A great kayaking place In Princeton.I prefer this location over the other one even though it is the same canal. The other location has narrower canals and more bugs from my experience. This canal was decently wide and for the most part bug free. Rentals are reasonably priced as well. We even got to see some turtles! It runs very long so if you love kayaking, you’ll have a blast for the day.I would recommend going on a day that isn’t too hot because you won’t get much shade here due to a wide canal. Overall, a really great kayaking place in Princeton area!
We could not have had a more pleasant experience. We showed up while they were cleaning up from some pretty major flooding, but they waded through it all and quickly got us kitted out and launched. All the staff were friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.
It was crowded labor day weekend but we only waited 10 minutes after we paid and got our lifejackets. They even over estimated it to be a 45 minute wait. It was a lot of fun for people who don’t normally canoe or kayak in any capacity. We rented a 3 bench canoe for one hour. It fit my family of two adults 3 kids... a 7yo a 5yo and an 18mo. I was very happy to find a place that would allow my youngest to go on the boat. They had special “infant” sized lifejackets. My 18mo sat on the floor of the canoe in front of me. I was on the front bench while my husband was on the back bench and the girls shared a seat in the middle. It fit us perfectly but in a year or so we will have to get separate canoes or kayaks. At no point did we expect or rely on the kids to help us row. My husband did most of the work on the way back because our 18mo became impatient and started to reach over the side to feel the water. We probably lasted 45 minutes in the water. I will say it was well organized and seemed to be run entirely by young people weather teenagers or college kids. I didn’t see a single older adult working there. So the Negative COVID related issues: They were not enforcing the mask rule in the boat launch area which they had a sign up saying to wear masks. The life vests were being handled and not worn when people tried them on and realized it was the wrong size then they were put right back. So there was a lot of unnecessary touching. And then they didn’t clean the boats in between renters. Which I can understand on a busy day they were trying to get people in and out but a quick spray and wipe down of touch points would have been nice. I noticed we unloaded our vests and oars in a certain spot when we were done so Im assuming they cleaned them before putting them back. We also had to fill out a waiver before the start. All in all a good trip. They were working very hard and were very nice.
This is awesome. I mean took a 2 hour ride and it was beautiful canoeing through the river. Then after that took a walk alongside the trail of the river and that was fabulous. It has to be experienced and cannot be described
My daughter returned from girl scout camp with a newfound love of kayaking. She kept asking us to go and eventually timing was right and we headed to Griggstown. The staff was friendly and perfectly helpful. There was no instruction but we didnt ask for it and TBH, none was necessary.
A very pleasant experience! Was my first time kayaking and the staff was really kind.So nice to have a place not too far away, and very affordable. Hope to come back more often!
Loved the canal...great kayaking and the boats are very good. Great variety to choose from. You can also take your bike and do 3-5 easy miles on the path by the canal.
Great experience: easy parking, forms were filled out quickly, just a brief wait and they had us out in the kayaks. Staff was friendly and helpful. They provide dry bags for a small fee, and also have refreshments. Great way to spend a day. Even on a busy day, there was plenty of time where we were alone on the canal. Very tranquil!
Nice way to spend an hour or so. Good value.
Awesome experience for a great price. Liam was friendly and extremely helpful
Great spot for a nice hour of canoe or Kayak. Establishment has plenty of options between single, tandem kayaks, two seater and 3 seater canoes . Prices where also reasonable and seems like a good spot to spend some time on a Kayak and get some sun. There’s is plenty of shaded spots in the canal which is nice and is also near plenty of walking and biking trails. Best part of it our two dogs loved it and had a blast.
The less than 5 star review reflects the lack of communication and need for improved signage at the check-in area of this business. The kayaking on this stretch of the canal is perfectly fine, it was just the beginning of our experience that was less than wonderful. We arrived at 9:40 for a 10:00 opening reservation and were in the water about an hour later which in my opinion was too long to wait if you had an advance reservation. We were at the beginning of the loosely formed line and spent the time observing the harried staff scrambling to get the equipment ready. It appeared they should have been starting the process much earlier especially since it was the Fourth of July weekend. It wasnt really clear where to form the line, there were no verbal directions or communications from the staff, or signage outlining a check-in procedure. Social distancing in the line was loosely observed and thankfully customers and staff were wearing face coverings. We had paid for our reservations online and also printed and filled out the required release form prior to arriving. When we reached the employee working the check-in area he asked for another form which we were unaware of since it was not mentioned on the website. He asked us to fill it out at another table where we found the form and a single pen and also other people in need of that same pen. When I asked if there were any more pens available the answer was no. Thankfully we only needed a single form for the 7 of us, but it would have been nice to know upfront. We certainly could have filled this form out during the 40 minutes or so of waiting in line. Thankfully we got past this situation and the dock staff were friendly and helpful both getting us in and out of the water. The time on the canal was fine too. It is my opinion this business would benefit from improved signage and/or better communication from the staff. This would greatly improve and speed up the check-in procedure and get people in the kayaks on the canal which is really where they want to be.
