I dont leave negative reviews lightly and cannot comment on the quality of the work of Chevy Chase Plating and Polishing. Unfortunately, this is because I havent seen the work in the 3 months its been since I first contacted them and left them a small copper sample for test finishing, at the end of July 2021. When I met him, I found Michael to be courteous and pleasant, if strangely deferent to the mercurial genius of a Mr. Williams, who actually does the work.I received no follow up during August so left a voicemail at the end of the month. I got no reply so emailed at the end of September., in response to which I received a perfunctory reply that the status of my order was unknown but that I would get an update shortly. It is now the end of October and I still havent heard anything. As noted by others, this casual disregard for client care reflects extremely poorly on the business and often presages the standard of the work it does. A business can be founded on talent, skill and craftsmanship but it survives on the attention and respect it gives its customers. If they are too busy for this, they may find themselves with a good deal more time on their hands in the near future.
We went to have 3 antique pieces restored. We met with Michael andMr. Williams. Mr. Williams explained what he would do with our 3 pieces:a clock, a candlestick holder and a samovar. Even though his price was high we felt he could do a good job. So we left the items to be done with an expected finish date at the end of next month because we were leaving town. To our surprise, Michael called us later in the week to say the items were done! They were done perfectly. Mr. Williams had brought back to life our family antiques. A great job.I want to say that we were a bit hesitant to give them the job because of negative reviews. We decided to do it anyway. We are so glad we did. We could not have been happier.
If I could leave 0 star I would. Stay away if you are looking for a professional place that can do the job. I have never encountered such an unprofessional place in my life. I dropped off some handles three months ago, hoping to have them stained a different color. I met Michael who assured me that the owner was the best for those kind of job. They gave me a contract that said the job will take about a month. Since then, it’s been a rollercoaster. They never called me with updates. I had to be the one to call and every single time I called, my items were not ready. Finally beginning of December, Michael asked again for some additional time and that it will be ready for sure before the holidays. Here we are today, 3 months later in 2020. I had to be the one to call again and my items are not ready. I finally had to give in and ask for my items and deposit back. The owner held on to my items and never even started the job. He never called me to say, he couldn’t do the job or anything. My project has been on hold for 3 months now. I am so upset that I have no words. I suggest you try a different place. Stay away.
Chevy Chase plating did fantastic work on my gold medal. It took some time for them to get the 24k gold, but it was worth the wait. The owner Williams and Michael at the front desk were very courteous. I am absolutely impressed with Mr. Williams workmanship. Thank you to both Micheal and Williams.
Avoid this merchant at all costs. I literally feel violated. I was in too much of a hurry to have my project restored. Chevy Chase Plating & Polishing took complete advantage of me. At $600, they charged literally triple what a honest craftsman would have charged for the same work. I know this because I have since received multiple estimates from more reputable polishers. I will never go back.Follow up: I received a threatening call from this merchant today. He insulted me, called me vulgar names, tried to intimidate me, and demanded to know what merchants gave more reasonable estimates. It was so bad that I think I should call the police. Beware of this guy. Hes bad news.
I have had several vintage auto parts polished by Chevy Chase Plating. I found them professional and friendly. The work they did was excellent.
I dont like having to report negative information about any business and I typically dont write reviews but I felt a need to share my unfortunate experience with this company. My experience was similar to some others who posted about a very long turnaround for service. I kept being told over a period of months that my fruit bowl was still being worked on and would be ready in a few days, which turned into a few weeks, then several months. Turned out they had damaged my bowl and didnt inform me in a timely manner. To add insult to injury, when I finally got to speak to the owner about the matter, I was met with incredibly rude, dismissive customer service, where he became argumentative and raised his voice during our conversations to determine the repair status of my item. I was finally able to reach an agreement where I received my deposit back and was(partially) reimbursed for my damaged property towards the purchase of a new bowl. Of note, Michael, the Assistant Manager who typically had to pass on communication about the ever changing timeline, did remain professional throughout, unlike the owner. I did eventually receive an apology for my negative customer experience on behalf of the owner but unfortunately, it was really too little too late. This business needs to remember the most important thing is how you treat your customer. I will not patronize this business in the future.
If you’re going to spend the time and money to restore beautiful pieces, then you’ll want someone like Mr. Williams to make sure it’s done right. A retinned copper pot and a repolished Nambé platter looked better than the day they were first brought home.
Wonderful job done on a set of organ chimes!!! With 50+ years of corrosion on them, they came out looking and sounding beautiful!!!!
They did excellent jobs in restoring my trivets from Virginia Metalcrafters.
Nothing good, was told lead time for some table legs would be 2 weeks, 4 weeks later they had not started. Also the price double from estimate to the time I delivered them, then the polisher said if he was going to break his back the price would have to go up again Complete joke.
