I’m giving this store 5 stars because of Carol. She was great! I had no idea what I was doing but she helped me pick everything out and educated me on the picks. It’s very intimidating and frustrating when you are trying to do landscaping but her time and patience made all the difference in my experience. She is seriously the best worker there I can’t give her enough praise. I send my friends and family to her specially! 10/10 if I could.

Ive bought 2 yellow gem Ficus from here and both died from spider mites! The first one I bought showed signs of mites after a few weeks at home. I tried to treat with neem oil and a new pot but died after the 30 day mark so I couldnt return it. Went back for another one thinking it was a fluke. The second one is now showing signs after I isolated it for 2 weeks and washed/neem oiled the plant right after getting it. I have over 30 indoor plants and none of them have ever got spider mites. I recommend going to Tellys instead. Never had any problem with my plants from there. Very disappointed, these were each $25 dollar plants 😡

Professional, friendly and organized! I went to located a peace lily and a fiddle leaf. They only had smaller sizes. So I purchased a snake plant, rubber plant and something else. Hopefully, they will thrive in a good way.

Amy was awesome and hospitable, I called the store looking for a plant, she told me they just got some in stock, I showed up and the moment I walked in the door she walked me right over to the plants and everything I was looking for! They had a large selection of indoor plants and pots, but they were all out of air plants that dont require any water. I did buy 2 plants that will require water though. While their selection of pots was large and I did buy 2 pots, I did not find exactly the style I was looking for, which was more modern and streamlined. Overall I was happy.

Horribly disappointed with the quality of the tree I Purchased yesterday. The employee said to put it in water within an hour of him cutting the stump and I put it in water within 30 minutes. 70% of the needles have fallen off since I brought it home. It’s a balsam fir. It’s supposed to hold its needles. I’ve had a tree for over a month and never had this many needles fall off. From the pictures you can see that halfway up the branch to the trunk is completely bare of needles. I will never buy a tree from English Gardens again this is horrible. Go to Lowe’s or Home Depot instead.

My boyfriend and I were followed, glared at, and shouted at by an older woman who works here. She even followed us up to the cash register and shouted at us while we were paying. I appreciate how the person behind the register dealt with the situation gracefully and professionally, but Im extremely disturbed that this even happened here.

I walked in and was told I had two minutes before closing... challenge accepted! I needed two birthday gifts and everyone over 18 is getting plants this year Lol and they were still so helpful. Dont forget, their gift cards make great gifts. Highly recommend. They didnt give me a free plant to say any of this lol.

Only giving 5 stars because the girlfriend LOVED EVERYTHING. Couldnt get out of the store in under what felt like hours. Beware if you have a plant lover this store is dangerous.

I love the Royal Oak store purely because of the awesome staff! Ive been twice in 3 weeks and its been great each time. The West Bloomfield store is 5 minutes from my house, but each of the 3 times over the past 3 years that Ive been, the staff has always been cold and unfriendly. Royal Oak is about 17-20 mins away and Ill gladly go wherever I feel valued, no matter the distance 😁😊

I thought my orig purchase was nice, however to get one bloom out of the geraniums in a 70$ pot is not ok. I purchased other pots including geraniums from Ray Weigands and they are stunning months later, continue to rebloom and cost less. Ill never purchase from over priced English Gardens again. Weigands has them beat in price and quality.

I bought enough vegetable plants here that I should be well fed without trips to the store during lockdown. Every single one of them, without exception, is infested with fungi, and non-viable. Half of them are dead, the others will be soon. This speaks to poor controls at the store. If you want to rely on plants you buy living until harvest, shop somewhere else.

Make sure you check EVERY leaf and the UNDERSIDE of each leaf. Wherever theyre sourcing their tropicals/indoor plants from seems to have very lackluster pest control standards. I bought a Monstera Adansonii and Golden Pothos from this location last March of 2020. The Adansonii was infested with mealybugs (my bad shouldve noticed, but I was a newbie and didnt know better so I learned the hard way) and the Pothos was infested with spider mites. I fought the long fight with both these plants to try and keep them alive however both officially now as of January 2021 have left me. They do have a 30 day (I believe) guarantee if a plant dies or youre not satisfied, Im clearly FAR past that date but if something happens for you in that time span make sure you bring it back and theyll help you get itsorted out!EDIT/UPDATE:1. I made a whoopsie--- these plants were not purchased in March but July. The whole year just blended together (yay COVID).2. I cant restate enough how polite/friendly the staff are. Im updating because the store manager reached out after this review (not my intent but very lovely to hear from someone) and actively worked with me over a couple days to try and talk out the pest issue. Like I mentioned above PLEASE PLEASE take them up on their return policy or voice your concerns (obviously in a reasonable way) with the staff/management. They genuinely seem to care and want you to have the best possible experience so if something goes wrong (within reason obv) say something and theyll work with you!!3. Still dont be foolish and naive like me. Check the plant before you purchase it, especially if youre new to house plants. And if you do see mealies/aphids/mites etc SAY SOMETHING to the staff. It helps them so they can treat/quarantine/observe.

