This place is the perfect mix between rustic and foodie. They only have locally sourced food in all of their dishes.Whether you get the coffee, the waffles, the biscuits or anything else, you’ll enjoy it every time.I got the bronco and was very pleased with the country fried steak and the biscuit.Take a stroll in downtown rockwall after you finish your meal, the downtown is very walkable and then you feel less bad about how much you just ate! :)
Went there for a quick lunch. The food on the menu sounded good. I ordered a sandwich and a glass of water. It took 40 minutes to get my food order. The bread was so hard and dry, I thought I would break a tooth. Not worth the mo ney or time. Not on my go again list.
Very lovely place, with a nice atmosphere, and a little above average food, presentation of the food was nice, and the coffee was very tasteful, there is plenty of room for improvement in the customer service area, the waitress seem very overwhelmed, probably understaffed, or maybe they can use some more training. This is coming from a former bar owner, and with many years in the hospitality business.
Amazing food, amazing staff, great coffee, and just a nice place all-around. Been coming here for several years, and its been terrific every time whether it be with friends or spending my morning with a book.Would recommend the Captain Caveman Waffle. Its hard to try anything else after having that.
Really cool and laidback atmosphere. Delicious food with plenty of variety. Our server Madisen was attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. Be sure to check out the bathroom if you are a Shel Silverstein fan.
We just walked in to inquire about if they had mimosas and believed that we had ordered our drinks to go with the hostess. She took our orders and directed us away from the host stand back into the foyer. We had believed we had ordered our drinks with the hostess when a tall, bearded man with a hat barked at us if we were ordering. We explained we had ordered and he demanded if we had paid, we said no, that we were waiting for our drinks from the hostess. He rudely told us we were wrong, that we need to order there. So my mother paid for the drinks and we waited. The drinks were slid over to us and he immediately started walking away. We asked for straws and he snapped at us that theyre over there. He then explained when asked that he was management named Davis.I work in hospitality and send people to the Book Club Cafe on a daily basis because I was under the impression it was worth it to eat here. I apparently was wrong if management is this rude. We are very disappointed.
So overall the food was good but place was nothing like we would expect it to be. By the name of it I was thinking of a cafe with actual books in it, it’s actually really bare in the inside. Though I do have to say I really did enjoy the Indie Rock playlist . But there was a few things my husband and coworker wanted but they were out of some of the stuff to make it so the girl just started off naming all the stuff that they didn’t have. I have a feeling this place has some growing pains it needs to work through, but overall it’s a okay place.
The bomb!!! First off starting with the waitress; she was the best that we have had in years in the rockwall/dallas area thats saying something. Secondly, the food was very tasty on a scale of 1 to 10 I would give it a solid 9.5, it was fluffy/fresh and light. Oh, the homemade syrup is awesome they need to bottle this product. Needless to say, we will be going back very soon. We had a little wait before our food came but it was well worth it... no complaints 👌
There is a very good selection of food. Ive been twice. I only had toast and jam the first time which was delicious. The second visit I had French toast with eggs and bacon, also very tasty. The wait staff is courteous and helpful. Im a tea drinker and wish there was a better selection of teas. The cafe has a good vibe and is clean. Ill definitely return!
The food is really delicious but I don’t know what it is about the coffee… every time I’ve visited the coffee tastes like it’s been sitting there for a very long time. I’m almost positive they make multiple pots and just have it sit in their large carafes for hours.
Book Club is a great place with a couple minor issues - major one being consistency. I tend to get the same thing now because I can count on it being great every time, but when I first started going there and I was trying out different menu items it was very hit and miss. Sweet Emotion waffle, great. Chicken and waffles, lackluster. Hot dogs, solid. Chicken salad, bit of a miss. The breakfast tends to be better than the lunch in terms of quality and the atmosphere is far more welcoming in the morning than the afternoon. Coffee is phenomenal - by far the best latte Ive had, period - not sure what they use for their espresso but their ratios are very well dialed in. Their flavored lattes are never too sweet, and their custom drinks with what I believe are house made syrups are always fantastic.Between the breakfast, coffees, and not even mentioning their mimosas and their mimosa flight - Bookclub is a great brunch spot in Rockwall. Just make sure to call ahead to get your name on the list as they fill up quick, and be careful with the lunch side of the menu.
I love this spot for a quick coffee and study session or even come in and enjoy the full breakfast menu! Their waffles are fluffy and the coffee is great. Servers are always so sweet. Very much a farm to table vibe.
