Great coffee in the eastern stretch of Portlands Hawthorne neighborhood. The back door connects to a Powells Book Store location and customers of the book store can bring up to 3 books into the coffee shop to peruse while they have a coffee. Nice neighborly cross-promotion. Also had a really interesting art installation by a local artist on the wall when I visited.
This review is coming a from a professional barista.Every drink Ive had here so far has been excellent/ blown me away. I have nothing to complain about. They really know there stuff here and they actually take the time to make a quality product. I do not care about the speed in which the drinks are made (they are reasonably quick) but the quality of the drinks alone. They have done nothing but nail the quality of their drinks and I cannot recommend them enough. Staff is very chill and super nice. 11/10 would recommend.
Holy shirt. I think this is my new favorite coffee spot. I had the earl grey shortbread and an 8 oz honey lavender latte, and I gotta tell ya, Honey, Im sold.
Best coffee in the area for sure. Really welcoming atmosphere and staff!Coupled with Powells books, its hard to beat.
Excellent coffee, cozy digs, super friendly staff. Give Jess a raise!
Very small cups of weak coffee with high priced hipster attitude. Yea!
This place is amazing! I live about 4 blocks away and come here at least twice a week, sometimes more. Amazing coffee and even more amazing staff. Staff is super friendly and they make great coffee. I definitely recommend this place.
Iced honey lavender latte was perfect on a hot day!
Excellent coffee and beverages!
Great coffee, service
Glad I stopped here. Minutes before closing time and still a quality latte with quality customer service.
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in town so PLEASE stay away! I dont need it to be any more crowded! The art painted on the walls is rad as well as the local artist that youll see hanging up. And who doesnt like a coffee shop connected to a books store? But I think what brings me back over and over again besides the really well made coffee is the staff. Their real people vibe and obscure music selections are what I dig.
Good snacks and coffee, and a great spot to get some work done or read a book from Powells, which is right next door.
Cool spot and open later than any other coffee shop nearby, but they have TERRIBLE music playing every time I am here... play something a little more smooth so customers are not distracted while reading.
The coffee is great! Very portlandia with the server in blue lipstick with no bra. One suggestion would be to wear a tad bit longer sleeves on your shirt so the armpit hair doesnt show...or fall into the coffee maybe? Just had to mention it. I love this place though. Very cool hip place.
Great coffee here and a chill atmosphere make it a perfect Hawthorne spot to read, write, or just get caffeinated.
One of my favorite spots to take a break when cruising Hawthorne.
This was a teeny tiny place off the Hawthorne Powells. I felt very lucky to get a spot to sit at. I just had a mug of tea but it was good and warm on a rainy day. I was annoyed that the outlet next to me didnt work so it wouldnt have worked for a long time for me. But if Im around, I would stop again.
The assam black tea here is quite good, the best Ive had in portland. I give it only 3 stars bc the lighting is poor, the power outlets are hit and miss, the seating is cramped and the music can be obnoxious at times. I am willing to be exposed to discordant, alternative music but not at volume 10. I need some of my brain to think, read and write.
The chai was delicious! The seating in limited but it’s in a beautiful spot in town and literally attached to Powell’s!
Get the almond latte. My life will never be the same! Their iced coffee is good too. Its a cute little place to chill and catch up with friends.
If you like espresso, the coffee is excellent. If you like books, the decor is excellent. If you like friendly staff who dont need to discuss your whole day, the service is excellent.I came a long way looking for these things.
The coffee game is strong here, serving Stumptown. In executing drinks, Fresh Pot makes a good argument to be included among the best purveyors in the city.
Great coffee, great people!
Had two delicious iced mochas. Im not usually a mocha guy, but it was a really hot day and I wanted something besides a plain americano. Mm Mm. Savory, strong coffee flavor with the right amount of sweetness. Oasis while shopping on the street.
Great con panna! Yummy cheddar bacon scone. Ordering was like pulling teeth, though. The guy wanted nothing to do with actually interacting with me. It was like trying to make conversation with an ATM. Except he was taking my money instead of giving it to me. Slow, but worth waiting for. I brought my kid instead of a laptop. Clearly a no-no!
11-table cozy coffee shop enclosed in Powells Books on Hawthorn. The bookshop does not have places to sit and read.
The cafe is cozy and quiet, a great stop to read or hangout with a friend over a coffee. I always love coffee shops that are in book stores, and this one has a creative vibe. The coffee is great, as they serve the local favorite Stumptown coffee. I also had an iced chai and it was great. Also, the staff is friendly and personable.
Love the coffee but Im not to keen on this Powells bookstore location as there is an extreme lack of seating. Also they never seem to have enough for here cups and I have to use paper ones there or bring my own... sadface! Oh yeah and the coffee condiments area is in a really awkward place and you have to squeeze by people to get to it. Basically this location is way too small.
