I LOVE this store! The staff is always super helpful and have great suggestions. They wont try to up-sell you. If you love to cook, or love someone who does check em out! They have gift boxes and gift cards too!

Penzeys Spices is amazing! The people are wonderful, so knowledgeable, so friendly and so helpful. Theres not enough wonderful things to say about all the spices and seasonings choices themselves. When the pandemic ends, you need to visit the store because the shopping experience itself is just so enjoyable. Who would have ever thought that a spice store could make such a positive difference in someones life? Ive been using Penzeys Spices for about 20 years now. I started going when my daughter was so young she would sit and color at their coloring station while I shopped. Now my daughter insists on using only Penzeys Spices in her own kitchen. Theyre only doing curbside right now, but theyre about to open up again. Do yourself a favor and go. Fair warning, though. Theyll spoil you forever for any other brand of spice or seasoning!

Penzeys is the only legit spice store in the San Diego. I get everything I need here and they always have great sales.

The spices are always fresh, and the employees are always so helpful. I love the pepper and vanilla especially. Plus they gave me a lg bottle of cinnamon and sugar, which I love for French toast and creme brulee! Even though the pandemic has slowed down everything they still provided curbside assistance.

To start telling you how much I adore Penzeys Spices I need to say that when I was supposed to move from Houston to San Diego I started doing a list of places in Houston that I loved and wanted to check if Sd had. So here we go...Penzeys Spice is in my top list. Not only the friendly service, all the incredible variety of spices, vanilla, cinnamon of all kinds. Even spices that Im used to cook from Brazil or Italy yes they have. I always buy the Beef Base and is delicious for sauces and everything you want. They have other flavors too. The bags of dry Parsley, Oregano and other ones save me all the time. I would love to be able to use fresh ones but they dont last and these ones are top quality.

Penzeys Spice has been one of my favorite companies for over 15 years. Their new store spots has just added to the overall wonderfulness of this company! The San Diego store is visually attractive--organized well--and staffed with some of the friendliest gals Im meet. And oh, the smell! Best smelling store youve been in! If you need some inspiration to start cooking or baking, this is the place to get it!

Try the Vietnamese cinnamon. Cannot be beat. The staff is always helpful. Some other favorites are dried minced garlic, dried ginger (minced and sliced), white peppercorns, and several seasoning mixes which are fantastic, and time savers.

Hands down the best spices. Customer service is great and they are keeping their business, customers and team members as covid safe as possible.

The product quality and depth of choices is terrific.Can order online and pickup there and with COVID restrictions now, they will bring it to your vehicle.

Not open during posted hours.Rushed down to Penzeys tonight to catch them before their 6p closing time (per google maps). I only needed a couple things and would be in and out. Whew! Made it...but the closed sign was already up? Gent in front of me had to knock for a pickup order and was accommodated. I asked the lady what time they closed - she said 545 and it is listed on their website. Ok, well bummer, my mistake.Walked back to my car. Got in, looked at my phone...and it was only 541?! Btw, I also checked on their website and didnt find any posted hours; they link to Apple Maps which also lists 6p as closing time.They get +1 star though bc I found a new go-to spice spot instead! Check out North Park Produce. Great spice selection and prices :).

I love Penzeys Spices, for the variety, knowledgeable staff, and the peace that being around a universe of herbs, spices, and other flavorings instills in a restless soul. Each spice or herb is offered in your choice of different size jars or bags, with a sample jar of each available so that you can smell them without plastic or glass masking their fragrance. Its a great place to shop, unwind, and dream about cooking and eating.

If variety is the spice of life, then Penzeys is the life of spice. Love this place! Excellent customer service! My mouth waters each visit. It is worth a tour learning about origins and different types of spices!

Really nice, clean, appealing store. I enjoyed browsing around. I was greeted when I came in and then was left alone to shop. The cashier was super friendly and most helpful. She helped me select the correct spices based on the dishes I would be making. As a first time customer, she also gave me the current coupons and discounts! I will definitely shop here again!!!

Amazing!! The selection of spices and seasonings blew my mind. I was not expecting such a nice and clean store. It was fun to walk around and smell the different spices and seasonings. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Penzeys Cinnamon is my absolute go to in my cooking. My cousin happened by chance to stop in the store and bought me a bottle to try out. I’ve been hooked ever since. This time I made the trip to see what else they offer and walked out with quite a few bottles. Parking was easy to get in/out quickly (if need be). Sign up for their emails, they have amazing specials.

So, Im a huge nerd about cooking and baking. Penzeys is my favorite find for getting interesting spices. They have everything you could need from five different types of cinnamon (my favorite is the Vietnamese cinnamon, seriously, give it a try) to a so many different curry powder I could never try them all. My only complaint is that they dont have any finishing salts.

Just came in here today after I read the email one of my friends shared about Penzys decision to speak out about Trump and I was so impressed!I love buying food thats good for me and is also takes responsibility for its community, so right away this place was getting a gold star from me. But what really cemented this was how great the store was!First of all, everything is so neatly organized and made shopping super simple, specially for a newbie like me who had never been here until today. I was rushing in at the last minute to get there before they closed, and oh my goodness! The staff was so helpful! I told them about a pie Im getting ready to make for my office holiday party and they had some great suggestions. I ended up getting everything I needed, plus stocking up on a few other things. Plus everything was so affordable! Everything I bought was either the same price, or a few cents cheaper, than what I would get at the grocery store.I literally cant wait to get started on my baking this year! I already used a few of their spices while making my usual vegan chickpea salad to put in my sandwich for work and everything had a really great flavor to it. You can tell that these folks are great about not only preserving, but rotating old spices out once the oils start to fade.I cant wait to come back here again! A+ guys! Keep up the great work and wonderful customer service!

