Want to travel back in time ? This was a blast from the past. The food was great, burger could have been a little more done. The milk shakes/malts were great. The place was clean and staff very friendly. The decor was awesome. I loved the old music boxes at every table and they work! Location is inside Boomtown Casion, normally open 24 hours but now they close at midnight.
This place is awesome place great to eat at . Waiters are very professional and understand anyone they are serving. Food here is it yummy . They serve breakfast 24/7 and lunch and dinner too. Prices are good Prices of amount they serve on a plate of food. For 2 plate of food and soda are around $45 dollare. I recommend this place if you are in reno.
Oh my gosh, where do I start? This diner was the most genuine of olden day diner experiences. For one, I must note that each table has their own jukebox for one quarter per song, AND THEY DO WORK LIKE A TRUE GEM!What a great experience. The food tasted wonderful, that homey old-time homemade kind of feel. The apple pie was also very flakey and had a wonderful crust. Hoping I can go again soon.
Just stopped by on the way through town. It’s in the casino but near the front door. Our server was excellent and our breakfast was really good. I had the vegetarian omelet and my husband had the ham and scrambled eggs.If you don’t like the smoke smell from the casino, ask to be in the back. It was fine back there
Service was excellent! The memorabilia was awesome! Kept waiting for Flo to walk out and say Kiss my grits! Lol
What a great eating experience this was! The atmosphere was nice, and it was cool to look at all of the nostalgia. The service was second to none, and the food was really good. They had a large menu with several options, I got the Chicken Fried Steak Dinner which was amazing! It came with 3 sides AND a biscuit and gravy. Definitely a place that I will revisit! This is definitely my new Diner to visit if I am on my way back to California from Reno.
Food here is great! Burgers and fries are awesome! Breakfast is great also. My overall experience was pretty good. My last visit here for breakfast, food was good but server wasnt the most pleasant. It wasnt that busy, but she was short with us and did the bare minimum. My glass of water seemed to have had dried soda on the side of it, so I asked for a new glass of water. She snatched it up spilling it on the table and floor!! Not cool. Her service costed her a tip! Its in boomtown, so when I stay again I will eat there again. If she is working, I will ask for a different waitress.
Always a great stop on our trips into Nevada great staff and good food
Wow! Night and day difference from the Mels at the Sands. They still have the updated menu that I dont like but the waitress, Katelin, knew how to make the old desserts and was incredibly fast and nice. Food was good and came out quick. HIGHLY recommend this location to anyone in the vicinity (Reno, Sparks, Carson, etc).Well be back before we head home. Thanks!
My wife and I had the breakfast sandwich. It was excellent and the service was fast.
Was just in Mels. And let me say the Hispanic gentleman they have running the front (9-18-21) around 630-7 a.m(wish I could remember hes name but Im terrible with names haha)But he was such a pleasure even b4 picking up my breakfast he was so kind and attentive on the phone. And even more so in person! Absolutely wonderful customer service. Hope you recognize him for being a great employee mels!!
I dont remember our waiters name. But he was probably the BEST and I mean BEST waiter Ive ever had. Food was fantastic and was delivered quick. Will definitely go there again👍👍👍
Look I love this place, and so happy is open but honestly asked for eggs with potato and the food was a little on the coldish warm side, and the potatoes (not hash browns) seem to have been sitting on the stove because many where blackened (burnt) and they tasted burnt, the toast too was a little too toasty, it was good but the ham was dry and the potatoes burnt if I have to guess, they probably prepare a batch in the morning and it sits on the heat after that, is a great place, but nobody wants the taste of burn food 🤷🏻♀️
Lovely dine in experience! Loved the food
Great breakfast! Great service! Plus Boomtown offer gave me $15 off our meal. Who could ask for more?
Loved the food here, and the service was excellent! The waitress kept a variety of music going during our entire meal. It was a very enjoyable experience for us.
The only downside was a 20 minute wait once seated for anyone to even offer water. Once we placed the order the food arrived fast. Appetizer, salads, shake and entrées all together. The food was ok. Nothing special but was warm and they were open.
The best food experience. I hope the cook gets the respect he deserves. Everything on my plate was OUTSTANDING. The restaurant was clean and staff was super friendly. Much appreciated when my husband and I were on a much needed date. Havent been to Mels in years and still amazing as remembered. Thank you for having and maintaining high standards to leave the customer with a great experience. Dont go to Reno casinos for the poor food, stop at Boomtown.
