My adult son and I went to the nursery today. I have been here many times, but this time I just wanted to stroll the property and check out the gorgeous houseplants. I didn’t purchase anything on this trip, but we did stop for Cocktail Hour! We each had a drink, and shared the mushroom tart for a snack. It was amazing, and our server Chris was super friendly! Please don’t stop the Cocktail Hour! I loved hanging out in the garden and having a treat🪴🍸
This is the best nursery I have ever been too. The plants are all beautiful and the selection is fantastic. Very healthy plants! The staff is amazing and very helpful. The view is beautiful and very pleasant to walk around on a beautiful day. They also have the cutest chickens ever!!!
I love this place, but the last brunch experience was not a good one.We were told we had to wait for 1.5 h to get a table, and we were ok with that.We got our table after 1h45 min, but our food came more than one hour later after ordering. They forgot about our order, and when we received it, it was not the right one.We arrived at 11, and we got our food on the table at 1.48 pm. we got the wrong order, and one of the people at our table didnt even get any food. We had to remind them a third time about a dish we ordered and they didn’t bring. Ah, and the place was preparing to close at 2 pm, so we ate while they cleaned out the space. We were mainly disappointed because of how the situation was handle. The attitude we got from one of the people working there for asking why our food is not coming was not a nice one.I love this place, but I won’t go there for brunch anymore.
Its a lovely farm with a massive selection of plants. When you drive in, it might seem small but its beautifully spread out over a much larger area. We went on a nice sunny weekday in February and it was filled with people. There was still ample parking, split into different sections. The collection of plants is also spread across different sections- shady plants, indoor plants, vegetable garden etc. Youll keep coming across unique little adornments everywhere- wreaths, trellises, garden sculptures. Its very tempting to buy a lot here! But the prices are relatively higher and I can see why. They seem to have put a lot of love and care and attention and it shows. The cafe was very charming too! Just a delight, all the way around.
Great cafe but you will be in line with all the other trendy brunch trolls. This is the hot new brunch spot in town. You think Im joking. Im not. I promise you will be in line.
This place has a large selection of many beautiful plants that grow well in the Pacific Northwest. There is a little shop and a cafe. Its also locally/family owned. My husband and I try to get as many of our plants here as we can.
An amazing garden and yard Market, with a wonderful restaurant as well. Some of the foliage and the trees there are absolutely stunning, this is like a museum to walk through, and many of the items are for sale, of course. Amazing knowledgeable people, great food, and an awesome place to visit year-round, as well as at Christmas time, when it is decorated beautifully! I would suggest that anyone and everyone try to visit this business. I assure you, youll be glad you did! Enjoy!
This is the cutest and most magical feeling nursery/farm Ive been to in Portland. I felt like I was in The Hobbit or something. Love the plant options! Note that prices are higher than other plant places.
Proclaims giving “planet friendly” advice then only sells soil containing peat moss (ecologically unsound)… 🙄
Going here to get plants for my works office was a great experience; Ren was super helpful and knowledgeable about what may work best in our office and was a lovely person all around. When I told the staff I worked at a care facility, they mentioned a potential growing project to do with our residents- That tiny bit of thoughtfulness was very kind and I appreciated it a lot given how those home bound right now are so much in need of those little joys.I also really appreciated the fact they enforce masks indoors and outdoors, regardless of vaccination status. As someone who is around the elderly and even is vaccinated, the knowledge that I or others like me may be a carrier is ever on my mind. Masks are the best defense from contracting and spreading covid and places that enforce science forward policies show a caring not just of their customers but their staff as well. I will most likely return for my own personal plant purchase as well as future plant needs for my workplace should they be required.
We really enjoy the nursery. They have high quality plants, shrubs, and fruit trees. Typically, they are our first choice for nursery supplies and plants. However, getting them to answer the phone is crazy difficult. I spoke with the cashier about a special order, and she gave me the phone number for the manager to call him back. His number is the general phone tree number. The message even states they wont guarantee to call you back. After making a dozen attempts to speak with someone at various times throughout the day and week, I have given up.
It took 90 minutes to get a table for a brunch on Sunday and when we finally sit they forgot our order. It took 45 minutes to bring a salad. I arrived 11 am for brunch and left 3 pm...
