Solid selection, fair prices but theres a lot of unsavory characters hanging around in the parking lot. Homeless people and whatnot loiter around most of the time. Not a very comfortable environment.
I could spend hours here just perusing through the used stuff. Great prices. Store is always clean and the staff is always friendly and helpful.
I took my toddler for an outdoor sales event they were doing and I was very impressed! They were organized, the selection was amazing! We also browsed and shopped inside the store and loved it!! We will definitely make the 40 minute drive again and again for their books. The prices were also REALLY great!!
This is a fantastic place to pick up cheap books or donate your old books. They have every genre you are looking for, new and old, including school books. A lot of their material sells for just $1 each so this is a great place to buy some books, give them a read, then bring them back once you are done and buy some new ones to replace it!
This is my favorite bookstore in reno! grassroots buys and sells used books for a reasonable price. they also sell a variety of books ranging from all genres and age groups. the location is very convenient for me because it is by costco, which makes it great to stop by and browse the store. occasionally, they will have these sales where you fill up a brown paper bag and purchase everything inside for $5! overall, 5/5 stars.
LOVE this store. I have been coming here sporadically for about 2 years and have always had a positive experience. The staff is always very friendly and knowledgeable. The store is very clean and well organized. They keep a very current and relevant selection. They offer free tea all day and for first time shoppers you get a free book coupon. The prices are extremely reasonable and it’s a great place to offload old books. They buy what they can and otherwise you can donate the rest for their monthly warehouse sales or take them back home. You likely won’t make a lot off what you sell to them unless you have extremely valuable or current books, but people should understand that, books often don’t retain a lot of value. This is a place for people who love to read and the culture of it, so if you’re interested in the money aspect you can try your luck on eBay or another platform, but this is a very convenient option to give new love to your old books. Highly recommend a visit here!
What in the world?? i show up to Grassroots and was ready to sell a few books that are not cheap by any stretch of the word. Im offered $3 for 4 books. these books are worth over $140 new, one of which i paid $75 for.. should i contact State offices? the Better Business Bureau? when i bring up how unfair the practices are here Im told its because youre a small store.. no youre not, you have 50 people walking around during the days, and 7 copies of the 8th season of Sopranos for 9 bucks a pop. this book store needs to be audited.
A wide variety of books at a great price. Friendly staff. My preferred book store.
I went here for the first time after moving to Reno. By far the cleanest, most well-organized used book store I have ever been to. It’s pretty easy to find an arm’s full of books in no time without breaking the bank. Will definitely come here first before buying a book elsewhere.
Hello Grassroots Guys & Girls,Love your store and I visit every time Im in Reno as I live in CA. Are you still currently not buying books? If so, what about DVDs and Vinyl? Looking forward to seeing you again hopefully in the spring. Keep up your great store and great service!
Wow. This place is awesome. The value is incredible. Lots of new books, old books, classics, etc. and theyre all at a killer price. I thought it would be like most used bookstores: maybe a good find here or there, but mostly garbage. It was pretty much the opposite: plenty of good books and all at great prices, even the brand new books. Possibly my favorite bookstore ever now.
Love this place! Great store for avid readers. Cheap books both new and used. Nice selection of manga. I go here over B&N any day
The prices for the books, paperback and hardcover, are probably someof the best prices in town right now.
Theres nothing bad you can ever say about this store they help you get the books they dont have and they have great deals!
This is a good place to buy books but a terrible place to sell. I brought in 2 large boxes of great condition books. After waiting over 15 minutes I was offered less than $3. That came out to just under 3 cents per book. I thought they were kidding me.I took my books back and donated them to the library. At least I can get a reasonable tax write off and they appreciated them.
I love the book selection and that the books are inexpensive! My kid likes it, plus we dont break the bank! My only issue with this place is they are not author friendly. I offered to freely give my published books to the store. The owner was quite rude. Other than not supporting local authors, the place is decent.
Great selection of used books. Sometimes they do outdoor sales where you can get a ton of books, CDs, and DVDs for cheap! Seems theyre not doing book buybacks right now, but you can still donate. - Luke of A and H
Best books for my dollar
This bookstore is amazing great prices books in great condition very friendly staff first time shopper I loved it.
Best deals on books and DVDs in town. Good tea selection too
The staff is friendly and the selection of reads is incredible.
Great place with a huge selection and awesome prices.
