Eight of us just completed a full day Fly Fishing Class, held outside by Scott Wood. Originally, the classroom portion was to be set up inside. Scott set up enough tables to accommodate the eight of us (Covid 6 ft between) under the trees where we watched red tailed hawks play overhead while we learned some great stuff.During the morning Classroom portion, Scott covered everything from types of flies for fresh water-- trout, bass, salmon and salt water fishing, plus rods, flies, line, leader and tippet . He brought such an assortment of flies that it more than covered an entire table. After demonstrating technique, we were provided a rigged rod and able to practice casting at an adjacent stocked pond. Scott made the rounds helping us find the sweet spot -- 1 o-clock to 10 o-clock.After an amazing lunch catered from Alpaca of grilled chicken, fried plantains, black beans and yucca (totally delicious) we reviewed knots. Scott provided notes on everything covered, a fly fishing booklet, and a container of most used flies to get us started. He was more than experienced, having traveled and fly fished some of the more remote streams across the US and Canada and most helpful in sharing his hard earned info on some pretty cool spots. We ended a beautiful day with many of us catching trout and bass with our new found technique--a total of about 3-4 hours casting and fishing--so lots of muscle memory and fun .Watch for Scotts class to be advertised. It fills up fast, is a great refresher too. IT IS A MUST NOT MISS!
Super cool. The Raleigh store didnt have the size I needed so they emailed Chapel Hill. I slid in on two wheels minutes before they closed. They had already pulled my shoes and had me on my way without missing a beat. Great selection of both stores and knowledgeable staff. Go!
Went to buy a kayak and was impressed with the customer service and knowledge. Went above and beyond what most stores do to make sure I was happy with my purchase. He got my boat outfitted just perfect for me and showed me the ropes. Best service I have had in a long time. Will be a customer for life.
Went here to purchase a kayak and the staff were extremely knowledgeable. Somehow there was some misinformation about the model I purchased so I returned it to upgrade and Eric who sold me the kayak took care of everything. By far the most knowledgeable staff and the customer service is unmatched. The entire experience was easy and they took this as an opportunity to correct a mistake and earn a customer. This is my first time shopping with Great Outdoor Provision Co. but through this experience I will be a life long customer. Truly 5 stars seems an understatement of how satisfied I am.
My husband, son and I came to look for some clothing, trying to enjoy the day. My husband is a retired Special Forces Veteran and suffers from quite a few things that I don’t feel the need to mention. As we walked in the guy at the counter asked my husband if he had a mask, when he replied no the man told him he had to leave the store. Got it, a lot of people have convinced themselves that this little thin mask is saving the lives of so many. Ignorant, yes, but got it. My husband gladly walked out, saying that he would never spend another dime in that store. I do not think they realized me and my son Were with him because as he left they totally mocked him and said what a shame their were so many angry people out there, basically laughing at him and then discussing proper mask etiquette?!?!? I then let them know he was a disabled vet and had every right to feel the way he did as did they. It was very disheartening to me that people treat others this way. Heaven forbid people say the wrong word or phrase and you are banned from life but others can say whatever they like, if you are on the other side. I was disgusted and will never return. Not that they care because clearly they don’t. It’s a shame and a slap in the face for my husband and our family that spent our whole lives supporting our freedoms, that unfortunately now that he is retired and can, can’t even try to enjoy life. Be better! You have no clue what people have endured. Have a little understanding and compassion.
The sign on the door says that customers who have been fully vaccinated (like dogs?) may have the privilege of shopping without a mask on—even though all the employees are wearing masks, and any customer whos still afraid of catching the coof has had an opportunity to get the jab already.Memo to Outdoor Provision: stop treating your customers like sick animals.
Great fly fishing guy at the chapel hill location. Every one is very nice and helpful.
Our salesperson John, went above and beyond to help us with our kayak purchase on Saturday. John did an excellent job explaining all of the features of my new Hobie and then patiently waited after closing for us to bring back a seat to exchange that actually did not need to be exchanged (long story) but just shows what a professional Mr. John was dealing with us.
Awesome store. Friendly, knowledgeable staff.
I dont come here nearly enough. I love the creaky wood floors, and the selection of outdoor goods is more curated than many shops like it.
Great variety of items for campers and outdoor sports enthusiasts! Very friendly and helpful staff.