This is the best nursery in the entire Portland metro area! Honestly! First, the nursery stock is the finest in town: fresh, very healthy, and constantly being updated. Secondly, the staff is very, very knowledgeable about all the items for sale. And theyre very friendly too, willing to stop and answer any questions. And, thirdly, the selection is much larger than meets you eye. And lastly, Cornell Farms nursery is the most pleasant and fun one to visit that weve ever encountered. Its not at all like the big box nurseries (Als Gardens, Fred Meyers, Home Depot, etc). Its laid out for the casual garden walker with curved gravel pathways, shade trees, indoor or outdoor stock. They have a staff that is solely charged with making the nursery pleasant and artistic. Its a real treat to walk around the very large nursery. One more point: one of the large buildings contains a large selection of gift items that meet the seasonal and holiday needs, needs that go beyond just garden and nursery supplies. Also, these folks have a tremendous succulent supply, with some of the most artistic displays of various succulents. My wife and I go to Cornell Farm first when its time to find a gift for a dear friend. To sum up: you are never disappointed when visiting Cornell Farm Nursery. Also, be sure to drop by their wonderful cafe to relax in the beautiful scenery.
Excellent breakfast. Everything was perfection! So fun to walk around the nursery and shop for plants and yard art.
Id visit the nursery, but not sure cocktail hour is something Id go back to. The sope was delicious but overall, so many other options that are open. I think its a beautiful ambience for brunch or coffee! Need to give it another try.
This place is awesome. They helped me find some incredible house plants to get started with, and every time I need help or have any questions they are right there. Whether by phone or email, these people have been so much help on my gardening journey, and friendly every step of the way. Thank you for your help and kindness
Purchased a tree online while literally standing in front of it as an associate said it was easier to arrange delivery that way. Got a call the next day that they sold the tree Id already purchased. Cute place, incompetent staff.
The cafe states it takes reservations online, it does not! We went there and specifically asked for a outdoor covid safer table, we were told no problem it would be a 40 min. wait. We waited for over an hour only to be told we couldn’t have an outdoor table they were all taken. The reservations gal should not be in customer service, she was short with us, rude, clearly misinformed and constantly harping at people to move. We finally ended up getting takeout, all agreeing that the food was overpriced and not worth the effort.
We discovered one of the best farms in the area with quality shrubs, trees, fruits and very nice people (we spoke to Cynthia) with practical knowledge.
Good food and amazing atmosphere at the cafe! 100% recommend
This place has great brunch food for a weekend treat. Their food is fresh and delicious. They also have pastries and drinks that can be taken out. I will continue to come back and support this business.I had an in-dining experience in their back area which was covered and heated. My compliment is the wait time. I waited close to 50 minutes to get a table. I went in on a weekend around 9am. The nursery is right next to it so we walked around the property until we were called. They will text you when your table is ready which is convenient.Good experience and taking guidelines seriously.
I came here 2 weeks ago to get plants and some planter boxes. I was so pleased at the huge selection! The prices are good for plants, but the planter boxes are extremely expensive. You can buy the same ones at Home depot for about 1/3 of the price. Love the selection though, and will be back!
You pay extra for it being cute... but it is cute. Selection of native plants is pretty good, but tucked away. I had to get directions to find them. Parking was pretty rough at midday on a Sunday.
I have lived in some of the wealthiest places in the U.S., and no this simulacrum of a city hewn out of a dank forest isnt one of them, though they may think so. As for Cornell Farm its a nice place to visit with a knowledgeable staff, but that does not excuse the exorbitant prices. Charging these prices doesnt mean you have arrived, but usually just the opposite you are an arriviste probably the clientele to whom they are attracting. Since I took the bus I bought a little something and skipped the café assuming they didnt like old money.
I love this place. We’ve lived nearby for years and always find a new treasure here. The staff is very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. The selection is fantastic and the have a wonderful selection of decor/gifts inside. Their cafe is also super cute and the food is good. You can also go feed their chickens (always a win).
I went to Cornell Farms Nursery today to buy some plants. I did not wear a mask because I have been vaccinated. When I got to the register I was told I had to wear a mask or they couldnt serve me. I left. I doubt that I will return. This is an outdoors facility and theres no reason to wear a mask outside if you have been vaccinated. I offered my vaccination card. This is nuts!
Awesome place to go year-round! Huge variety of plants and a great place for gift ideas. Cute cafe on site as well. A bit pricey in comparison to other nurseries in the Portland area but still one of my favorites!
Loved it! So many cool plants, and the Cafe was adorable. They let us bring our dog into the houseplant area, which was nice. Definitely going to be returning!