One of my favorite store, with rotating stock and solid prices. While you dont get a lot for selling books, they accept a wider array of items. They also have a good system for buying books between stores, and will ship to you for low postage.
Everyone is helpful. When I was there after a serious illness they helped me shop and carried my books for me.If they dont have a book you want they will search online and call when they get a copy. ...great shop, great people...they do want to have you as a customer for life 👍
Great selection and prices. Friendly staff.
Unethical business. Taking shots at customers is NEVER the answer. I will no longer support this poorly run business, and I hope the owners take a good look at who they employ to run their social media accounts. Straight up shameful.
I love this bookstore! There is a variety of books to buy plus they give free books to kids and that’s awesome! The staff are very helpful too. Will definitely come back.
Its amazing here. If its your first time selling books or something, they give you a pass for a free book! They are very nice, and sometimes offer tea. If they were hiring Id love to work there.
Was almost knocked off my socks here! We stopped by this random bookstore on the way to Costco and was surprised at how nice the store is. Clean store, friendly staff, and free tea! This is certainly somewhere people should stop by to drop off their old books and pick up a new one!
Awesome book store! They have great sales every month and great prices all the time. I recommend this store to everyone I meet. The staff is always pleasant and eager to help. Plus you can get money for your old books!
I love this book store! Their prices are so cheap and they have a great selection.
I love this store. Being book savvy is very fun when you have Grass Roots amazing prices, friendly staff and an open mind.Wonderful place that’s hard not to get carried away/lost in
I love this store so much!!! They have the best deals and their 3 day sales are the best!!
I have always loved coming to this store for the huge variety and cheap prices. I decided to go and sell some of my books to them and have never been so disappointed. I brought in 24 new condition books and 4 used text books. My offer was $7. To top it off, they said that any of the books that they didn’t pay for, would be “donated” to the store. They threw them in the recycling bin. They had thrown away almost all of my brand new books. That is not what I consider a donation. When I asked for my books back, the staff was rude and uncooperative. I finally had to ask for a manager who helped me retrieve SOME of my books. I am outraged.
Good place to buy cheap manga and I love the style of the store. However they should update their website and put must be 18 to sell books. Can you believe that?! I was so upset when I had been carrying my books all day just to be rejected because their website is incompetent. The lady at checkout said its the same thing as selling your moms jewelry at a pawn shop. In that case I should probably start keeping my books in a safe if its such a big deal. Why cant students sell their old textbooks?! I have also heard a lot of bad things about selling to them and how they cheat. Maybe you should also put THAT in your website. As of now I am upset with them but its not a bad store overall.
I stopped in here while visiting Reno. I love this kind of bookstore! They have a large selection of books and movies, categorized in a way you can easily browse. The books are all in excellent condition, as if they were new, but with such variety and character that they have that special book glow that books at large retailers often dont. The prices were very reasonable. I got a new release LGBT YA book for $4.99, marked down from $10, so that was a good find.Besides the usual categories, they had whole collections of mens fashion and health, for the aspiring hipster millenial, outdoors memoirs, guides, and essays, and art and photography, as well as several others. I found a 1940s government pamphlet about the history of racing at the Bonneville Salt Flats. I should have bought that now that Im thinking about it. Even if youre not wanting to buy a book, just browsing this place is a treat.Anyway, my point is that they have a great selection for the curious reader, and their prices are very good. If youre in town you should give it a look.
This is my favorite local used book store (Ive found some better ones, but not within a few hundred miles). The prices they pay are on the low side, but that is more than made up with the prices they charge. The only places Ive found with cheaper used books are thrift stores, and even then, there are often times I can find stuff on sale at Grassroots for even cheaper than the thrift stores. And, the selection and quality tends to be better too. I have yet to walk out without having found something that I liked (though not always what I was originally looking for, but that is the risk you take going to any brick and mortar store, much less one selling used goods).
I cannot praise this store enough. I have gone into Grassroots Books probably over a hundred times and I have never had any problems, either buying or selling. They are so cheap, and more times than I can count they have given me books for free, either as part of events, or just to be nice. Selling is also a wonderful experience. Its fast, and totally fair. Just today they said they could give me some money for books I brought in, and they just gave me another book I wanted for free. I will be coming here for years to come, they are the best!!!
This store is clean. The employees cheerful. The store buys books. I took a load in of books and albums. I was asked if I wanted to donate what wasnt purchased... or have them back. I chose donate. Within 5 minutes I was offered a mere two dollars 20 cents. This offended me. I know from looking at prices of the assorted books on line the cheapest prices. I even deducted 50 %. Amoung the books were 2 Melvilles from 1924 and 1925. If you are looking to sell to a fair market - this store is an absolute RIP OFF.
