One of my favorite steak house in San Diego! They have amazing cocktails, I mean it’s not cheap, like the continental but it was one of the best whiskey sours I tasted!! Food was also amazing. We got the beef tartare, bone marrow, bread service, oysters, scallops and ribeye 35 day age and a 18OZ t-bone 21 day age. If you get the bone marrow, but it on top of the beef tartare, it’s the best advice from the waitress! My T-bone steak was amazing, perfectly cooked, need a tad bit more salt but better under salt then over. I mean seasoning was good, but I like my steak a little more salty. Oh and we ended with their special house bread pudding, which is the best bread pudding you’ll ever taste!! Highly recommend everything.

I was in the mood for a really good steak and when I saw Cowboy Star had Wagyu Skirt Steak, I knew I had to give it a try. The entire steak tasted like a well marbled fat cap on a ribeye, but so much better! I would highly recommend everyone gives this place a chance, it was well worth the wait and worth sitting at the bar over a table! Next time Im in San Diego, Ill be going back!

I know you love it here. We came for mothers day and just loved the food. I had to cut back on red meat at the time so I ordered the nettles pasta which was better then excepted. My hubby loved the bison. I suggest getting the Brussel sprout appetizer its so good and creme brulee for dessert.

Awesome spot. Buttery rolls can’t be passed on here. Food is on point. The American snake river Wagyu flank steak is tender and delicious - pretty amazing for a normally tough cut of meat. Desserts are amazing as well. Very friendly wait staff and excellent customer service. Highly recommended.

We eat out quite often, but I have to say this restaurant is special. We ate there for the first time on my birthday today. The menu even said Happy Birthday, Sandie on the top. From the moment you enter the front door to the moment you sit down each staff member is super attentive to ensure each guest has an enjoyable experience. The food was AMAZING! Everything we ordered was cooked perfectly and tasted fantastic. I didnt get a picture of the to die for mushroom risotto because it was eaten as soon as it hit the table. At the end of the meal the General Manager came over to make sure our food was up to our standards and to thank us for coming in. This is one of the top rated restaurants in San Diego! Highly recommend.

This is the place to come to celebrate a birthday or anniversary . You need to love a great steak . I think they have the best steaks in San Diego. There good is amazing. There wine selection is also great. You need to make a reservation weeks in advance but it’s so worth it.

This 35 day dry aged bone-in ribeye was absolutely mouth wateringly delicious. Highly recommend this steak as well as the steamed Mussels in the garlic white wine broth.

Great service and amazing food. The dry aged ribeye was one of the best steaks Ive ever had. It was a dinner with my husband the night before going on deployment and he said it was the perfect send-off meal. Well definitely be visiting again when he gets back.

One of the best dining experiences we’ve ever had. We sat at the bar & Garth took such good care of us. We let him order for us and we are so happy we did! The Wagyu skirt steak blew our minds! Reminded us of Argentina. It tasted like there was gravy in the meat. So tender & succulent. I’m going to dream about this steak until our next trip to San Diego.

Not accommodating. Super small. Had to step over homeless to get through the door. Maybe steaks are good but didn’t have the opportunity to try it as I was turned away with no reservation at 4pm on a Tuesday for 4 people by floor manager. Dining experience needs to be everything from customer service, to environment, to food from moment you get there till moment you leave. Go north county to Vigilucci’s steakhouse, much cleaner and accommodating plus you have a view of the ocean!

It was delicious! We had the rib eye and bison NY strip, side of brussel sprouts, salad, mash potatoes and oysters for an appetizer. The service was great. They were timely and friendly. I highly recommend.

Everything about this place is just amazing from the appetizers to the deserts and drinks. While visiting my friend in San Diego we came to Cowboy Star to enjoy some great steaks. The Mac & cheese were awesome, the steaks were pretty good but we had some appetizers that were a ridiculous small portion, meant to feed birds, lol. Beside the horrible appetizer (forget what they were, everything else was very good. Great service, and good food. They had a great theme going also, we enjoyed sitting on these awesome cowhide lounge chairs in waiting area.

Id highly recommend anyone in the San Diego area looking for a quality restaurant with exceptional service to try the Cowboy Star Restaurant. You wont be disappointed at all. The food is amazing, the staff go out of their way to make sure that every customer has what they need. Make sure you try the 14oz ribeye steak when you go.