We move from the Northeast and purchased in excess of $1200 in indoor trees and plants recently at Cornell Farms, the staff seemed knowledgeable, we followed directions for watering and sunlight after the delivery. Unfortunately after less than two months, one plant died, two trees are doing very poorly. The issue seems to result from the low sunlight issues in the Portland area this time of year, which the staff failed to mention. When we revisited to show pictures and leaf samples we were informed that there return policy is 7 days. For a high quality store that came recommended, it would not appear that they stand behind their information provided and shrubs they sell. The correct answer would have been to caution us on buying some of their very sunlight sensitive trees and plants at this time of the year and based on the misunderstanding should have offered to replace the one $40/plant that died as a good faith gesture as well as a discount on replacement of trees that are likely not going to make it. Suppose repeat business is not a concern for Cornell Farms.
This is my second time eating brunch at Cornell Farms, and both experiences have been wonderful. In regard to Covid safety, there is ALOT of space on between tables and there are outdoor seating options (with a tent and heaters). The wait was long, but well worth it and walking the grounds and visiting the chickens makes the time go by very quickly. We ordered the frittata, heuvos rancheros, huaraches, and loaded potatoes. The food was delicious. I can’t wait to go again.
Fantastic selection of unusual evergreens and Japanese maples. The employees are great. Obviously youll pay more than you would at Home Depot, but youll also get better trees. Why try to save $40 on something that will be in your front yard for the rest of your life? Consider yourself lucky to live somewhere where almost anything will grow. Treat yourself to the best.
What a great place! I love the houseplant area. They have a great selection. A little pricey on some items, but they have a lot of plants that you can’t find at big box stores. And they are plant experts. The café has amazing pastries! At last go look around and treat yourself to a ricotta pepper cheese pastry...
Parking lot is terrible, not worth the stress and time in my personal opinion. Felt like a maze getting in and out.
Always a pleasurable experience! Pricey but the quality is worth it!
This is a beautiful property and if nothing else, its fun to walk around on a nice day to look at all the plants and grab a cup of coffee. However beware if youre coming here to purchase indoor house plants! A few days ago I purchased a few new plants and this morning I discovered mealybugs on one of the plants along with a small colony of spider mites! I put this plant in a sunroom with 20+ other plants and Im incredibly upset to find this infestation. Part of the blame is genuinely on me because I didnt expect a nursery like Cornell Farm to have pests on their greenhouse plants, so my once-over on each plant before I bought it wasnt very thorough. Luckily Im pretty good with plants and dealing with pests but this is going to be a headache for the next month making sure they dont spread to my other plants :(
Such a pleasure to work with Cornell Farm. I had a beautiful tree delivered. Definitely recommending to others!
They have a nice place and nice plants, garden accessories, etc. High prices. But thats the neighborhood. My reason for the 1-star rating is they are really over-zealous about the Covid-19 restrictions while youre here. And the people working here are just plain rude about it. I went to Als Garden Center the other day and they have stuff in place to keep people away from one another too. But for the entire hour while I was there nobody ever pushed me away, confronted me, or was rude to me. Everyone was super nice and helpful there. These guys should go tour that facility and take notes on how to keep people safe, but in a positive and not aggressive way.Last time Ill shop here. 👎
Fabulous selection and beautifully displayed.
I had a great time here. I came with questions after having a bad experience with a competitor yesterday. Andrew I think (self described soil composition nerd and former edible landscaper) not only answered my questions, he took the time to learn about my setup and gave me some exciting suggestions. Ill be back!
They have everything! Unfortunately youll need to get a second mortgage on your house to afford anything.
A treasure of gardening delights! Friendly staff and all the accessories you could need for your next gardening adventure.
Something for everyone!
Visiting from MT and had a lovely experience here. The brunch was excellent and the atmosphere was inviting and friendly. Very quaint dining area with homemade pastries. Did not walk around greenhouses or outside garden areas asnit was raining, but this place is a beautiful little gem in the heart of suburbia.
Best tomato cage by EZ. Strong, will not rust, tall, folds flat to hang in winter. Paid Cornells high price, but this was sold out online & no gages of any sort at the 3 retailers I checked close by. I am thrilled with this product!
We bought seeds and some starters and a bag of soil which we paid ahead of time, I was dressed cute but super casual, as we carried our soil to our car this lady insisted in seeing our receipt, we saw an older properly outfitted gentleman do the same without question. Very bad form Cornell Farm, very bad form!!! We are returning it.
Ethereal Notes Oxygen Permeates This Beautiful Place🌸🍃🌿🍃🌸
Amazing for Christmas tree delivery. Very professional and the trees are always perfect.
Recently I found a good selection of fall vegetable starts and native plants.
