Update (Oct 2021): Back in Portland and got a classic croissant at my favorite bakery. The store presentation is different from the time when I lived in Portland but the croissant is still delicious, although not as amazing as I remembered...Original (Feb 2021): Absolutely one of the best pastry shops in Portland. The taste, the texture, the presentation, are all top notch. You gotta try their rose pistachio croissant, its beyond the world delicious with flaky croissant layers and intriguingly flavorful sweet fillings. It becomes my routine to try something new every time I come here, twice baked chocolate croissant, creme filled chocolate brioche, savory croissants, blueberry muffin, cinnamon roll, everything I had was good and often great. One thing to keep in mind, they dont always have everything available everyday, even the basic croissants, but they seem to like trying new things, so…surprise yourself.
They had a fabulous white mocha with rose water! But damn their cinnamon Danish was sooo fluffy and full of cinnamon!I definitely recommend this place!
We went for the coffee which was great. The surprise bonus was a Parisian perfect croissant. It was buttery and flaky, and nice to dunk in my cappuccino.
Cute spot with delicious pastries and great coffee.
Tucked away in the Pearl district I found this bakery because I asked a former Parisian what her choice was best bakery was in the city. Her recommendation did not disappoint. The place is tiny but their selection of croissants and other pastries is large and the ones we had were really delicious. I especially recommend the matcha croissant because you dont really find that kind of croissant elsewhere and it was pretty good.
The best baked treats in The Pearl 🥐 🍰 ☕️ — the location is hidden and easy to miss if waking by. Thanks to Google Maps... not so hidden.Located at NW 10th and NW Flounders. Delicious baked items... croissants, berry danish. All are relatively light, not oily, baked fresh, quality ingredients, and not overly sweet. If I have only one cheat day a week — Nuvrei is one I look forward to.Was this review helpful? Fantastic French bakery! Best pastries I’ve ever tasted. My cappuccino was awesome too. Highly recommend you give this place a try. When we visit Portland again we will be back for sure. Don’t be surprised if there’s a line out front. But trust me, it goes fast and is totally worth it. 🥰
Delicious every time. I do and do not envy those that live within walking distance because I would eat gloriously delicious baked goods far too often. But if youre going to eat a baked good, might as well go here or go home. The savory are so god damn in properly satiated after 1, while the sweet are something I force myself to share because Id eat em all. Also, the staff are fantastic and down to earth. Tip them well.
Whoa! Mind literally blown! What a gem! Rose Pullman is the new cronut, Im telling you. Everything they make is great, so very difficult to pick what to order because I just want everything. A definite come back place next time Im in Portland.
They haven’t had raw sugar for a month now. You wait in line, pay $5 for a cappuccino, they’d take your order and tell you they have no raw sugar. 3rd time this month, I just left and I am not coming back, although I love the coffeeRidiculous
I came here to try the croissant that everyone is taking about. Got there around 10 and got the last chocolate croissant, so get there earlier if thats what you want.I had a chocolate and a regular croissant. The regular was not as buttery as other croissant Ive had but I still like it. The chocolate croissant is not sweet at all which suites my taste. If you like your chocolate bitter then this is for you.
Croissants were amazing. My mind has been changed about the possibility of liking macarons. Ive never had a good one in the past. Had the Early Grey here. It was good but a bit odd. Would like to try a different kind to see if I do indeed like them.
Chocolate croissant was really sad. Barely had any chocolate inside, it had layers but the layers were doughy and not flaky at all. Its strange to mess up such a standard offering. The pistachio rose was quite good though, had a good crunch and abundant pistachio inside.Workers seem to be quite uninterested. The line system was also confusing (we had to wait outside because of COVID which is ok, but they had no clear marking as to how to line up). With two people working and not busy at all, their pace was really slow. Overall quite a mediocre experience thats also expensive.
Great small cafe. Pastries here are so good. They are made fresh daily, even the dough is made in their bakery. I see people stocking up all the time. One time I heard a man saying he hadn’t had dishes like this since he left home. Not sure where he was from, but he seemed to find the pastries so special. They have both sweet and savory pastries and a macaron bar. The macaron bar used to be on a different level from the main cafe, but now it’s all in one place.Entrance is to the left and up a few steps just after entering the main building’s front entrance. Seating is limited, but I’ve never been without a seat. Seems like most people get their order to go, but there are always a few people chilling and enjoying their treats.Space and atmosphere is clean, cool, and well designed. There are also magazines for reading.
Best croissant in town! Other pastries are great too
I stopped by to get a cappuccino and chocolate croissant. The place is really pretty and the baristas were nice. As for the chocolate croissant it was average. I was hoping for super light and flaky, but it was still ok. There was a mini canelé served with my cappuccino. That was a nice touch and it was tasty. I’ll have to return to try the other goods.
