So yummy! Its a small coffee shop, but cozy and the staff are friendly! I told the cashier that I had never been here before, so she recommended the cafe de olla and I also got a spinach and cheese tamal. No regrets! So delicious! The coffee is spicy and sweet. I got it hot, but they sell bottled cold versions as well, which they suggested different ways to mix it to make it the different ways they drink it at home. The tamal is hot and very moist. I have never had it before, so unfortunately I dont have anything to compare it to, but I will definitely be back to try them all!
Walked in and was greeted immediately, very nice staff. The wall of iconic revolutionaries is awesome, they have a small table area, a lounging area, and a high seating with a bar area. Its all in a compact room but it doesnt feel cramped. Also this almond horchata latte was amazing. Gave me some memories of being in Guatemala.
Foodie find! This is a charming neighborhood coffee house with Mexican-inspired flavors.Stopped in the first time b/c it happened to be near our hotel. Got a horchatta latte that was so memorable we came back the next day to grab some breakfast for the road. The champurrado (like a chocolate-cinnamon oatmeal) was delicious and warmed me up inside. The tamales (we had the veggie and a mushroom-chipotle) were homemade. Every. Bite. Was. A. Joy. Flavorful salsa too. They also have chicken mole and other meat options. And the chocolat-chip muffin was also moist and tasty. The other items in the bakery case - including a really awesome looking flan - also looked tempting but I could feel myself gaining weight just by looking at this point.Highly recommend!
Friendly staff and quick service. Not your traditional empanada dough (they use more of a croissant dough which is more moist but a lot more flakey) but the spinach & potato is full of flavor. Their horchata is a little too sweet for me even with a shot of espresso, but great staff and a quiet, cozy place to get some work done for an hour.
I love this place! Great beverage selection and tamales, and warm atmosphere. Used to be a nice place to study.
Tamales de mole, chile verde and Blueberry?! Why not. Champurrado, Mexican hot chocolate and café, and the usual American stuff. Quaint and clean, seems a favorite of the working folk in the area, we were visiting the city for a week and accidentally found this place when getting of the bus. Simple, quick stop with a few surprising Mexican items reminiscent of grandmas kitchen . Shop keeper (maybe owner) looks like Frida Khalo. Not sure if intentional or coincidental but pleasant nonetheless.
Great little coffee shop with latin foods I really miss.. Also great mexican mocha.
Food is clearly frozen and reheated, yet overpriced. I have ordered pupusas and tamales and the ones sold here are by far the worst Ive had in Portland. Drinks are flavorless and overpriced as well. Maria has horrible customer service. Ive heard multiple accounts from fellow Latinxs that she is discriminatory against Black and Brown Latinxs, and will only be nice to white people (white Latinx and non-Latinx). Reposting because she deleted my previous comment (among other 1 star reviews), dont support this discriminatory business!
I visited this place every morning for the week l was staying in Downtown Portland. Its wonderful. I miss the delicious coffee selections and rice pudding. The atmosphere is relaxed and colorful and the customer service was great.
The Mexican coffee taste a little sweet and strong and it has cane sugar added. The empanadas are amazing and it comes with cream and salsa on the side and they have a vegetarian options.
The place was interesting. I walk in and stood at the counter for at least 5 minutes before someone turned to me to ask if Ive been helped. There were a total of 5 customers all of which had been served yet they seem too busy to serve me or notice. I did not feel like I was welcome in the establishment but the good news is.. There see literally hundreds of coffee shops around. 3 stars is actually very generous considering how terrible the coffee tasted.
Loved the flavor of the delicious coffee & empanadas! We will definitely be back here.
They have good food dont get me wrong but if you are on a low carb diet dont waste your money to much bread foods there, what really disappoints me is the poor customer service and not falling orders. I asked for an iced mocha drink light on the sweater and decaf. They said they can do it. I got a plain hot mocha coffee and it was not decaffeinated. Not going back
Great coffee with a mexican twist. Loved this place and the atmosphere. The lady behind the counter looked just like my late grandma when she was younger do made it a little more special
This was one of the worst experiences ever. I paid 4.50 for coffee with sour milk in it and was greeted by the barista with a look of unwelcome. I wouldnt waste your money.
