Fern leaf did a fantastic job of coming through with a last minute birthday cake request. The whole house loved the German chocolate cake.
When traveling, my family loves to find the small, local bakeries. From Old Orchard Beach pier, it was sooo worth the 15 minutes drive and small business pricing. Some may complain, but the skill behind these pastries are worth every penny! My dad and I agree that we dont think weve had a better danish anywhere. Perfectly flaky, crispy but soft, amazing fruit and flavor--Im obsessed!I didnt try it, but my dad groaned from the deliciousness of the Cinnamon bun, so I take that as another compliment towards their pastry making. Oh and mom loves the blueberry muffin!Hopefully swinging back through tomorrow on our way out of town :)
Gorgeous treats! Everything was delicious, not too sweet, with emphasis on the flavor of the primary ingredient, e.g. the chocolate fudge brownie was deeply chocolatey and not buried in sugar, the cinnamon bun was spiced well with a little bit of a citrus aftertaste, and the dough was the right pull-apart consistency. The chocolate and vanilla cupcakes are moist and and hearty, and again not over-sweetened. The frosting was light and whipped, beautifully applied, and not overwhelming - the berry flavored frosting was especially nice, tart and sweet.Great customer service. My friend called in an order of a selection of goodies, and I was meant to pick them up in the morning - but I totally goofed and didnt get around to it until the shop called me a half hour before closing to let me know I had an order to collect. Tammy was very patient with my misunderstanding :)Wonderful small town family owned bakery.I really appreciate the COVID safety precautions as well - contactless curbside pick-up is still a very important safety measure, and I am thankful Fernleaf is making the effort to protect their staff and neighbors. Will definitely order special treats from these folks, and cant wait to enjoy a cup of coffee and a treat when they feel comfortable re-opening the cafe. Keep up the great work!
I was salivating over the menu before going but most of what I was hoping to get wasnt available. I guess Saturday is the day for croissants and pies have to be pre ordered.
Maybe my new favorite bakery! you can tell everything is handmade with love! and the cinnamon rolls make me drool 😋 the coffee is also delicious!
Really delicious. I had the pork hand pie and a raspberry Danish. Hubby had an everything bagel and a cinnamon bun. The hand pie was perfectly soft and crumbly. The one thought I had was if it came with a spiced Apple chutney to smear on it I think I would have dreamt about it for weeks. The Danish was the perfect pastry and just the right balance of tart and sweet, creamy and crispy. The bagel was full of flavor on its own and super light and airy inside. The smoked salmon cream cheese was gorgeous and the cinnamon bun also delicious. Everything was served on cute mismatched antique China plates and the decor was warm and cozy. The place is out of the way on a side street in what looks like a three story white house. Be sure to look and not miss it. Its well worth hunting for. We will definitely definitely go back and often.
Delicious sandwiches...worth the wait
Stuffed croissants. They have so so many things, but the stuffed croissants are spectacular. Beautiful, soft, flaky, full of flavor. The staff are always friendly and quick to offer service, with a good variety for being such a small place. They do have tables inside where you can dine in and enjoy your snacks with some coffee or depending the time of year, hot apple cider.
Owner was super friendly. Creame brulee was delicious ❤
They don’t answer their phone. I was out front. Their website doesn’t work properly on my phone to order. This place may or may not be good, but they don’t want business. One star.
As a Saco resident, I am so disappointed!!! We stopped by for the first time today after we looked for a local bakery. Understandably, because of COVID, they have new restrictions in the way they do business. Their biggest restriction is the fact that one is not allowed to come in even when all other stores are already open to the public, this happened on 10/1/2020. Therefore, we called the number while parked outside to ask if we could learn about their products and the lady who answered the phone was so rude and cold. Her customer service skills were so poor! She literally terminated the call abruptly after yelling at me you need to go online to learn about our cakes!. Never will I ever go back there.
I dont usually mind spending $10 for a cup of coffee and artisan cookies. So, when I pointed at the two, freshly baked, plump cookies in the case, I thought that those cookies would end up in my to go bag.I headed out to my appointment and upon opening the to go bag, I discovered two cookies in plastic wrap. Unfortunately, each cookie was flat, hard, and STALE. (Kinda felt like I had experienced a Bait & Switch.)The cookies were not edible.I will not return to this bakery.
Was not happy with a one layer, 6 inch round carrot cake for $23.00. Cake was dry, no raisins or nuts. Frosting tasted more like butter than cream cheese. I have ordered pies and cakes for holidays which have been very good. Very disappointed!
