This donut alone was enough to make me want to never leave Portland, but it was the matched customer service that truly won my heart. I felt so welcomed in here, and please keep in mind that I ran in here two minutes before they closed. The cashier was so patient with me, and I was able to grab some cute souvenirs to take home including some ADORABLE donut keychains! When I’m back in Portland, this place will without a doubt be on my list to revisit.
You know this place is legit when theres a long line out the door on a rainy Saturday. I came here with some friends and we ordered everything from the salted matcha, blueberry fizz, pumpkin frosting, french toast and the Simpsons donuts. We also ordered the Cherry Wood smoked bacon, egg and cheese sandwich with the side of coffee and hash brown. The donut shop here features many unique flavors. The donuts had a soft interior and a crispy shell on the outside. We loved the blueberry, french toast and matcha ones the most. The sandwich is a must order if you love a hearty breakfast. The hash brown was really thick, seasoned well and fried perfectly. This is a great spot to stop by and grab a quick early snack. The line moves very quickly and theres plenty of seating outside as well. Parking is very easy to find as theres a garage and street parking a couple of blocks up.
While this may be thought of as a donut shop, the breakfast sandwich menu is astonishingly extensive and endlessly customizable. #8 (breaded eggplant, tomato pesto, & egg) on a ciabatta roll was transcendent, memorable. That being said, get some crullers. But do arrive early, if you can. I went around 8am on a Thursday and they’d sold out 1/3 of their donut options, already.Service was friendly, but really really slow. There were perhaps 5 people in line ahead of me when I arrived, and I waited almost half an hour. So keep that in mind, and don’t go there in a rush. But—def worth it.
Holy COW. Can’t say enough to possibly describe how amazing this local biz is. First of all the staff is sweet, hilarious, and incredibly helpful guiding you through the myriad options they have for food. And the donuts...they have 3 styles and 4 million flavors. None are overwhelming flavors, so the dough still shines thru and blends w the frosting. Do NOT miss the hash browns. I couldn’t even wait until I got back to my hotel to finish it. Tore that ish up right in the street w no shame. AMAZING PLACE!!!
Fantastic donuts in the heart of downtown Portland, Maine. French toast crueller was amazing - super fluffy and great flavor. The cherry jubilee was good, super sweet, with surprise (to me) caramel(?) in the middle. Definitely worth it. Note: they fry the donuts in lard, which wasnt great for my vegetarian wife.
Walked in and asked if I purchased something could I use the restroom. The guy at the counter told me no so I walked out. My unsupportive boyfriend chose to buy a donut anyway but he said it wasn’t very good. Try The Holy Donut. The donuts are way better and they actually let the customers use the restroom there.
I was really excited to try these donuts and sadly they did not live up to the hype. The service was phenomenal though. The flavors sounded really exciting and fresh but did not taste like anything. The crueler with orange glaze was probably the only flavor that stood out. Tried Holy donuts as well and would recommend those over hi-Fi of you had to choose
My favorite spot in Portland for delicious mouth watering breakfast sandwiches. Their fresh fried chicken sandwiches are also best in town.
Trendy, modern donut shop. Decent donuts. Cider donuts were probably the best. Chocolate orange was not great, bit still a donut, so it is hard to be bad. Haha.
Holy s**t their sandwiches are so good. S Tier Chicken sandiwch. Get there early if you want donuts. But no worries if theyre out. Just get yourself that heavenly sandwich.
Kudos for serving the first honey dipped donut that actually tasted like honey!!! We got an array of yeast raised donuts and a few interesting cake. Frankly, skip the cakes. The yeast raised donuts were light, airy and tasty! Will definitely be back for more swirly things!!