Please note, they charge a potting fee of $25 per plant. Doesnt matter if you bought the plant AND the pot there. They will charge you to put the plant in the pot, which is more than the plant and pot that I wanted combined. Also, I asked to have them hold two plants behind the counter for me while I picked a pot out for a third plant. When I came back 10 min later my plants disappeared. Having given up at this point, I put all my items back. I give them two stars because they do have a HUGE selection. Also the coffee shop there is SO GOOD. Just a heads up to other plant lovers hammer+vine and Appetite in Portland will plant anything for you for no additional charge!
Beautiful huge selection!
They have the best selection and can answer any question.
Great place, great selection, knowledge staff. Highly recommend.
Very beautiful place but outrageously expensive!!! Sought out the Snake Plant an indoor friendly plant and their large was $198!!!! The smaller version was $86. We ended up going to home depot and getting the same plant for $35
Wonderful place, smiling and pleasant staff.Great selection of items and easy access to what youre looking for.I received help from a very nice lady named Vivian. She gave me several recommendations and tips for traveling with plants. She was very patient and kind, I would give her 5 stars and a thumbs up
Had a wonderful day coming to Cornell Farms for the first time. I picked up a few small plants and really want to give it a go, I told Jessica I’m not to educated in plants and she really went over how to water my plants and what to look for in the soil. Not only that if I have problems with growing my plants to call them to help me make sure I’m giving my plants the best life. I loved how excited she was for me and how well educated she was about all the plants. She made the experience so much fun for me. I will be back for sure for more plants! Thank you for a wonderful time at Cornell Farm!
I drove 45 minutes to get a specific rose that was in stock and available to purchase on their website. I tried calling to confirm it was available yesterday and again this morning before I headed out. But unfortunately, they can’t (won’t) take phone calls because “they are really busy”. So I get there and can’t find it, ask for assistance, no one can find it. It’s not there. They offer to find me one like it and I agree, but note that it’s a near thornless bush, and when I explained that I have kids and pets and specifically wanted a thornless bush, she suggested I just get a regular one and the kids can learn a life lesson instead? Um pass. When I explained how frustrating it was that their website said it was in stock when it wasn’t, and that they are impossible to reach to confirm, they just nodded and agreed that it was frustrating. Wow. Thanks guys for all the help.
Really crazy how they treat people.
Honestly I was just blown away by this nursery. They have an incredible abundance of indoor plants (and outdoor too, but it was too cold to check them out) and many of them look so perfect I thought they were fake. I was extremely happy to find lots of small tropical houseplants for my terrariums, it can be hard to find good plants for them in Portland area. The staff members were also knowledgeable, friendly, and helpful.
I’d like to start off by saying that we are regular customers here and have always loved this place PRE-COVID. Every time we have family or friends from out of town we take them here. My husband’s mom, great-aunt, and my grandmother so we took them here today for coffee.Terrible experience with extremely rude customer service! They have taken covid measures to an extreme with a very aggressive and rude attitude. There are many places keeping customers safe the right way, and this place is not one of them! All 3 family members are older aged and cannot walk easily, they park in the accessibility spot legally. We were turned away from the only ramp to enter the cafe because of covid policies they have where you can only enter one way. So they forced my elderly family members and my husband and I with our 5 week old baby in a stroller to walk around to the other side of the property and up a bunch of steps! The ramp was empty and nobody was even using it!My in-laws go in and order coffee, then proceed to look at some mugs they wanted to buy as souvenir. The baristas then rudely kicked them out of the cafe because they had another customer waiting outside to come in. My mother-in-law said that they were about to buy a mug and they just lost a sale. The two baristas then turned to look at each other and LAUGHED! When is that ever ok!?This place might’ve been amazing before coronavirus but steer clear of it now! Terrible terrible service with no respect for the elderly or people with disabilities.
Its a wonderful nursery with a café that has a beautiful view. Very nice place to shop for plants and relax with a coffee and get a snack. The only drawback is that their prices are a little high.
A wonderland of plants!
As a native Portlander, Ill just say that this place rocks. Has an incredible variety on a historic Portland property. You can still feel old Portland there. Plus there is an on-site cafe there with killer baked goods and pretty good breakfasts.Took my mom there who knows about local nurseries, and she says its the best one shes been to!
Such a gem of a nursery, poised on a hilltop in a surprising location. Excellent plant selection, very nicely laid out. I’m a nursery “snob”, and this place was a very happy and pleasing find!! And if you get hungry, a quaint little bistro inside the vintage farmhouse. This is much like the nursery I always dreamt I would love to make!
