I really like their clothes.. there a thrift store with a lil bit of everything... good prices
A fantastic friendly shop of gentle resale and consignment. Clothes, kitchen, kids items, even the lccasional piece of furniture. And the patio out back has indoor and oitdoor items. Art and art supplies, books, simply everything. And because they buy and consign there is a constantly changing assortment of clothing and other items.
Oh what a fun little thrift store all my gosh they have a little bit of everything staff is always Pleasant and I never leave there without buying something
Cute little thrift shop.. Kinda spendy in the coat area but I got A SUPER cute little lock box for only 10 bucks!! 😁
Such a great place!!! Reasonable prices, and they usually have some plus size too!
This place is so neat and eclectic! I love to poke around here and see what cool stuff they have in. It’s all consignment or used so it’s always the most unique stuff. I like supporting secondhand spots and the staff who work here are always super fun and helpful! I have some of my favorite treasures sourced here so whoever is doing the buying has a seriously good eye!
I cant even walk by this place without buying something(s) because theyve got great stuff at great prices. Also, I love the people who run it, and the feel of the shop. They are great for consignment too...Im torn between keeping it a secret so it doesnt change and getting the word out to support a local business!!
Love this place! I always walk out of here with a pair of shoes (mostly to resell, but also for myself sometimes). Fair prices, nice interior, fairly friendly staff, good location!
I have LOVED this store since day 1! The buyer has been so consistent & gifted & I have found some of my favorite vintage items here, always so thrilled that they fit, uncommon for my size! It’s a rare visit that I spend less than $150. I have raved about this store and about the buyer’s sense of style over the years & since I live two blocks away, I have sent every friend & Air Bnb guest of mine over the last 5 years to check it out as well! I have truly seen the store as a central part of the Kenton community I’ve been living in for the last 18 years. Like some of the other reviews mention, I have also noticed the declining employee kindness, mostly assuming it was a random person’s bad day. I’ve focused on the remaining charming exchanges I have had. I just have consistently enjoyed treasure hunting there so much, the increasingly imperfect customer service wasn’t going to scare me away.Until tonight. The annual business trick or treat event. While waiting for my kids to finish their turn through the store my friends & I shopped the racks outside. I found something & realized as I got to the counter I hadn’t brought my wallet with me. The older blond haired woman I spoke with was grumpy from the start, before our exchange so I initially didn’t take offense to her negativity. I asked her if she could hold it until the next day when I could come back with my wallet. She said she could only hold it till morning. I started to say, “great!” but then realized y’all open after I am already at work. I asked if she could hold it until the end of the day & I would buy it on my way home. She said no she can’t hold items longer than a day. I asked what time they closed this night she said 7pm, all the while trying to problem solve...mulling over solutions in my head as to how to make this happen & she is clearly getting increasingly short & agitated with me. She told me people say they’ll pick stuff up all the time & don’t & she can’t make exceptions. So I tried to reassure her that I live down the street & shop here often & she again says no exception, adding that it wouldn’t be “fair” and I reiterated that I wanted the item, that I lived down the street, that I come in regularly...and as I was fishing in my pocket for the $5 I had grabbed on the way out, to offer a down payment, she yanks the item from my hands, & raises her voice to tell me that if I want to argue with her she doesn’t have to sell it to me at all. I was shocked. It was literally the middle of a family FUN outing. Her reactivity was so inappropriate for the situation! I reminded her it was a Halloween celebration night & told her I wasn’t arguing and that I was sorry she was feeling that way and again, you could see that she’d already gotten a story about me in her head, including this perception that there was a fight happening! She then told me I needed to leave and I told her my kids were in there and after I saw the kids depart, I just said I guess I’ll just need to write this on Yelp and she says fine you do that. So! Here I am...confused and broken hearted that the store I have loved and enjoyed and championed has been taken over by such hostility. I am pretty sure that woman wasn’t the owner and I am just confused again as to the level of hostility, reactivity and violent communication especially in the middle of a family friendly event. Not sure where to go from here and would hate to think I need to stop shopping there..? This is my home and neighborhood and that just feels like the grossest option! When my friends saw me walk out empty handed, I told them the woman refused to sell it to me and told me to leave, they all put down their Items also and left with me. Tragic all the way around. Especially as I read the other negative reviews. Not what I imagine anyone, myself included, would want to see written or would want to have to write about a beloved local store. Did the more experienced and open staff get moved to the new location? What kind of plan is in place to address the recent lapses in customer service? Thanks for hearing me...so sad!
This is a cute local mid century modern leaning shop that I never leave empty handed. Prices are extremely competitive compared to other area thrift/ consignment shops and they always have fun and funky things. Ive scored expensive brand messenger bags for a third of the online used price, fabulous vintage coats for $10, and random kitchen ware and outdoor accessories. Their boot selection is out of this world. Definitely worth stopping by if you are in the Kenton area.
