Having moved from Tokyo Japan In Sept. 2020 (after living there for 17 years) to San Diego California. At times one, 🤔well me, craves for a bento or a snack that is made in Japan…so I come here to Mitsuwa. I am no stranger to Mitsuwa for I frequently visited one located just outside Chicago in a area called Arlington Heights. Though the one in Kearny Mesa is not as large as that one it still has some of the things that I crave from time to time. There are more branches of the store located throughout California but this one is closer to me. However, in the near future I will visit those as well.

This grocery had everything I needed. The day I went was picked over in the prepared food sections. Consider going earlier in the day to avoid the lines. It is a very popular place. Some of the produce is quite expensive than I’m used too, but very good otherwise. They also have a few stores inside that carry porcelain goods- and anime merchandise. There was a extensive Japanese toiletries section and medicines as well. Overall good experience. Will be coming back.

Ever feel like you just need to fly to Japan? LOL okay it’s not exactly the same but Mitsuwa does have a lot of the food comforts! There are so many snacks, actual hot food, pickled plums, and more to choose from! From mochi and fresh onigiri to gluten free Kikkoman Panko, possibilities are endless. You’ll come in thinking you’ll be buying one item or two and end up with a basket full! And you know what? Who cares, because you’re in Japan! LOL anyway, I’m so glad this Japanese grocery store has been around since the late 90s! What a San Diego treasure!

This Market place is really good when you wanted to make Japanese or Chinese cuisine . You dont have to go to different store just to find the ingredient. And if you want a meal that is already made, they also have it. Why not try it, youll never know and their price are decent. Have fun....By the way this restaurant was taken before coronavirus ruin our nation.. Mahalo!

Like being in Japan, even the rude old babas. Great selection of everything from groceries, ready to eat goodies, alcohol, appliances and toys. Few restaurants inside but I suggest the Poke place in the same strip mall. Prices are up there but what do you expect? I hear the weekends are best because they have more ready to eat foods.

It’s ok… was expecting a Mitsuwa like the Chicago one but ended up feeling this is only like 1/3 of what the Chicago location has to offer. No in-house bakery, and the foodcourt is underwhelming. Still a solid spot to get Japanese grocery items, but I wouldn’t travel out of my way for this location.

This place is where I always buy my breakfast and lunch. It is healthy and tasty. You would not go wrong with any of these food. This where I buy groceries sometimes. Everything is in this place. You can eat here, buy groceries, and beauty products. They even have a gift store here. They have anime store. They have a dessert place here. Or you can simply just buy an on the go lunch. Fried or grilled fish with tempura vegetables. They have varieties of side dishes. They have rolls. They have ice cream. They bave ramen. They have alcohol, juice, vitamin jellies. Everything is in one place. This is one of the place you will never regret going, but the parking is bad. Thus, you have to be patient waiting or parking on the side of street if needed.

The best Asian market in San Diego, featuring primarily Japanese goods but not exclusively. The best thing about Mitsuwa is the awesome food court attached to each one. This one is special because it features cute Harajuku style crepes and has a gourmet mochi and wagashi stand too.The second best thing about Mitsuwa is huge array of products, foods, alcohol, and prepared foods that they have. Things I would only think to find on Japan are at my fingertips:Chicken katsu sandwiches & other Japanese style gourmet prepared foodsBento box mealsSo many delicious donburi dishesFresh onigiriMelon cream panAnime & ghibli merchandiseJapanese blind boxesAll the fun Japanese kids candyJapanese and Korean skincare and make upFun stuff you might only find at Donquiote in Osaka or TokyoThe last best thing about Mitsuwa are their weekly adds and cultural celebrations! Sometimes they feature little food booths where you can purchase extra fun treats for certain times of the year or in honor of a special holiday.

I visited SD for two days and visited mitsuwa three times; all three times, I bought uni. I love uni and at basically $2 per piece, it was worth it. I bought the $30 set twice and the $16 set once. Im from Texas so the only way for me to get uni that tastes this good is to go to a good sushi restaurant. Our local h Mart sells uni, but its not as good as mitsuwas.Anyway, great uni and great everything else. Produce looks fresh, the hotate I got was good for the price, bento and onigiri were good. Customer service was excellent all three times. Parking was abundant and the store was clean. I appreciate the steps taken for safety and protection in-store during the pandemic. I didnt touch the card reader (my phone barely did), but the cashier wiped it down after I checked out anyway. All cashiers wore gloves and sanitized everything, hands too.I wish we had mitsuwa in Austin so so much.

One of my favorite Asian markets! The food court is undoubtedly one of the best Japanese cuisine catering in San Diego. I especially love the actual market part of the store! Oooooohhhhhh mmmmmmmyyyyyy! Im such a sucker for amazing Ramen!!! Love the ramen here. If I had a bucket list, Id try each type before I die. 😆Gets busy as soon as it opens at 11a. Get there early to stand in line. If you have company with you, have them snag the seat. As soon as it opens, I swear, the line is ridiculous, then they run out of seats! We had people hovering over us while we ate to snatch our table the moment we stood up.I think I tried the spicy ramen once then the miso another time. Hubby had the salt once and also the spicy. I just cant tell you how much I love it. Totally reminds me of the small ramen shops in Nagoya or Tokyo.Just FYI, its not cheap. Running about $10-15. If you order sides and a drink, it can be a pricey lunch. There is some amazing sushi here in the store, too!Soooooo yuuuummmmuuuuyyyy 🍜

Santoukas salt ramen has the best tasting soup of all ramen places Ive tried in San Diego. Musashiyas tempura shrimp is large, plump, and very crispy if you request the sauce on the side. Seating is often tough but you just gotta post up and watch for people getting ready to leave. I also like to buy futomaki, sushi, soba, monaka ice cream, and milk tea at the supermarket so I get it all done in one place. The regular spot!