My favorite bookstore in Reno! I love this store, it has a good layout, friendly employees, and absolutely amazing warehouse sale several times throughout the year. Grassroots has a good selection of books, the place is pretty big, and if they dont have it they can find it for you. They sell both new and used books for good prices.
Grassroots books has really great deals. Like DVDs 3 for $10, kids books 99cents, young adult books for $1.99 to $4.99. Also bag of books for $5. Ive been going here for 5 yrs now, they are the best so far. Thank you.
We had a wonderful experience at Grassroots Books. Personnel are helpful, book selection is great and we even qualified for a free book. If we lived in the Reno area, this would be our new favorite place to buy books.
I sold books to GB today. I did not have a list of books, so I am not certain how many books they bought. I walked in with a large box and a stack about 10 high of large format, mostly paperback books. I walked out with 4$ and a large box of books. The transaction was very nebulous, but they bought approximately 20 books, which the original prices were, on average about $12-20. So I made (on average) about 20 cents per book. I had to ask to have the books they chose not to buy returned to me and had the distinct impression that they expected to keep them. When I asked what they pay for large paperbacks I was given the very unsatisfactory answer that it depends. So, long story short and all that, I will not sell books there again. The transaction did not feel honest and open, and I would much rather donate. And BTW, I would have made 4-5 times more using these books as a tax donation, than selling them to GB. This may be typical of the business model of used books stores, and I do believe they offer an important service to the community, but this transaction felt like I was skinned.
Great store, one of my favorites in town. Amazing selections but slightly overpriced on certain things.
Simply the best bookstore in Reno. The stock is varied and plentiful. The prices are solid and fair. The staff have always been nothing but friendly and helpful. I cant recommend it enough.
New and used and all for deliciously low prices. :D I love it. Plus they have a list where you can add books your looking for and theyll call you when they have them - and theyre still super cheap! Dangerous place for book lovers. Dangerous place.
Just called the store and talked to Ethan. Unfortunately they didnt have what I was looking for and Ive never been in the store. But I will say, if the service and kindness in the store is anything like the exceptional service I recieved on the phone I cant wait to become a regular customer.
Awesome, awesome, awesome!!! This place is fantastic from the selection and customer service. I give them an A+ . Very good local bysiness
This Place LIES!!! Said to have the best equipment to get out a scratch but yet couldnt take out one little scratch on my movie!!!
Always a great place to shop for books of ALL kinds except ADULT( for those l for 1 am happy to say l have noticed none ! Yay!!) so this is very little people considerate and friendly. Thank you to the helpful and knowledgable staff of this fun filled, mind nourishing establishment :)
Great selection of both new and used books. Videos too. Helpful staff with good customer service.
Books were gone through before they called me back and did not return all of them.
Took my sisters advice and went to take a look, they have an awesome selection for everyone, including dvds and the like for a good price. The staff are extremely friendly and go above and beyond for their customers!
I love Grassroots. Great prices and a great staff. I love the warehouse sales and always go to get a bag of books at the end of the sale for $4.99.
My favorite store in Reno! Ive gone in here on three separate occasions and found EXACTLY what Im looking for, which is hard to do in a used book store. Staff is always friendly to me. They also have gift cards available.
My favorite book store in all of Reno! Great prices on Manga and Novels. I always find something new and interesting when I come in 😛👍
Excellent place for a good read or your next movie pick. The store was clean, well organized, and the employees were relatable and kind. The only thing I would note it that it is **not** priced like a used bookstore all the way around. Its one of the most expensive Ive been to. Of course, it was still cheaper than Barnes & Noble. I really enjoyed this pitstop during my visit to Reno.
Huge selection, super helpful staff... They have everything
Great selection, new and used. Excellent prices.
Awesome book store. Everything is super cheap and the staff is very helpful. They have DVDs and books for every reader.
Great book store!
Great sales, friendly people, awesome place
I love this store. Amazing deals and always helpful.
Love this store. Great selection and excellent prices.
Amazing variety of books at good prices. Love to visit the store when I have the time. Friendly staff.
Renos Best!A wonderful experience for the entire family. Helpful and creative personnel.
