My fiancée and I had such an amazing experience at Fairytale Brides. The selection is fantastic and there were a number of dresses that fit our tight budget. Amparo was so kind in helping choose the dress. She’s a super star!! Plus, the money goes to a worthy charity or scholarship fund, so it makes you feel good in what you’re buying. Absolutely recommend this store to any bride! I wouldn’t want to go anywhere else.
What an incredible group of folks. As a plus size bride, I have been really apprehensive of wedding dress shopping. I struggle with a lot of body dysmorphia and was certain I wouldnt find a dress I liked. Boy was I wrong! The ladies worked with me and my MoH to make me feel welcome and help me find a stunning dress in my size. Due to outside person reasons, I did not end up purchasing the dress but this first experience has made me feel so much more comfortable with the whole process. Never once did I feel judged and I would recommend Fairytale Brides to anyone and everyone who is interested in finding a lovely secondhand dress.
There wasnt anything I didnt love about Fairytale Brides! They helped me when I needed it the most! They fitted me into the perfect dress with less than a week before my wedding!!! They are truly the kindest group of people I have ever had the pleasure of meeting.. thank you Fairytale Brides, you made my day absolutely magical 💗💗💗
I had a lovely experience with Fairytale Brides. I was dreading dress shopping but the ladies here were wonderful and made the experience pleasant for me and my mom. Lizette (and everybody else at the store) was attentive but also transparent about how certain styles looked on me - even though the dress looked good on me, they knew it wasnt *my* dress and would tell me so.My mom and I were also the only ones at the store, so even though Lizette was the one helping me, the entire group of volunteers were very much involved in helping me find my dress.Something to keep in mind is that all dresses have been donated - there are hardly, if ever, any of the same dresses in multiple sizes like a for-profit store would have. So if you like something and its within your budget, its in your best interest to get it before someone else takes it. If you have a specific dress you absolutely must get for your wedding and you are not willing to give other styles a try, then this place may not be the best place for you. If you would like to give Fairytale Brides a chance, then please go with an open mind. You might be surprised with what you may end up liking, as it did with me :)One thing that really made a lasting impression was how the volunteers would strike up a conversation with my mom whenever I was changing out of dresses, affirming that my mom was just as much a part of the process as I was. The reason why this sticks with me the most is because my mom is a first-generation Korean and English is not her native language. Even with the language barrier, everybody was communicating and working hard to understand each other. All of the volunteers I met at my appointment were kind, warm, and not once did I feel pushed to buy a specific dress. The seamstress also came out (twice!!!) to answer any questions we had about the dress since it is a tad too small and also a little too long. The store also has shoes and various accessories readily available to help the volunteers when making recommendations to paint a bigger picture of how you would look in the dress. Another form of service I really appreciated was that I really wanted to try on a specific dress (my dream dress) from a different store, but I didnt have the time to go try it on before my appointment. When one of the volunteers saw me looking at a picture, she offered to find something similar to try on so that I could at least get an idea before making my final decision. It definitely helped me with the decision-making process as I could tell that the one I thought was *it* wasnt as special as the one I was thinking of getting. To end this review, Fairytale Brides made the dreaded dress-shopping experience into such a positive one. I would highly recommend this place to future brides who are open to trying on a variety of dresses.TL;DR Volunteers at Fairytale Brides are attentive, transparent, understanding of and will stick to your budget. Even though I bought my dress already, a part of me wishes to go back to try on dresses again.
I donated my wedding dress to this sweet store and I am so glad I did! It is a beautiful little store with what appear to be really lovely dresses. The volunteers were very kind and appreciative. I had my dress drycleaned before I went, but I honestly wish I had waited, because they will dryclean it for you at about half the cost. All in all, a really nice experience. I wish I had known about this place when I bought my dress! I highly recommend it to everyone, whether you are looking to buy a dress or donate yours!
In went with a friend to help her find her wedding dress and we had a lovely time. The ladies working there were all really sweet and helpful. The prices were also reasonable! Im not sure what size they go up to but she had a ton of options in the 10-12 range. Advice, most of the dresses have already been altered so be prepared to size up a little.
Buying my wedding dress at this shop made me so happy! Ethically it doesnt get any better than this--used dresses have a low carbon footprint and the money all goes to support scholarships and organisations that help women. I think the shoestring name is a little misleading because many of the dresses are fancy designer items in the thousand dollar range, though it seemed they also had cheaper ones. I found a genuine silk Vera Wang dress that was likely used as a store sample for $900 (originally priced at $4000) and the perfect Anne Barge belt for another $100 (Im guessing the original price was something like $750 or more).
I bought my wedding dress from this store over summer, and a necklace to match! Wonderful service and beautiful one-of-a-kind wedding dress selections, especially for petite brides such as myself. I am extremely satisfied and highly recommend this special shop!
The kind and attentive stylists/volunteers at Fairytale Brides helped me find a beautiful and unique wedding dress that fit me like a glove! Moreover, it was at an unbelievable price, and all proceeds will go toward very important, local charities. I feel so blessed to have stumbled across such an amazing place, and would highly recommend it to my friends!
Better make an appointment cause even the store is empty you need an appointment. Oh well
Staff wad very friendly and accommodating. Dresses were beautiful and ranges from $300-$4,000+. Dresses were donated and all proceeds go to a good cause. Dresses were lovely.
This is a must-visit for any bride to be who wants a warm, comfortable, and professional experience! Need not to say the vision the owner, Donna, has for such a unique store. All the volunteers working there make you feel at home when you step into the store. They have great selections for anyone who is on a budget or who just want a unique dress. All the volunteers take the time to understand what you want and are able to pick out very nice dresses which fit the description. They will also pull out some dresses they think will be a good fit plus all the accessories. I had such a great experience with their service and would highly recommend this store.