Really great food. Very unique menu options and quality creations! Belgian waffle is house made and amazing, even down to the uncrusted toast with a generous helping of jam on top is great! If you are looking for eggs and toast there is an ihop down the road. If you are looking for a quality Hardy breakfast/brunch then head here and your money will be well spent.
The food here was absolutely amazing! We really enjoyed it and will definitely be back to try other delicious foods. However, we did have to wait quite a while to be seated. We expected a long wait for a Saturday morning, however, there were several booths and tables consistently open that no one was being seated at. We only had a party of 2 so we expected to get seated much faster than we did. Especially when we were eyeing all the empty booths that we perfect for just 2 people. Not sure if they didnt have enough staff to clear the tables quickly or not, but it was a little disappointing. Again, the food was delicious though. We had the patty melt and the one-eyed-Willie along with their famous fries. I would also recommend their apple cider. It was the PERFECT remedy for a cold rainy day!
We have been to the book club Cafe in rowlett before and it was great, but not alot of food choice. When we came to this location, we got a large selection of food and the dining area was much larger. Overall the food tasted good and the servers were very friendly. I would recomend going there for breakfast or lunch. Prices were also very reasonable and they were high quality.
Alyssa our waitress was great, food was really good. Nice place
Unfortunately, we didn’t have a good experience. Food is mediocre. Service is awful. Hospitality non existent.1) The teenager who waited on us didn’t know how to order a coffee drink that is half caffeine. I explained that it’s one shot decaf, one shot caffeine, but she insisted that it was not possible LOL. Weird.2) the A/C seemed to not be working well so we asked to move away from the table in the window due to the sun and the heat, and we were told that it wasn’t possible because that would be another server’s section and she needed the money. She also apologized for being “greedy”. So we sat at a table y to e window in the summer heat sweating. It was pretty dang uncomfortable.3) It took about 45 mins to get our food….basic salads and sandwiches. It was laughable honestly. Seems like the owners have a lot of potential here but definitely need to spend some time training the staff. Teenagers are cheap but without good training can be a detriment to your business.Won’t be back.
Great coffee and decent food. Waffles, pancakes, and hash potatoes were good. The eggs didnt smell or taste good and the waitress offered to replace them. We declined so she took it off the bill. Will be coming back.
Always enjoy grabbing breakfast here. Great food and coffee, tunes and service.
Had no idea I could go in to just get a latte. Glad to have another local coffee place. Will definitely be going back.
A great coffee shop and restaurant in downtown Rockwall! Wonderful breakfast and brunch options for dining in and coffee for the road. You can also find a small selection of coffee and brewing items for sale, including their very own whole bean coffee roasted in-house!
Great selection of gluten-free food! The gluten-free bread and waffles that I ordered were absolutely amazing! So fluffy on the inside but had a crisp outside and was without that bitter taste that gluten-free bread can sometimes have! Customer service was great! The only reason why I can’t give this place five stars is the coffee was very bitter and the parking situation was pretty difficult so if you have anyone who is handicapped I recommend dropping them off and then searching for a parking spot. I had the blood orange Mimosa which was actually pretty large and tasted great🥂
I loved the atmosphere, we did I have a 40 minute wait but thats okay downtown had allot of boutiques and small specialty stores, my daughter had the club sandwich and I had the Dee Kommissar Dawg homemade house mustard, homemade saurkruat and relish had them add red onionThis was the best beef hotdogs I have ever had I will be back for more .When got home my daughter kept say she want to go get another club 🥪. Elisa was are waitress very polite let us know right what wasnt available which is great to me and order came out perfect
Why is it so difficult for restaurants in the suburbs to make good food? The omelette was a pile of mush because they did not sauté the veggies first and their pans are not hot enough. The pancake was super flat and tasteless. The homemade maple syrup was good and all the servers were polite and attentive. Cool atmosphere, great music at a low volume and subpar food.
Awesome London Fog tea, and their fresh biscuits and breads are great.
Cool place, definite hipster vibes, makes me feel old. But the food is good. Wish their was a bit more of a menu, but overall everything is very good. 5 Stars!
I have to say we were pretty impressed with this place! While the name is what brought us there initially - we expected some kind of books to be there available to read or buy as you were dining- the food is what will bring us back. We were greeted immediately by our waiter who was very informative about the cafe, the food, the drinks, and told us about where each product comes from that he suggested as well as other menu items we pointed out. For example my boyfriend got the honey lemonade and the honey is from a 13 year old who has his on bees he gets honey from! It is a bit pricey but you can get good quality food here! They have gluten free options as well! All of our food was amazing and the server checked on us several times to ensure we were doing okay. We will definitely be back!