Whenever I shop here the employees are always so friendly and helpful. I used to go to a different nursery in Rochester, but their plants aren’t very well cared for, the prices are higher and most of the employees are rude. The plants at this English Gardens location always seem well cared for and I feel that the prices are reasonable. When I have a question, there’s always a friendly staff member around to help me. It’s a long drive for me to come here, but I feel that it’s worth it.

This nursery is so lovely! I found some of the most beautiful ferns here for my front porch last year and they held up so well. I knew I would be back to purchase more beautiful plants and items from this nursery. Great variety of plants and beautiful flowers. The staff is always helpful and friendly.

Very unethical company - we went to get 2 big arborvitae #30 trees which they have a ton of but apparently put on sale to sell to their own internal landscaping company and won’t sell to us even though they have a sign on them and it’s in their inventory - told us sorry and next year maybe they get more - stay away

Although its a little pricey, Ive shopped here for years because of their selection and location. However, the helpfulness and friendliness of the staff here has been non-existent for the past couple of years. I was in there recently. browsing for about 20 minutes and not one employee approached me or acknowledged me. That is, except for a masked floral arranging counter clerk standing behind plexi-glass who called me out for not having my mask pulled up over my face. There was literally nobody within 15-20 feet of me and only a handful of other shoppers spread out through the entire store (which is partly outdoors). I complied, and then I heard a smarmy Thaaaaannnk yooooouuu. Yup, Ill be looking for other nurseries to shop at from now on, even if theyre out of my way.

General Manager of this location is bewilderingly rude and condescending. That aside, this place is amazing! Visited for the first time recently and was more than impressed with the gorgeous plants, Christmas trees, and other holiday decor. Despite the GM’s pathetic approach to customer service, I will be back to shop again. This time, I’ll just be sure to decline any of his offers to help.

Just got done trying to return a set of lights I purchased about two weeks ago. Paid $25.99 and they stopped working. Because I didn’t keep my receipt and I cut the tags off, the manager said he didn’t know if these were bought at this store. Moral of the story keep your receipt. And English Gardens will never see my smiling face again.

I spent over $1000 on a new tree, lights, wreaths, etc.One of the strands did not work so attempted to exchange it for the same ( but working) light set.What I thought would be a two minute —easy process, became a contentious debate with the customer service person who thought I brought back and old set and tried to fool the store. All I can say is horrible customer service.

Yes, its pricey but so far, I havent been able to find another garden store that has such an extensive collection of indoor houseplants, right down to 2in pots for miniature gardens. They carry interesting varieties of plants and pottery, and other home garden decor, that you cant find at big box stores. For that reason, I prefer going here when I know I need to source decor for an event.

It was very busy very long line out to outdoor garden area with only three tellers we lift.

Called yesterday, and it took being on hold three times for a total of 13 minutes for them to answer a question (about plant availability).Am currently on hold, and have been transferred three times. Each time Im transferred, Im put on hold until the call bounces back to their customer service line.I know this is a busy time of year, but either theyre incredibly short-staffed, or just dont put any priority on answering the phone. I dont have time to drive to this location to find out if they do or dont have one plant.Took me 19 minutes to get an answer

Awesome place to find the flowers or plants youre looking for. The staff is very knowledgable and friendly. They specialize in the unique and unusual along with the most sought after varieties of plants. I find different things everytime I walk in English Gardens.

I recently got married, and went to English Gardens of Royal Oak to have them create our floral arrangements. I was not looking to spend a lot of money on flowers, yet I wanted to have something beautiful and elegant and was nervous about what my budget would get me. I was skeptical that English Gardens would be able to provide the elegance I wanted without spending too much, because typically they are a little pricey...However they not only delivered within budget, but exceeded my expectations. It helps to not be super particular about having specific flowers that cost an arm and a leg. I worked with florist Brittany, who completely understood what I was going for. She listened, and let me be picky where I needed to be, was patient, and an absolute pleasure to work with. I bought my own vases, votives, and hanging votives online for the same or less $$ it would have cost to rent them from English Gardens to help with the budget. I also bought some gold Ting from Michaels with a coupon, to help fill the arrangement and give it some of our wedding colors. Brittany created a mock-up for me to give me an idea of what to expect, however when I got to the wedding, it was so much more beautiful than the mock-up. We received so many compliments, and our photos look absolutely amazing. Thank you Brittany and the English Gardens Royal Oak crew for creating an exceptional experience.