Best place to kayak, lucky to see painted turtles close by...
Relaxing rowing excursion. Pleasant outing.
NO OVERALL. First off, you and you’re family will have to come at a very good time to avoid the harsh wait in the sun and then come to realize you won’t be able to paddle in you’re desired kayak or boat. Secondly, the 2 seater that was provided for the 8 members of my family was extremely (I cannot stress this enough) dirty!!!!! The kayaks and boats are obviously not cleaned at all so say goodbye to any shoes that you bring with you. Next, the staff was completely laid back, it seemed as if every worker was a teen that thought they knew their job too well so it caused them to not care at all. Lastly, I will say the prices are decent for the hours you kayak. Really wasn’t a good experience at all and isn’t the best for certain families who aren’t willing to paddle the whole way.
Nice quite placeEnjoyed itAlhamdulillah
Easy to park, and a pleasant river trip
Great local spot for a little kayaking or canoeing. Wear clothes you dont mind getting wet, maybe bring a towel to dry off before getting back into the car. Ample parking available right next to dock area.
Its was a fun time..
The place was awesome but its too narrow than the place I did kayaking before. Pleasant and cool. The kayaking experience is okay but the climate was good. Best time to go is in the evening after 5p.m in summers.
Nice place to kayak in nj town
Affordable and good quality.
I had a very good time in direct contact with nature and of course kayaking. The staff is very nice and kind. Young people enjoying their job!The equipment is not perfect but its in very good state. And the best part of this adventure is what we can see and enjoy for miles: the beauty of nature. There is a free parking lot spacious enough for the visitors.I couldnt find any restrooms so I assume thats part of the adventure. In general, for the outdoor people, this is a must.
Not a bad spot, but paid for a full day and was only able to do two hours (hour out, hour back), due to the waterway being blocked. Would have been nice to know that prior to paying for a full day. Very disappointed.
Staff handling the checkin was extremely rude. Simply naturally unhelpful to explain their offerings when asked as well as to offer any suggestions.Once on the water; we had a great time! Very few places to stop along the canal to take a break or picnic.
Quiet, flat canal paddle. We saw lots of turtles, dragonflies, pond skimmers... Dredging was nearby, but easy to get round. Good mix of sun and shade, shade helped on a relatively hot day.Friendly service, very reasonably priced, and best of all, you pay when you return, so no sky high fees if you are late as we have seen in other places. Other good point is that they give you a water tight box for car keys etc included in the rental.I didnt know we had something this enjoyable this close to home, discovered by chance driving a few weeks ago. Glad we tried it out, looking forwards to going again.
Fun activity with friends & family!
This was awesome, a 25min drive from East Brunswick and nice adventure with the kids for the day. We saw lots of turtles too which the kids enjoyed.
It was a wonderful experience.
Beautiful scenery.
It was my first time and it was great 29 for an hour and it was just enough time to get acclimated with the surroundings and have a good time
Super relaxed atmosphere, very nice staff, the river has very little if any current which caters to a pleasant kayak experience
It was a perfectly gorgeous summer morning, so some of these starts might depend on the weather. But the canal is always beautiful, peaceful, calming - a great antidote to the worlds chaos.
Fun place to spend some time with family and friends. Parking at the back
Great time had by all 1st time we had fun and will definitely be back
Cool stream to kayak
Highly recommend
The Delaware & Raritan Canal is a great place for learning howto canoe & kayak.
We had a very good time. The employees are friendly and quick in getting all the paperwork done and launching the kayaks. In no time we were out in the water enjoying.
Friendly staff and reasonably priced.
Beautiful place to go on a date or enjoy yourself in peace ✌
Great place to rent t a canoe and stroll down the canal. Stuff is very friendly and prices are reasonable. Make sure to pack lunch and enjoy the shade.