The coffees are fresh and tasty, the staff are patient and kind and the prices are cheap!
This coffee shop has one of the best cozy feelings that I have ever been in. The cafe allows for you to sit quietly and be in a good atmosphere. There are photos of revolutionaries on the wall that are inspiring to say the least. Staff were friendly and very helpful.
Great little coffee shop right in downtown, close to Portland State University campus. The South American take on coffee drinks is a wonderful flare that makes this coffee shop stand out among the hundreds.Hot drinks are flavourful, spicy and crafted with great care and passion. Food is quick to come out and is pretty tasty. Prices of everything are what you would expect of a downtown coffee shop. Nothing really cheap, but you can still get out with a drink and a quick bite for about ten bucks. There are a few tables and some lounge space, but overall the seating here is limited. You need to be comfortable with squeezing in where there is a seat or go during the slower hours.Extra props for the friendliness of the folks who run this place and for the eclectic music choices. This place is a must-visit if youre in the area and up for something beyond your standard Starbucks venti foamy whatever.
Great espresso. Malt notes come through. Looks like they have a good selection of homemade food as well. Ill be coming back :-)
The coffee shops overall vibe is always an amazing way to start out your day. Ambience is unbeatable, staff is welcoming, and its hands down among the best cups of coffee you can find in Portland which is no easy accomplishment.
The coffee is good here but I highly recommend trying the food. My favorites are the flan or breakfast burritos. Service is always great whether youre staying or getting a coffee to go. I also like the music they play. Good for meeting a friend but not good for groups.
Their tres leches cake, Almond Tart and Classic Chocolate Brownie are my most favourite. I am there every other day for one of the aforementioned items.
Good coffee and food! I especially like the chocolate flan. Great place to relax and hang out. This is the best cafe in the PSU area. The almond tart here is one of the most delicious pastries you can get in Portland.
Delicious coffees and treats. The almond tart is really special.
Para la gente! Tamales are almost like mommas, and their seasonal drinks are the best. Went there a lot as a Portland state student
Everything is Delicious! Get there early because by 9:45am there will be a long wait. Very small location and very popular, but work the wait.
Fun, quiet, good service, all add up to a pleasant stop for coffee, tea and a pastry. Positioned to taketake advantage of downtown traffic and Portland State. Give them a try.
Great tamales and great drinks! Only issue is that they seem to be out of different flavors of tamales everytime we go.
Small coffee shop in downtown Portland. Interesting atmosphere with art of various revolutionary figures such as Che Guevara on the walls. Their chai latte is the best Ive ever had.
Cool coffee shop. It looks like the name would suggest it might. Its a tiny space and very cozy. Espresso was good but I did not try their signature drink. And for the life of me I cannot remember the name.
The best Mexican mocha ever with rose and cardamom. They even have vegan sweets and savories. Very nice service and pleasant atmosphere. Ill be a regular.
The Mexican Mocha is fantastic (as long as you like it a bit on the sweet side). The ham panzin (basically ham in slightly sweet bread) was tasty, but still a little frozen in the middle and a little overly moist on the bottom. If you have to wait at the DMV, this is a perfect place to grab a coffee or tea and a snack until you can line up.
Extremely good coffee and delicious authentic Mexican treats and lunch. This tiny shop has loads character. The tamales and palmeires are my favorite! Very veg/vegan friendly!
Neat cafe will go back and try more coffee and their guava bar. And if I get daring enough I will try their brownie with chili in it. The one without chili is good.
Nice spot to relax a bit and enjoy a well-made beverage and a treat
A very sweet and charming spot - I am a huge fan of their Cafe De Olla - their pastries and food are all wonderful as well.
Great little place. With wonderful food and coffee.
This coffee shop is after my own heart. All my favorite Hispanic treats and good coffee, Horchata too! It makes my Texan heart sing.