Great place to find spices that you cant find at the mega mart. Also nice that you can buy smaller quantities.

Probably the only place on the planet to get this selection of really great spices. Its truly incredible. Makes the grocery store selection more than pale in comparison. I found these guys 15 years or so ago in the middle of the country, and when they opened a store in San Diego my wife and I went nuts. You will not be disappointed and their blends are really good. Once you have foods seasoned this way you get addicted and cant go back. Honest. My kids raised this way, now adults, follow suit.

People who join their online mailing list get offers for free spices or free with purchase spices. The stores have sample jars of their spices/blends so you can smell and even taste something you are considering buying. They have a large collection of recipes provided by customers to make the best use of their products. The owner has great empathy for people and he embodies how Americans should behave with openness and the belief in equality for all people.

All the spices here are so good. Also pretty decent prices. If you subscribe to their email, you can get free stuff most weeks just by spending five bucks.

My wife and I walked to Penzeys to fill in the gaps of our spice collection, and wow it was a fantastic experience. The staff was polite offering aide, but wasnt pushy when we declined their offer. We spent about an hour there smelling everything and walked away extremely pleased. We bought about 20 different spices and ended up with 4 extras for free due to promotions.

Amazing store with lots of fresh, delicious spices. Ive been really enjoying the Fox Point and the extra bold tellicherry peppercorns! I also purchased the lemon pepper, Cajun, French thyme, and ancho chili powder which are excellent as well. Very nice, helpful staff. Our new go to, I cant wait to pick up gifts here! Theres also a great sushi restaurant next door, that we dined at and it was really good.

Fresh and amazing spices. The flavors are incredible in the individual spices, and the mixes have great profiles. Light years ahead of anything you find in the supermarket.

This place was amazing. Beyond friendly and helpful staff. The smells that greet you as you enter the store are so intoxicating. Like the finest resteraunt in all the lands. And the variety is superb. I can honestly say I am a new lifetime customer. I live in Vancouver BC, the closest one is Lynnwood Washington. About 3 hours away. And ever minute of the drive will be worth it.

I cant tell you how happy I was to finally go into a Penzeys Spice Store. I have been ordering their spices for years, (10 years) but to walk into the store and smell the samples, oh what a treat! The staff have all been very nice, knowledgeable, and helpful. The last time I was there, I made up a wedding shower gift and started with the 16 small bottles and ended up with the 32! I just kept thinking, oh, she will want this one and so on! I also changed the cinnamon I used to order because I was able to smell the different cinnamons they carry.I LOVE this store and hope it stays in business a long time. Friendly and helpful. I normally order online but needed a few things right away. My favorite herbs are bay leaves and Mexican oregano. Fajita and taco seasonings are must haves, as well.

After the letter regarding Trumps and the Republican Partys racism and bigoted and discriminatory platform, I bought Christmas gifts on line and at the store to support the company. Good work, Bill. Hopefully your letter will cause some folks to reflect on what they have done. Penzeys has a wide assortment of spices, a few of which seem difficult to find elsewhere. Heard about them by word of mouth, and decided to stop by when I was in the neighborhood. Picked up a few things, good chance I will be back when I run out since I am cooking a lot more these days.

Kinda hidden from the road even though it has a huge sign. I only ever see the ice cream shop in this bit of mall when driving past to go to Trader Joes or Cox.But, yay! Now I can get my own spices instead of waiting for my mom in Anaheim to pick some up for me at another Penzeys locations.Like seriously, just had some Mural of Flavor on my eggs this morning. Nom!

This is the best spice store for fresh spices in San Diego. I have been coming here for years, and was a customer back when I lived in Chicago as well. All time favorite spice is the shallot pepper, incredible combination of shallot, pepper salt and tarragon, the subtle kick is something I enjoy on eggs, avocado toast, sauteed onions, anything I make for breakfast.But that is one spice, and the store is filled both with great combos like this as well as individual spices - need ginger or garlic? You will find 5 types here - same with all your staples.They have classic seasoning from a variety of cuisines like curry, bbq, italian, polish.. they have something called “bratwurst seasoning” my sister sprinkled on sauteed kale and it blew my mind.I’m most excited to try their vanilla bean, cocoa powder and all the variety of lemon, almond, and other extracts for baking... so I can’t vouch for those, yet.Penzys reputation has held up to the test of time and their product quality is really something special.

I left Penzeys after being insulted by their owner and called a racist and bigot. Go to the Spice House instead (online). At least you wont be discriminated against and will be treated decently, no matter what your views.

Top quality spices at reasonable prices. Their spice and herb blends are especially good. Watch the Peri-peri, itll get in your nose, for sure! Very friendly and helpful staff, although it would be nice to see the store follow suit with other Penzeys retail locations and include containers of ground coffee to help clear the nose.

When I looked at the reviews I knew the 1s would be Trump supporters. Bill is ok not taking their money. Like most of the RW boycotts they are only shooting themselves in the foot. I make a rub that is well loved but Penzeys 4Spice and Northwoods Fire are essential to my kitchen. Prices are amazingly reasonable. Everyone is friendly but they do stand by their principles.

If I could give zero stars I would. First, if you look at all the five-star reviews you can tell that most of them are fake and written by someone at Penzeys. Second, I received an email from Bill Penzey telling me that the President-Elect is a racist and that if I voted for him that I too am a racist and that he no longer wishes to have me as a customer. Apparently, according to Bill, fully HALF of the US is racist (even though many of them previously voted for Obama) and he does not wish to have their business. Well, I did vote for President-Elect Trump and neither he nor I am a racist. I am happy to oblige Bill. I have gathered all my Penzeys spices and am returning them. After that I will never step foot in his store. Apparently Bills sister has an unrelated store called The Spice House with a new motto of spices without the side helping of politics. Clever.
