Visited the restaurant last night for the first time. Food was excellent. However the service was poor. The host/waitress did not seem to know what she was doing. They were out of straws and to go cups as well. When the food arrived, we had to remind the waitress to give us utensils. The environment is super nice and relaxing. Just need better staff.
Service was excellent and the food was even better. I was pleasantly surprised by this Southtown gem. The ambiance is subtle yet sophisticated, it makes for a great intimate dinner or special date place. The meatballs are absolutely delicious nice combination of meats in them, cooked to perfection. Caprese salad was on point with good cuts of fresh mozzarella and healthy tomato. Overall I highly recommend this spot.
This is a nice spot. The pizza was very good. The prices are great. Inside is very nice. Ok the best part of this restaurant besides the food is its BYOB. Yes bring an ice chest or a bottle of wine. I was shocked and impressed. I unfortunately came empty handed but Ill be prepared next time. We had the works pizza. The ingredients were delicious. The crust was nice too. Its busy and has a weird lunch schedule. So check online before you show up to make sure its open. Also its right next to South town 101 if you feel like a drink after you eat
This is definitely a hidden gem! The staff was so nice and welcoming. Food was awesome! Cute restaurant you gotta check out.
Great spot in Southtown. Solid pasta and good portion sizes. The calamari appetizer is the highlight of the menu. Best Ive ever had!
The place was quite nice. It was quaint, cozy, and the decor was on par. The service was spectacular. I was on a business trip and I was fasting. So, I was grilling the waiter on what might contain alcohol or pork. Although he was young, he really knew his stuff. He was very polite, and very on top of it all. As you can imagine after fasting near 15 hours, I was chugging down my drink one after the other: and he was keeping up.Now lets talk about the food ...When you sit down, you get served some bread and butter. Maybe its the fasting guy in me, but this bread was amazing. So much so, I ordered another plate (free) later with my meal. As an appetizer, I got me a regular card and salad with a vinaigrette dressing. It was really good, and anything but ordinary. The dressing was just perfect. I can only assume that they make it in house as well.It is rare for me to find a place that offers lasagna without pork. This place had it. Their pizzas looked amazing. However, I felt like I could have pizza pretty much anywhere. And while I dont think this would be the same Pizza by most measures, it was a toss-up between that lasagna and the chef special. As you can see from the pictures, I went with a special. No regrets whatsoever. It was amazing. A seafood medley with a spicy marinara all made from scratch in house. Hats off to the chef. It was exquisite.I highly recommend this place. I hope you enjoy it too.
Friendly, attentive service and delicious pizza. Ownership recently changed so it was BYOB when we were there. I wish I had known. They serve bread brushed with a little melted butter and garlic along with an additional side of beautifully whipped butter. It was addicting. We started out with cesar salads and evey looked really fresh, but we didnt really care for the dressing. I believe I was tasting citrus which I love but not in cesar salad dressing or at least not over powering. We had the works pizza and both the wifey and I really liked it. Overall it was a great experience and we would definitely eat here again.
Excellent pizza and wine. Gluten free options... beautiful rustic building, rooms and patio
We absolutely love this little Southtown gem! We recently moved to San Antonio and were looking for a restaurant we could call ours -- you know, the kind of place thats your dine out home away from home. We have definitely found it in Southtown Pizzeria. The food is fresh and delicious. The menu offers great variety. And the service is delightful. These pics were from a special occasion, so we went all in with the specials (amazing!!). But you could totally go and split a pasta and a salad and have a cozy little dinner for two. From a Covid standpoint, they have lovely outdoor seating under a wood arbor. Inside tables are nicely spread out. And take home is just as good as when served there.
What a lovely restaurant, exactly the type of place I would imagine I could duck inside if I were getting out of the rain in Italy. The service is Texan-friendly, the ambiance has me wondering through my imagination, thinking of a lover whose hand I would like to hold. What would Wayne order if we were here together? I think he would have settled on the lasagne while I chose the Fettuccini Primavera. It had a perfect al dente lightly combined with olive oil, carrots, two types of mushrooms, broccoli, and summer squash. The yellow squash reminded Wayne of the yellow top I was wearing when we met, so he told that story while wiping red sauce from his lips.I will have to update this review after I try the tiramisu which we ordered to go, since the rain let up and Wayne is wanting to kiss the salt from my lips.Alas, I dined alone and not alone.Thank you for the wonderful hospitality, great dinner, and a dream.
Amazing service! Beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. Exquisite dishes and not to mention the delish pizza! Perfect spot for a cute date night in South Town San Antonio.