Inexpensive and fun
Great place to kayak. Not a ton of people around.
Cool little place to kayak for beginners. You get a 2-3 mile stretch on the river. Slow water so easy to kayak up and back. Lots of turtles in the water. trees allow you to kayak in sun or shade. beautiful and serene.
Pleasant staff, scenic canal, cheap for a New Jersey activity.
Great place to just hang out in the canal
Peaceful small lake for kayaking. Economical. Great place to relax, kayak & get lost in the flow. Feels like from the movie Black water.
Really nice kayaks. Affordable rates. Beautiful shady peaceful canal. Snacks! Could not have asked for a better day.
Drive to this was amazing. Staff were very kind and so helpful. We were 5 friends reserved 3-single kayak and 1-canoe. Since it was flood before the day we arrived here, water smells bad and dirty. Other than that its a good place for friends and family to spend time.
Amazing place for spending with your buddy group, family or even couples. I am really scared of water but the twin seat kayak was amazing! Just learnt the strategy for turning left and right and rest was piece of cake. Amazing arm workout too ;) for the people who dont go to gym regularly :p
Really enjoyed myself here. The staff is cool the area was peaceful and the equipment was clean. I cant ask for too much more.
Great spot and prices. The staff doesnt seem enthused though.
Good collection of kayaks, boats. Good staff. Waterway is good but not as good as the one at Alexander road. You can still spot plenty of turtles and birds.
Peaceful, less crowded alternative to kayaking on Delaware River. Longest trip is to Blackwell Mills Rd Bridge, around 3 hours round-trip. Pleasant and helpful staff.
Great way to get a way from the city. Miguel was very helpful and got us set up very quickly. We had a great time!
We had a great time for our short canoe adventure. We were four adults and three kids each 3 years old. We went in two canoes. The staff were ready to get us in the water just as quickly as we were ready, but they never made us feel rushed. The equipment was clean, dry, and in perfectly fine condition. The canal is lovely when the weather is right. We had about 70 degrees, plenty of shade available if we wanted it, and plenty of sun when we wanted it. I might hold off if its 94 degrees, as it might be a tad swampy on those days. There was nearly no current so we had little challenge pulling our slightly-more-tired selves back. Were planning to return in the next couple of weeks to catch some more fall color.
Amazing place for few hours getaway from everything and just enjoy floating down the canal.
Friendly, reasonable. Beautiful canal
Somewhat pricey, but they provide a service for people like me who dont own their own kayak. They also need to maintain their kayaks better. I went out with a friend and both our kayaks had minor issues with the seats. It made for an uncomfortable ride until we figured out how to remedy it. If they took some time to check and maintain the kayaks this kind of problem could have been avoided.
Nice and quite place. Conoes are in good shape and staff is very friendly and helpful. Cheap too.
Great service, never had a problem!
Great spot to kayak the canals.
Easy access, friendly staff, and an ok selection of kayaks and canoes. In contrast to their other shop near lake Carnegie in Princeton, they had no longer single kayaks for larger folks for rent. The canal is easy to navigate, and becomes far less crowded once one gets about 0.5 mile away from the rental place. Once away from the crowds, sunbathing turtles, herond, etc can b spotted quite frequently.
Loved it! It was so much fun and very relaxing. Good prices too!
$30 for 2 hours of kayaking in a double kayak with life jackets and waterproof floating safety boxes. Very friendly guys running this age old rental shop which is right by the river.
Great spot for a quick ride down the canal. Staff are friendly and helpful.
This is a very good kayaking spot. Not too crowded and pleasant.
Wonderful one for kids & family ....
Nice trip in the canal.
Very good prices, and perfect location.
Excellent Place to spend couple of hours.Staff was very kind and prices are very reasonable too.
We had a great time. The perfect activity for a hot afternoon. So beautiful and peaceful. STaff was very helpful and there were picnic tables for lunch. Only porta pottys, though.
Friendly staff, adequate kayaks and canoes, nice place to paddle along
Had fun. Price was good.
Really fun for all of the family
Great experience the staff was helpful wit tips will be back again
Friendly boys, quality of kayaks are better. Affordable cost.
Amazing
Very friendly reasonable prices and a fun day with the family
A nice place to take out guests visting your place, very nearby to princeton and south brunswick. We enjoyed kayaking there. Good place to vist in summer and end of spring..