Located within the Boomtown casino situation, we arrived around 9:00am for breakfast at Mels and were not let down. Hot coffee, eggs, bacon and the works were all tasty and choice. Prompt service, clean place; would definitely recommend for those passing through on the road for a solid American breakfast. $6.99 Ham & Eggs too (except weekends, $8.99). Also, Mels is just a few literal paces away from indoor gambling galore and such (if thats on your radar).
The restaurant was relatively busy, but the line ran smoothly and we where seated in a good time, our waitress was very friendly and checked up on us to make sure we had everything we needed.. her recommendations where great..
The food was great with good portions. Our server, Gus, was extremely attentive and friendly.
Francene the “manager” was SO rude and her sister Paige was just as rude. They charged us $20 gratuity for a party of 5 people we ordered food we NEVER got our drinks didn’t hardly get refilled and when another guest in our party asked about the refill she was told it was “her fault for leaving the table” that’s why she didn’t get a refill. Just absolutely horrible. Zero customer service there I would have tipped well all on my own without it being demanded after terrible service and an attitude when asking about it. I wouldn’t go here while they’re working.
The food was great!!! The service was awesome!!!! We had no issues, but a couple behind us did.... they were expecting an item that was no longer on the menu...but the employee made an exception and got it for them.... most places just say no we are out or we dont have that on there anymore but he went above and beyond and got it for them... that is great customer service and will keep people coming back for more!!!!!
Great service. The casino was fun. Signed up for a card and received 25 dollars in free play. I won 100. Very fun for a quick lunch stop. Also the casino hotel looks nice. They have an arcade which was open most of the games and toys were open very fun and great break from the road trip. A must stop if passing by. Great customer service also. And you cant beat the view
Yummy breakfast before heading home after a 5 week camping trip that included NPs and other great locations.
Good food. The service was quick, courteous and professional. The food was better than average diner faire.
Pretty bad. My wife had the breakfast special and the ham and potatoes were badly burnt. I had a malted shake and it was way too sweet (and I like sweet). I doubt if Id ever eat there again. The decor needs a redo. I image at one time it was a 50s style diner but now its a mess. Too much junk on the walls and then you throw in modern tvs along with wait staff not in 50s attire and it does not work anymore.
Thanks for the outstanding service. Cynthia provided us with above and beyond service. Food was great too!
Where do I start. The food was terrible and way too expensive. I spent $50 each day for breakfast for 2 adults and 1 child...for 2 days!! So I wasted $100 on food that was either undercooked or overcooked. I ordered my son a Belgian waffle and it was so hard it could break a window! The potatoes were so raw it was like they diced them and put them on the plate. This was my first time eating there and itll be the last. Wish I could give 0 stars.
Were on our way to Reno and stopped in Boomtown and ate at Mels. It is located inside the Boomtown Casino. I ordered a sandwich and my wife ordered a hamburger. The turkey melt that I ordered was okay it was very salty. My wife really liked her Burger and enjoyed it. It had a big thick beef patty and she ate the whole thing. The food is good as Ive been to other males also. The fries made up for the turkey Mount they were really good. The service was fairly fast and as usual it had a nice ambience
Our first time coming to this diner and I loved it. Huge area so we didn’t have to wait to be seated despite many people. Mel’s has a huge menu with all food options; from breakfast all day to quesadillas, sandwiches, burgers and many more. Vegetarian options available for all types of food. Their milkshakes are awesome for dessert in the diner or to go!
Fast. Tasty. Hot. We eat here all the time when we go home from Reno. Stays in our top 10 even after 10 years.
Food is okay. Service is amazing! The staff is so kind and friendly. Just wish the food quality matched the price a little better.
Unbeatable taste, fair prices, friendly staff. What more can you ask for? I suggest the malt shakes.
Stopped in at 3am and had the nicest server. The Denver omelette was good!Even won $100 on a slot as I was leaving cant beat the experience
Mels Diner is a greasy-spoon type diner with a fun and nostalgic atmosphere. The service is good (and sometimes great), and the food is better than okay. It has a great American Graffiti theme throughout with a jukebox controller right on the table. The kids love to pick out music while they wait for their corn dogs or chicken nuggets. You have to get a malt or a milkshake to complete the experience. We usually choose this place for breakfast or lunch when the kids are visiting the Boomtown Fun Center.
Food was great and waiter was excellent, he really paid attention to our needs with a polite and friendly tone.
Food was decent. The service was great .
Didnt care too much for the panko on the chicken fried steak. It was good but prefer original breading. Service was really good.