I am sort of a donut connoisseur. My favorite donuts are often raised and covered or filled with something sweet. My family and I were really excited to try Portland’s famous donut shop. But these didn’t meet our expectations at all. Huge props for the flavor creations - no one is making such interesting flavors. But the baking is not great. The donuts at almost all cake donuts - and barely better than the consistency of a store-bought Entenmans donut. They are dense, a bit greasy and shriveled up. They cant even compare to a farm made cider donut which we get a lot around here at the local orchards. We did enjoy a raised honey donut - but it had a very noticeable yeast flavor which was distracting. It almost tasted sour. A honey dip is the “white bread” of any donut shop and this place didn’t deliver. Next time we’ll try Holy Donut!
My daughter and I went here on a whim and we thought the variety of flavors was really interesting. The menu is conveniently divided by the donut base type - cake, creuller, etc. Coffee was decent but could be hotter. Lines are long so come prepared to wait outside. It’s a small space! Love the decor! From my daughter: “The donuts were delicious!!”
Yummy. Amazing and yummy! These are the words my kids used to describe HiFi Donuts. The breakfast sandwich, coffee, and donuts were all of the above.I had the s’mores cruller. It was everything I hoped it would be and makes one wonder why a person would go anywhere else for a donut. My wife had the chocolate sea salt hibiscus which had a chocolate ganache with a fruity hibiscus swirl and rose sea salt. The breakfast sandwich was loaded with bacon and egg and was on point and steamy hot. We were going to branch out and try something else our final morning in Portland but why when we’ve found darn near perfection. The service was fantastic too!
When I walked into this donut shop after seeing photos I immediately thought the price was steep compared to what I’m used to. But the donuts looked so good that I decided quickly to order a whole dozen anyway. The plan was to eat a couple and then to bring them home to our family. But then it turned out that they were too good to share. We had to try them all. Best money that I spent in Portland hands down. I’ve never reviewed a business before, but this company needs to be known about. Food is our career, our lives, and our passion. Thank you so much for a food memory that I’ll think about forever.
Best...Donuts...Ever!I’ve lived all over the US and this is the best donut shop my wife and I have ever been too. The insanely perfect donuts-we tried 4- (and incredible chorizo breakfast sandwich) coupled with great conversation with one of the owners, Melissa, my experience here was perfect.HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Can you please update your current hours? Walked there on my lunch break to find youre closed. Really would love to try some of your donuts! Thank you!
Holy moley that eggplant breakfast spits hot fire. Straight bars. So good. I also got an iced coffee and it was so good. Just kinda walked upon this place and was so impressed. Customer service was great too.
Thank God for this place and their amazing drip coffee! There are so many cute coffee and donut places in Portland but Hifi is definitely our go-to for a regular brew. Love the donuts as well but the coffee is truly the best Ive ever had.
This place has a ton of flavors of old fashion donuts but that’s all. If you are looking for any type of yeast donut, there selection is nil. They also don’t have skim milk for coffee which I found a bit odd
Iced latte, bacon&egg&cheese on ciabatta, and a Simpsons donut. Simple and delicious. The sandwich was perfectly cooked and built, the latte was refreshingly easy to drink, and the donut as a lovely treat for later? Couldnt ask for more. Staff was very friendly and I cant wait for it to be breakfast time again.
Will happily give it a 5 when they let you sit inside again.
Apparently they fry all their donuts in lard without advertising it openly. This is really deceptive. People have religious and other culinary reasons to avoid certain ingredients. They are in the food industry and should know better. I cannot understand why they do not openly state it and put on signs so religious, health conscience folks and vegan/vegetarians can avoid them. One small ambiguous statement buried on the website without mention of lard is inadequate and unacceptable for something so serious.
Friendly staff and best donuts ever! We tried both the Chocolate Orange and the Mexican Hot Chocolate donuts--unbelievably delicious! So many different flavors, this place is truly unique.
Like many of the other reviews say, their krullers are awesome..... Staff super friendly and service was fast. Breakfast sandwiches all looked terrific too. May try next time if I can stay away from the donuts!
Great spot, great service, amazing donuts and breakfast sandwiches. We waited a bit to get in and order due to capacity limits, but the line was huge once we got back out. Go early!
