Has pretty good stock of musical gear. although ot has chaned over the years obviously due to being bought out by Haight Ashbury, changing musical climate, and Covid).) Very polite staff.
Excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff and cost effective recommendations make this a must for all things guitar.I was recommended by a seasoned guitarist that has been living in the area for some time. I had broken a peg on one of my tuners and I thought it wasnt repairable and I couldnt find exact replacements online. I thought I was going to have to buy all replacement parts and have them installed but Masood thought it was worth trying to repair it before resorting to that. He quickly looked for spare parts to replace the broken ones and after a little finagling it was fixed and ready to go.Im really glad I came here as I went from a potentially hundreds of dollars solution to less than $20. In the process I got to learn about different guitars and how they work. Over all it was a great experience - highly recommend!
They didnt have the pedal that I wanted but offered to order me one. The guys were very helpful and not pushy at all. I will be going here for my future music purchases.
Act as though your doing them a favor by comming to their store .drum shop clutterd and sales person un interested in helping rather be looking on lap top then doing much of anything else certaianly not cleaning or organizing i used to go to the old drum shop in the 80s cool vibe then .theres a reason sweet water is killin brick n mortar stores
We are so lucky to have an independent music store thats open on weekends!
Don and rob are the drum guys anything you cant get at guitar center they will have here and all the pro gear you need, def reccoment gelb, thanks don and rob
Needed two guitars that I had ignored for too many years to be cleaned up and totally restrung, and, as it turned out, needed a bridge replaced. Many super-knowledgeable people helped me figure out which strings to use and even which model of a circa 60s acoustic electric guitar I had. Picked them up and the Gelb Guys had made them so beautiful and functional that its a shame that a better musician wont be playing them!
Very disappointed this time as they are being unprofessional. I ordered guitar cleaning service, but when I picked up my guitar, it was only half cleaned. They explained that when they were doing the cleaning, they figured out that they didnt charge me enough.Okay, then you should have given me a phone call, explaining everything, not just leave your job half done.
This place is a true music store !!! Great customer service ! During covid the owner brought himself the same day my order!!!
They have a great selection and knowledgeable experts. They even have tiny harmonicas! I bought two...
Gelb is a wonderful music store. Their music teachers are incredible. Their service is excellence - really helpful. I highly recommend Gelb.
The only music store that carries my drum Stix!Bye bye GC!
Helpful staff. Nice selection of guitars.
THE only place to get real drum or music equipment period Don is the best he really plays and knows all the equipment
I really like this place. They sell good stuff at normal prices. I dont feel gouged. Most important, they are helpful and friendly, and very patient with my dumb questions. They are generous with their time and knowledge.
I just experience the worst service, something that was going so good, ended up leaving the me (customer) unpleasant and dissatisfied. Im in need of a power supply for a unit which i purchased from Gelb music store about 6 years back. In fact it wouldve been my third time getting an adapter here. I saw online that they have it stock, i drove from Napa to redwood city due to familiarity. Multiple staff tried to help find an adapter that works. One older staff insist to take over. He found one unboxed among spared ones without a price tag. The older staff therefore told another staff to charge me(customer) $25 for that old charger.. (let it be known, newer charger/ adapters are between $10 and $20)How do you come up with that figure?Oh the black man has to pay more huh?Omdb theyll never have my business again. The older staff viciously took back the adapter and said i was assisting his time. Thought you were working?..
Great selection. Friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable helpful staff! Just a great local shop for musical instruments, accessories and advice.
I bought a speaker from these guys back in June and it failed after 2 uses. They wouldn’t lift a finger to help me even though it was less than 30 days old so I had to send it back myself. Its now the middle of December and I still don’t have a speaker to use.Long story short don’t waste your money here. They clearly are only in business to make a buck and could care less about their customers.
Local music store with incredibly friendly and helpful staff. Don (the manager) spent a ton of time advising me on building out a drum kit. Really knowledgeable.
Everything you need for musicians in one spot
Love our local music shop. They are so friendly and the prices are very competitive. They also have nice and very high end guitars and amplifiers to try out. Thanks guys.
This place is a rarity in todays world of chain music stores. Great selection of guitars, drums, amps, PAs, basses and all kinds of accessories. Prices are decent and they sell online as well. They offer lessons. (that I need) staff has always been very helpful and accommodating. This is a real musicians store.
Great local music store that has a lot of my money over the last 27(!!!!) years. Ive bought a few basses from Gelb. Low pressure but very knowledgeable staff would help me make the right decisions about instruments and gear alike.Their yearly Halloween preferred customer sale event is to be feared and anticipated.Glad they are still thriving!