Fun stuff. Friendly help. Decent sidewalk sale.
If you love the outdoors you should visit this place!
The staff is always so nice and helpful here! I go here to get gifts for my dad and step dad and always find something good!
Helpful staff with a small local store atmosphere. Great selection.
Great selection. Cant beat the location.
Couldnt find the pfd I wanted for kayak fishing close to me. Other store informed me that Raleigh location had the exact one color and size. Called later in the day and still got it to me in less that 24hrs. Amazon was gonna take 2 weeks. Thank you Robin for getting it shipped fast!!!
Great selection and friendly staff
Exchanged a pair of shorts for a different color, no problem.
Gorgeous little outdoor shoppe. All staff that we spoke to/dealt with raised the impression we were the only customers while at the same time not being pushy. Definitely very rare these days to have such a calm and nice experience in a store! And they have a little sale section thats definitely worth a peek!
Very clean and super friendly staff
I like this store a lot. The staff is friendly and they have a decent selection. They didn’t have the Fly tying tools I was looking for but were able to special order them for me. They have a good selection of flies, and fly tying materials at a better price point than Orvis or Bass Pro Shops. My one gripe is that while I like the look of the wood floor in the store by it creaks a bunch when you walk around. My rating is more of a 4.75 than a 5 for that reason.
Very knowledgeable staff; made selecting a kayak paddle easy
Great team here! We just purchased an Old Town canoe and everyone was very helpful. Eric answered all of our questions & explained our options for transporting the canoe since we did not have a roof rack - we went with foam blocks & straps. No one was pushy and we never felt pressured to buy extras, which we really appreciated. Right after we left Eric called us to let us know we had accidentally been charged full price instead of the sale price, which is why we had come in but hadnt noticed during the transaction. We were able to be refunded over the phone.Great service & well definitely be back! Thanks!
Amazing helpful staff very knowledgeable about products they sell.
Highly recommended. If you are in the market for kayak in the Raleigh area, Great Outdoor has the best selection. On top of that, the customer experience is excellent. Very knowledgable and helpful. They even installed my cradles and loaded my yak!Robin helped-hes great.
EXCELLENT experience! Robin was very helpful along with Eric on helping me purchase a fishing kayak that met my needs. Very professional would absolutely do business with them again! Thanks guys.
Expensively as usual but they do have cool stuff.
Very nicely laid out and had a neat design. Great place to go if youre interested in everything outdoors!
Awesome customer service! Bought a kayak from this store and they helped me load it on my car. The gentlemen at Great Outdoor Provision Co. even lent me straps to properly secure the kayak! I highly recommend giving them a call, they were great to work with even during the virus madness!
Staff provides great service, and was able to get the kayak I was looking for. The gents were super loading it for me, and I would highly recommend!
Love to shop local. Great products. On more than one occasion Ive had employees offer great help, took their time to help me, and friendly. I always feel comfortable shopping here. Great place!
Expensive but the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. If youre starting a new outdoor hobby and youre not sure what you need, this is where to start. Theyll answer your questions and wont try to pressure you into buying anything.
Shop in Raleigh NC! Lindsay was amazing and super helpful! Thank you, Lindsay!
Great staff and products.
Great store with friendly staff! Nice alternative to REI.
Love this store! All of my favorite brands are here! Merchandise is fully stocked. Staff have always been friendly and helpful. Look forward to buying more honey sticks for my girls.
The first outdoor-oriented store in Raleigh and still locally owned. (Extra ambiance points for the creaky wood floors.) Great selection of clothes from the usual suspects like North Face and Patagonia but also hiking shoes, camping stuff, fishing gear, climbing equipment and even kayaks. Staff are super friendly and helpful.
Good sales staff. Quality products.
Nice store friendly staff
Great selection, prices and services.
Man oh man, I wish I could buy the whole store and I wouldnt even consider myself the outdoorsy type. Some very cool stuff here that will make great gifts for family and friends. Youll find apparel, survival guides, tools and equipment inside.
Got what I was looking for with great service. Lots of options
Ive gotten over half a dozen pairs of shoes and clothing here over the years, and they last so well. Great quality, and even better customer service. I never walk in there without someone greeting me and seeing if they can help. But theyre not pushy either. Good balance!