Breakfast sandwich on an everything donut was one of the highlights of our week+ trip to Maine. Sweet donuts were delish too! They throw in an extra per dozen.
Loved Hifi donuts! I have tried many trendy & expensive donuts in Portland and Boston, and this place is the real deal. Cruller, old fashioned and yeast types (I might be wrong in terminology) are just made in perfection. I only love crullers from DD, and now I am ruined. There is no way I will pay for that after tasting Hifi crullers. We will have to come back soon to try breakfast sandwiches, and take better quality photos. (We gobbled these up). The donuts were very filling.7 donuts for $11. I felt like I won the lottery.Thank you for creating these perfectly made, extremely creative donuts!Ps- my husband’s fav was key lime donut. Any other key lime pie lovers out there?
I got a lavender lemon donut and a latte. The donut was very delicious!
I love Hifi Donuts and everything about this shop. All the employees treat you like your family. It’s so awesome seeing owners still put in the hard work.
Coffee is ok. The breakfast sandwiches were good and the donuts were great
A great cafe specializing in donuts.HIFI donuts is located right next to Longfellow Books near monument square. They have a nice variety of delicious, well-made donuts and handcrafted coffee beverages. The interior is tidy, and possesses a really whimsical Harry Potter motif that just seems to fit. The employees are really kind and stand by their product, and even their website designer offered us his booth when he saw the other booths were full.Would definitely recommend for a quick jolt of caffeine and a tasty morning treat.
HiFi is GREAT. I actually (dont shoot me!) think theyre better than the Holy Donut. Their crullers are fluffy and moist and incredible, like clouds, and their cake donuts are to die for, amazing flavors with lots of depth other than just simple, straight sweetness. They will have a line on the weekends so either get there early or arrive on a weekday!
The breakfast veggie ciabatta sandwich was delicious!! They use the morning star patties.I also got a blueberry glazed donut and it was so yummy! Definitely will be back!Coffee drink we got wasn’t anything special!
Delicious. Heavier than your average donut, but the flavors are great. Recommend the lavender and lace cake donut.
Definitely don’t see the hype around this place. Donuts were very doughy and too sweet. Coffee was also so so bad. I got a mocha iced coffee and it tasted like they put dirt in the bottom of my cup. Won’t be returning!
Donuts are very good but the breakfast sandwich with the everything donut is the best eating experience for breakfast I have ever had...bacon, egg & donut sandwich has been the highlight of my trip..the ham & cheese was killer as well. A must have!
Donuts are gorgeous, unique and delicious! Prepare yourself for a slightly different flavor as most everything is fried in animal fat. The non-donut menu boasts some impressive breakfast and lunch sandwiches. Ari is a brilliant host who shared all the delightful donut details which made it even harder to decide what to choose! Combine all of that with a super fun and comfy atmosphere and free wifi and you might just have found your new favorite coffee and donut joint!
The staff is always ready to make your experiance amazing! The donuts are out of this world! The Donuts and food, will take you back to the way food should taste! I tried the RoLo Donut it was awesome! The coffee is a Delight to your Mouth! This is one of my favorite places to relax and enjoy the start of my Day!
Amazing doughnuts! Way better than the other local place in Portland. Their raised doughnuts melt in your mouth and have fantastic flavor. The cake doughnuts arent heavy at all and have wonderful rich flavor. There were so many varieties it was hard to choose what we wanted. The churro wasnt my favorite, it has a good cinnamon flavor, but wasnt there for me. The rolled bun tasted like a cinnamon roll. The chocolate cake doughnuts were like cake and so so good. My favorite by far was the coconut though. The flake was perfect and omg so good. I didnt even share it. My partners favorite was the stay puft. I also loved the hefeweizen.
Amazing donuts. My favorite is the honey glazed. Hoping the maple donut isnt sold out next time so i can try that!! So soft, fresh and clean tasting. Highly recommend!
Came for the donuts, stayed for the breakfast sandwiches. Everything we had was delicious. They have a great selection of donuts and flavors, and the staff was friendly. Well be back!