Great selection, very professional group of guys. No high pressure sales👍👍
Very knowledgeable and helpful staff kind and courteous all around excellent experience
Venerable local institution, knowledgeable staff, excellent customer service, and a broad inventory on hand. Specializes in guitars (especially electric), keyboards, electronics, and percussion. Staff is likely to persuade you to buy something cheaper than you were thinking of if they believe its a better fit for your needs -- refreshing and unexpected. Cant say enough good things about them.
Really great full service music store, one of the last Independents... Have bought many thousands of dollars worth of gear here 30 years, always 100% satisfied with recommendations, gear, prices, and especially service... Highly Recommended...!
For 23 years, Gelb music has been a regular touchstone on my musical journey. Ive seen how every customer receives VIP service, every time. Big names or no names... A special place for people who make music.
Probably the best music store in the Bay Area, one of the only Authorized Mesa dealers around.
The Staff is honest, experienced, friendly and Musically Knowledgeable. Great Products and Good Prices. Gelb has the Best Customer service. No Joke!
Ive been shopping at Gelb for years. I really like the store and the staff. I am a percussionist/drummer, so Ive spent most of my time in the drum department. They have a great assortment of professional grade equipment and the staff is very knowledgable about their inventory. Don, the manager of the drum department, is also a professional drummer. He has lots of experience with percussion and I find him to be a great resource.
Bought my baby at Gelb. 20 years ago. 1965 Fender Jazz. Thank you Gelb Music. I love her more than words can describe.
Selection is really good. Nice instruments, And I like the atmosphere. A classic old store, kinda historic. A little pricey (for this I blame the insanity of real estate in the area, not them). Some music store staff are great. Some are typical.I have found that music store workers are mostly of two varieties: the typical kind, who tend to have this undercurrent of rather sexist, judgmental pressure, and those who just love to connect people of all kinds to what they need.Sigh - this place has both.Unfortunately, there are a LOT of the typical kind in this world, and female (or otherwise not “Rock Star” types) really feel it. It is like they somehow need to prove that they are more knowledgeable than me, or something. Very tiring. I want to tell them, “look, I know you wanted to be a professional performer and it feels degrading to be working in a music store, and that you feel like selling stuff to female musicians makes you feel even further from your standards of your own self-image. But you really need to heal that, not surround yourself with a bubble of asserted wannabe dominance. It is not helping you at all. this is actually a really cool .”To be fair, I only really got this attitude a little here, and it was pretty subtle (but there). Everyone else has been fine. But even a little makes it hard to want to come back. I think music store owners need to screen this, and train people out of it. Or better yet, hire some good female staff. But I do come back, because the location is good and they have good stuff and they are historic and small. I like them overall. And it is very rare to find places that do not have that phenomenon. So they are not losing my business any time soon. I just hope that one issue gets fixed. Everywhere.
Love this brick and mortar music store! Still the only way to demo an instrument before you buy. Friendly knowledgeable staff and great deals too!
A totally legit local music shop selling name brand instruments as well as higher-end and vintage gears. There is a room full of just amps. Staff is generally very helpful and would let you try things out. Be careful reaching up for guitars and gears since its a small space. Always ask for help unless you want to drop something and end up paying for it.
Friendly staff and good selection of keyboards for demo without pressure to buy
Great local store with helpful and friendly staff. No pressure to buy unlike Guitar Center. If youre into Suhr or Tom Anderson guitars, they sell them here! They have a large stock for you to try different spec options, and also help you order your own custom!
I went to see some portable pianos, and even though their shop is small, their collection is far better than most big shops. Especially if you are learner/amateur and looking for a serious mid-range instrument, you should come to this place. The people are very friendly and show you various instruments in detail.
Don in the drum shop is always helpful. Great service, always friendly. Today he helped me pick out a new set of K Custom cymbals. A+
So helpful and wonderful. Good selection. Single strings available.
Lovely neighborhood music shop. They have a great selection, and the staff is incredibly helpful.
Super music shop. Very knowledgeable team.
I have always received fantastic service from Gelb. I highly recommend them for any musical instrument needs.
After not coming into the shop for 8 years, they still knew my name and were as courteous as ever. I use Gelb as my main music shop. the staff in all of the departments are knowledgeable and helpful.
Fantastic selection of guitars!
Great place to shop for your musical gear!
You guys have a lot of overpriced and outdated merchandise. Go to Guitar Center where you get the most out of every dollar.
See Don in the drum Department. it is the best percussion and drum section/store on the peninsula from San Francisco to San Jose
Been going in for years. Place is still one of the top places to buy a set a drums. Guitar, acoustic or electric, ukulele, electric piano, mics and electric sound,. Etc.
Great independent music store with knowledgeable staff
Ive been a Gelb customer since the late 1960s. These guys know their stuff, very competitive prices and no 15 year old shredder blasting your ear drums like GC has. Dont bother with the big chain outfit, support the guys who have been around for decades, not the corporate carpetbaggers up the road!
