Been here couple time, their lobster roll is different then others, and one of the top place around the town to have a lobster roll.Eat it right away, don’t wait, because hot bun made the roll 10 times better.

They always have super fresh local seafood from local boats. Also have a good selection of beer and various vegetables. Also have really good lobster rolls. They give you a good amount of meat compared to other places which skimp. The only thing that keeps is from being 5 stars is that the owner should really add the ability to tip the workers on a debit purchase.

I came for the lobster roll. That was amazing. Hands down an out and out winner. However, it was yhe crab roll that bowled me over.

Friendly staff and really fresh seafood. Its not going to be cheap but its worth it. Their wild salmon has changed the minds of more than a couple people who previously thought they disliked salmon.

This place is beyond terrific. Really great fresh fish as well as assorted pasta and other food. All very high quality. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. But... they make the best lobster rolls my wife and I have ever had! And we have had a lot of them over the years. I highly recommend Sanders - I make sure to stop there on my way up and down from Maine.

I stopped by Sanders Fish Market and saw a big bag of fresh fiddleheads they were getting ready to sell. The staff was friendly. Fiddleheads arent particularly well known outside of New England and the Maritime Provinces, so it was kind of neat to stumble on a bag of them. Fiddleheads are amazing, but I figured Id put something a little more postcard-friendly up.

Bought a bunch of lobsters to take to friends in Michigan. The guy who helped me coordinate this (I think his name was Will) was amazingly helpful. I would have given 5 stars, except for the incredibly rude female employee who loudly and agressively snapped at me to get out when I first walked in with my coolers. Apparently they limit the number of customers to 4 at a time due to COVID. This is reasonable, but it was not clearly posted nor is the shop set up to easily count the customers from outside. And there is NO reason to be that rude. If I find out that she, in any way, owns part of the company, I will not be back. Otherwise, Id be more than happy to have Will wait on me again.

Went in this morning for the fresh bay scallops at $39.99 a pound. Asked for 1lb, was checking out and realized they gave me sea scallops that were $21.99 a pound. Asked to fix the situation and was told these were bay scallops and no way to change the order. As you can see from photo these are not bay scallops.

Top notch lobster in the lobster roll. Didnt buy any fish from the counter because I ran out of time in town, but it was fresh and local. Cool selection of beers too (plus soft drinks/kombucha etc) in the back, and nice people running the shop. Cant wait to be back.

Sanders is such an amazing place.. the real bees knees for locals.. the staff is so kind and amazing they always remember my name and the names of all the regulars.. with the best fish in town how can you go wrong.. plus they sell fish to every restaurant so if you went out in Portsmouth odds are your already a customer

Just bought (and ate!) a lobster roll from here, based on an internet search. Excellent roll, served on a hamburger bun, which is not classic but the lobster more than made up for it. Also picked up some salmon for dinner. Very clean and friendly place. Ill be back!

One of the best lobster rolls I ate in the southern Maine/New Hampshire area! Take a few minutes and walk over to their lobster pound, its interesting for a midwesterner like me!

This rating is for their service during COVID. Called to request a phone order (60 plus age group). Told no you have to come in. Went in. 4 people inside. Only one other customer wearing a mask. I was here in March and we ordered two lobster rolls and a cup of chowder. The sandwiches were out of this world--- a toasted brioche roll chock full of fresh meaty lobster. The chowder was fresh, hot and delicious. Sandwiches come with a small bag of top quality chips. Drinks are available in a cooler. My friend also bought halibut and salmon cakes from the fish case to take home for cooking later.. . reportedly they were the best ever eaten. This place only has a couple tables, and they offer 4 seafood type sandwiches only. A great place for a lunch sandwich!!

Stopped by on 3/12/16 and picked up three pounds of Steamers and six Lobsters totaling over 10 lbs. Workers were very nice and friendly. Must say the Steamers were some of the best I have ever tasted. And as advertised no grit. Now the Lobsters. . .WOW. . . Steamed them myself and they were some of the sweetest and juiciest Lobster meat I have ever tasted. Juicy, sweet, and yummy: didnt use any butter just a little squeeze from a fresh lemon.

Not quite as good as Harbor fish, but the fish looked fresh - flounder, salmon, tuna, hake, trout. No sole. In the prepared food section there was clam chowder $6, lobster stew $17, fish chowder $7 for 8 oz container. Oysters were available for 1.5 each. Deamascotta oysters.

I stood in line for 20 mins with only one lady in front of me. The people working there had no idea what they were doing or what was going on at all. Asking the lady in front of me stupid questions that had nothing to do with the transaction. I just wanted my smoke salmon and to leave as I have done there many times. Then had no clue why I was upset 20 flipping minutes behind 1 woman in line 20 minutes. Ridiculous so Now Im taking my business to Taylor lobster company instead.

One of the few places Ive been able to find finnan haddock. Fresh seafood all looked great. Friendly staff and nice location only a short walk from down town.

Great staff although never encountered the Owner which the other reviewer complained about and might not participate on the customer service side anymore. Come here specifically for Carpe Diem coffee which isnt served at many establishments. Tuna roll is the emergency go-to if I need lunch in this area which is piled on tuna with plenty of veggies and hearty bread. I try to avoid the local bakery items they bring in but cant always fight the urge for homemade quality brownies she makes.

Outrageously over-priced fish...this family run fish market might as well steal your wallet the minute you step over the threshold into their store. I went in to buy Wild King Salmon, which they had priced as $30 a lb! The market price for that is between $ 12-15 a lb...doubling the price on fish just because Portsmouth has turned into Yuppyville is not acceptable for the long-time residents of Portsmouth. The Sanders Family should be ashamed of themselves for falling into the greediness of this business & trying to pull the wool over their customers eyes! Makes me absolutely sick!!! Save youre money & go someplace that hasnt lost their integrity & honesty!