Wow! Im in San Antonio on business, and so grateful to have my first meal here. Top notch food and service. I felt very comfortable as a single woman dining here. Thank you for a wonderful experience, Southtown Pizzaria staff!
We walked in and had to wave them down in the kitchen because no one was at the front . We could only order pizza because the cook didnt come to work . The soda machine was also broken so we had to drink can soda . We were out of drink the time our food came, we were very thirsty . The pizza itself was good; nice thin, crisp crust . The bread that came out before was phenomenal . Im sure this restaurant is normally great, we just went on a bad day. I would love to go back to try their full menu. Beautiful restaurant, very romantic for date night . Just call first to make sure they are offering a full menu.
The pepperoni and sausage pizza was flavorful and the crust soft but not floppy. Nice rustic ambience. Very friendly service. Was my first time there but wont be my last.
Cozy place with delicious food options. Their Southtown pizza is surprisingly good - even if the ingredients (jalepeno and pepperoni) are a bit of an unusual combination. Be aware that Southtown Pizzaria doesnt have a liquor license, so bring your own beer or wine if youd like that with dinner.
Amazing romantic atmosphere. The wine and food was full of flavor and portion size was more than enough . You can dine inside or outside with a dim lighting. The service was great as well, the manager Anthony made sure everything was to our liking. Will definitely be making our reservation for Valentine’s Day . Five star dinning
Pizza was both thin and pleasingly soft (reheats well too). Fried calamari had a good balance of breading and meat. Girlfriend really enjoyed her pasta. Complimentary bread was seasoned extremely well. Atmosphere was both appealing and clean. Service was very professional and didnt feel rushed at all which was greatly appreciated.
Not nearly the same place. Average at best and overpriced for the quality. Disorganized staff.
From the decor to the food & service, everything is spot on.Its like eating in a small Italian village in the Alps. Great atmosphere, everyone is smiling... I do recommand Esteban as he is extra attentive to the customers needs. The Pizzas are perfect. The dough is light and not elastic. The ingredients are amazing. Cheeses are aged and tasty, everything is 100% fresh and you can taste it. My kid cant stop eating their pastas. One of our favorite restaurant in the city.
This was place was to die for!! Come early because it does get busy and for a good reason. It’s a nice quaint spot, but honestly once I stepped in it felt so comfy. The manager/owner greeted us immediately was very friendly and looked very crisp ( in a good ) he walked us to our table and the area looked very clean and simple. The waitress was really sweet and was very quick to get our drink order and allowed us time to take our order. She brought out bread and butter. We ordered pizza’s and I regretted it ordering the appetizer with the fresh cold cuts and cheese because the table next to us could not stop ranting and raving over it. The menu does give you a clear warning to give time for the food to be prepped because it is all hand made but the food was well worth the wait! We got thin crust and hand tossed dough, I’m a thin crust lover all the way, but even my boyfriend ( who is a hand tossed lover all the way) truly enjoyed the thin crust. The pizza wasn’t extremely salty or over saucy. It had a great flavor. The other huge plus for me is that the music in the restaurant wasn’t over bearing. Like always come enjoy this place, enjoy the food and the staff. It’ll be worth it!! If I could give more stars I would!
I’m a Brooklyn NY girl, part Italian, and raised in an Italian neighborhood. I’m here in San Antonio during a small trip and was craving some eggplant parm. I all I popped by this place because I prefer my eggplant thinly sliced in eggplant parm and I saw that Southtown Pizzaría does it just like that! Atmosphere/environment is super nice here. They have a cute outdoor seating area. Everyone working there was super friendly! The food: eggplant was indeed thinly sliced (yay!), it tasted fresh, it was breaded (they say lightly but I still think it was too much), and cheese was spread throughout each layer. The bone I have to pick is with the sauce... Something was either missing or slightly off but I can’t really seem to put my finger on it. It almost tasted like a sweeter version of a tomato basil soup, but it wasn’t as thin as soup of course. Don’t get me wrong, it was still tasty. I must mention that whenever I taste Italian sauce I always think of my grandmas homemade sauce... andddd it’s not really fair to do that since nothing will ever compare to it. The garlic pasta really helped out the dish though. Eating it with bites of the eggplant was pretty good. I wanted to give 3.5 stars but it won’t let me. 🤷🏻♀️Summary: pretty good! Satisfied the craving but not amazing nor the best I ever had.
