We’ve tried shopping here several times. Good luck getting any of their dozen or so employees to even acknowledge your presence let alone answer any questions. Must I beg you to take my money? Shockingly rude!
Super sad they dont have weekend hours. I completely respect that they want to give their employees family time, and offer free delivery, but working 5.5 days a week does not allot for us to shop any other time for our house needs. I want to see, and feel products, not just look at a magazine (which they gave us several and I appreciate). Just wondering why they couldnt consider some part time Saturday afternoon employees (different from their weekly employees) even until 2 / 3 p.m.?!?!? They dont need to be experts and can even refer customers to whomever that may be during a week day. It would just be nice to be able to browse and Look at the product. Its just sad that I have to now shop big box stores. Didnt come here to bash the company as I have never personally purchased anything from there as of yet, I just was hoping to make a recommendation.
I needed to order materials. Everything was reasonably priced and came in early.
Great customer serviceNo nonsense
STAY AWAY. Not a single of the 20+ employees wearing a mask. Even though they have signs everywhere. When I asked about it they said I could take mine off. Dont risk your life for cheap cabinets.
I walked in, said to the guy behind the counter that according to a manufacturer that they could help me out with new hinges for my house, he took about 5 minutes and checked his inventory and had to order them, told me the price and I had to ask him if he was serious, he said he was and I realized that I should have started with Hammond in the first place. Very good customer service by Matthew at their Portland location on Riverside St.
Sales team is more way more concerned about there lunch than selling you a house. Don’t waste you time.
Great customer service. The sales rep Scott was/is Always willing to answer a question or help out someone with much less experience such as myself
Building a small shed, Hammond Lumber was very helpful! The salesman was able to walk me through everything that I was going to need. My first delivery went out in just a few hours! This place is amazing, wouldnt think of going anywhere else! Thank you!
I sent an email inquiry and John gave me a call back as soon as they opened. He talked me through my project and gave me suggestions on where to find the dimensional lumber I was looking for.Great service! Thank you!
Our contractor James Massciovecchio & Herbert McGilvray ordered a 5 ft window for our extension room project at Hammond Lumber Company last March 2, 2020. It is now close to six (6) months, and Hammond Lumber Company hasn’t fulfilled our order. The first delivery was April 24, 2020, and the window delivered was damaged and not acceptable. They delivered the replacement on May 19, 2020, and still, the window delivered came in as damaged and not acceptable. The third replacement delivery came in July 23, 2020 and then again, it was damaged and not acceptable. The failure on Hammond’s part to fulfill our order causes an enormous delay in our project, stress, and unnecessary anxiety. It is now close to six (6) months and we are still waiting for Hammond Lumber Company to fulfill our order. This is getting ridiculous!
I own an older boat lift and thought I might need to bite the bullet and get a new one. Dan was great on walking me through what was needed and it turns out with a couple upgrades my lift is as good as new (actually better!) Saved thousands and delivery was included. Great experience.
I have been to Hammond Lumber in Portland, Maine several times these past few years to select a boat lift, new dock, and additions to the new dock the following summer. Dan has been very helpful on each and every visit and has guided me wisely through all the available options. I give Hammond Lumber in Portland, Maine SIX STARS for service and prompt delivery! There is no need to shop elsewhere!
Highly recommend to work with Mrs. Sarah Tanguay from Hammond Lumber. She is friendly, kind, helpful, and professional.
Very helpful kitchen designers. The 3D renderings helped me visualize how my new kitchen would come together which made me feel confident in my choices before the project started. Also helped me find a contractor!
Thanks for your help on my order. Product is exactly what I was looking for. Was left neatly in the garage as requested, and the wife said your driver was very professional as well, despite the extremely cold temps.Next time, I think I’ll pay the extra for the 8’ lengths – those big ones are tough to negotiate into the basement! Working out well though. Thanks again! Thanks,Ed C.
The service was great. Very helpful.