Great coffee....get The Benny! Great food...get one of the Signatures! And get a biscuit on the side with the honey sweetened butter and strawberry jam. Ask for Carly as your server... shes great!! Love the atmosphere and vibes...will be back!!
Absolutely excellent! The wait staff was very polite and attentive. The food is exceptional and high quality. This is the kind of place thats hard to find when youre traveling. It feels like youre surrounded by chain after chain, all filled with cheap, low quality food.I ordered the chicken and waffles and added on eggs and bacon. Everything was made in house and it showed. I wish I had spent the time to research it out for yesterdays breakfast as well. The coffee is also on point. I had an americano and ended up ordering another one to go. So good!
The primary purpose of a Cafe is to provide good food and they do this very well. My breakfast this morning was delicious and exactly right for that moment in time. Some Wi-Fi would have been nice though. Its totally a Wi-Fi vibe in there, but they do not provide any. Perhaps they dont want people to linger as they often do when Wi-Fi is present. Turning tables means more profit. At any rate, dont shirk this place. They will feed you well.
Disappointing lunches. Spinach salad topped with chicken salad was fair. Patty melt on second visit was bland and meat was unseasoned and rubbery. Tomato basil soup tasted similar to spaghetti sauce rather than creamy with hint of herbs. Will probably give it one more shot but will try breakfast rather than lunch.
The atmosphere and service are spectacular, yes. Nothing comes close to the delicious coffee they serve. Ive been a coffee addict for decades and am so impressed with this cafe. I highly recommend the local.
One of our favorite breakfast and lunch spots any day of the week. The staff is great, especially sweet Noah! And the food is creative and awesome. If you like bland, basic cafe food, this isn’t for you. They love to put eggs or gravy or cheese or bacon jam on something that you wouldn’t think of. Speaking of, the bacon jam is delicious, as is the homemade herb ranch. They locally source their ingredients and the prices reflect this, which I can appreciate. And everything, including their yummy bread, is made daily, so don’t be surprised if they’re out of something. It happens at great, local restaurants like this. Try the Benny coffee made with bourbon or the nitro cold brew!
My cappucino was top notch, Sam I Am breakfast was perfect (size/taste) and service was good. Plus, nice to see this side of Rockwall.
Big room with tables and chairs, no atmosphere at all. Viewed the menu and items seemed pricey. Hostess was busy talking to other workers to pay attention to us. Left without ordering anything. The place was not inviting at all.
Excellent coffee, best thing on the menu is the biscuit with sausage gravy and all the breakfast items. The place could use a few tweaks here and there. For example, the tomato soup needs to be creamier and more like a bisque. Otherwise, it tastes like a cup of canned tomatoes with garlic. Please get a more reliable oatmilk supplier. And every sandwich needs to have toasted bread. It just elevates the flavor and presentation of the sandwich so much! I didnt know my first time and was so sad when I saw my sandwich. I asked to change the bland cold bread slices for toasted bread and it tasted and looked so much better.
Great place for coffee, food, etc... great atmosphere and friendly staff!
Their coffee is fantastic! I have yet to explore the rest of the menu but the caveman waffle was tasty and would definitely get again. They said the French toast is a favorite and so Ill probably get that next time.
Great food! Biscuits with made from scratch sausage gravy. You have to try it. Very friendly and helpful waitstaff.
Have been here twice and both times the food and the service were excellent. The coffee is exceptional and their homemade bread is delicious. The menu has so many unique choices...just a delightful cafe all around.
Quaint atmosphere and pleasant staff. They have limited Gluten Free options, but our waitress wasnt well informed. She thought their regular white bread was probably gluten free as well. Baked goods, including the bread, are delicious. The mustard is freshly made. Like honey mustard in texture and flavor. Tasty with their fries which were freshly made and nicely seasoned.
Trendy coffee and breakfast spot located on the square in Rockwall. Spacious inside with an urban feel, they have a great options for food and drinks at a more than fair price. Definitely go for the Migas, the espresso salsa was delicious. Much better than some other breakfast options in the area!
Great food, great service---the gentlemen behind the counter literally gave me his trucker hat when I complimented him on it. Will definitely be going back. Get the biscuits and gravy!
I have been here so many times and it is always great! They dont just have wonderful coffee - they have a full breakfast and lunch menu. Pancakes, biscuits and gravy, burgers, hot dogs, etc... its all WONDERFUL. Highly recommend.
Used to love going to this place when I was in town. The manager was extremely rude when we asked for a drink to be re made and said it was our fault bc we picked up late. We purchased another coffee anyway but the manager was still extremely rude about it. Wont be coming here again. Sucks because this place was very good when the first opened...