It was good, not great. Ive always been a fan of this place but it fell a little short this time around. Baja oysters, already not a fan of warm water oysters always way too briney, then they were served warm. That was a surprise, at least make sure they are cold when they come out. Keep them on ice right? Mmm warm salt water. Keep your $40.Had the duck and dry aged rib eye. Rib eye did not taste dry aged, its a very distinct flavor and it wasnt present. The duck was good but the veg on the plate, wow it was inedible. So much salt, everyone at the table tried it because they didnt believe me. Wasnt edible.Ordered three desserts, only got two of them. Forgot to put in the third.Spent well over $600 for four people. That wasnt $600 execution.Again I do still really like this place, always have. But, I had better meal at rare society and much cheaper.

They had great food, great desserts, and phenomenal service. Their wine list could have been better. I will say I was thinking 4 stars, but Jose and Veronica’s service was so great that they needed 5 stars.

By far if not the best steak, one of the top steaks, in the San Diego area. The service was great. Their non alcohol menu was very good. The prickly pear and cucumber lemonades were so very good. Out of all the places we ate at the week we were in San Diego, this was our favorite.

When a city offers so many options, these guys step up and provide an exceptional service, menu and the food we have had here has been perfect. Highly recommended

Excellent experience. Steaks were perfectly cooked and filleted upon request. We started with a complimentary cucumber appetizer. Followed with mussels and steak tartare. Couldnt resist the toasted sourdough soaked in the mussel juice. We shared a wedge and a Caesar, which were accented with slices or pancetta. Delicious! The service was fantastic making it a perfect evening. Only drawback is no valet or attached parking so plan ahead. Looks small from the street and you might miss it but its across the street from Grocery Outlet for reference.

If you want to eat at one of the best steak places in San Diego, this is it. Ive been here about five times now and every time it was all delicious. Ive ordered the dry aged ribeye and the NY strip, as well as the skirt steak. I would recommend getting the skirt steak with a side of chimichurri, and both the steak tartare and the bone marrow. One of the servers told us to order the tartare and the marrow at the same time ; those two dishes paired together were amazing. If youre stopping by in San Diego or youre a longtime local I would ask that you treat yourself and stop by here.

We went there at 7 without booking. Dining area was fully booked so we dined at a table in a bar area. We ordered mussel, tartar steak and different kind of steak. Mussel is highly recommended as a starter.

Great food, service and atmosphere. I sat at the Chefs Bar and was able to watch my food being prepared, I loved it. I had the appetizer Steak Tartare, for the main course I had the Wagyu Skirt Steak and finally topped it all off with the bread pudding. All of it was amazing but the Skirt Steak is one of the best Ive ever had.

The service and ambiance were fantastic! My wife loved her filet but my NY Strip was good not great. I would recommend this place as an upper casual dining establishment but not top notch.

My expectations were high going in and man did they live up to it . Let me start by explaining why they didn’t get a 5star .... so what I didn’t like was that my 150$ wagyu steak while amazingly delicious had like a tendon running through it which made it chewy at certain parts. Normally I wouldn’t complain but for the price charged I would expect them to trim that out . Secondly the service while good could have been more friendly and I would have liked them to tell me I was ordering too much because I was with another person and the portions were large enough to serve a party twice our size .That said the meal was delicious, I especially loved the charcuterie and cheese .... out of this world good and so was the side of wild mushrooms .I will certainly come back . Job well done .

My wife had the mushroom rissotto, pretty good choice if you dont eat meat. About $14. My recomended drink is the old fashion $12. For dessert we had the bread putting, not the best but ok. Went there for drinks and appetizers before going out to dinner. We should have stayed. The bartender, Alvin, is the bomb. So friendly and professional. We had the deviled eggs and the fries. We had never been to cowboy star, but have heard nothing but great things! Their Japanese wage was incredible... mouth watering! It was $135 for 8oz, so be ready to spend if you’re looking for quality! That and the filet mignon came with sides, so that was great! They were standard potato and vegetable sides, but good to have. Their wagu pasta was pretty great as well! The Cesar has big anchovies on and in it, so be prepared for that if you order a salad. Great service, and old school steakhouse vibe. Would return for the wagu!

Probably the best steak house Ive ever been to. Definitely better than the top tier chain steak places. The prices are high, but its worth it. One of the only places you can get a full size cut of Wagyu ribeye, even if it is like $200. Definitely splurge on this one once in a while.Dont miss out on the appetizers and sides either!