We have ordered several types of cakes and desserts for special occasions over the years and have always been blown away by how delicious everything is. The hand pies, quiche, pastries, cookies, and breakfast sandwiches are always incredible. Love the owners; Irene is wonderful!
This place is so great! We dont come often because it seems were always a diet, but when we want to cheat, we know where to go! Not just good for desserts, we each had their BLT, which was their Wednesday lunch special, and it was soooo good. The olive oil herb bread its served on was phenomenal! So good, we ordered a third one to split! Plus dessert! Cute little dining area (and tables out in the back yard) if you want to hang out for a bit. Love Fernleaf!
Food is great. On-line ordering is a little glitchy.
Wonderful local bakery tucked away from Main St. Saco. Their cakes and pastries are exquisite. Dont miss their fine sandwiches made on their herbed bagels. This is a lovely spot all year round.
Children love the muffins and the coffee is fast, hot and great both times! Want to try breakfast soon! Smells amazing when i go in!
Have been there a handful of times and excellent each time. Wonderful, reliable and squeaky clean.
Plan on going soon... looks great.....
The breakfast quiches are like eating a cloud - so fluffy and tasty! The variety of morning pastries makes it hard to choose, so its best to get a couple. The Fernleaf creates some of the best pastries youll find. We were visiting Camp Ellis for just a few days, most of them were spent picking up breakfast provisions at Fernleaf! Yum!!!
Bought a birthday cake and muffins both were delicious. Bakery is very small but the do have room to eat in. They have light lunch items
My sister and I were taking a weekend trip to meet up with family and searched for coffee places near us. A few came up in the search but we randomly picked Fernleaf.I am so glad that we did! Service was great, prices were reasonable, coffee and food were delicious. We must have arrived at a good time because we were the only ones there and all of a sudden it got busy, meaning its a great place. We parked across the street and walked over. You can either sit inside or out, depending on weather. If I am ever back in the area I am definitely visiting again!
Always have fresh pastries in the morning. They know how to make cappuccinos without burning the milk. The younger people working here are very friendly and give off a warming atmosphere, whereas, the older people arent very personable. I also like that they do the punch card system on coffee. Parking is very easy to find around the business.Improvement: most bakeries give a discount on the coffee if you bring in your own thermos. I wish this place would do the same.
Consistently delicious every time! I love the pies, croissants, and lemon bars! She does an amazing job. Great cappuccinos too!
What a joy to discover this lovely hide-a-way Bakery and coffee spot!!Absolutely charming and so many delicious treats to choose from.I asked for a gluten free sweet....and was awed with several options.(cant say they were low in calories... BUT WORTH IT!)
Irene is a fabulous baker! I had the strawberry rhubarb turnover and it was fantastic. You gotta go there!
This is a great place. We stumbled on it while traveling in a rainstorm and its just the kind of cozy, welcoming place you want to discover in a rainstorm. And any other time, actually. If you live in the area, I urge you to support this place. This is the kind of small business every town needs.
The Italian Rum cake was perfect!
Amazing. My wife ordered me a tiramisu cake for my birthday and it was so good. I love tiramisu and this was one of the best if not best I have ever had. She liked it so much we then ordered a yule log cake for our Christmas gathering and it was a big hit. She already knows what she wants for her birthday 8 months from now.
Best blueberry danish I ever had. My husband enjoyed a really good breakfast sandwich. This was our first visit to this cute coffee shop, but well be going back.
Biggest apple fritters and cinnamon buns ive ever seen. Simply delicious. And inexpensive too.
Two coffeesOne raspberry almond croissant. One avacado and tomato toast on homemade oatmeal bread.Very very delicious and made Fresh. Two thumbs up !!👍👍
Bestest bakery for miles! Irene is gifted, friendly. Great spot to meet for coffee. Indoor and outdoor seating.GO! You will be in love, for life!
Love their croissants and everything else Ive tried. Owners are almost always there and wonderful people
Great little local coffee house. Their desserts are incredible.
Good ice coffee. The pork hand pie and cinnamon sugar croissant were good. The ambiance was bit odd.
Wonderful pastries, cakes and pies. Great coffee and outstanding service.
Ordered the larger of two keylime cheesecakes shown in the showcase. Paid up front for a Birthday. Paid for larger one. Husband picked it up. It was the smaller one. Very disappointed. Very loose filling. More like a pudding. Could not cut a clean slice. Not a cheesecake. Very disappointed.
Cute place to have tea with friends. Irenes baking is AMAZING. The croissants, quiche, cinnamon rolls, and cakes are all phenomenal.