This place is fantastic and I love going there on the weekends and eating at their little cafe. The staff is friendly and the food is delicious. The pricing for their nursery items are really high so I very rarely buy anything, but just going to the cafe is worth the trip.
Recent visit found that they have yet again moved Native plants, and what a sad area it is! Ground cover (eg sedum) not there. No staff to be found in the area. Apparently we are not all interested in saving native bees and birds...Weekends are busy there! Plenty of parking. Plenty of variety in all others: garden fruits and vegetables, flowering plants, ornamentals, trees. Good advice available, if you can find a staff member.
Lovely place. Big issue with their tomato plants. This is a great nursery. Nice layout with a great assortment of plants and helpful staff. A little more expensive than other, but not bad given the convenient location. Also has a nice coffee shop on site which is great to visit. They do a lot of things right.But... I grow tomatoes every year. Other than slugs I dont really have pest issues with my tomatoes. Ive purchased tomato plants from this place twice. Once 3 years ago and this year. Both times the plants I purchased from them have been infested with tomato psyllid insects. Theyre hard to see but the effect of them is not subtle.I was willing to overlook this the first time it happened. Maybe they got a bad batch from a supplier. It can happen. But twice? Theyre either unaware of it or havent bothered to do with it. Both time Ive had to rip out the infected plants to ensure my other healthy plants dont get infested. This is just unacceptable.Im not happy to have wasted money on these plants. The much bigger issue for me is not having the tomatoes I expected to.Cornell Farm, please get your act together on the insect infestation with your tomato plants. Once I can overlook. Twice in 4 years I cant.
I picked up a plant I had paid for on their website. Very easy and pleasant.
Just a note, I work here- I may be biased. But I do really like this business, and as a shopper at other businesses I sometimes wonder if the staff are treated well, and at Cornell Farms I can assure you that they are. There are two (sometimes three!) generations of family on the premises. This property has been owned by the same family and has been a farm of some sort for four generations. The product here is diverse, lots of interesting items that are not found at other nurseries in the area. The property is huge and you can spend a good chunk of time here walking outside.Theres also a terrific cafe in the farm house on the premises. I eat there regularly, and its great. Their chef has honed a terrific little menu. They also have a pastry chef, and every sweet item is golden. But the winner is the carrot cake. The cookies are also nothing to scoff at.This place is big enough that it can be a destination, come wander the outdoor area for a while, pick out a few flowers for your garden then browse the large indoor plant and gift area and grab something for mom. Then have a coffee or even some tacos from the café.Ive noticed people here that seem to be on a date. I think that would work well, its big enough to spend time if wanted, you can get food or coffee, but there is no commitment to stay, so end the date whenever, no long dinner or movie.
I purchase something that didnt end up fitting as well as I hoped it would. I was concerned that it would not be something that I could return, but they went out of their way to help me out and get what I actually wanted. Its kind of a high-end place, so one should have high end expectations. They certainly met my expectations. Thank you for the excellent service!
My favorite place and breakfast and service !!!
Great selection and quality of house plants!
The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. They spent a great deal of time answering all of my questions and showing me around. I will definitely be back in the future.
Best nursery in Portland. Plants are always healthy. Fantastic selection, very knowledgeable staff. It is a treat to go there. I have shopped here since they opened many years ago - I rarely look for plants anywhere else. This is a business built and sustained on its outstanding reputation.
Fantastic food. Ill be back.
One of the finest nurseries in the Portland area. Its on five acres and has many unusual plant varieties for indoor and outdoor plantings. Also has a terrific eatery on the premises and expert help. Be advised, prices are on the high side.
Great staff and selection! One of my favorite places to go find new house plants!
Im new to the area and found this to be one of the nicest nurserys Ive visited. Great variety and selection of healthy looking plants, and a nice setting overall to browse.
This is a nice nursery and they keep making improvements. Very helpful and friendly staff who are ready to do what it takes to secure your business.
What a great place for inspiration! The plants are all displayed so beautifully youd scarcely believe theyre for sale. The staff was laid-back so that I could wander through the place, but informative when I needed it.Based on the location alone youd think this place is pretty high-end, right? However, I was surprised that many of the prices were fairly comparable to other nurseries such as 7 Dees & Portland Nursery, the organic fertilizers were even significantly cheaper than Orchards. The only things I noticed that were dramatically more expensive were plants that were larger or particularly unusual (a lot of big Monrovia pots, etc).So Id say this isnt the place to buy all your plants, but its a FANTASTIC place if you want to finish a quest for that great focal plant that you wont find just anywhere.
Looks amazing so far! Will update after breakfast and plant browsing.