My husband and I just celebrated our first wedding Anniversary and we were very excited to hear that Cowboy Star was open again for business! We reserved a table for our anniversary. We were so excited to see a “Happy 1st Year Anniversary” printed on the top of the menu(thank you Jon and Angie)! The whole evening from the fabulous service to the meal and the entire experience was more than we could of hoped for during this very strange time...hats off to Cowboy Star Restaurant and it’s wonderful staff for making our first anniversary so wonderful! Great atmosphere, and food is good. However a-little to trendy (fancy dishes) for me with respect to a steakhouse. When I go to a good steakhouse I expect a good assortment of good steaks and side dishes, and this restaurant has a good amount of choices but they are for the more adventurous such as Bone-Marrow that you scoop out of the bone. Overall a great restaurant but understand that they have a menu for the person who likes a broader palette, but if you are looking for the typical steakhouse you might want to check the menu here first to ensure this place is for you. Beautiful restaurant and woodwork inside the restaurant is amazing.

I often meet people here to talk. The staff was sociable and attentive. Prices that are reasonable. My apartment is far from here, so I cant visit often.

Just got married and wanted to celebrate with my new wife. Since we live 350 miles apart and she was only in town for one night, it was going to be a big event for us. Instead we walked up to the restaurant to eat and they were closed! No one let us know they were closed or closing. No one called to tell us they canceled our reservation. Now we are spending our night eating take out because no one can book us a reservation anywhere else on short notice. If their customer service is any reflection on their food I would recommend spending $80 on a steak at another location.

Went here when i was craving a steak and i am so glad i did. My GF and i loved our choices. Started with the C-Star signature steak tartare that was awesome. Then the Ribeye that was cooked perfectly. My GF had the Bison New York strip which was good also but said my Ribeye had a good flavor. My drink was the Cowboy Whisky Sour made by our waiter Mike other then tasting great it looked very cool. Finished with the chocolate chip bread pudding. The staff very friendly and informative. I sometimes pick several options and ask the staff for their suggestions, I was not disappointed with their choices. I do recommend making a reservation. Although we walked in earlier in the evening and were seated at the bar in about 15 min. Will definitely return.

The service is 5 stars all around. Every single member of the staff was incredibly friendly, helpful, thoughtful, efficient, and charismatic. I came to celebrate my birthday very late (had reservations for here the same week the state shut down indoor dining) and they went above and beyond with the custom printed menu and birthday dessert!Mark was our server. He was fantastic! Best server Ive ever had, period.Pro-tip: if you order the Hokkaido wagyu in addition to normal steaks, save the wagyu for last!

The bar was busy at 4:50 before the dining opens at 5. I was seated by the kitchen but at a table (they have counter seating). I started with the Cowboy Star Manhattan at $14. It was okay a little light on the Rye. I had the 12oz New York medium rare. It came with very good mashed potatoes and green beans. The steak was trimmed almost perfectly and it was nicely salted. Full of flavor and tender.

There are a lot of good steakhouses in San Diego, but the Cowboy Star is at the top of the list. We sat at the seats overlooking the kitchen and it was really fun. We convinced our waiter to give us extra bacon when he was making our salads, and they were spectacular. The filets were very tender, flavorable, and perfectly cooked. Great wine list. Excellent single malt scotch as well. Close to the Gaslamp/Petco. Our waiter was attentive and knowledgeable. We were at an Italian restaurant the night before and asked our waiter what he thought the best steak restaurant was in San Diego and he said the Cowboy Star. Glad he have us a great recommendation!Review update- I was in San Diego again and had the good fortune to have dinner at the Cowboy Star again. Still great! A little off the beaten path, but worth it!

This place is my favorite site. Of all restaurants I know I prefere it most. I always suggests to my friends to go to visit this place. when I I need a delicious supper, this restaurant comes straight to my head. Great and all sorts of food and a large menu.generous staff, and good spirit. Also, the price is decent. I sent my friends to this spot with no doubt.

We ordered steaks, 1 skirt and a filet, and they have been fantastic! I debated getting a sauce but chosen to simply do the beef. I am glad I did since the taste was superb! Additionally they purchase their meals from nearby areas that I realized. Normally Id have leftovers but those servings were only ideal for a single meal. Not too large but not too little. We had a chocolate chip bread pudding which was really yummy. The air is a western motif and pretty snug. Overall really good.