Excellent coffee. I recommend the dark blend with the Irish cream. The tamales are not bad! And the pastries are good.
Good food. The horchata had great flavor but desperately needs strained before being served. Good customer service.
Delightful little coffee shop! Amazing drinks friendly staff
The first time I actually left after waiting about 10 minutes in a mostly non-moving line, but I really wanted to give this place a chance so I went back another day. Service was friendly but super slow, as again there was only one person working. Mocha was hot and served in a ceramic mug, but flavor was weak (despite my request to go heavy on the chocolate). Oh well - you never know until you try.
Apparently this place decides when their rooftop is closed. We went to go to the rooftop after several locals had recommended this spot. Sadly, they close their rooftop bar at their discretion. I wouldnt recommend going there because you just dont know if theyre going to be open it closed. Its pretty disappointing.
Great service, coffee and food but unfortunately the tamales fall short because they are not made with traditional ingredients. I would Definitely try their other food options which are tasty and filled with cheese and chorizo!
Tasty offerings and a cozy, non-corporate indie vibe. Sweet place. You should support it!
Fun little coffee shop. You will not be disappointed
Super cute little coffee shop! Great ambiance, good music, good pastry snack options, with a really wide range of coffee-based drinks. Only thing is there are a lot of fancy coffee options in the $5-ish range that you can only see by waiting for their tv-screen menu to cycle through. It would have been nice to have some [plain] staples posted for general reference.
Im only giving this review because the guy working this morning cheated me out of what Id ordered. He gave me an 8 or 12 oz Hazelnut White Chocolate Mocha, but charged me for a 16 oz drink. I dont know if he was having a bad morning or felt interrupted, but this is the first time Ive had a bad experience there. In fact, just a few days ago the woman working there was very kind and super friendly...and she made a great drink! The dude in the v-neck and cap could learn a lot from her about customer service and competency.
Awesome small cafe shop in downtown. Great unique selection of tea and coffee and free wifi. Good music. Definitely a good spot to stop in the morning.
Empanadas are very good. Ok ambience to hang out, but not super comfortable. Free WiFi.
Love the Mexican mocha and tamales!! Im looking forward to trying their other drinks and food. I also really appreciate that some of the proceeds on Saturdays go toward social justice causes.
Nice staff, cute little place. Almond orchata latte was lovely, alfajores was a bit dry and crumbly.
Cool place but very small. Not enough tables.
I LOVE THIS CAFE! It is super cozy and reminds me of my childhood. I feel super comfortable here, the baristas are friendly. And the chilled Cafe de Olla is my favorite drink ever.
I love this coffee house. They are super friendly, have great drinks and the best pastry too. Love, love, love them, I am working my way though the menu, and so far, everything has been superb.
Best cold brew. Awesome food and great atmosphere.
Terrible food. It seems like maybe they get their rolls from Food 4 Less. The young woman at the counter would not give me any guidance as to what they had for sale. I asked if the sandwiches on the bottom shelf were what was pictured on the wall she said no (they were). I told her I would be eating part of it here but to place in a to-go bag because I’d be leaving. There was no one ahead of me but instead of starting my food she cleaned and did other things. After a long time had passed I reminded her it did not need to be fully heated she said “I know” and then got the sandwich out of the fridge. After more time had passed I said please just give me the sandwich at whatever temp it is. She threw it in a bag and dropped the bag on the counter and turned around. I said “I’m never coming back here” and left. She FOLLOWED ME OUTSIDE AND STOOD IN MY WAY AGGRESSIVELY. She told me I should have been more clear I was in a hurry. I told her she needed to get out of my way, she was acting like she wanted to fight!Crazy. And I came in with a good mood and had tipped her $1 on a $3 sandwich, there was no reason for her nastiness. And the following me outside was threatening and beyond inappropriate.
Good coffee. Good barista. The pastries look delicious!
You know their coffee is fantastic but today was my last day here. Over 20 minutes to just put my order in the toaster, extremely rude girl at the counter and just no apologies.I want to love this place. But seriously 30 minutes to heat up a Ham & Cheese Pantzin. Ridiculous.