The breakfast was Delicious. Omg. Rachel took very good care of us. Being our first time, she made recommendations and shared the Book Club experience. We will return. 💜🏆
AhhhMAZIN!!! Must go if you havent already. Ive been told its good now I can VOUCH for that
Love this place, bummed that I live so far away from it! The Benny is hands down one of the best lattes I’ve ever had, and I’ve never had a bad order here. They’re also great about social distancing and enforcing mask policies. Great food and great service!
Absolutely incredible! The service is magnificent and the food is even better! Even when they’re busy and there’s a bit of a wait it’s completely worth it! They also follow all necessary COVID precautions and procedures. They’re so kind to everyone and it’s always a welcoming atmosphere
This place is a gem. The herbivore sandwich on the pretzel bun is amazing. The lattes are better than any I have had at any other restaurant. The service is good. It is a relaxed environment. I love it!
Let me be clear.. The Coffee deserves 6-stars.. The Bearded Barista guy is outstanding. Youd be hard pressed not to find a good cup of coffee here. The only reason for the 4-star rating is the breakfast I had. Eggs and gravy were too peppery, scrambled eggs were really watery, and the bacon was like the microwave ready-to-eat bacon. I really want to give them 5 stars but the food leaves you desiring just a bit. If the food was up to pay with the coffee they would need a much bigger location! Lol but please stop in for your coffee needs, whatever they may be!
Ive been going to Book Club since they opened and I love it! Ive done hours of school work while sipping on an iced benny latte and have no complaints! The food (especially the toast) is delicious and the atmosphere is great. A great place to stop in for lunch or an afternoon pick-me-up!
This place is such a treasure! The staff are all so personable and helpful and go above and beyond to give the best service possible. And the biscuits and gravy are the best I’ve ever tasted! We are so lucky to have this gem in our town!
Great food and even better service
I give this place a 3 star because its either a hit or miss. Theres a few times weve gone that was very pleasant where the service was quick and the food was good but when they miss, they really miss... specifically the waiting time to be seated can be very lonnnngggg, and the food would taste bad. I think the last straw for us is when we ordered something with fries. The fries were way too salty and we asked if it can be fixed. The reply that was given was, all their fries are made this way. Which was untrue because weve had their fries numerous times before and they were really good.... that time, really not. So we stopped coming.
Please do yourself a favor and order the French toast! It has a custard like consistency and is delicious!
Great place to hangout and have excellent coffee.
Busy but not really worth it. Food was bland.
We used to love Book Club Cafe and went frequently. I do not know what has happened but the last 3-4 times we have visited the staff is not friendly, the food is below average and slow even when it is not crowded and it seems like the place hasnt had a good cleaning since opening. Hope they can turn it around.
The Book Club has great food, warm staff but what I love most is the atmosphere. I enjoy my time there on each visit. I highly recommend them, you will not be disappointed
This was seriously the best place Ive been to in a while. The food is made to order, all fresh local ingredients. I told the cashier Id never been before and she immediately asked if she could tell me a little bit about the place, which I LOVED. all the staff was friendly. The food was AMAZING. I highly recommend the Night Shift fries.
I went in to their counter to place a to go order and had a drink from Starbucks with me. The (I’m assuming manager) comes out and with a very harsh and rude tone tells me there are no outside drinks allowed. I tell him we’re just placing a to go order and he makes me take the drink outside and sit it on the bench to come back in and place my order. Seriously ! I was not even inside the restaurant. When I go back in to place my order I ask for 3 waters at which time I’m told you can only buy bottles of water. I get my receipt and get charged .68 for paper goods. I know times are tough for restaurants but treating a customer like youre doing them some great favor for allowing them to spend money in your establishment is no way to run a business. I will not be back.
Great place for local ingredient food and awesome coffee! The best place around for a top notch cup of coffee.
The food and service here is always suburb.
Omlette was cooked perfectly. Really good biscuits too. We really enjoyed this place! We will be back soon
I wanted to like this place. Its cute and in downtown Rockwall. It was my first time here and I brought my kids too. The coffee was good, the food was ok. But then it got weird - It was pouring rain and when we walked in, I let the girl behind the counter know it was our first time visiting. She asked me to review the menu to order. We ordered food and drinks. When we go to sit down, I was told the seating was only for guests ordering to stay and eat. I let her know we ordered at the counter and was told that was TO GO ONLY. I ask for our order to be transferred as a TO STAY order and the manager came out to inform me that the order could not be changed and that her staff depends on tips (I did tip when I ordered - as a former server, I ALWAYS tip). Since I accidently ordered TO GO, we were not allowed to sit in the café. Were we kicked out? It sure seemed that way. Again, first time here and didnt understand the format of the café - as the signage in the seating section was not visible and the girl behind the counter just took our order. I confirmed with the manager that we were not welcome to stay and that we had to eat in our car - she said yes. Mind you, the café had about 10 tables available for seating. Again, I really wanted to like this place, but we wont be going back. Thats no way to treat customers. We left feeling like we did something wrong, even my kiddos asked why they kicked us out. In retrospect, I should have just canceled the order and asked for my money back and gone somewhere else. Live and learn.
