I had the pleasure of doing business with this company for the first time this week, with an urgent need for railroad ties. Every single person I spoke with was polite and helpful. The best part though was the delivery driver, Anthony. Not only was he so polite when he called to let me know when he would be arriving, he helped me strategize how to get the timbers back on our acreage without killing my baby pear trees, or disturbing my mothers ashes that are in the pear grove. He was so careful. This type of customer service is rare these days. THANK YOU, ANTHONY! I am now a customer for life, and wish I had been to Whittleseys before now. 5 solid stars.

The staff was very friendly and they had a great selection. What I found very helpful was the indoor display bin that had mulch and rock samples with labels and pricing! That made it so easy. They also had a booklet with pricing available. I also went to the landscape supply place in Round Rock today. I plan to make my purchase from Whittlesey based on how friendly they were and how much easier it was to identify and price the items.

Went there one afternoon to purchase just over 2 pallets of flagstones, with sand and DG for my patio. Staff was helpful with selection, and patient with getting the weight right on the scale. Delivery setup was smooth, and it was delivered in the morning 4 days later as promised. Delivery was available as soon as 2 days later but not convenient for us. The pallets were set up nicely by the delivery crew on the driveway. Couldnt ask for better. Thank you Whittlesey.

Whittlesey has nice nice courteous staff and gets things done quickly to help customers get back to our tasks at hand.

The delivery driver was very rude and aggressive with my neighbors. He blocked our residential road and refused to move when they needed to pass. He then refused to pull through our double gate that we regularly pull our RV through. He actually made my husband get a measuring tape out and after 30 minutes of arguing with him, him arguing with my neighbors, and Whittlsey themselves calling both him and me.. he pulled through and made the delivery.Whittlsey reached out for a detailed account of my experience and said they wanted to make it right by refunding some of the material cost or possibly the delivery. At the time they reached out I mentioned that many of my initial emails went unanswered and that purchasing (and delivering) materials from them was kind of a nightmare. They asked me to forward the emails I sent that got no response and they seemed genuinely concerned about the overall experience.I emailed them everything they asked for (I did not initiate any of this myself, this was 100% them) and they’d topped responding. I sent two follow up emails asking why they wanted my detailed account if they had no plans to respond and again went ignored. I need a second delivery of 500 square feet of stone to lay on the 500 square feet of DG I bought and will not be going here.

Wish they were more friendly toward small projects. They wanted me to purchase an entire pallet of slabs when I only need 2 pieces. The customer behind me wanted to do the same and we ended up leaving and taking our business elsewhere.

Very nice place and good customer service

I came to buy 2 tons of patio stone and a few small bags of rainbow rock to complete my front yard landscape. They no longer sell it in small bags, they had a fit when I walked inside with my mask on and told me to go back outside and find the guy with a tablet (who wore a chin diaper). The patio stone that is nice is a dollar more than the one I was quoted on. I had a great experience here prior to Covid but now they are not helpful at all. I’ll take my business elsewhere.

Do not spend your time or money here. The first time we went, we got accused (and yelled at) for trying to cut in line to make a purchase when we were trying figure out how to even select our products with the lack of directions and being ignored by staff. Still did not get help until I picked up a palate I found and walked it all the way over to what we needed. Guy apologized profusely, made it right, and we purchased a 1/2 ton of landscape stone, sand, fill stone, and decomposed granite. Assuming that was a fluke, I went back, with my 9 year old daughter in tow, to grab a few large matching landscape stones to complete my project and had THE most bizarre customer experience of my life. They were adamant I had to purchase stones from the few remaining pieces of a palate, stones that were too large or way to small for what I needed. I told them the specific number of stones I needed and what size, and that size happened to be on the top of the new palate right beside the almost empty one. Had one super helpful staff member helping me, apologizing for his coworkers. Had another guy being super confrontational come over multiple times while I picked out the stones from the new palate. Also has his nose hanging out of his mask while he was talking me and had to ask him THREE times to pull that thing over his nose. Finally after raising enough of a stink about being challenged by multiple employees about what stones I was allowed to buy, another guy running the sales register came over, saw what I was being asked to purchase, helped me finish getting the last of my stones, all while my kid was watching, in the heat, sweating her butt off. I will say, that if I was a male, I don’t think I would have been harassed, stood over, and challenged. Told my daughter on the way home sometimes as a female, when you are treated unfairly you just have to stand your ground and not take garbage. Need more black star gravel, but will be trying Round Rock landscape Supply.

