This store is amazing. If you are interested in bulk items at fantastic prices and saving the environment, then this is the store for you. Bring your own containers (or buy them there!) and fill up on rice, beans, sugar, flour, gluten-free flour, tea, honey, spices, household cleaning solutions, laundry detergent, body care products, and more. You pay by the weight, so grab as much as you need. This is such a cool idea and I fully support this. Spread the word and help them grow!

This is the greatest market in all of Salt Lake City. Bring your own bag. Buy the best of products at the cheapest prices. You’re gonna love it. There’s something bad coming in and grabbing it by yourself and taking it without the single use packaging. What a dream. What a delight. Jamaica is the truth. Come by sometime and get some stuff.

Theyre in a new location near the Lowes, Walmart, and Target on 300 west. Its on the east side, look carefully, you might miss it! The new store front is discrete, situated among many others. It would be awesome if they painted the overhead door to be a large visible sign. At this new location parking is on-street only, some parking is available in the rear on weekends. Its a very busy traffic area, I prefer to park a block away, off the road, and walk in.I love using my own containers! Jamaica is so kind and helpful, as are her employees. They all wear masks and provide an understandable and safe process for all their bulk foods. Dont be afraid to talk with them, some products cant be handled by the public so they need to fill your container in the back. Everything is beautifully tidy and utterly spotless every time Ive been in. What a comfort that this was a top priority for them even pre-covid.The recycling facilities and programs in this state are severely lacking in breadth and efficacy, recycling overall being too late in the game for the drastic change we need. Jamaicas concept is life saving. This place is imperative and i hope her stock continues to grow. Im elated she has white vinegar now! I would love it if they could get distilled water. You can download their current product list on the website.

Absolutely love having Hello Bulk within walking distance of home. We visit about once a week for local Hugo coffee, oatmeal, maple syrup, local eggs, flour, sugar, and a variety of beans, lentils, fresh almond butter, and grains. They also stock limited organic produce, some regular and vegan dairy options, and locally baked treats for people and pets. The products are always fresh and high quality, and the staff are friendly, helpful, and fun to talk to. When it comes to food, I want to choose local, organic, and waste free whenever possible..Hello Bulk makes all three of those possible for me.

We starting going here during the pandemic so we havent been able to explore the store much, but the staff are great in keeping everything clean and helping us to select products. We especially love picking up our cleaning supplies here, as they are primarily sold in a concentrate, meaning we can buy a long lasting supply that takes up hardly any room in our closet. We especially appreciate how multipurpose the supplies are (we can use one product for dish soap, hand soap and laundry detergent)! We look forward to buying more staples from this store!!

I’m so so grateful for this store! You can tell that the owner and staff have really worked hard to put together a store dedicated to the conscientious and alternative options required to start making a difference. The store offers so much, including local options which is really important. They also update the product list daily or close to daily so you know exactly what they have on hand. I read the negative reviews (there are very, very few) and they were written by people who seemed to have expected an experience by coming to this store. The store is as large as it needs to be. It’s odd that people expect a certain atmosphere while grocery shopping. What’s important is that the owner worked really hard and continues to do so in order to help better our world by providing sustainable alternatives that help reduce the incredible amount of waste we produce. If you follow the Instagram page you can kind of get an idea for how much work goes into a project like this and it’s highly respectable. The staff have been really friendly and helpful every time I’ve visited and is always spotless 👌🏼 In addition, they’re also staying open during the quarantine and filling your orders for you! A++++Anyways, check the place out! It’s so worth it.

I love the concept of this store! Its pricey for a college student like myself but when Im in my career and making decent money Ill be more than happy to support a sustainable store like this one :).9/4/21 Edit - on my journey to do right by our planet, Ive started taking how I buy products often wrapped in environmentally harmful packaging very seriously. I came back to Hello!Bulk because I wanted to see if I was wrong about it being pricey compared to the plastic-wrapped items I buy elsewhere...and I was WRONG (for the most part). When I compared the pricing of what I buy ounce/lb per price, it became clear that Hello!Bulk was far cheaper than what I was buying at stores like Trader Joes, Smiths, and Costco - and the quality you get at Hello!Bulk surpasses all those stores IMO. Now, Im still human and I still love Trader Joes, but now instead of buying 90% of my groceries from them (and other stores) and 10% at Hello!Bulk Ill be buying closer to 70% of my grocerys from Hello!Bulk and 30% from other stores. Thank you Hello!Bulk for making efforts to practice sustainability easy and affordable :).

Also a lot of liquid bulk, like tamari, soy sauce, laundry and dish soap, maple syrup, honey, agave, and more. Lots of spices and teas, flours, powders, etc.In addition they have a great variety of locally made products, both refrigerated (like salsa, yogurt, vegan custard, and more) and body care items like bar soap.Bring your own containers and bags and tare them, or purchase glass containers or use their paper bags for dry items. For the best experience at this gem of a store, check out their website and Instagram for updates and how-tos. The tours they post there are so helpful, and the daily updates of the rare out-of-stock items are so helpful during the pandemic. Then, label your clean containers with what youd like and how much of it. Since theyre filling for us during COVID to keep everyone safe, you can drop your containers off and come back, or wait if theyre not backed up. I usually take a walk in the neighborhood for 20-30 minutes, if needed for my big orders - theyll text you when its ready.