Hammond has or can get most of the things a builder needs, their prices are usually comparable to big orange and blue... often better - they have same day delivery, and actual sales staff that know what their selling. The only downside is their hours... I can rarely get there except on a Saturday because they open at 7 and close at 5 which is my work day. 6-6 and Id give 5 stars.
Hammond lumber has been a huge help and resource as we build our forever home. Our salesperson spent countless hours helping us make all the right decisions and has been extremely patient (even when I change my mind a few times!) Exceptional customer service... we wouldn’t go anywhere else.
My husband and I had the pleasure of working with Hammond Lumber on a renovation. The renovation was a challenge, however, working with Hammond was a dream. The level of service provided by Marc Ducharme was exceptional! His knowledge and expertise made the experience enjoyable.Although Hammond partners with excellent manufactures, their dedicated staff make all the difference in the world! Its what separates Hammond from everyone else. Keep up the good work! We are customers for life!
This place is absolutely useless, overpriced and customer service awful, I was standing there for 45 minutes without any help whatsoeverPlus nobody wearing face masks, totally unprofessional and unsafe
I am on an island off coast of Portland, Maine. Sales people are very knowledgeable. They have free delivery to ferry and respond quickly to email orders. “Swinging by the lumber yard” is not an option for me and they deal with last minute email changes to delivery orders with “ok” or “all set”. Highly recommend if you are an Island builder.
Hammond Lumber should be ashamed of their lack luster response to this national pandemic! Keeping their stores open and not following the recommendation of no groups larger than 10 people is dangerous for their employees and for the state of Maine. I have been to many Hammond locations all over that state and there are always more than 10 employees working not including customers! Putting profits and customer needs above employee safety really shows what Hammond actually cares about. If Hammond really cared about the safety of their employees and customers they should close stores in high risk areas and send employees who are in the high risk category home. Do the right thing Hammond Lumber!
I have called them twice and didnt get much help but management stepped in and got it done. Not looking for perfect just an honest effort. Thanks for making it right Dan H
Amazing place! I was rehabbing a home in Maine and happened to check out this place and was glad I did. They had everything I needed and the stuff I forgot they delivered to me the same day. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. If I am ever doing another project in their service area they will be the first call I make! Thanks guys!
My wife and I were looking to build a chicken coop- something fairly basic, but we dont own a truck or large trailer so we figured a kit or just raw materials would be best, and to build it on site. I called the main Hammond phone number and spoke with someone who was less than helpful- just short one word answers in the negative, and when I asked about storage sheds he said they have them but would only deliver 10 miles from the store (striking distance?) and they would not help position it, rather just slide it off the truck. I always consider shopping locally first, but in this case I wont bother with Hammond. Hancock Lumber at least asked me to come in and talk with two specific people, which is a step in the right direction.
Started rebuilding my house we bought months ago from the ground up. Ended up buying pine from Hancock Lumber, a local dealer who i had a great experience with but this time i ended up trying Hammond Lumber for windows and siding. Worked with Stash, and inside sales guy who said to me, we might be a little more but you get me as an expert. He came out and measured windows and siding for me and it started off all good. Come to realize it wasnt, he asked if i could remeasure the windows he had measured to make sure they were ok because once i order them i cant return them. Comes out that his measurement were all wrong, 42 he put as 42 which would have given me all wrong inventory which wouldnt have fit the space. we got that figured out but i didnt check the slider door opening which i specifically said needed to open a certain way. well, i got the wrong door, $1800 dollar door and just got the word from Stash that i have to buy a $150 base plate, and fix the door myself. Also had him quote me a $14K siding job that i just called Hancock to come out and do. Figured if the expert I was paying more too, (his words not mine) was wrong on a sliding door then what would i be getting for un-returnable siding. Hancock lumber, local and Andrew from Windham is a good guy who knows what hes talking about.
