces and the history and stories behind them. I found a beautiful Gunne Sax dress that I absolutely fell in love with. We also found an amazing print, both for VERY reasonable prices. This place is not your classic “antique” store. They had a wide variety of items from vintage radios to Japanese wood cuts to rattan furniture and vintage books and even a pitcher in the shape of a clowns head. Too many great things to name and a wide price range to boot. You will find many things you didn’t know you needed but can’t live without. Everyone in your party is sure to find something they want. Oh. And... did I mention how lovely the whole family is?! Marcia was so sweet and complimented me on my outfit. It was very wholesome to see the entire family (parents and son) working together on a Saturday. You just don’t see many places like this anymore. A literal “Mom and Pop” shop. Just go in and see for yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
We came in a few days ago looking for a table for my study. The folks in the shop were very nice and knowledgeable. We soon found a good table. The owners even helped us load the table into the car.
Lovely antique store with a wonderful selection of treasures. The prices are very reasonable. The owners, Mr. and Mrs. Spencer are delightful and Im so pleased to have found this store. I look forward to visiting again and again. I couldnt be more pleased with my beautiful china set.
Spencer’s is a Sellwood institution and a treasure of a store. Beautiful antique furniture and fine accessories for those of us who love old things whose style transcends the passage of time. A highly recommend you visit!
Beautiful selection and incredibly friendly owners! Both times I’ve been in, I’ve gone just to browse and leave absolutely smitten over a new find! Would absolutely recommend.
I have known this family for 35 years. You will not find a more reputable and knowledgeable antique dealer. Bob Spencer has the kind of appraisal skills, that can only be honed from a lifetime of buying and selling. This is a warm, family run business, that always has a large selection of beautiful antique furniture at reasonable prices. I often help friends and clients locate hard to find pieces for their decor needs. R. Spencer’s Antiques has always been a favorite of mine, while shopping in Portland. Bob Spencer has helped me with countless appraisals over the years, and I would recommend his appraisal services to my friends without hesitation. R. Spencer’s Antiques is also a great resource when you are looking to let go of your family heirlooms. I have recommended many friends looking to downsize, or liquidating a family member’s estate, and Bob has always come with honest and fair offers.
This is my favorite antique store in Portland. The owners have been in the business for over 50 years. They have a wealth of knowledge from fine antiques to your everyday vintage dishes. I always enjoy my conversations with Bob and Marcia. The best thing is you NEVER know what treasure Bob may have brought out for sale. He has a very good eye!
I highly recommend this store. The furniture is good quality and reasonably priced. The owner (Bob) is great! He is informative, friendly and knows the antique business really well. I have shopped there many times over the years and have bought numerous items - all excellent pieces. I don’t know of any other antique store in the Portland area that compares to this one. No junk here!
Great place!
Fun store! A bit of everything...lots to look at and enjoy at very reasonable prices. Robert and William are a great team and will help you find whatever youre looking for. One of the few remaining antique shops on Sellwoods Historic Antique Row. Definitely worth checking out!
Spencers Antiques in Sellwood is a wonderful place to shop. The people are awesome and the merchandise is high end . You wont be disappointed. Ive found lots of lovely treasures over the years, and I never tier of going there.
Great place with really unique finds and really helpful staff
Spencers Antiques is *the* premier place for QUALITY, unique antiques for 50 Years! I have collected amazing furniture from Spencers & also been gifted rare Thai sculpture from the shop. Highly reputable, knowledgeable, enthusiastic, great attention to detail, & fantastic customer service even at the busiest times.
I had a couple of items I wanted to have appraised... Three to be exact. I called up and the gentleman on the phone was friendly and said, Come on down. Do I need an appointment? I live a ways away. No, just come down. I get down there 20 minutes later and the woman behind the desk said it would take 45 minutes until she could see me. Another gentleman in the store says, go ahead. He just has a couple items. She said that she was taking off somewhere. I didnt necessarily mind the wait, but i had an appointment so I had to leave. I gave it a one star because of the calous indifference and refusal to be helpful, when she clearly could have been and was in fact encouraged by another in the store.
I live in St. Helen’s and didn’t want to drive out there without speaking to someone regarding their interest in purchasing a China set. I called. I sent multiple texts. I emailed them... twice. Every effort I made met to contact met with utter silence. Might be a great store but they more-than-suck at communication
Ive been shopping at R. Spencer antiques for years. They have always been very friendly, helpful and fair. I love going in to see all of the new stuff they have in stock. I would highly recommend this shop.
Mr. Spencer came to my home to appraise some of my antiques in order to consider buying them. He first saw an antique china cabinet in the garage and offered me $100.I then took him inside to look at everything else. He wrote down offers on everything and I told him I would think about it. The offers were ridiculously low. I called him, leaving a message, and told him I wasnt sure about selling anything right now other than the china cabinet. I asked him to please call me to arrange pick-up for the china cabinet. He didnt return my call after a week so I called him today and he said, Well that piece isnt spectacular and I am not interested in it if there is nothing else. He had given me a verbal contract to buy the cabinet before seeing anything else, but now was not honoring his word. I wouldnt ever want to business with someone who treated me in this fashion. This is a warning to anyone who reads the R. Spencer Antiques Buying Everything card. He may tell you he will buy a piece, but then back out.
Nice shop with a variety of antique furniture and glassware at reasonable (not bargain) prices. The owner is pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. Whenever Im in the area, I always stop in to browse just in case there is something I cant live without!
Extremely helpful team in connection with estate sale . Worked smoothly around interruptions and inconveniences associated with COVID-19. Fair and professional.
They have very reasonable prices and an AMAZING selection of furniture. A great family run business that has survived for 40 years. Willing to really talk to you, not just sell you a cheap consignment piece
Even after 40 years I am never disappointed by the many treasures that I find during my visits to Spencers-
Large selection of beautiful furniture in this store, as well as some glass, pottery, framed art and other antiques and collectibles.
I fall in love when I go in this store, so many unique items I want to take home and lovely helpful service.
Best antique store in the Portland area for estate hardwood furniture that is high quality and beautiful
Great people. Understanding, nice. Superb selection.
Call this place cuz I had some questions about some Collectibles that I have EA Armstrong sword World War II Katana and Boy Scout Boy Scout patch collection upon calling the place I was answered the phone by what sounded like an older gentleman I explained to him that I had Antiques and was wondering if you would be interested or could give me a price as to what they would be worth He said I dont know what do you have I told him what I had he then proceeded to tell me that hes too busy to even think about it right now if that was the case then why did you even ask what I had you should have just told me Im not interested and I dont have time to talk on the phone I would not shop at this place because your customer service sucks time is money Im a fellow collector and I would never ask somebody what they had and then turn around and tell him that I dont have the time to look at it and that I dont have time for them the customer
Fabulous antique store. Great reasonably priced antiques
Pleasant, knowledgeable people and reasonably priced, quality goods.
Doesnt treat teenagers with respect. Sat down and looked at records for about 2 minutes and told us to leave. Just because you think we dont have money to spend, doesnt mean you should yell at us for looking in a store
Dont think he is totally honest. Was the feeling I got