I have known about HelloBulk since they first opened but havent been in yet because I thought it would be more expensive. Over the last year I have been making a concerted effort to use less plastic. I needed several staple pantry and cleaning items that are usually in plastic packages, so I decided to try it out today. When I got home I did a little shopping around to compare prices...mind you I had to look at 4 different stores to find the best prices. When it was all said and done a few things were a little bit more expensive than other places, but most were less expensive. If I had gone and found those items at other stores if would have cost me $43.16 and I would have gone to 4 stores to get the best price. At HelloBulk my total was $40.16.So not only is it less expensive, no plastic waste, less gas and time running around but I also get to support a local store that sources locally and ethically. A win for everyone!

I love love the concept of this store! I think more places need to do this! However, Im giving it 4 stars instead of 5 because its expensive. I was thinking it would be cheaper considering Im not paying for the packaging. You can generally find environmentally conscious alternatives at other places for cheaper than here.I also think they can be more creative with their funnels. Right now they only have 2 funnel options. You have to use a funnel to move your product from their container to yours, unfortunately with only the two funnel options, its not always easy to get their product into whatever container you have. Get more funnel sizes please! That being said, I would like to go back and try a few more of their options.

Ethical and environmentally conscious, this is a great sustainable little shop! You gotta check out the loose tea selection. Some items like laundry detergent are a little more expensive than just buying from the big box store in another container, but the whole idea of no waste makes it worth it.That’s the hardest part of true sustainability because people want a balance of Ethical, Environment, AND Economy. Everyone with their low reviews want it all, but this store that I support is a starting step in the best direction.

We love, love, love this store and the bulk buying concept. Everyone is always very helpful and friendly. I just love the thought of the plastic that were NOT using every time we come here. However, weve been trying to utilize this store for a few essentials in our household but its been very difficult to rely on them because of how often certain essentials are out of stock. If we travel to the store to restock on four items, for example, its very likely that they will be out of 1-3 of those things. Were patient and we love what theyre doing here so we make due but I really wish they would be a little more proactive with inventory. It seems like they dont order more until the bin is empty. I dont own a business, nor do I claim to know how to manage this type of business. I just know that I would want to know what my customers are struggling with, which is why Im mentioning it at all. So please take my criticism with love. Im sure there are certain limitations in this market that Im not taking into account but we would really love to see more consistency with the inventory.Nevertheless, we still love the store and are still regular customers. Join the fight against single-use plastic!Response: Thank you for the thoughtful response! Our biggest issue items for sure are normally the dishwasher pods, laundry detergent liquid, and olive oil. We happened to need soy sauce one day so we grabbed an empty bottle and planned to get some while we were there but that was sold out also. Weve actually come to consistently expect the dishwasher pods to be out of stock to the extent that we will plan to buy them weeks ahead of time because it usually takes 2-3 trips before we find them in stock. We can handle the inconvenience, we just hate having to buy another plastic container at a grocery store when were in a pinch. Were thrilled that your store exists and thrilled that youre doing so well. Hopefully communications like this will help in the long run.

I was really disappointed by this place because I really wanted to love it. I buy in bulk and live package free as much as I possibly can. One of the selling factors for me to go to this place is it is one of the few local stores where you can use your own container (vs. using reusable bags and transfer to your container when you get home). Unfortunately, a lot of the items that they have listed on their website are not available in the store. So, I was only able to purchase a few items on my list (which was inconvenient because it is a drive to get here from my place). With that said, what disappointed me most was how EXPENSIVE this place is for items purchased in bulk. I spent almost 3x as much for only a handful of items than I pay for many more items at other local stores that sell bulk. I might still go here from time to time but based on location and price it will not be very often. :(

What is really exciting about Hello Bulk and other non-waste businesses is that these businesses are part of movement. I really believe that there is a direct correlation between sustainability and for example the #metoo movement. These movements are reactions to issues that citizens have grown tired of and are looking for change. What makes me most excited about these movements is that I feel like they are incubators for new communities of support. With the concept of a community of support in mind - I was heartbroken by my experience with Hello Bulk. I really wanted to love this new shop and I hoped that this new business would be a center of support but unfortunately, we had a horrible customer service experience and I will not be returning. Here is what happened - I went with two of my girlfriends and one of their babies. My friend had to change the baby’s diaper in car before entering Hello Bulk. She put the used diaper in a doggy poop bag. There was no garbage cans outside the store and unbeknownst to me when we entered Hello Bulk, my friend asked if there was a trash can so she could throw the diaper away -- the store clerk refused to throw the diaper away. My dear friend, quietly just put the diaper outside the store until we were finished shopping. The store clerks refusal to throw the diaper away, made my friend feel judged and extremely uncomfortable. She didn’t buy anything, and I should have known something was up when she didn’t purchase any items because we were all excited to start incorporating no-waste practices in our lives. She didnt tell us this happened until after we purchased our bulk items but I would not have bought anything from this shop if I had known they made my friend feel less about herself. We totally understand that we were shopping at a no-waste shop. We get the irony in asking them to throw a diaper in the trash but no-one should feel judged. I think this shop needs to reevaluate their expectations and mission. This shop should support motherhood and the struggles most moms face.