We have visited several times and enjoyed it mostly, but the last visit was very disappointing. Rather than outline the many details, I will simply suggest to the owner - if the customer gently voices a dissatisfaction, an offer to make it right goes a long way. I want this place to succeed, as I love Italian food (I cook it in such a way that would make a grown man cry with joy) but I dine out for the entire experience. The decor and ambience are charming. If you have your team inspect every culinary creation before it is presented to patrons and ensure exemplary service throughout, you will in fact, succeed.
My first experience with Southtown Pizzeria was excellent. Service was wonderful and food was great. However when visiting last night at 9:28, I was greeted with people that were not so friendly or welcoming. The hostess was about to seat us when someone from behind the register said loudly to the hostess We Are Closed. I looked at my watch and asked the person what time do you close and he replied....NOW. Without even looking up at myself or my guest. You could hear a pin drop. It was as if there were no managers on duty and they wanted to close shop early, even when they officially closed at 10pm. Regardless of time, the customer service in that situation was horrible and I wont be raving or recommending it to anyone else in the future.
Adorable hole in the wall Italian restaurant, professionally run by a kind intelligent caring owner! Amazing team were on top of their game! Remember this is not a fast food restaurant this is a place where your food will be made to order, just how you would have a home cooked meal. Can’t wait to come again!
Visited during New Years wknd. We were excited to visit because of the reviews we read. Unfortunately, the experience was a bit sour. First let me say the food was indeed delicious. I had the meat lasagna, my wife had the eggplant parmigiana, we shared a ceasar salad, and our son had a medium pep pizza. Every dish was delicious and tasted the most homemade of anything we’ve had lately from a restaurant. However, the bad experience was due to having waited for nearly an hour for my wife’s dish. My son and I received our dishes within 15 minutes of ordering, so after eating about half my dish, waited till my wife received hers. This meant I had to eat the rest of my lasagna cold. The place was already cold because it didn’t seem like any heating was being used, so finishing my dish was not very enjoyable. We were given a small discount and a free desert for the inconvenience of waiting. We did appreciate the effort to set our bad experience right.Because of the great food, we’ll definitely give this place another opportunity. If you’re looking for great homemade tasting Italian, this is definitely a place to try out 🙂In closing, the decor is rustic, and the byob policy is a plus.If our next visit doesn’t include such a long wait for our food, then I’ll definitely update my rating.Adding this as a very much overdue update. No sooner had I posted my review, and the manager was at our table apologizing himself, for our long wait. He offered us desert on the house and comped our meal. Very generous and always a big plus when a business actually is vested enough in their business that they take the time to read, respond, and in our case, immediately set out to rectify a bad experience. We’ve been back a couple of times, for dine in, as well as pick up. No lengthy wait, and food was delicious 🤤
Sunday August 8, 7:45 pmWe waited and waited and yes, we waited even more. Needless to say after being told our medium pizza and salad would be 30 minutes, after one hour and 15 minutes we told the very nice young woman at the register, Sorry, but wed like a refund if its not about to come out. She didnt bat an eye, smiled and told us there is nothing to be sorry for and refunded our money. A waiter walking by said, it happens all the time, they always get back-logged. Upon leaving, we were offered to take the salad that had been sitting on the counter for the last 45 minutes as a parting gift, free of charge. She smiled and said, Hope yall come back and try the pizza!
The service is great by the staff the food on the other hand could be better. I ordered the pizza and chicken Alfredo tasted decent but I can tell they are a little lazy since the slice cheese i notice in their was not melted and still kinda hard pizza was good but tasted as good as a Peter piper pizza which tells me they are not putting enough effort into it.
I dont like their food at all. The pizza tasted like cardboard. They were stingy with the ingredients. I ate Marsala a previous time. It was very spicy. And the wait staff is terrible. There really isnt anything to redeem this restaurant.
Quick service, delicious food, fantastic staff. Beautiful building.
Super friendly staff. Pizza is delicious. Staff has recommended the pasta so gonna try that next time!
Busy for a Friday night. Service was really accommodating. Although it was excellent- what Im thinking was the manager came by and asked how everything was.. We said wonderful can we get some more bread and butter.. He said, yes, walked to kitchen and it never happened until we asked for the third person for the third time. We finally got it- they were kind enough to send us home with some. The dish we ordered is not on menu and is by special request. Beef shank and risotto! Incredible!!! $33.00 alone for this dish. Big enough for two to share. Definitely coming back to try other dishes. Romantic and very cozy. Salad was excellent. The glass of wine I ordered was $7.00 is the least expensive on the menu. They did mention they are getting new menus that will have all their options on it. A must try place.