This place was adorable. Great vibes with amazing pictures of Revolutionist from all over the world. Their tamales are delicious and so was their atole. Next time looking frorward to trying their horchata latte.
Had champurrado for the first time with a shot of espresso. So good!! Their atole was amazing too. And can we talk about the flan?! Omg, for only $4 it was absolutely delicious!!! Been trying to come back, but theyre usually closed before I get out of work. Im glad I came in during my day off. All I do is dream about going back! Gracias!!
Great coffee, and the empanadas and tamales are fantastic. They also have a good selection of more interesting drinks for the curious. Great location and decor as well.
A hidden gem of a coffee spot and one of my favorites! They have some great options for food and drink. Dont be afraid to try something different (I recommend the Champurado!). The staff is friendly and helpful. Its a small shop, but theres about 20 seats, including some comfy chairs. Their tres leches is quite good too (though youll want a big appetite or a friend to split a piece with!). Enjoy!
I ordered a hot chocolate and it was very bland. It tasted like a little bit of cocoa powder with cinnamon mixed into hot milk. I also had the rice pudding and it was very tasteless as well. All I could taste was the cinnamon and the rasins. The actual pudding was very disappointing.
Finally, a cafe that doesnt just do the basics or whats trendy. Just real dedication to Mexican drinks and the creativity to go further. Even the simple coffee is great and new to me.
Excellent variety of Latin inspired food and beverages. I really enjoyed my time here.
Nice place, very quiet in the morning. Really good traditional coffees.
Im from Jerez Zacatecas, Mexico. The Cafe de olla, is perfect. Champurrado perfect, I can keep going. Like someone said a time ago, it reminded me my grandmas cooking grate food aswomwe coffee.
The coffee is goodBut boy howdy, I felt nickeled and dimedMy personal cup is 32 ounces. I drink decaf.I ordered a quad shot, iced americanoIt cost $6.50$3.50 for an Americano$2.50 for the extra shots$0.50 for ICEIt wasn’t $6 goodThen I asked for a frequent buyer cardThey said they only give stamps for hot drinksOk. Never mindI just won’t be back(The treats looked goodThe vegan rice pudding was ok. I was happy to see it available but it was a little bland.)
Terrific coffee and treats! Great atmosphere. One of the best downtown.
Loved the coffee, the pizza-like bagel (from Seattles Best, I think), and the easygoing ambience
There are a TON of coffee shops in Portland, but Revolución might be my favorite. Not only do they have some unique, tasty Mexican pastries (Marionberry empanada!), But also solid espresso drinks and a comfy atmosphere. Came here twice in a four day trip because the pastries were just that good.
Love this little shop! Great coffee and even have fresh tamales.
The staff is so friendly! Cute place with festive vibe. Good pastries.
Loved the food but I wish they had a bit more seating area.
Amazing coffee with great choice of treats... Sweet and savory.
Great coffee and no wait time. Excellent service!
The food and drinks were great. The person behind the counter seemed a little rushed but it was pretty busy when I was there. My least favorite part was the lack of seating. I ended up finding a seat outside but if youre looking to sit down for a while, this might not be a good place for you.
Mexican mochas were delicious! Great little spot to grab a cup of coffee and get some laptop work done.
Sue, sue away. 1619
This place was a pleasant surprise to find downtown. It doesnt stay open late beyond the afternoon but the Mexican coffee Olla, tamales, empanadas, and flan are sooooo good. I went here three times during my stay in Portland! Highly recommend.
The best place in town, Maria is a badass.
Love this place!! Very authentic, locally-owned coffee store that has many unique products not available anywhere else. I recommend the Cafe de Olla (coffee brewed with molasses and cinnamon) as well as the Atoles (Traditional Mexican beverage made from corn or masa). Their desserts and pastries are also VERY good. Only problem is that its a small space and can get crowded some times. But I can understand why!
Really good character, makes a fusion of a Mexican abuelita place with pictures of Mexican revolution, and a trendy hipster twist. Ill definitely go back.