Very helpful staff and great selection of instruments and gear! I have been shopping here for over a decade and will not stop.
I recently purchased a very special amp from Blues City Music. I had a lot of questions about the function and use of this amp. As this amp was advertised on Reverb, my customer service rep likely was getting many tire kickers. The amp I purchased, a Diesel VH4, is a unicorn amp (hard to find, expensive). In a world of Key board commandos who spend their lives making customer service people lives miserable, I half expected a pessimistic response to my questions. In fact, on Reverb there were a number of Diesel VH4s for sale. As part of my do diligence, I reached out to a number of sellers whose attitude seemed to be buy it, or leave me alone. This WAS NOT the case with Blues City Music. They took time to answer my questions, reassured me on ease of use and function and made me comfortable spending a lot of my hard earned money. After the sale they immediately shipped my amp and communicated tacking number details to me. Over the course of a few days i watched my package via tacking number cross the Untied States. It acctually arrived a day earlier than expected which was a pleasant surprise. Upon arrival I could tell that Blues City Guitar had packaged my amp with care confirmed when I opened the box and my amp was in perfect condition. I rarely write these reviews as people use reviews to bully retailers but do to the experiences I had tracking down this make and model of amp and the people retailing them i had to acknowledge the effort and ease of doing business with this company. I highly recommend Blues City music and would do business with them again.
Great service, great depth of knowledge and selection on guitars, pianos and drums in particular. Staff is excellent!
I have loved Gelb for many years. After the hustle bustle of other music stores, Gelb has been a relief, with straight talk, knowledgeable staff, and reasonable prices, I choose Gelb all the time for my instrument and music purchases.
This shop has a really cool selection of guitars and amps along with the usual accessories. I made a special trip up here to buy a new set of tubes when I retubed my MK V. They were patient and went through the boxes of 12ax7s with me to check them for damage before I left the shop. The only thing that bothered me about the shop was the over use of ask for assistance signs. Overall my visit to Gelb was very positive and I would go there for every purchase if they were just a little closer to my home.
They are very knowledgeable and will give you a great selection of products in store.
Good choice of instruments, not a lot of parking. The staff is not very nice at all.
Just another music store now since being under new management. Not much left in high end equipment.
Walked in and was asked to remove my backpack and place it behind the counter which was kind of stupid and rude. I was actually go ing to go and buy a couple of things easily worth over $400 but for that stupid policy they have, they just lost a valuable customer. Tell me, what am I going to steal? Fit a whole guitar or drum set in my backpack.
Reputable company dealing in quality products and outstanding customer service!
Great selection of patch cords, good service.
Very helpful/knowledgeable regarding home studio equipment
A great place to find good instruments
Drum Section SUCKS. Don Frank is a Crapy Drummer and a Total QUACK. He guilt trips you if you dont buy anything. Hes exactly like the former owner of Drum World, Don Sfarzo who was rude and treated customers like Garbage. They rush you out of the shop if you dont buy anything. Worse place with no Parking.
As someone who has been going to Gelb since I was a teenager all I have to say is Please make it go away. What was once a well known piece of the music community of the bay area has become totally useless. What was once a family of musicians active in the local music scene is now the Kmart of music stores, disorganized...impersonal...just another guitar store.A couple of weeks ago I went there to get a couple of packs of strings and they couldnt find them???Today I went in to see if they had a couple of guitar boxes to ship a guitar I was selling, in the past the response was sure how many do you need, today the response was We sell them for $15, if they had said 5$ sure but $15? what exactly am I paying for? your stellar customer service?Since the change this place has steadily gone downhill, please just let it go, make it go away, or at least change the name so you arent tarnishing the name of what was once an institution of the bay area music scene.
Miss this place, I use to come here all the time before moving to vegas. I use to take guitar lessons here from bill schrey. Best music store ever, I cant find a nice store like that here.
Nice music store for Musical Equipment, Drums, Guitar, Harmonicas, Professional quality
The atmosphere was inviting and the people there are great.
Ive been going there for decades. The staff are all friendly and knowledgeable.
Hreat store great staff
Very nice selection of bass gear.
If you love musical instruments, youll love Gelb.
Friendly service, basically the only cool place in RWC
The staff are always happy to help, even with my most mundane questions. Theyve helped the quality of my podcast improve. Buy local.
Great customer service. Big instrument selection.
They have stuff where other people dont
Bought a string, and manager set it on my guitar and tuned it.
Hard to find harmonicas anymore and they had them!
Knowledgeable staff, wide range of products
Should be gleb, not gelb.
Good selection and accessories.
Gelb is a real music store
Great store with awesome guitars
Knowledgeable and well stocked!
Our only *real* local music store.
Price is not the best