Decent selection but TOTALLY ignored (not the 1st time either), though there were 4 employees and just 1 other customer. No greeting, no offer to help, just a weird unwelcoming vibe. I imagine that Soviet Russia was like this, but you really expect better at Cameron Village.
Beautiful store. Very high end sporting goods. They have everything from climbing equipment to fly fishing equipment. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly.
I worked here for a number of years. I can count on them to have gear and materials when I need something last-minute. Theyre big on maintaining all the colors and sizes of a particular item in stock. Cameron Village is the flagship store and is very well kept.
Extremely kind and helpful staff. We met up today with employee Chris Garrett who gave us more than an hour and a half of his time to pull a kayak off the top rack and answer every one of the thousand questions that my wife and I had for him. Chris was incredibly knowledgeable and personable. Never once did we feel as though he was pushing a product on us. I highly recommend coming to Great Outdoor Provision Co. for all your kayaking needs!
They had a decent selection, but no one greeted us when we came into the store or offered to help with anything. We looked at kayaks for a while but no one ever asked if we needed help or had any questions. I wasnt really inspired to spend any money at the store when there are other, more pleasant, outdoor stores to make big purchases at.
Friendly staff, very knowledgeable and helpful regarding Hobie products and customer service is 100% great. Thoroughly enjoy both my hobie outbacks. The staff was able to answer all my questions and concerns regarding their products. Thanks again Chris, Stacey, & Joey.
I absolutely love this store!! Coming from the mountains of North Carolina, I love everything outdoors, and it is oftentimes difficult to find certain products in stores. Great Outdoor Provisions Co. carries a wide variety of outdoor products and brands, from Hydroflask, Patagonia and North Face (clothes and accessories), kayaks, Chacos, Cotopaxi, a crazy good selection of camping and hiking gear, dog supplies, etc.Not only do they have a great selection, the employees here are SO helpful! I came in to purchase a backpack as a gift but they only had a few colors available at the time, I mentioned that I loved the bags to one employee and without me even having to ask, he called another location to see if they had more colors available AND had them overnight them to the store so I could come see them! After all this, they even gift wrapped the bag professionally. Its a different level of service that isnt typical for every store in the area. I appreciate them so much and love shopping here!
Great! Loved it!
Excellent locally-owned business whose leaders give back to their community. Visit GOPC and buy local!
Great selection
It’s like a friendlier and simpler version of REI, plus locally owned in Raleigh. I had a really great experience here and the staff were really helpful. Despite being compact in size, they have a fantastic selection of items for just about every outdoor activity: from Fly Fishing to rock climbing to the latest bags from Patagonia. Definitely looking forward to going back!
Great Outdoor Cameron Village has a very large selection, and at one point in time they had an extremely knowledgeable staff. Last few visits I have been very dissatisfied with the very young staff who knew little to nothing about jackets and warmth (which is tricky to know if a jacket is for 20 or 60 degrees now with thinsulation). The staff also seemed baffled and confused when I wanted to purchase my items under my account. While there are no savings for doing so, it is helpful for them to have a record of my purchases. Not a single staff member greeted me or smiled, or said anything friendly at all. I so want to support local to keep local stores open, but am certainly leaning towards online purchases if this is the way I am to be greeted after taking time to go to the store.
I have shopped here regularly for almost a decade and really appreciate their product line and customer service. Definitely check them out if you have not already.
The employees were super helpful and so nice!! They dont have as much stock in like different sizes of things like clothes, or they didnt have any shoe size smaller than a 7, but otherwise their a great store with tons of stuff for fun in the outdoors!
Love this place. Very helpful and friendly staff
Favorite outdoor store in the area.
Great Outdoor Provision has a great selection of outdoor gear and clothing. I have used this location to buy items for multi day backpacking trips. A lot of the items can be a bit pricey compared to online, but they have just about everything you need.
I try not to come here very often because I always seem to leave with lighter pockets. Most of their clothing and equipment is fairly expensive, but they only sell relatively nice brands. I would highly recommend Pro Co to anyone looking for hiking/camping goods or clothing along that style, but be warned, it wont be cheap.
If you want to support a Raleigh local business that are always striving to be in the forefront of providing the best outdoor gear for the active community, check out Great Outdoor Provision Company. The staff is super knowledgeable and very easy to work with.
Excellent gear, friendly, helpful staff.
Great store to shop at if you like quality outdoor gear and clothing. Love to support my local shops.