This people tried to help me on the price but, by doing so it completely screwed up the order. The order was very hard to find on delivery day. On delivery day they didnt have the material on hand and told me I wasnt going to have to wait and they would send out a different material....moments later they said No, you are waiting on that original material....and the story goes on and on. This isnt the first time my order got screwed up and to make things worst they are very rude. Be careful whenever you come here, hopefully you have a better experience, as for me, this will be my last resort for materials!

Place has great selection. The staff also answered my questions. Getting a 3 because was not impressed with delivery. I went in on a Monday and made a large purchase of mulch and decomposed granite. I was told the delivery would occur on Wednesday. I wait around all day Wednesday for them to deliver (they dont give a time estimate of when theyll arrive) and get a phone call saying that they forgot to charge me for one of the trucks. Which was fine, everyone makes mistakes, so I had to authorize another $100 delivery charge. However, neither truck came that day. Next day, I have to wait around all day again, only one truck comes. So, I had to call and be put on hold while they called dispatch, and the other load wasnt delivered until late Friday. If you dont have to have anything delivered, the place is fine. However, we went to Round Rock Landscape Supply for the rest of our project and were much more impressed with them.

I am a relatively new gardener and needed help with the math for dirt for a new set of raised beds. I called and they helped me with the math and we placed an order and delivery. They were professional and kind, HOWEVER they completely sold me the wrong amount of dirt is was three times less than we needed. It was really discouraging and disheartening to realize we had wasted money on the delivery that wasnt even the correct amount. Be warned. Make sure you do your own math before making the call.

We bought some landscaping gravel since we have time with this whole virus scare and there was a line almost out of the frontage road. So we wait about 20 min which is understandable. Go to window and ask for the small lime stone rocks mind you there is no list of prices by the outside windows when you order. Their list online is out of date. So got charged for screen limestone didn’t notice until I got the paper work and paid. Asked a worker there that I needed to go back to the window (they have us wait in your vehicle) and told me I had to go back in line 20+ cars I was like I already waited can’t they just fix it? Told the guy it’s a dollar difference and after a small convo, he radio the loader to give us the 5/8 and not the 3/8 which it cost more the one I bought. We got the rock we wanted but could of had a better experience.

Fast and Easy. I needed bulk soil for a raised garden bed. I didnt even have to get out of my truck.

Horrible customer service. I was speaking to one of the yard hands when he turned his back and started walking away exclaiming “we don’t have that” and kept walking. After I walked back in front of him to ask him to clarify I was told to go talk to Steve at window 2. I spoke to Steve to which Steve had the same lack of regard. I went back to check my accounts to see that I have spent almost $7,000 with them within the last 12 months and this order I was trying to make was over $2,000 by itself but since I “don’t have an account” that doesn’t seem to matter. I will not return to this place and will advise everyone I do business with to do the same.

Got the raised garden mix and was extremely disappointed with it. There were large clay chunks between 6-12 inches making it difficult to shovel when you have to stop and pull these out. It was mixed poorly and when it rained formed a solid layer on top with the sand separating out. The pro mix is so much better and cheaper.

Employees were not very friendly. We are truck drivers and I hope they treat their customers better. Was not allowed to use the bathroom until 7 am even though employees were around.

I wanted to show my appreciation to the employees at Whittlesey at the Round Rock location. Every time I have been there I have received excellent service. The last time I was there I was helped by Javier Vargas Morales. He really stood out because he was so polite, professional, hard working, respectful, patient and happy! He helped me with loading up bags of gravel and there wasnt enough and I was in a hurry and he made sure that I got my gravel in a timely manner and all loaded up perfectly. It makes such a different from the clients point of view to have people help you that have a smile on their face and that you can tell they LOVE their job!!! Thank you Javier!

Very rude customer service. Tried to tell me it was going to take two weeks to open a cash account for a company. Then wanted to charge me double the price because I was a retail customer even though the company name is on my shirt and all over my truck. What a joke.

I have been a customer of Whittleseys for over 5 years until today. I used to be charged $20 for a truckload of pallets but today charged me $55.80. I went to the office to get a refund and was told sorry but our records dont indicate a charge of $20 on my account. I told the dumb manager, that is correct because you didnt ever reference my account. Bye bye Whittleseys, loyalty doesnt mean anything, anymore.