I went into this store on a Saturday and had an at length conversation with the gal at the desk...she told me if I bring in my box of Levi’s, or even email the lady with pictures, that she would buy from me in bulk.I came back on Sunday and the ladies were SO RUDE TO ME at the front desk...it felt like they couldn’t be bothered and stuck their nose up at the items I brought in.....I will NOT be visiting this store again and I will pass the word on to my friends and family!SO SO SO RUDE!!!!!!i have lived in North Portland my entire life and I think this little lady at the counter needs to get into a different line of work!!!!!!THANKS FOR NOTHIN!!!!!Why do you feel the need to talk down to people and diminish them...?????you must have a rotten life....it takes less energy to smile than it does to frown!!!!!!
This place is the best! Rad peeps, cool stuff, excellent prices. An authentic thrift shop with personality and pizazz. My favorite thrift shop in Portland - and with their trade/consignment option, I basically never have to feel guilty about shopping! No Chelsea, youre the best! :)
I’ve been coming into give and take for two years now, and I’ve felt really frustrated by how poorly I’ve been treated by the staff in the last serval months when I have been in. I have never even written a bad review for a place before, But I feel like at this point I need to. The last few time I went in the staff spoke down to me, followed me around the store and watched me with hawks eyes. I understand theft is a major issue for small businesses, but it’s incredibly rude to make these kind of assumptions about someone based on appearance! The most recent time I went in I had forgotten to check in with the cashier before I went in, and was literally yelled at by the person working. I told her how many items I had an apologized and was still given a really awful look. When I went to the counter to check out the staff member did apologize to me for the interaction, but I still don’t feel like this was an okay way to treat a customer.
I love the items in the store and the prices are reasonable for what they have. Its a great variety of home goods/apparel/furniture, and most everything is in great condition.Ive been going here for a few years now and I have to be honest- the customer service has slowly declined. The people who currently work there have been less than friendly and helpful (most of the time). It seems like Im a burden if I ask a question/need to drop off items to sell/etc. Its disappointing because I do love the store, but I will not continue to go there if the service and attitude stay so negative.
Its tiny. Just not a lot of selection. If you are used to the wide open spaces of Goodwill you may want to bring a paper bag to breathe into as you browse, which wont take very long due to their very limited selection. Did I mention their lack of selection? Smells good and no one gave me the watchful eye while I was there. This is a matter of personal taste. Do you like a homey vibe with three shirts in your size? Or will you tolerate the sterile, fluorescent aura of Big Thrift, because they can actually give you a choice? Unfortunately, me too...
Great shop! The staff was helpful and knowledgeable. I was just there to shop, but overheard some consigning going on and it sounded like the sellers get a pretty good deal! The shop had a really strong community feel. The people behind the counter seemed familiar with a lot of the shoppers and employees from other shops popped in to say hi and chat. The shop is good sized with a lot of variety. Im excited to go back and get me some Fiestaware!
One of the last few thrift shops that doesnt try to charge you $50 for an old tshirt. Prices are reasonable, theres always a revolving door of great selection items, from clothing and household items to random other cool finds. They pay pretty decent for in store credit too. Love shopping here.
Fantastic neighborhood shop carrying home goods - fun and ever changing selection. Great prices!
Cool thrift store. I travel a lot and live hitting local t stores when I have down time. This one was pretty cool. Great selection of cowboy boots.
This place has good quality clothing. Some of which was originally purchased from boutiques so you can find unique fashion pieces here. BE ADVISED they do not BUY used clothes or other merchandise. They offer you a price for it that is given in store credit immediately. If you want cash instead of store credit, they will CONSIGN your merchandise for you and pay you in cash once it is SOLD. Either way, they only take what they know they can sell fast. They get busy during buying hours so dont come inundate them with piles of dirty clothes expecting immediate cash. Its not a garage sale. Just looking out for my girls!
This place is great. I consign, but rarely see a check as there is always new, fun, odd, and useful stuff to put the $ towards. Staff are nice & the place is neatly packed with everything from clothes to art! Be sure to check out the patio, theres tons of great stuff for the garden tucked away back there!
This used to be the last resale store where I could find affordable, funky clothes. Now I walk in and no one greets me, everything is overpriced for the quality and the peraon at the counter refuses to engage in polite convo or even smile- just gave me a flat stare that bordered on contempt. The lack in quality of their selection and poor interpersonal skills doesn’t warrant the recent price hike. I do believe that was my very last visit to the Give and Take
This place is unbelievable. The owner is extremely rude to her customers! I saw her accuse a customer of stealing then it turned out that the object in question was in a different place. She didnt even apologize! Another time I overheard her speaking terribly rude to another customer in front of several people. Also, there is absolutely nothing of value here. It is basically an overpriced Goodwill store. There are far too many other used stuff shops in PDX to be going here. Anywhere else is better. Try Hawthorne area for better stuff.