Adorable space and delicious treats w friendly staff
Pretty disappointed that despite the majority of businesses in the Pearl, the staff are not allowed plexiglass in the cafe. According to a staff member, it ruined the owners aesthetic.Overall, the experience was great and so were the pastries, but try to leave cash instead of card tips if you want whoever helps you to /actually/ get paid.Ive never left a review before, but my favorite staff member mentioned that she was fired over an inquiry about her tips. I think that loyal customers and fans of Nuvrei should be aware of nefarious business practices.
Great croissants and other tasty treats
Their pastries are baked on-site, and they are insanely delicious. The coffee is high quality and prepared to perfection. Everything about this place feels like its been crafted with care and exquisite attention to detail, and I honestly cant recommend it highly enough.
Had the Chai, it was not the best, missing flavour and spice. Felt like I was drinking sweet steam milk with a little bit of spices. Definitively need more kick to it.HOWEVER, the Anise gibassier was DIVINE! Omg have to try it. The texture and the quantity of sweet was on pointe. The anise flavour was there and wasn’t overpowering. Great concept and well balanced patisserie
Edit since I couldnt find the info on their website: the Macaron bar is Fri to Sun 9-5pm.Came here because my wife wanted macaroons. Cozy shop with good lighting and some great treats. Tried the hazelnut croissant, chocolate walnut cookie, mini canales, and of course macaroons.Canales were soft and chewy, with slight caramel taste. I wasnt a fan but my wife liked them. The chocolate walnut cookie was pretty good, but the walnut flavor did overwhelm the chocolate taste. The macaroons were awesome, we tried strawberry champagne and white chocolate. The hazelnut croissant was amazing, rich buttery flavor with chocolate and hazelnut overtones.
Very clean, adorable patisserie. Their drip coffee is amazing and the perfect pick-me-up on a hard day. Excellent pain au chocolat
Wonderful customer service and super friendly staff
So glad I finally tried this place! The rose latte was delicious and the pastries were perfection. The staff were also super nice and helpful, I cant wait to go back.
We ordered chocolate croissant and pistachio croissant. They are both very good. The staff were also very friendly.
Amazing food and even better service!! Love how we feel when we visit this shop. Good luck finding a better croissant anywhere in Oregon! Their creative flavors and classic style is so much fun.
Their rose croissant is absolute perfection.
I absolutely love this place! Today was my first experience with Nuvrei, and I’m definitely going to be a repeat customer. The employees were so polite and helpful and the food was delicious! I recommend the rose croissant, and their turkey and tomato pretzel sandwich.
Hard to find croissants this fabulous anywhere.
The croissants, pastries and coffee are delicious. They only let one person in the shop at a time. Their pretzel sandwiches are so good too. I love coming here.
The best pastries in the Pearl District on 10th avenue by Flanders. The Rose, pistachio, and almond croissants are delicious. The staff is always friendly and efficient. The Covid-19 protocols limit entry to one person at a time. It ensures everyones safety.
Fast service, nice people
Delicious pastries and cookies. Favorites are lemon cookie and rose croissant. Coffee is tasty and the london fog latte is a good treat.
Make the trip, wait in line, and enjoy! So worth it!
A less than positive review mainly because of low value for money.Better than most French style pastries in Portland, but that’s no saying much, and it’s nothing to write home about. It frustrates me when a shop thinks “ok + interior design” gives them permission to charge $5 for counter-service with automated tip for their stale mediocracy.
When I moved to Portland and asked where I could find a good pain au chocolat, several of my foodie friends recommended Nuvrei. Ill be honest, it wasnt the best Ive ever had (that honor goes to the amazing Ceci La in NYC), but it was very good. However, what DID blow my mind was a rose croissant! Rose flavor in the tender dough, and rose flavor in the GLAZE! They also have a sort of flat cinnamon roll that is glazed. Call ahead to find out when they will be fresh out of the oven. Usually they do a run early, and then another at around 10am. There are many tasty goodies there to try! Oh and the espresso drinks are great too.
These pastries are amazing! The rose croissant was the best, it was sooooo flaky and delicious! But get there early, because they sell out fast. If I was in Portland I would be here every day! The staff were friendly.
Terrific. Im looking forward to eating my way through this top-notch pastry shop. (Rose croissant, chocolate/almond croissant, and lemon poppyseed cookie so far.) Staff is always friendly, and the COVID-19 protocols seem in place as well. Highly recommended!
Delicious and unique pastries to go with their coffees. Service and employees are always amazing as well!
Absolutely stellar, friendly service and delicious pastries.
After years of being an incredibly happy customer I only this week decided to ask... and was dismayed to learn that they DON’T use organic flour.Given what we now know about RoundUp herbicide causing allergies and inflammation, I can no longer eat at Nuvrei. So sad!
Minimalist patisserie right in the Pearl. Offers a variety of sweet and savory pastries, delectable and decadent. The place has quite the minimalistic layout and sorta modern vibes. However its quite the small area with barely a dozen seating spots, wish they do expand with proper seating.