The staff here is extremely helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. I definitely recommend going here if you are interested in any outdoor activities.
I value giving my business to local companies to support local jobs. But I am giving up on GOPC after many many years. I am an outdoorswoman and always have been. But after a decade or more of trying to shop here I am giving up. I spend many thousands of dollars on sporting equipment and clothing every year. But I will no longer try to spend any of it in a store which refuses to stock the size for the average American woman, in lines that offer it. If I cannot buy clothes here I will not buy anything here. I will buy my sporting equipment at REI or online. Stop being so size-Ist GOPC. The size 16 woman is outdoors.
I was surprised to find that they had some camping food for very reasonable prices
Definitely a full service company! Bittu and Chris helped me figure out what kayak was right for me at one of their awesome paddle sports demo days. Their paddling knowledge is top notch and they are patient and kind in answering all questions and giving advice! You just cant know how well a boat fits unless you paddle the boat, and GOP understands this well! Bittu also introduced me to an AMAZING paddle that should help me stay on the water longer, and come off the water fresher, by reducing fatigue! I thought I had a good paddle already, but the Werner Athenos is just incredible! John placed the order for the paddle and I cant wait for it to arrive - hes such a pleasant person to deal with, as is EVERYONE at GOP! When I decided for certain on my boat, I was able to reserve it online after store hours (and was glad I did as it was the last one in stock at the time)! Robin and Chris made the proper adjustments in-store to fit the boat to me, and gave lots of tips, like how and when to use the skeg, what to do if you tip over, and lots of other great advice. They also let me try out carrying carts to find the right one - I love the Sea to Summit XT cart that comes apart to stow away in dry storage! And to top it all off, they showed my husband and I how to load it onto our van and properly secure it - we bought the ingenious Quick Loops strap that goes under the hood for tying down the front of the boat! Thanks to all the staff at GOP! Youre the best! Cant wait to get on the water!
Excellent store. Was greeted immediately and was escorted to the item I needed. Inventory is sharp and reasonably priced!
Great place to shop if you are into the great outdoors. Quality items. Love the Chacos.
Great selection, normal prices for the brands they carry, and fairly helpful staff. One of the better options for outdoor wear in the area.
Excellent staff help. Kayaks on sale
The Outdoor Provision Company was so nice when they exchanged my boots that leaked. Thank you so much!
Great layout. Sales associates are particularly helpful with shoes. Some classes are held in the evenings.
Good selection but was ignored by staff for the entire experience.
Awesome clothing
Neat place. Great customer service
Great locally owned outdoor and adventure retailer. Prices are almost all exactly at MSRP. Occasionally you can find stuff on sale or clearance. Great clothing and footwear options, but everything else besides kayaks is of a very limited selection. I personally prefer REI, but they do carry things here that youll never find in an REI store.
Extremely overpriced and little staff help. I will definitely continued to shop at REI in the future.
Good service personnel, good sports selections, reasonable price.
Good quality for the outdoors person who wants things for the outside with helpful staff who assist me
Really great selection, with fair prices. Excellent customer service as well.
Good selection of merchandise and great customer service!
The only place around here, that Im aware of that carries a good selection of kayaks, especially Hobie.
WAAAAAY overpriced.. Do not carry some of my favorite brands (Klymit for example).. Staff (when you can figure out who actually works there) doesnt say anything to you or openly engage customers....
Good quality stuff, but the prices are quite high.
Excellent store for hiking, camping and outdoor gear. I recommend!!
Great local outdoor store with a wide selection and friendly staff.
Good quality for the outdoors person who wants things for the outside with helpful staff who assist me
Cool place. Good deals sometimes
Amazing Place, Everything you need for the outdoors.
Neat little outdoor shop with all the stuff one might need and then some.
Nice selection of shoes. Adam who helped us was very nice and knowledgeable.
Knowledgeable staff; quality products at competitive prices; much better experience vs big box stores.
Great selection of items. I love the look of the store and the niche market it is in. However I find that the service is hit or miss when visiting this location
Great store! Loaded up for our trip to Peru...socks, shoes, more shoes, shorts, wallet, etc.
Excellent knowledgeable friendly staff with great prices
Visited to check out kayaks, learned alot, fun decor and in cameron village which is a fun shopping area, staff very friendly and helpful, recommend a visit, well worth your time