Great merchandise, but poor customer service from management. Customer complaints are dealt with in a hostile manner. The truth is, I told the store manager she needed to fix her bad attitude as I was leaving the store. There were no laws broken, use of profane language, name calling or interruption to business activity other than speaking with the owner. I admonished her manager as I was exiting the store (of my own volition). This discussion with the owner the next day and a follow-up phone call demonstrated her bias in lack of knowledge, cooperation, fairness and concern. She admitted presumptuously deciding to ban me from the store upon her manager’s retaliatory response w/o soliciting any communication with me (the customer) whatsoever.I’ve been a longstanding customer for 6 years with no conflict because I remained silent about the negative atmosphere the staff imposed on me and others over the years. I tolerated and was witness to others being treated in an unfriendly manner. The reviews speak for themselves.Chelsea’s response remains intolerable and blatantly biased.. She’s extremely defensive (to the point of exaggeration) and has taken my complaint to a personal level.Customer satisfaction has no value here and complaints are intolerable. I recommend trying “Chase Me Again” in Gresham. This consignment store is bigger, always pleasant and helpful and have similar offerings.
Great little second hand shop, just about everything you could be looking for and more.
Fun place to buy..great place to consign your stuff. Beats having a garage sale. They get a good price for your stuff. Fun staff.
Neat little shop, lots of unique items and decently organized, fair prices.
The employee/cashier is so rude. I thought she’s being racist but after reading all the other reviews I guess she’s just troubled. Great store, the price’s not bad, would’ve gotten sth if not for the poor customer service. Won’t be back again.
Ive come here 2x. Both times I got 1 item. Ladies at front counter never greet you, but have time to talk and laugh together doing nothing behind the counter? The first time, the lady wasnt nice at all, just silence beyond telling me my total. I thought she might be having a rough day. Today, it wasnt busy when I was there, but there was still no nicety. I dont appreciate having my items shoved into my hands as Im still putting the money away. Its just a shirt, and there isnt a line. Not even a have a good day at the end.The clothes I got are fine, good price and were in good condition. But I can get the same at one of the other portland shops and be treated much better while Im at it.
Wonderful shop with wonderful friendly women working there. I had no problem finding a unique GODZILLA toy that will perfectly go with.... Everything. I will return there again.
I love the products in this store but the customer service is really really terrible. people are so rude and act like you’re a huge burden for needing or saying anything.
I came across your store website and was reading the comments and reviews. Seems that alot of costmers, even returning customers are unhappy with your employees and/or how they interact. When one of you responds to their mishap it reads a bit like no accountability. Then when I read a positive comment the reply is a short phrase and no content. Just a heads up with people > the energy we put out even before we speak says alot, furthermore when interacting and selling products manners, decency, and compassion go a long way. You can change someones day to be brighter or down right blah. Dont you want to make a positive day for every single person that walks through that door? It doesnt take much and if were moody fake it till you make it!
Great local consignment. Friendly staff. Occasionally too chatty with each other and dont really often appear to be working. Still sweet though.
I really like shopping at Give and Take. You can always find something unique.
Very nice quaint shop! Reasonable prices and cool products! Also very close to the community with local vendors and a convenient location!
I really like this store. I spend a lot of time and money here because Im local and love their selection (kinda expensive though). Only knocking off some stars because one of their employees is constantly so rude and snappy and I wont go in there if she is working. This person has been snappy to me for trying to bring clothes back from the dressing room- she said are you returning these, yes??? well how was i supposed to know??? um, ok? I thought that was the procedure? And to two of my friends for wanting to look at some stuff from the case only ONE AT A TIME all loud and rude when they were wanting to see a ring from a single tray. We are all grown adult women just shopping and this really made the experience in this store unpleasant. This employee is just a rude person and I wouldnt want her working at my business.
Give and Take Resale always has cool and interesting finds. I never leave empty handed.
Quirky, selection of items ranging from utilitarian to artsy. Friendly staff. Great place to cosign or sell. Fun to browse.
Great prices, but the selection is pretty small throughout the store. I found a lot of Anthropologie and Madewell for under $15 a piece, so they seem to keep prices lower than Buffalo Exchange. As for housewares, the prices seemed reasonable as well as the quality. Definitely a place to check out if you have some free time!
Has a great selection of all sorts of things. I definitely found some cute clothes there.