I have been in the landscaping business for 5 years. My relationship with Whittlesey has been one of the reasons for my success. They are knowledgeable about their product. Convenient to get to, and now with the brush dump having its own office, it is very convenient. The quality of their Mulch, soil, and rock have impressed even my pickiest customers. Weather you are tackling a small project or installing a large commercial project, they got what you need.

They have everything you need, from stone to soil. I really appreciate this place. They have a great brush recycling place across the street. AND they support Veterans.

Although there staff is few, they are very knowledgeable. Their selection is great and prices are fair. Because they cater to business and public it is best to do a little research on your own before heading out. Although its worth the wait to speak with any of their staff. They are also very generous when it comes to non profit and charitable organizations. Overall Ive always been very pleased! it is easy to achieve professional results with the selection they have available.

If I could no star that would be the true review. I have never received such horrible service. I shop locally as much as possible and I would NOT recommend this place to anyone and actually will make sure to tell everyone never use them. Not only did they not deliver on the promise they stated and rescheduled several times, did not return phone calls or emails... They STILL have my money! Horrible Horrible service!

These guys are very helpful and have almost every kind of stone and soil you could need. They can deliver everything to your house. I ordered 5 yards of garden soil and they helped me with all the questions I had. The lady at the desk was very helpful.

This place is amazing, showed up late called before and they were considerate of my deadline and helped me even though it was after 5pm . Thank you so much. The place is huge alot of area you cant see from the road driving by I recommend stopping by and looking for yourself in person to understand!

I have used Whittlesey for decades for personal landscape supplies. Fair prices, great assortment, prompt delivery. I would give them a fifth star but on a delivery of gravel last week the driver hung his dump bucket on a power line on the way down and was unaware of it. He continued to try and force the bed down until the line almost snapped instead of getting out and looking up at what his dump bed was hung up on. Then he pulled forward while my daughter and I were frantically trying to shout and signal him. He was still driving away when the line finally snapped free, fortunately unbroken. So no fifth star for safety this time. Still a great company with a great staff and great product which I will continue to buy.

I was supposed to have a delivery made June 17th, in the afternoon.I bought and paid for dirt to be delivered and also rented equipment from another store to move that dirt. I was told it would be delivered that afternoon and would receive a phone call when they were on their way to deliver. I had been waiting since 4pm for that delivery. I did not get my dirt or a phone call. I called the Round Rock store around 05:45pm, only to speak with a female who informed me that I was not getting my delivery because everyone was gone. I informed her that I had scheduled and paid for today. She seemed to care less and just told me that I would get it first thing in the morning. I informed her that is not what I scheduled and paid for. I am terribly disappointed in the level of service I have received from this company. This is a horrible way to run a business. If you cant make all the deliveries, you shouldnt schedule them. And just because I am not a commercial business does not mean that I do not deserve good service. They certainly didnt have any issue taking my money.

The inside customer area is neat and organized with a wall of bins with a sample of all their bulk landscaping products. From gravel to mulch, soil to rocks...you can see what is offered without walking around the entire grounds outside. Its also good to have a side by side comparison to know exactly what youre buying.

The customer service for non-commercial shoppers isnt great... but it isnt the worst Ive had. You kind of have to expect that going in, though, I think. If I want somebody to walk me through everything and discuss all the options, etc. etc., I go to Home Depot... and pay 3-4 times more. Good experience overall.

Not sure why so many people are hating on them. Whittlesey is the only place I buy dirt, mulch and river rock from. Great prices, great service & great selection!

So the service here has always been awesome and love to spin the tires and get muddy when the weather is extra moist. However my only unfair complaint is if you decide to purchase potting soil it definitely had fertilizer which the bomb dogs at the airport are on high alert. We got our tsa moneys worth.

I have read all the reviews below and I cannot disagree that customer service is far from being a strong suit for the staff. This is one of those places that if you know what you want (read their website ahead of a visit or a call) and keep the questions simple and to the point, you will get what you were after....mind you, you wont get it wrapped in a bow and delivered with a smile, but you will get access to a good variety of landscaping supplies at a competitive price. Their delivery charges are very high...so I just pick everything up in my pick up. Again, not customer service oriented, but you will see they are very busy so there must be something that brings people in and keeps em coming back...I just cannot say what that extraordinary thing might be! ;-)

Great prices when buying in bulk (per yard). I told one associate I was laying down pavers and he recommended granite sand. However a week later when I am about to buy my third yard of granite sand someone else tells me that I should of gone with decomposed granite and not granite sand. He stated the pros and cons and then I was pissed because I wasnt told that over 4000 pounds of sand ago.