Terrible. Absolutely terrible. Had a family day today. We are locals. Brought our 1.5 year old daughter to the fun center then it was dinner time so we decided to stop in at Mels. We were seated almost immediately but then it seemed as though we were chopped liver as two other tables were seated after us and drinks were brought out to them. We waited 15 minutes before we decided to leave since no server decided to greet us
Delicious breakfast, plenty of food & our server, Felix was so friendly & attentive. He checked on us often & brought us anything additional we needed.
Great vibe esspecially if your into diner vibes, great food with plenty of great options, staff was also super friendly and welcoming a lot of cool memorabilia.
It was late night 11 p.m. my friend got fried chicken I got a state it was very good.
It was just a hot dog that I ordered.. but OMG.. it was the best hot dog I have ever eaten.. It was the Mels dog.. I hope all Mels make their hot dogs that good.. I know what I will be ordering next time I go to Booms Town.. Oh.. and the french fries were awesome as well.
Never disappointed at Mels diner. We had the ham steak and egg breakfast delicious eggs were a little undercooked but no complaint always good food definitely recommend Mels diner either at the boomtown or the sands.
The last time I was here it wasnt very good, not impressed! But thought Id give it another try and so glad I did! Outstanding Berger and patty melt! Very impressed this time! And the waitress was super nice, friendly, and efficient! Will definitely be back!
Great food and friendly staff, but there were eight tables that hadnt been cleared of their dirty dishes- which was kind of gross.
Our server was friendly and always made sure to refill our drinks, without us asking. Great place for sandwiches, I ordered their club sandwich. It was yummy!
We came late Tuesday night for my sister-in-laws birthday. The service was excellent. The server was very friendly and attentive.. I ordered an omelet that was pretty good, and the Mels breakfast potatoes were delicious.. However, my wife ordered a ribeye steak that smelled rotten, she asked for a replacement, but that one also smelled kinda off... She could only eat a couple bites, and I also tried a bite, but had to spit it out... She ended up puking throughout the remainder of the night... perhaps stay away from the meat there. Dont try eating it if it smells off. I wish I could give better review, but food safety is very important.
We had actually chosen not to eat here (we decided to get room service instead), after being unimpressed by the burgers we had at other Mels locations, but when we went to order, the room service menu was all from Mels, leaving us no choice. We knew we didnt want burgers, so we tried the ribs, the smothered fries, grilled cheese, of course a milkshake (orange creamsicle)🥤, and a few other things that looked good when we were starving. We ended up eating everything, it almost caused a food coma, but the good kind. Everything was so good, and Im still craving the ribs🥩. So now Im thinking I should try the other Mels again (just not a burger) & see if theyre worth another shot. Or maybe the one in boomtown has the only chef who knows how to cook 🙄🤔. Ill have to get back to you after I try the ribs... 😁
Ordered a San Fransisco Scramble and ordered loaded potatoes instead of hash browns. Received hash browns. Let the server know that the order was incorrect. She took the plate back, came back 10 minutes later with the SAME plate, but the hash browns had been scraped off the plate. The scramble itself was cold when I received it back. The photo below is how I received the plate back. Had to repeatedly ask for refills. The server was very nice but the experience was terrible.
The food and service was great and a clean atmosphere very enjoyable experience .
Great service. Good burger
Food was horrible. Fork was dirty with food stuck in middle fork. Ordered over medium on eggs. They werent even close to over medium . clear and runny . Service was good. Food sucked.
Usually really enjoy Mels. Not sure if its all Mels or just this one but prices have increased and serving size has definitely decreased. My husband paid $17 for steak and shrimp. The steak looked like maybe a 3 Oz steak and 4 shrimp that were more breading then anything. Ruben sandwich was decent however it came with probably 10 whole fries.
Yummy Yummy Yummy! The best ever. If you go M-F you have to get the ham breakfast. You will not regret it. Good luck eating it all but well worth it.
Large portions, got the 1/2 lb. Ham steak and eggs special. It came with hash browns and 2 pieces of toast. I had to share with my hubby, but he had no problems.
Are here a couple times, could increase the quality of food served.
Best Mels ever at Boomtown. Ham steak n eggs for $6.99 is the best. Miguel is my favorite server and always ask for him. Love that place! Yum!😋
Food was great and our server was really nice and attentive.
Always Excellent service Mels Diner in Boomtown. The food is very good. Like eating there.
Loved this restaurant. We were at the Row and where we had dinner was pricey and the food was bad. Mels was a delite. And the plates were big and tastey. Would go back again
Awesome! Food and service was great and Togo food was quick.