I think perhaps my expectations were a little off from reality when I ordered materials for rebuilding my deck through Hammond. I thought that perhaps the quality of materials I would be getting would surpass that of going to a big box store. When obtaining my quotes and placing my order it was clear I was building a deck. I wonder why then I received lumber that was no better quality than if I had gone to a big box store.I can understand some minor warping and cupping, but some boards were heavily gouged, and some were so badly cupped I cant even reasonably use them. I cant imagine supplying this lackluster wood to customers. I cant imagine being responsible for picking out wood for a customer, and giving them pieces that were as bad as some of the ones I received.I suppose its a myth that buying locally through a lumber yard nets you better quality materials. I should have just spent a few hours picking through the wood myself at a big box store and saved myself some money in the process.
Very friendly and helpful. Unlike other bathrooms stores that did have time to talk to me. Only thing that could be better is more product to look at.
Not a great experience. Been here twice.. The first time I was met with a very helpful associate who helped point me to the right types of fasteners and tension braces for a wrap around deck ledger.. The second time in Im looking for skewed joist hangers. The associate was trying to locate them in the book and explained that they were universal not left and right. I said no those arent the ones.. the ones I need are for hanging floor joists to both sides of a herring bone on a wrap around.. They make left skewed and right skewed. I told him that Home Depot carries them and that I had a sku number he said well Home Depot is across the street. After he was still looking for them in the book I said here I have a picture and a sky number . He said yeah I have it right here too with a rude tone.. I thanked him and said Im just gonna go order them at Home Depot then... 2 stars because the first time I visited the store the associate was very professional and courteous..
They sell good quality lumber at a good price. They will load it onto your truck at the warehouse. Very helpful sales staff. The variety of wood building materials is far greater than what is found at the big box stores. I would recommend them.
Hammond lumber has the best customer service. Dan goes the extra mile for each and every one of his customers. I will only ever go to Hammond lumber because of Dan.
I’m so disappointed this place is closed by noon(?!)on a Saturday and closed on Sundays?! As a new home owner with only weekends to shop for lumber and doors, I can’t believe this. We’re now headed to the big box national chains:/
I have been dealing with Dan at Hammond Lumber for the past 5 years. I started with a few sections of dock and since have added a boat lift, pwc lift, additional sections and other accessories. Dan always responded promptly and always steered me in the right direction. I have been very happy dealing with Dan and Hammond Lumber and continue to in the future.
Lumber yard is a nightmare. Materials are junk and they dont care!!
I recently went to Hammond Lumber with a friend who just bought his first house and is in the process of fixing it up to his liking. The main thing we were looking at was a new front door and a storm door. While I have extensive experience in this general area, I have never gone through the entire process of buying a new front door to finish, so we had a few questions and things we were unsure of.In pretty much every other supply store of this type I have ever been in, the staff have been very helpful and happy to assist or answer questions. I was extremely disappointed to find that 3 of the 4 staff we interacted with were less than helpful, bordering on unpleasant. The first employee that we spoke with, (sitting under the customer service sign and the first one we found that did not appear to be in the middle of something), seemed very irritated that we had bothered him and was very abrupt. He told us we needed to speak with someone else, and gave us a name while pointing to a row of 3 guys. When I asked which of the guys it was, he said something to the effect of go up there and figure out which one is not busy. At this point we considered leaving, but figured this would be a one off experience. When we found one of the guys that looked available at the next desk, he seemed very disinterested in helping. We told him we were looking for the price of one of the doors in the display and gave him the code number that was on the door. He said the codes dont match up to the way he looks it up, but rather than offering to come over and look a the door with us or offering any other helpful assistance, we went over and got the information he needed ourselves. He had a few other questions we were unsure of exactly what he was referring to. Instead of being helpful and explaining what he was talking about as we were very obviously unsure of exactly what he was talking about, he just looked at us with a very annoyed look and offered no further information. We were finally able to figure out the information he was looking for and get a quote for the door we needed.I will say that the price was okay for the door, and over the course of this, we did manage to get some information we were unaware of before. However, the experience was definitely negative overall and I was very disappointed with the customer service. After looking at the doors, we stopped in the kitchen section. Again, we had some questions, and the first lady we approached at the kitchen counter looked at us like we each had 2 heads when my friend brought up a sample of a product they were selling and asked for pricing for it. She seemed to have no idea what we were talking about even though we had the store sample in our hands and were showing it to her. Again, rather than giving good customer service and talking pleasantly and trying to understand what it was that we were asking for, (we literally just asked what the cost per square foot for that sample was!), it was basically just blank stares and making us feel like we were idiots that were bothering her. Finally, the only good experience of our time in the store, another gentleman came over and took over from the lady. Unfortunately, I did not get his name. He was patient, explained the pricing for the sample we were looking at, and then walked around the kitchen displays with us giving pricing for different options as well as explaining the pros and cons of each. He gave us reasons why some of the ideas we were looking at may not work or would make the project more difficult and took the time to give us alternate ideas that my friend loved. If it was not for this man, neither of us would consider stepping foot in the store again and the rating would have been 1 star instead of 2.We will be looking at all of our other options before we go back to Hammond Lumber. If not for the last guy in the kitchen department, we both agreed we would happily pay more to buy the same product somewhere else rather than going back...