We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Charles! He went out of his way to help some stranded strangers by bringing us a part from the auto store! Im sure his neighborly ways speak volumes for his customer service as well!

I was treated so terribly after this last delivery that Im never going here again. Its a long story, but it highlights how bad their customer service is.Ive been getting landscaping supplies from Whittlesey for 3 years now for my mulch, compost, and topsoil. I wanted to support a local business that had good products and pricing and they were always nice at the office. They were even accommodating to my wife and baby when she locked her keys in the car late on a Friday afternoon that we ordered Tiffs Treats for them as a token of our appreciation. I felt they always earned my business as a customer.I ordered 2 yards of topsoil and 3 yards of sand to topdress my yard to be delivered in two weeks in the morning for my landscapers to spread it. I called them two days before delivery to ask for an estimated time and Jake said to expect it around 10 am. I coordinated with my landscapers and thought all was well.Until they called me at 9am on the day of delivery to say they ran out of my sand. I was shocked at how they could run out of my order when I had reserved it two weeks ago, and that they called me right before I expected it when I had confirmed the order and delivery two days prior. I expected Whittlesey to substitute my sand for a better product but they wouldnt unless I paid the difference. I pleaded with them that they had to correct their mistake so after speaking to the manager a second time, they said they could substitute a better sand and that Id get $10 back. I was satisfied with that, but they said my order would be delivered in the afternoon, not in the morning as I had originally scheduled so I had to delay my landscapers.I get a call at 12:30pm when theyre ready to load up the truck and deliver my topdress mix. They confirm my order for 2 yards of topsoil and 2.5 yards of sand. Um, no, excuse me, I ordered 3 yards of sand, not 2.5 yards. The dispatcher says the ticket shows only 2.5 yards of sand, but tells me they can adjust it to 3 yards and to wait for a call back to pay for the extra 0.5 yards. I never got that call, and they delivered the order but the ticket still said only 2.5 yards of sand. I am furious by now.I try to call Whittlesey back to speak to a manager. The girl who helps me says I will get a call from the person who took my order. I never got that call. Im still waiting for that call 2 days later. I dont expect them to fix their mistake by now so Im sharing my story.So lets summarize Whittleseys mistakes and their lack of customer service. They ran out of my reserved order. They waited until an hour before its scheduled delivery to tell me. They refused to substitute for a better product unless I paid the difference. When they finally did after asking twice, they shorted me 0.5 yards. Clear bait and switch tactics. They avoided correcting their mistakes and have avoided compensating me for it.I wish this story wasnt true, but Im uploading my orders and tickets as proof so you can see Im not lying about their colossal mistakes. Theyve lost my business forever, and I hope this review makes you consider someone else with better service.

This compost product doesnt even add integrity to the structure of the soil!Thoroughly disappointed.

Regarding their brush drop-off: I am so thankful we discovered this place to dump our big landscaping brush, stumps and dead trees!!! We have a couple of wooded acres, & with this draught, havent been able to burn our stuff like we used to, & were at a loss as to what to do with it as it piled up for several years. Only $10 per trailer or pick-up load! Its quite a hoot too! You drive waaaay into their huge mulch lot to whatever brush pile they direct you to, driving over hill & dale on a soft-mulch pathway, past HUGE mulch piles & heavy equipment moving tree trunks & stuff everywhere! Dont go in a car - youll get stuck. And youll have to unload it yourself, so take your gloves & wear work shoes.

Not customer oriented, The short blonde young girl gives the worst customer service ever. She just walked away from talking to me, grabbed her bag and said she was going to lunch. Lots of landscaping supplies. Bring a truck and load it up! They do seem to round up on your weight occasionally, so be prepared to make note of your before/after weight.

This is for 2 specific products produced by this company.1 - Whittlesey Armadillo dirt - Do not confuse this DIllo Dirt. It is NOT Dillo dirt - it is some organic, nitrogen rich compost mixed with regular mulch that has been chopped up a bit finer. While you can use Dillo dirt as a top dressing for lawn, this leaves a complete mulchy mess. NOT SUITABLE FOR TOP DRESSING!Same goes for their Turkey compost. It is turkey manure mixed with wood shavings - and has not completely composted. As a result you have a layer of un-composted wood shavings on your lawn. Very disappointed overall.