Actually has really nice coffee and the pastries look incredible. I havent eaten any pastries myself because Im a chubby boy as it is and I dont need any more sugar in my diet. But I used to work in a bakery and I can tell good pastries when I see them. The people there have always been really nice too. The one thing I find disconcerting about the place is that there is no music playing of any kind. It feels like Im sipping coffee in somebodys house, and it can get uncomfortable. But still, its a nice place to get work done.
Super quaint bakery delicious sandwich I got to go and the sweets looked amazing !
Very nice atmosphere. Food is great and people are super friendly. My daughter and I loved it.
Their chocolate fudge cookies are probably the best cookies Ive ever had. Likewise with their double chocolate brownies. Muffins, cakes and other pastries are great as well.
Great service and delicious flour-less peanut butter chocolate chip cookies!
Awesome coffee, friendly service and delicious baked goods
Ordered a birthday cake. Wow cannot believe how good this was. You should not miss this place. We had a house full of gourmet chiefs that couldnt believe how good it was.
Their burgers and sandwiches are excellent. Its small, but thats part of the charm!
Fernleaf bakery in Saco, Maine, really hit a home run in my book. I was looking for a boston cream pie for a present for my fathers birthday. He, has a love for a good boston cream pie. But, they seem to be difficult to find up here. All I can say is that when I walked into Fernleaf bakery, it was a smaller bakery with a few tables for sitting, in the glass cases there were things for dessert, and things for lunch and snacks. The gentleman who helped me was very pleasant and asked if I would like to have anything written on the pie. The prices are a little on the steep side. But, what you end up with is something wonderfully tasty and my father was very pleased and delighted. I will be going back, sooner rather than later.
Literally everything is good. So good that I get at least one petit four to hold me over!
Great spot in Saco for espresso drinks and freshly baked specialty items.
Cute place. Quiche was delicious. Coffee was overpriced and not good. Nothing cheap here! Baked goods looked pretty though.
Fernleaf stands out as the more sophisticated bakery in the area. Its selection is smaller, but what they do is very high quality. There are a couple of donut shops over the bridge in Biddeford if what youre looking for is a big, super sweet donut; but if youre after a gourmet panini or a heavenly quiche, maybe a Russian teacake for dessert, you want Fernleaf. Prices are steeper than other places locally, but not unreasonable given the quality of the food. This morning my wife had breakfast there with coffee, and I think the total was less than $16, including a dollar in the tip jar.
BEST bakery in 3 towns Bidd Saco and OOB
Service was excellent. Coffee and cinnamon croissant was great. Definitely worth a stop.
No one does Pastries and desserts better in the area. Oreillys certainly has more options in the Donut category but the Fernleaf is my go to for Cake, Pie, danishes, Lemon bars, etc. Good coffee all supplied by Carpe Diem coffee. A recent reshuffle of the space has left it looking much more inviting and cozy. We are lucky to have both the Fernleaf and CIA in such close proximity. Both are great coffee houses with different focuses. The Lunch options and quiches are also not to be missed at the Fernleaf! Locally sourced jams, jellies, and bulk coffee from Carpe Diem roastery as well. Give it a try... you will not regret taking the time to walk a whole block from Main street!
Excellent service and excellent and delicious baked goods.
Their menu board is hard to read but they make a good panini. Ive gone in twice not knowing quite what I wanted and its hard to make a decision in the small space if youre not familiar with the options. I got a latte here once and it was not good.
Its a little cramped inside but that makes it more cozy, the baked goods are amazing. Highly recommend!
Delicious, quality baked goods, the olive oil bread is amazing, the coffe is tasty, and my kids love it too :)
Yummy yummy yummy, very tiny place and hard to find if you are not a local, but worth the find.
Ive never had anything from here that wasnt delicious.
Good coffee and great sugar creations, good cozy spot for a small bite to eat
So good! The guy that served us was so nice and helpful!
Just went in for the first time apple turnovers are amazing!
Fernleaf the hidden gem of Saco...and now South Portland. ;) breakfast panini (served all day) on herb oiled bread is...da bomdigity. PLADOW!
Great homemade sandwiches and pastries. Wonderful relaxed atmosphere.
I come here every time I visit my family. Take really good for and the spinach and feta croissants are to die for.
Fantastic brownies, but expensive compared to other bakeries.
Lovely place for a nice espresso. The cookies are great
The danishes are fabulous!
Fresh, quality ingredients in everything, plus bread pudding to die for!!
Good coffee, very delicious food.
Very nice local bakery.
Pastries were great.
Great little bakery.