I just purchased the perfect wedding gown there! I have visited half a dozen other shops, and Donna and the other volunteers made this by far the best bridal experience Ive had. Myself and my bridal party received first class attention and service. It led to my purchase of the dress, for a great price and for a great cause! So happy with this experience!
It was my 3rd shop to find a wedding dress, and I wish I would have gone there 1st.I was assisted by two awesome ladies, very nice and caring, honest in their comments and not trying to sell you something because they want to sell you something. I tried on many dresses but couldnt find the one, until one of the lady went to the back of the store and brought one final dress. There were also very nice helping me to take pictures to send to my mum (who lives in Europe), and even let video call her for a while, which was very much appreciated!Im on pretty tight budget, but still succeed to find a gorgeous dress!I would definitely and strongly recommend this shop to anyone looking for a gorgeous dress in a very friendly and professional environment!!! Nothing compare to my previous horrible experience in DB..!
Staff was very friendly. Very limited selection. All the really nice dresses a felt were size 0-4. The dresses are dated. Associates friendly but not so helpful taking dresses in and out of bags. This place is pretty small so avoid bringing a big group with you if you can.
I was so happy my daughter-in-law to be found her dress in this intimate shop. The volunteer staff was so friendly. The prices so very reasonable, many choices under $1000 and under $500. I recommend it highly.
There are a lot of different dresses to choose from here. The volunteers are super helpful. There is a very experienced taylor onsite who can answer all kinds of questions about how the dresses can be adjusted. The money goes to charity!
Nancy our assistant was first class! The entire staff was amazing, very happy my fiancé was able to find her dream dress here and we could contribute to this amazing establishment! Thank you Donna, Nancy and Team for helping to add to our amazing day!
This was the second bridal shop I came to, and the whole experience was just awful. My wonderful future mother in law came to see me try on dresses, and since she arrived before I did, she heard Donna the manager at the main desk give tons of information to another bride who came in. She told her about where the dresses come from and where the proceeds go, everything. When I came in I got none of that. And since the other clerks were busy with customers (though I had an appointment too), Donna helped me with my dresses. If you can call it helping. She let me pick through a very small selection of dresses myself, and when I tried them on I had to catch her attention and ask for her to help button and lace me. She was far too occupied with talking to other volunteers and trying to figure out her tablet. Im not one to leave bad reviews, but this whole place left a bad taste in my mouth. After I left (having tried on only 3 dresses), my future mother in law told me how I didnt get the same shpeal everyone else had, and how inattentive my attendant was. Apparently, there is a separate room of couture gowns with tons of selection, but no one told me that! I took my business elsewhere and had wonderful experiences at both Bridals by Elena (ask for Terri!) and Love and Lace in Edgewater MD where I found my perfect dress for a great price. It seems plenty of yelp reviews have noted how badly Donna treated them. I think if this establishment would replace the manager, a lot of problems would be fixed.
Would-be donators bewareI made the emotional decision to donate my wedding dress some months after my wedding for a few reasons; I was trying to give back to the community, save precious closet space, and honestly because I loved my dress and wanted someone else to experience its magic. The gown was beautiful and in great condition, but with some mud along the hem from walking around outside. I had the dress cleaned but the hem was still discolored, but nothing (in my opinion) that distracted from the dress. I dropped off my donation to an appreciative support staff at Fairy Tale Brides, but was called the following day by someone who proceeded to absolutely insult me and my dress. She said it was in terrible shape, there was no way anyone would buy this, asked me if I had been sweating excessively (it was a December wedding), and concluded by informing me the dress was practically pink and unacceptable. I was shocked and horrified- not only did this not make sense to me, as I had personally inspected the dress before donation, but I was incredibly hurt. If the dress wasnt up to their standards, there are a thousand better ways to kindly inform someone (who is donating perhaps the most important and personal garment theyve ever worn) that the shop cant accept it for whatever reason. If I had been trying to resell it, I understand a harsher critique, but to make me feel like Ive done some great injustice, or that my dress is ugly, is a terribly unprofessional and straight up ugly way to run a business. Absolutely shameful to make a new bride feel shamed about her beloved wedding dress, and foolish for trying to do the right thing.
I did not have a lot in mind when I was looking for my perfect dress, but it was waiting for me in this store!! It was only the 2nd shop I went to when looking for dresses, and as soon as I tried on the 3rd dress in the store I knew it was the one because I started crying! I was a size 14 when I tried on these dresses and no one was rude about it! This store is great to help you either get ideas for the kind of dress you may want, or to find the dress you want at a great price! Since I was able to save so much on my dress, I could spend it on other great things for the wedding, like a better photographer to take pictures in the dress! It was also really nice to get one on one attention in a smaller store where the employees can really focus on you and what you are looking for in a dress. Also, while some of the dresses are 2nd hand, some of them have never been worn because they come from other bridal stores who cannot sell certain dresses, so the one I got had never even been worn. Not that that would have mattered much since all of the dresses looked like they had never been worn. You will NOT be disappointed with a dress you get from this store. I sure wasnt!
Very sweet staff eager to help. Reasonable price points and selection considering they are used
Great service, with friendly and knowledgeable volunteers! There is a good size collection, but not a huge amount.
I like the concept but, for Mother of the Bride/Groom, found it expensive and lacking any decent selection. They did seem to have quite a few gowns for brides - not sure of the price. The Mother of.....dresses were very expensive, especially for used dresses.
They are great