I love supporting local and I love it even more when the business is truly great. This restaurants location in downtown Rockwall makes it a great location for meetups and networking. Plus, the food is amazing and the coffee is fantastic.
I wish I could give 0 stars!!!! Negative stars!!! My coffee tasted like sugar water and the manager’s solution was to add more watered down cold brew. I also ordered an oatmilk latte that tasted sour. Rockwall needs a new coffee spot because this place is the definition of low quality...terrible service as well. When I asked if my coffee could be remade, the manager (a man with a long beard) told me the coffee tasting bad was my fault because I did not pick it up fast enough. Maybe this place should consider a new type of ice for their drinks that doesnt melt instantly... I have worked as a barista for 4 years and I would never blame coffee quality on a customer. I will NEVER return here again.
We love the breakfast there Great food and yummy coffee!
Update 10/2020: I come here for the occasional brunch/lunch with friends. Most of my below notes reign true. I do like it. The stomp omelette or the sweet emotion sandwich are my go-to faves. And now ive added the oatmeal to that list (seriously, how could oatmeal be that good?). I get the occasional latte as their cappuccinos are not only too big, but too milky and not well crafted. Overall, it’s a good place to come, but I still think it has vast room for improvement.I’m upping my original 3 ⭐️ to 4 stars because I do go somewhat regularly and do like it. However, I still believe there is much room for improvement.Original review:The atmosphere: okay, it’s the BOOK club cafe. Where are the books? Where are signs/posters advertising they even have a book club? Do they? Why don’t they play up the name more? I’m sure book clubs meat there, but it feels like they should host their own. How cool would that be? Maybe they do, and I’m wrong? They could even sell the book club book each month. But even besides that, the building feels pretty sparse. It’s not very inviting. The booths are hard wood slats and not very comfortable. If you want to sit and work, there seems to be one spot to do that at the front. Okay cool. That’s not a bad idea to separate that part off. But then there’s the big open space behind that before you get to tables. Idk. It’s not bad, I just feel the space could be used more wisely and could be more inviting. The food: it’s good. Not great. I have yet to have anything that makes me dream about it. Hey. I love food. Food is life. Good food makes me dream about it. I don’t have dreams about the food here. The omelet I had was good. Not special, but good. The sandwiches are fine. Not spectacular, just fine. But they aren’t anything I can’t make at home. Their menu items don’t have anything truly special about them. This is the kind of place that should have its own in-house jams, butters, and/or cheeses. Maybe they do, and I missed them. I’ve been a handful of times now, and nothing like that sticks out.The coffee: oh the coffee. How I love my coffee. How I wish I could love their coffee. Sorry, but I don’t. It’s just not that great. So many people rave about how great it is. I realize that by Rockwall standards, it may be. And I also recognize my issue might be that I’m really Italian at heart. I love a nice strong cappuccino. Do I get that here? Nope! Not even close. They have 12ox caps and put one shot in them. Okay. Okay. This may not sound bad but it’s terrible. This is the Starbucks ratio. Italians do one shot per 6-8oz on average. That means a 12 is drink should have minimum 2 shots. But why not offer an 8oz cappuccino? And when you do make them, why aren’t they as pretty as the lattes? Even if not pretty, they should still taste good, but they are just meh. When you go to real coffee places that know how to make real cappuccinos, you will know what I’m talking about. But no, BCC makes them too American. People go to places like this because they don’t want the American standard. At least that’s what I do! Why would I come here for coffee when I can get the same thing at Starbucks and it’s much more convenient? If they had better coffee (okay cappuccinos, because I have dreams about good cappuccinos), then I would go out of my way to come here over anywhere else. But there’s no point. And the worst part is, they don’t seem to care. I reached out to someone via fb message about my concerns. I didn’t even get a response. I didn’t care that they wouldn’t change a thing off my opinions (I’m just one person, after all), but to not even acknowledge you heard what I said? That’s just frustrating. The takeaway: this is not a bad place. It’s nice. The reason I’m giving it my standard 3star, meh rating is because it has the potential to be great. I’m just not sure they care enough to make it great.