New go to donut shop here in Portland. The donuts here are incredible, and they have such a wide variety of flavors. My favorite is their donut The Old Port. Also the hot chocolate is a must. One of the best Ive ever tasted. The service here is also super friendly, and personable. Watch out Portland! Theres a new donut shop in town. 🍩
A very unique donut experience! Highly recommend the cold brew.
Giving three stars based solely on how beautiful these doughnuts are. Theyre really nothing special other than that. Way too sweet and not super flavorful. The location is nice and the store itself is super cozy feeling. Im just glad that we didnt drive all the way to Portland just for these doughnuts as other reviews have said.
Standards and interesting flavors as well as good coffee. Enjoyed it.
They never skimp with the bacon on the blt, and their donuts are addictive! not a ~huge~ fan of their coffee, but i mightve come on a bad day or something. generous fry portions too. its basically sharing size
Rang all morning for a busy signal. Went to store to mention it. Guy just picked up the phone and hung it up again…and then it worked. Not the best way to run a business
Amazing donuts in both classic and original flavors at a beautiful location. Theyre so good there may be a line just to get in the shop at peak times!
Donuts are good but we had 12 people in front of us and it took 40 mins to get donuts. Slowest donut place I’ve witnessed
I love a good funky donut! I got the lemon & lavender lace and a dirty chia latte to go with. Both fantastic!
Best donuts in Portland!! But since everyone is already attesting that, Ill draw your attention to their Cyprian Hifi. Hello? A GRILL HALLOUMI SANDWICH?! I dont know if this exists anywhere else in the city, so if youre a vegetarian or can appreciate a delicious cheese I would put this on your must-try list.
Love the variety of flavors and the fact that they offer yeast, cruller, and cake style donuts! Mexican hot chocolate cake donut is truly to die for. Next time, I will have to try their sandwiches :)
There very good donuts but I would like it much better if I could dine inside, glad to see benches and tables outside now
We were going to try Hifi and Holy donuts. Got the family up to avoid lines and get some donuts before anything sold out. Got there at 8 am on Wednesday morning when they should of been open but they were closed. So I guess Holy Donuts wins by default. Very disappointed.
We came at the end of the day but their donuts werent worth all the hype. They were good but not like everyone described them to be
Excellent location, clean, well lit and friendly staff. Wish I would have tried more food. I’m only giving four stars because the donuts were very thin like Funyuns and we’re expensive for their size. I do keep in mind a business has to make profit. The flavor was great though, would definitely return to try more just hopefully a little bigger!
Very good donuts.
Delicious donuts, great staff. Get there early for the best selection
Good donuts and everything. Sad that their large iced coffee is now bit expensive, it was my main go to when I didn’t feel like donuts
Hifis donuts are the best, and their sandwiches are also amazing! Love this place.
Small, over-priced and awful, but other than that, they were terrific!
I’ve been there a few times. I enjoyed my interactions with the staff, the variety of flavors. My favorite one was one of the classics - cinnamon- sugar but better than any other cinnamon-sugar I’ve ever tried in my life! Highly recommend it!
Absolutely delicious! Lemon poppyseed is fantastic.
Great food and coffee, the Italian bread was super crusty and sift on the inside!
HiFi donuts is wayyyy to small there is no room to stand where am I supposed to stand on the roof top? And the customer service is terrible the young lady is rude I’m gonna start buying their donuts and throw it in the trash just because cause this place is insane they need therapy.
Peri Peri Sandwich was the best call I made in Portland for a couple days. Be trouble if I lived here.
Key Lime and Stawberry Shortcake....on.point. Delicious.
Hifi truly stands out as a unique spot with great service and, most important, uncommonly delicious donuts. Staff made me feel welcomed, had a small chat with the owner, and left knowing that Id be back again soon before even tasting the donut breakfast sandwich I got (crazy good!). Of all the new and hip restaurants/cafes opening in Portland on what seems like a daily basis, Hifi is on a higher level and well worth visiting.