Always prompt on everything I need with fast deliveries!
Very helpful staff, quality products and timely deliveries.
Outstanding personnel exceptionally high quality products just a general great experience working with these people
Great selection, decent prices for a bigger hardware store, unfortunately customer service was a bit on the rough side my last visit, normally dont have a problem but this time people seemed annoyed to have to actually help a customer find the right product, and when sent to the lumber yard, the employees didnt know what we were looking for even after giving the purchase slip to them and then tried loading not only the wrong type of wood but also damaged, and when we brought it to their attention we heard one employee tell another one that it wasnt his job and literally left us standing their for a good while wondering if we had been ditched.
Im not really impressed submitted my plan and had to rework theyre revisions after i was told i was out of my revisions? Dont know Payed $400 dollar deposit . Preliminary plan poured the foundation than they decided move the carrying beam over 4 feet after the foundation and floor was poured oops to late. I purchased floor trusses on the second floor to correct that error. I just contacted my representative for roofing doors and Windows requesting grids on the doors and Windows and was told that they were ordered without grids and once they were ordered they couldnt b changed. With labor on site I guess Ill have to take it as it is. Im just going to take this last delivery find out how of my deposit I can recoup and chalk it up to experience. Wasnt trying to cheap out this little building but I feel they did and I payed full price. The delivery was a positive experience.
As a general contractor Hammond Lumber Company in Portland is where I purchase all of my materials. Gary is always extremely helpful and makes things run smooth so I can continue to my clients projects timely.
Awesome service and selection. You can get anything to build with there!
Prompt deliveries from courteous drivers.
I rarely complain about places, but I just had a horrible experience at Hammond Lumber Company. Ill bore you:I walked in 15 minutes before closing to buy moulding, and despite making my decision quickly, was rushed by every sales person I encountered (except for the saleswoman at the cashier). One guy, with coat in hand, said he was leaving and passed me on to another guy who sighed and rolled his eyes. He quickly wrote the order - putting me in as a cash sale since were closing. Then to the warehouse where a guy explained they were out of what I just bought and then was hugely annoyed that I wanted a refund since I would have had to buy moulding lengths that I didnt want.Oh, and I made the mistake of correcting the warehouse guy when he said the office didnt call down to check stock. Oh, but they did. I know because I was standing right beside the guy when he called.
Nice hardworking people!
Great place. Friendly staff.
At first there was some confusion on how appointments should be set up from their website; a sales person was confused when I stopped by, but when I went in on that next day, Bonnie was helpful, professional, and knowledgeable.
Great service and price
Horrible customer service...i had to chase them down for everything.....i tried to buy local...will never recommend...left and went with a big box store for my kitchen...perfect and professional
Vickie was extremely helpful and polite
We bought our kitchen and bathroom cabinets and wished the representative would have made recommendations or suggestions.