I was in town with my family and had dinner here with our family. This place is amazing, a beautiful restaurant for a family gathering or a romantic dinner. Food was amazing we tried all kinds of different appetizers & dishes. The service was also great. 100% recommended.
Had the spaghetti bolognese and it was phenomenal; excellent pasta and sauce. Bread was served with oil and was delicious, as well.
Delicious chicken marsala! Place smells amazing when you walk in the door.
Very good food. Service was great.
Great date night! Loved the pizza, the ambiance, the gnocchi appatizer(the mushrooms in it were so meaty!), the wine, the excellent waitress, and even the price. Just didnt care for the limited parking but well deal with it! We cant wait to go back and try different dishes. And they do GLUTEN FREE pasta and pizza
Arrived here about 7:30 and didnt get seated until about 8. The place was not as crowded as it looked outside and it was just as hot inside as it was outside. After we were seated the waiter walked up and gave us a large selection of items that werent on the menu. We wait AN HOUR for our food. Like I said, barely anyone inside. Now we were provided with bread, which turned into rocks after 10-15 minutes on the table. The pizza was good. It had a bold flavor and came out hot. The waiter kept up with our drinks.I would not recommend unless you have time to kill or are in a rush.
Loved it! Great atmosphere. I walked in and was immediately excited about how dark the place was. Very Romantic! Pizza and salad was amazing! Will be coming back very soon.
Best meal I have ever had !! Estevan is the guy to see . Made my date and me feel like royalty !! The decor is straight out of Italy and the artwork is beautiful. The wine is the best I have ever tasted . Truly a remarkable experience and very affordable. Homemade tiramisu to end it all . Dont be fooled by the name of the restaurant, it is so much more than pizza !! Ask for estevan !!!
They have great customer service and wait time. The theme gives off a feeling of comfort, and the food is great with amazing proportions.
Excellent food and service! Will definitely come again!
The antipasto board, the Orecchiette e Pancetta, and the pizza here were amazing! They are located on a very sharp corner though, so be careful taking the turn. We ended up blowing a tire but one of the staff was very kind and came out to help change it! I wish I could give even more stars.
Great cozy pizza place i would say the best downtown, with a subtle upscale setting & nice atmosphere! I would recommend for a nice lunch or they have an excellent dinner!
First time dining here. Excellent atmosphere, service was great....the best part the food!! We will visit again when we are back in San Antonio.
Went yesterday with my husband and daughter. Based on the reviews we wanted to try the pizza. we wanted to order to go. But they made us wait just to place an order. While they were sitting down the other customers who had arrived after us. They didnt offer us a menu!! Like they did to the other customers. We walked out. Never going back there.. Dont judge its book by its cover. We were working on our house and decided to stop by to place an order to go... Really disappointed in the service!!!
Stumbled onto this hidden little diamond in the rough.. first time eating here and really enjoyed the food and great service. A must do in the King William area.
First time here! The waitress was wonderful, food was delicious and atmosphere was cozy. Thank you Harley for your service and positive attitude. ❣️✨
EXECELENT COZY FAMILY PLACE WIT EXCELLENT WAIT STAFF! CELEBRATED MY DAUGHTERS BDAY THERE!🎉🙏
What a great little spot. Decided to try it when we saw it while driving around. Crust is reminiscent of New York style pizza. We also had Caesar salads and they had a homemade Caesar dressing. It was fantastic! The service was super and even the manager stopped in to see how are experience was. We havent had that in quite a while. We will definitely be back to try other menu items but the pizza is not to be missed.
Service was great! Salad was amazing, but the pizza was lacking a little bit.
The food was delicious and decently priced (I highly recommend the Fettuccine Alfredo), the service was exceptional, the variety of the menu was vast, and the portion sizes are very large. I will definitely be back!!
Friendly service and delicious food. Fantastic house made Caesar dressing for the salad and delicious fresh pizza. I would go back for sure.
Really good and tasty food. Recommend the meat lasagna and meat lover pizza!!.
What a great find! The atmosphere at the restaurant is fantastic and there food is delicious. The lunch menu is reasonably priced and their portions are generous. Dont miss out on the lasagne (not too cheesy and very meaty.) The 9 wood-oven pizza with your choice of fresh toppings is always a favorite. Lunch menu items include a fresh salad and home-made bread. Love this place!
The works pizza is sooo amazing
This is by far my favorite pizza place in San Antonio. The restaurant is very clean and the staff is super accommodating. The pizza is amazing and so are the prices. Not to forget their pasta if youre not going there for pizza I highly recommend the pasta
Great customer service! Kept me updated on my order and had it delivered on time! I would definitely recommend to anyone the pizza is sooo good!