I liked the food but the best part was the banana split ice cream.
This is located inside the Boomtown Casino. The restaurant has a new version of those tabletop Jukebox selector controls. What fun!. While youre looking over the menu, dont miss the notes on the history and the tie-in to the movie, American Graffitti. Paper fold together cars of the 1950s make the visit special for kids!
Close to the Sports book. Burger & Football on the big screen.
As always, great food, great service! Consistently throughout the chain Mels sets high standards. You cant go wrong here.
It appears that a wait in line is common, but it wasnt too long. We were seated fairly quickly put our order in fairly quickly and actually received our food fairly quickly. The total cost was $50 for the 3 of us, but we had a ton of food for what we ordered. This included our drinks and sides. All of our food seemed cooked appropriately; nothing was burned or overcooked or under cooked. All 3 in our party enjoyed our meal immensely and we mostly cleaned our plates. The exception being that there was so much food we couldnt quite get everything down. My sons biscuits were huge and the 2 biscuits that he ordered on his meal were so large that it appeared that there were 4 instead of two.The décor is typical Mels-- See pictures below. Some of the decorations are really quite cute. Id stop again at this Mels to eat if we were nearby.UPDATE: 11-20-18: On the way to Montana from Sacramento, we stopped for breakfast and, WOW!, Mels did it again. I had the ham breakfast and upgraded my hashbrowns with bacon, onions, cheese and sour cream (see photos). Oh, my eggs--over MEDIUM, whites done with yoke runny--were perfect. Thank you Mels!
I Love Mels DinnerBest Onion Rings ever..Our Waitress (Miguel) was so Awesome and Kind.. Boom Town was Cleaned Up and Remodel.. No More Smell of Cigarettes. Really Enjoyed Lunch and Miguel..Looking forward to Our Return.. 💜🌷😷
Good food. The waiter we had was great kept the drinks full. The manager walk around and was friendly
So, drove all day and remembered that Boomtown had a restaurant...WOW! Got in about 130 am...had a prime rib with mashed potatoes, and a squash medley. Had tea cause I was cold...holy moly like 9 different teas to choose from. Service was awesome. Next morning, had the steak and eggs special. Again, awesome service. Prices are excellent...BOTH meals for under 40$ including 2 good tips!! Bathrooms were clean and neat.
Paige was excellent server...very attentive, will be asking for her section every visit.
Food was tasty, but alittle on the cold side even though it came fast..Server was good, polite, down side I felt like we didnt get checked on enough and never asked to refill coffee.. until we were done and ready to go he offered coffee to go. Which we took of course. All in all I still like the place .
I sat at the counter and ordered a beer and a bacon cheeseburger with an egg over easy. Pretty fast service. The food was good. Bear in mind that this Mels (or should it be Mels?) is inside a casino and, thus, the menu is priced for convenience, which translates to being a tad pricier than other comparable greasy spoon-type food. If i stayed at Boomtown again, Id probably eat at Joes, er, I mean Mels.
Sadly this was a huge disappointment. I stayed at the KOA and Mels diner was in the casino adjacent to the rv park. I was excited to try it and now wish I hadn’t. The bun was the worst bun I’ve ever had and actually never seen a bun like it before. It looked as bad as it taste. After removing the bun the contents of my burger were just as bad. Over cooked dried out meat, burnt bacon and soggy onion rings. I won’t eat here again. The fries were not bad but nothing special enough to make up for the burger. It’s sad that this big of a chain restaurant cannot provide decent food. Wait staff was friendly and I felt bad for them because they were so great and I’m sure the tips aren’t good because of the food. Hopefully people don’t take it out on the super friendly wait staff and tip them for their service not the food
Nice $6.99 breakfast special and the servers were very attentive.
Great place to eat I love the memorabilia. The food was excellent and the staff makes you feel like family.
Good service and good food. Since this is a 24-hour place it solves the problem of finding something to eat late if you are staying at Boomtown.Menu is diner style and the memorabilia is 50s. If you are looking for a chocolate Coke or an old-fashioned shake they have you covered. One of the side options are garlic fries. If you look at my picture (its the chili-cheese dog) you can see it is absolutely loaded with chopped garlic. No powder or garlic salt.On a side note, its funny how there are now three Mels in town. Not complaining, just kind of surprising.
Solid meal. Great option. Club salad was very good.
I placed an order to go and it was ready with in mins. The staff was super friendly.
Delicious food. Speedy and friendly service, what more could you ask for.