Because of the owner I wish I could give the courtesy of the new staff a 5 star,The store has many great things, but the atmosphere and customer service has changed. I have been a customer here for several years. Nice small, unique shop.. something for everyone..The amount of business and customers have increase, therefore its super busy and I get it, but the quality of the customer service has greatly change. Chelsea is a people person, did not make me feel uncomfortable or like Im being watched, rushed, unwelcomed, (ignore me with no eye contact, never smiles) while I was trying to communicate with her as her customer.I am not commenting about all the staff, but there is one and that made a big difference to me as a customer. When I was ready to sign my signature, this young lady (who has been rude towards me on multiple occasions) could have nicely told me she would hold the pad for me and the reason why.... and not do...what appeared to abruptly grabbed it just as I was ready to sign my name. She never said a word, such as thank you, ect; Also when I brought in my items. Another young lady asked me if Id like to sell, trade or do consignment. I said I would like to do both. So I told her both. To my surprise, she told me I could only do one or the other, not both. I told her trade and put it on my acct...When I as about Chelsea to speak with her, I was told she never comes in to the store, to send her an email, she checks those...plus I was not given a receipt, no invoice, no customer acct. number with an invoice number for my clothing they put on consignment and nothing was put on my books and there was no trade.Im not sure I should be trading and putting items on consignment or trade here anymore. I use to spend lots of money here, but Im afraid to trust them. You are not allowed to stand or invited/asked by the ladies to watch as they go through the items You bring in the store. You are not told what they are charging the you or paying you for your trade and the items they put on consignment, plus they take 50% of the sale.
Fun place to see new amd old designs and watch people transfom themselves. see people cluthing clothes thsn wii chage their lives
Terrific materials - clean and well shipped
Down the rabbit hole of time and kitsch. Lovingly collected.
***SELLER BEWARE!*** Make sure to read their messed up policies before selling here!THIS IS A SCAM! Not only was the staff rude and unhelpful, but this is NOT consignment! They sift through your stuff behind their counter so you cant see what theyre taking and then they do not pay you for what they have taken, nor do they provide any type of receipt or record of anything you leave! The cherry on top was when they told me that if my things do not sell in six months then I will see no profit and my items will then belong to the store and you have no choice to take anything back?! WHAT??? This is a goodwill thats NOT a charity.
Great selection and great prices. Fun to browse. Also pay really well when consigning.
The best place to find everything ❤
I love having this shop in the neighborhood!!! I did not have experience with consigning before I found this place, and my only regret is that I havent been doing it for years. I have consigned clothes, dishes, housewares, and even a little furniture. I check back every couple of months(and do a little shopping while Im there) and I still leave with a check. Doesnt get any better that that!
Im always finding cool and stylish clothes there! Friendly staff and funky fashions . Love that its a five minute walk from my pad, keeping it local
1 review1.0 star rating4/14/2016I have been a customer from time to time at this store for several years but during the last few visits I have noticed some snobby behavior and even some downright disrespectful behavior of some of the employees towards their customers. Today I tried to return a hat that I had purchased just a minute before realizing that it was too small for my head. The employee pointed to a sign that said all sales are final as he insulted my over-all character. I wont give my business to this store again. I wonder how businesses with this sort of mentality manage to survive while alienating their customer base.
One of the best thrift stores around for variety of unique items. Only the games section is a bit small.
Ive spent hundreds of dollars in this shop-- I just love their stuff, its all awesome. But every time I shop, whoever the clerk is makes me feel really bad for being there. Theyre rude. I mean, Im not the slowest shopper in the world, but every time I go in they make me feel like Im in there for too long. This time, the lady warned me (the only patron in the store) 15 minutes before the store closed, and as I was standing at the front desk getting ready to pay 5 minutes before close time, glancing at earrings on display, she told me, Ok, Im gonna have to call it... by which she meant, Youre taking too long, get out now.... well, Im sorry for spending some time trying to buy stuff. Wont happen again.
Fabulous store, polite owner, clean, friendly, open, large variety, eco friendly, fair prices
Nice shop, with lots of variety and fair prices.
Super cute consignment/thrift (ish) store. Great prices and small, cute curated selection.
The people here are amazing. Great stuff!
Cute store, but the employees are SO RUDE. We stop in about 2-3 times a month & my kids call it the grouchy lady store. We play a game of being as friendly as we can to see if we can cheer up this one sour puss that never greets customers. Our hello has been ignored every time. Another customer said this is how they treat people of color. Can that be? Or are they equally rude to white people?
I LOVE this shop! My favorite store in Kenton!
Great shop, nice staff and there are cool knick knacks in here
Fun and funky resale with great prices
Awesome consignment store, I found love here
Super Cute Resale shop!