My 8 1/2 month pregnant wife and my mother-in-law came here today (12/13/17 5:45pm) for a coffee. My wife was tiered and sat down while they decided what to order and wait for the restroom. Let keep in mind my wife is a migrant and does not speak English fluently as of yet nor does my mother-in-law. They were told that there is no more coffee and to leave. When I drove there they had told me that the seating is for customers only that it is policy. Tell me this. How the hell would they even know if my pregnant wife and mother-in -law were not intending to buy a coffee. Also I find it horrible that they would tell a 8 1/2 month pregnant legal migrant that she is not allowed to sit while you allow vagrants to sit in for hours without any intention of buying anything. If this is the attitude of this local shop I ask everyone to not support this business. How can a business post up that all races, all genders ect.. are welcome. Ill tell you some they did not make a 8 1/2 month pregnant migrant feel welcome here not only that they told her that she is not allowed to sit, there is no more coffee, and to leave. If you claim you are for the migrants then do not support this business because this business clearly does not. Please help me share this to everyone you know.
Nothing like walking into a shop and being greeted with a smile and a very well made Cappucino. The bookstore next door creates a very calm atmosphere that is great for a short rest stop.
A cup of coffee for $2 with a free refill, the best deal in town. People watching is free, hours of entertainment.
I have been coming to fresh pot for close to 20 years. I have always found it a friendly and relaxed spot to have excellent coffee, have a local pastry, and chat with the baristas.
Hamilton is the best, made a great caramel macchiato
Simple no frills coffee shop with good coffee and tea selection. Quiet and spacious, inside powels Bookstore, friendly barista. Usually crowded because of location, although not terribly
I always enjoy going to the Fresh Pot. Sometimes I cant find a seat immediately but once I do Im set. I can read any book for free as long as I keep it clean, the coffee and snacks are great and the service is good
Very friendly & Down to EarthThese coffees tastes so amazing. Highly Recommended!!!
Great coffee and cute atmosphere. Service is hit or miss, but usually a hit. : )
Never had a problem here. Maybe one small one but nothing to keep me from returning. Staff usually laid back and not loud. I like that.
Whats not to love? Great coffee, friendly service, inside a bookstore. Good art, too.
Delicious coffee and wonderful staff.
The coffee is caffeinated. They have been surprisingly tolerant of my husband, who will buy a drip coffee and read an entire book here.
Love this little cafe inside of Powells. Spent many a day here getting work done or reading. They serve good drinks. I take a pass on the food, though.Fresh Pot isnt a very big cafe, so sometimes all the seats are taken if its an afternoon or a weekend. No problem. Just pop into Powells for a few minutes, peruse some books, and come back. Youll find a seat. The serve Stumptown coffee, including the Nitro! Which I try to get excited about but cant since Im not a coffee person. However, other coffee lovers love this.I like their tea selection and theyll give you another jolt of hot water for free, which I appreciate. The only thing I dont like is that food. the pastries never taste as good as they look. And heaven forbid you order something that needs preparation, like a bagel. they will toast it until its hard and then not even spread the butter or cream cheese for you. So disappointing. There are tables and chairs and a bench, none of which are ultra comfortable but serviceable enough. Plenty of plus and outlets for everyone. And free Wi-Fi.The staff is pleasant, the people who come here tend to be great, and its in a bookstore!
My husband and I visited this coffee shop on Monday 3/3/14 while shopping on Hawthorne, the Barista was so unfriendly it made the whole experience very disappointing. While in line trying to decide what to order the man making coffee was very engrossed in a personal conversation he was having with a lady in front of us so he seemed very friendly until he waited on us and there was absolutely no conversation, NO smile and no customer service at all! I have been a Barista for about 4 years and I know that serving coffee is customer service on steroids because you are giving someone there happiness for the day or in this experience sadness for the day, I ended up throwing the Americano away because it left a very bad taste in my mouth. You might think about training your staff on customer service...
Perfect for raining afternoons. Specially if you score a seat by the window.
Fresh pot is so classic.
Friendly staff, excellent coffee. great cappuccino!
Ive said it before--this coffee shop is not really out of the ordinary in Portland. They serve Stumptown coffee and GF pastries with a small side of tude to the beat of indie-eclectic music--nothing new there, but they really take the time to brew coffee right, whether you want Chemex, a pour over, or just a French Press to share. If I had to pick a favorite coffee shop in Portland, Fresh Pot might just top the list (though, still, I could do without the tude...).
Great staff, coffee & vibe. Its Portland version of what a coffeehouse should be
Worst dispensary EVER! My weed tasted like amazing coffee.
Really good loose leaf tea.
Nice coffee shop, great for working/reading.
Great coffee and atmosphere
Good Joe, fine tunes
The best coffee in SE. Hands down.
Great coffee :-)
Quality service, but the Coffee can be a little watered down depending on who is working.
Great for a good cup!