I have been here several times in the past few years to give this place another chance but I walk away disappointed each time. The selection is large but the prices are high especially considering how much they give you when buying books. It can be difficult to get help from staff even when the place is not very busy at all. A few times I have been met with a nasty attitude when I request help or dismissiveness when asking questions. I even spoke to the owner on one occasion and she was pretty condescending and couldnt accept that her workers could do anything wrong.I have always been very courteous and patient during my visits and even resisted leaving a negative review until this month which was the last straw. It is very disappointing since it would be great to have a place where I could pick up some books at a good price and not have to worry about dealing with negative people.
Always polite and helpfull. A pleasure to visit this book Store.
Good selection of books, just really pretentious people.
For a professional business they are pretty immature. Whenever you confront them with a problem you had in their store or with staff they pretend to not know what the problem is or pretend that there never was a problem.
Sold some books then came back to sell more and they refused noting cigarette smoke smell. (of which there was none) they came from a non smoking home. It was close to closing is all I could figure.
Ive done a few different types of transactions here: sold books, bought books in-store, called to ask if something was in, was added to a waitlist (and actually got a call back when the item was in!), and so on. Every time I have had great service and did not feel rushed. Grassroots had become one of my Reno favorites and itson my list of places to stop whenever Im in town.
Helpful folks and love the store.
Whenever I go, they have the book I am looking for, and for a good price. I love this store and recommend it for anyone looking for a good book for a good price.
Good selection, great prices, friendly service!
Very helpful and will order any book they may not have within a couple of days and call you.
A wonderful local resource! Best book store in Reno and beyond. If they dont have what youre looking for they can get it for you. Well organized, lots of sections to choose from. They also sell cds, dvds, video games, comic and manga books. Very large childrens section too. They have warehouse sales once a month where everything is only $0.99 each! They also give a lot back to the community. I can only hope that they start paying their employees a living wage, however.
Nice place. Great prices on new and used items.
Good selection and its great that they buy books etc, even if they dont pay out a lot.
Pretty good selection for its size, and if you cant find what youre looking for you can always have them backorder it for you. Good prices.
Good spot for used books, with helpful staff and a surprisingly good selection.
Great selection of new and used books..... friendly, helpful service!
Free book offers, cheap used books. 5 dollar bag warehouse sale end of month. Cheap dvds, audiobooks, comic books, CDs and an eclectic book selection..
The first time I went there it was really fun l had a coupon l even got video games and more fun stuff l like this place l love grassroots books
I first found this place because of a coupon in the local paper: a free used book for you and anyone with you. I thought there had to be a catch but there wasnt, my friend and I each got a free book! Ok, you can only use a coupon once a year, but still, FREE BOOKS! Check out their calendar, they have free book days throught the year. The store is well organized and I found a few more paperbacks and they were only $1.99 each. Then I found out about the warehouse sale (everything 99 cents and then the bag sale at the end) and I was hooked. A note about the warehouse sale, the prices are great because you have to search for yourself, kids books are separated out but the rest is only organized by size. Plan to spend some time treasure hunting, its worth it. I find something new each time I am there and generally spend less than a latte at starbucks. The staff is friendly and love to talk about books. The atmosphere is welcoming, always lots of laughter, and they are pet friendly. A few more comfy chairs and I would be there all day. Did I mention there is free tea while you browse?
Staff is so friendly and the book are SUPER cheap!
Best used and new bookstore in northern Nevada, you will be shocked by the wide selection of new books and quality of used ones.
Very friendly staff and a great variety of books.
I used to enjoy visting grassroots they have a great selection of books and DVD and blu rays. Lately it seems like they turn out to be like most businesses they are good for a few months and then they jack up there prices. Grassroots was my go to store for affordable blu ray movies. If I wanna pay retail prices Ill go buy from a corporate store then to pay full price on used movies very disappointed in this store dont know if Ill be returing here much
Great selection, great prices, and the staff is energetic and helpful. Cant ask for much more than that.
Terrible customer service. I went in there after I went to gameforce. After purchasing a blue ray I exited the store and was followed by some prick. He said I stole a gamecube game. I was angry and took out my recipt. I hate that place and the half ass nerds that work there.
Took about ten boxes of books there. The front staff very friendly, but the bug guy who told me they were worth nothing was rude.
This place is awesome its got movies books anime manga video games its an awesome place is what it is
Best place in the area to get used books and movies. Fantastic prices and great customer service.
Came in for a journal, walked out with a free hardback copy of Under the Banner of Heaven! Thanks!