Absolutely, the best croissant, macaroons and coffee spot in town - a triple threat. We have trouble not purchasing a box of baked goods when we stop in. Definitely, recommend the cafe au late with the vanilla simple sugar. This cafe is not to miss in the afternoon, if you wait too long you may miss out on the delicious options of pastries and cookies.
Great croissants, limited selection. If you just want a pastry this is the place to go
Best danish in town.
The cafe portion of Nuvrei is funky and cool. Its mostly a plain white palette from floor to ceiling. It allows the pastries and sandwiches and cookies to stand out and shine colorfully. Every single thing is made meticulously; tender loving care doesnt even begin to describe the construction of the pastries. The flavors and combinations of delights they offer are absolutely fantastic. Standouts: Curried chicken, Ham and Cheese Croissant, Marionberry Pastry, Lemon or Pistachio Macaron. Oh, hell EVERYTHING is good. And their freshly roasted house blend coffee is one of the best sips of joe Ive ever experienced.Nuvreis bakery is in the basement. A large window at sidewalk level lets you peep in at the bakers working their magic. Early in the morning you can catch the AMAZING aromas of the freshly baking goodies wafting up through the sidewalk grate. Itll stop you in your tracks. The friendly and knowledgeable FOH staff works hard to keep the cafe stocked and handles the crowds with ease and grace. The BOH staff are at it before the rooster crows mixing and baking all their perfections, and surprisingly, with all those master talents combined under one roof, youd expect to pay a fortune. The prices are $$ the quality and flavors are $$$$$. Ask about the Macaron tree for your next holiday soiree or milestone celebration.
One of my favorite places. The pastries are delicious and the coffee is great. It’s a nice place to hang out for a while or grab and go.
Petite but charming.Decent coffee and a great almond croissant. It has a limited dining area so if you want to sit in you may have to wait. We managed to get a seat on though.Friendly staff. And the minimalist decor really highlights how clean and well kept it is.Good for sitting in and to take out.
Ive been is several times now and I must say... very profession, very tasty. Maybe a touch too much, sir, here you go, sir but thats the Pearl. And this is a comment for My barista, oat. Thats just for them. Dont strain yer brain.
Cute little cafe and patisserie, but perhaps too small. Very few seating options in such a small space, better for a grab and go. Some unique flavors on their baked goods.
Best breakfast sandwich I’ve ever indulged in, and I’m glad I have developed a wheat allergy or I would buy one every day. The macrons are some of the best in the city!
I have been a big fan of Stumptown and Heart coffee but change my favorite today!
The espresso at Nuvrei is very very good. But what sets them apart in Portland is their pastry selection. My favorites are the Rose Croissant (not for everybody, but my absolute favorite croissant in Portland) and their berry scone.Top-notch, European-level quality right in the heart of the Pearl.
Excellent french style bakery. Our favorite is the matcha croissant (delicate and smooth matcha white chocolate flavor topping) as well as the savory sesame croissant.
FYI-they don’t toast the pastries - other than that the best croissants in Portland!
EDIT: I have been a long time customer of this bakery for 3 years, I’ve never been disappointed until today. We arrived at 8 am waited for 30 minutes, and were met by an exasperated staff who was answering phones as we tried to order. It’s clear nuvrei has shifted their attention to subscription boxes and selling cookie mix ($15 are you serious). We could see people prepping a huge amount of pastries in the kitchen below but their upstairs inventory was DISMAL.I’m almost convinced the pastries in the case were a day old. I’ve had maybe a dozen or so berry brioches over the years. They’re normally soft and so good! Today the one we ordered actually crunched as I took a bite it was that over baked. It’s sad when a business who once operated with so much care and attention to detail falls by the wayside but I guess that’s just how it goes sometimes.I would encourage you to find another local bakery as it’s clear this one is past its prime and doesn’t care to maintain quality for walk up service.Old review:Best bakery and staff on the west coast.. possibly the world.
Quaint industrial style pastry bar. Coffee is solid. Staff is nice and the pastries are amazing. Get the rose croissant, you cant go wrong.
You will not find better French pastries and croissants on the West Coast. That’s no exaggeration! They strive for just as great of customer service as they bake and care so much about their patrons.
Only one word is necessary to describe Nuvrei: extraordinary.
Love this place! Delicious rose croissant, macaroons had my daughter wanting more. They are known for rose water pastries. So happy to find this place in our Sunday venture...a must try.
Was here for Pride reasons! Id never heard of it before but I got a lovely fruity drink and a sandwich. Im pretty sure the sandwich had cucumbers but it was refreshing and delicious. I want to say that the drink was strawberry mango? Something almost tropical to deal with the heat. Highly enjoyed it.
Cute little place. I think its sort of on the expensive side. The pastries are pretty good but definitely doesnt have the Im in France feel or flavor. Macaroons are good but the quality of the macaroon changes based on the flavor, some are better than others.