Food and service was excellent. Really enjoyed our meal. Delicious.
Everything here is fantastic. All dishes are made in house. Great menu for both the wine and food. Mondays they have the prime rib. Tiramisu-- absolutely devine. One negative, there is a long wait during the work week for lunch. Currently only 1 waiter and over 6 tables plus the bar. I feel bad for him.
This was the best meal I have had in San Antonio! The pizza and the Monday Prime Rib special was INCREDIBLE! Our service was impeccable and I left wishing I lived here so I could come back all the time. Do not make the mistake of not coming to enjoy this fantastic restaurant. Thank you to our server, Esteban for such a great experience and dinner.
Food is good, service was horrible. I wouldnt come back or recommend. maybe take out
Good food! Server was new but did a decent job.
Fantastic customer service, food was even better! Highly recommended.
It was solid... I only got apps. Will come back and try main meal. Did I hear correctly, no red house wine nor expresso ....
It would have a 5 star the food was excellent but inexperienced staff resulted in not so great service.
Found this little gem today. The atmosphere is great. Ashley your service is top notch. This is definitely gonna be a favorite for us.
Great little location friendly staff and amazing food love how Hometown it feels...definitely recommend. Try this amazing little spot.
Got very sick after eating the chicken Alfredo here.So 5 thumbs down.
Great, local southtown Italian restuarant. The name, Southtown Pizzeria, is misleading. This restuarant is full blown Italian with pizza being maybe 1/4 of the menu. I asked why the name, and the reply was basically we didnt want to intimidate people, but wanted everyone to feel comfortable. Well, it works. Good food and well be back.
Ok pizza. Better options in town.
If youre looking for authentic Italian pizza, this place is great!! The outside patio is super cute and dog friendly. Bonus- its BYOB!!
Just moved to the downtown area and was wanting pizza I figured I would give this place a try. Unfortunately things didnt go so well I had a small pizza and order took alot longer only to get what I did not order. Hopefully this is not your experience I will not be coming back I will be trying pizza vesuvio.
Southtown Pizzeria is everything. Service, food, quality, and total experience is on point every time we visit. The owners are here often and love to make sure you are having a great experience. It doesnt matter what you order, its guaranteed to be amazing. Southtown Pizzeria is setting the new standard for restaurants in the area.
This spot is absolutely fantastic. Amazing flavor in every sauce and possibly the best vegetable medley I’ve ever had. I just moved from nyc and this type of quality is worth 10x than what it is.
Pizza was GREAT! Service not so much. Management definitely needs to think about more staff on weekends. We waited 30 mins to be seated and then 15 mins for our beers and another hour+ for our pizzas. Our server was doing his best, but was very overwhelmed. Thankfully there was back of the house help to come assist.
Nom nom nom....its definitely different in an authentic way.
This was an absolute terrible experience! My girlfriend and I wanted to get some good homemade Italian food while we visited San Antonio. The reviews look really good so we decided to try it, that was a mistake! It took a while to be seated and the table next to us ended up leaving because they didnt even have drinks yet. It took forever to get just water and we finally got our bread way later! At some point the man who seated us apologized and offered us some wine. It was a nice gesture and we were willing to wait for some good food so we did. Maybe an hour later he came back and said You still havent gotten your food, like no we have not gotten our food and we ran out of bread 30 minutes ago. 2 hours later we got part of our food, they brought out my pasta, which didnt have what I asked for. So Im supposed to eat my food without my girlfriend, but I couldnt even do that! They never brought silverware, so I tried a piece and it tasted liked room temperature box pasta. We ended up leaving after that. Also I really hope their delivery driver is okay, while we waited to be seated the man was on the phone with a customer who was waiting for their food to be delivered, the man said he was sorry and he was worried he hasnt heard from the delivery driver for a couple of orders. We considered Olive Garden from the beginning but decided to try a nice local place out, we were WRONG. We ended up going to Olive Garden anyways. If I could give 0 stars I would!
Our meal was absolutely wonderful. SO good.
Absolutely fantastic experience! You do have wait a bit but its so worth it. The food is delicious and tastes fresh. I will definitely come back. We had the brussel sprouts and caprese salad as appetizers. I had the chicken piccata and it was so flavorful.
We have yet to dine inside due to covid but the space is like walking into a Italian Tuscan countryside restaurant.I love the pizza and cant wait to try more!
