Delicious local beer. Pleasant streetside seating has a view of a beautiful new mural. Looking forward to trying the savory pies next time!
Great space with excellent beer. Awesome vibe and loved the people who were working there. Will make this place part of my regular rotation.
Beautiful tap room with lots of character. Fantastic beer! Friendly, neighborhood vibe. Will definitely return.
FDR is just the best. As soon as they opened their retail store I purchased an entire brewing set and then, over the following few months, brewed 4 different beers and was astonished at the final product. But the help I got from Kevin at FDR was essential. He was super helpful in getting me from a total brewing newbie to a confident drinking master. But that was just my experience in buying home brew equipment. Having a drink at FDR is just as rewarding and I cannot recommend this watering hole more. Run by smashing people, serving excellent beer in a wonderfully quiet part of San Francisco.
A great spot for some beer and some games. Its a relatively small setting that serves small batch beer. The beer is all good and given that its small batch stuff there is a great variety. I got a flight w/ 4 beers and was pleased with all 4. The favorite for me was the Auckland IPA, which was an IPA made exclusively with New Zealand Origin hops. Which was a great departure from drinking similar stuff in the area lately. The facility is also family friendly and has a bunch of games to play, including a big connect four, shuffle board and a rack of other games to play. And they have a homebrew supply shop there as well, in case you need some supplies to make your own brew.
Solid beers, great local neighborhood atmosphere. Definite must if you’re in the area.
I am so thrilled that FDR is open! First off, it was so easy to get there and find parking. I was really blown away by the variety of base and specialty malts available. Each is clearly marked with detailed descriptions of their characteristics and potential uses in your brew. Its like a library of fresh malt! They also have a great selection of fresh yeast and hops. I easily found everything I needed. The owners are great listeners, and are happy to walk you through your recipe planning, or let you browse away. I was stunned by the low pricing, but I didnt argue! The shop is so thoughtfully organized, which gives me a strong indication that the fresh beer they will soon be brewing and serving will be equally thoughtful and delicious. I cant wait!
A hidden treasure! There’s always a new, tasty surprise to be found on the evolving roster of house-made beers. But what really makes FDR special is the warm, familial atmosphere you’ll find here. Proprietors Shae and Kevin put a premium on hospitality. The bar staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the brews on tap, and will pour you a taste if you’re having trouble deciding what to order. Kids are welcome (and easily occupied with the large stash of board games), dogs are welcome, everybody’s welcome! The surrounding neighborhood offers multiple options for take-out food, which FDR encourages you to bring in and enjoy with your beer. A great little neighborhood pub in the greatest little neighborhood you’ve never heard of.
My wife and I were already enamored with the Portola District as we were house hunting and considering a move. Then we were introduced to FDR, Shae, Kevin and a host of folks at the bar one Thursday evening. It was INCREDIBLY friendly and I have it admit, that night was a turning point for us. We put an offer on the house, won it and are now strategizing our remodel and pending move. In the meantime, we have returned many times to FDR and each trip has been as good or better than the first. The beer is great, the bar design is fabulous....BUT.... the people are what put this place over the top incredible. Thanks Shae and Kevin (and many other locals) for making us feel so welcomed into our new neighborhood! Keep brewing and we will keep drinking.
Great place, great drinks and a vast variety of delicious beers. There was a live band playing as well which really enhanced the experience. I cant give it 5 because I would have love for them to have some type of finger foods..or snacks! Otherwise super chill place to hang out with friends.
I love this place and the FDR beers! A fun, happy, friendly environment, and they even have a shuffleboard table. The owners/bartenders are cool and fun to talk to, they have TVs if you want to watch a game -- but the TVs dont rule the space -- and theres always good music. Oh and very dog friendly too!!
FDR has a warm ambiance, in part because of the people inside, but the physical design is also great with a great deal of flexibility for different kinds of events. The bar itself is warm and welcoming, with staff always friendly and ready to pour. Its a welcoming space to meet up with friends and neighbors for a drink, to play some games, and to learn about brewing beer. FDR went through two years of hell getting the place open, and have come out the other side with a space the neighborhood is proud of and is more than happy to support.Their beers are delightful, but as good as they are, the owners and staff are even more awesome! Now theyre doing live music on Thursdays and have hosted a variety of holiday events like New Years Eve, St. Patricks Day, and more. The owners and staff have quickly become part of the community and have become involved in local groups like the Portola Neighborhood Association and their efforts to improve the business corridor.FDR is a great addition to the neighborhood and the business diversity on the street, and we are really glad theyre here!
What an awesome addition to our neighborhood! Shae and Kevin have quickly made this spot the locals gathering place in the Portola, and every time we go in there it feels like a neighborhood party. The rotation of beers are great and they are always happy to let you have a taste before you buy. Further, they really know their stuff and explain what makes each beer unique.I truly cant say how welcome this place is in the neighborhood! I look forward to many years of intoxication at FDR.
Great local bar. They have a beer brewed from hops grown right here in Portola. They have trivia, karaoke, and comedy nights.
One of the best small boutique brewerys in San Francisco located right off of 101. They have a constant rotation of new craft beers that are all brewed on site and they sell home brewing kits and supplies as well. The owners, Shae and Kevin are both behind the bar and very helpful/friendly. Most important for me besides the great beer and ambiance is the ample parking available unlike the rest of SF.
Fantastic local craft beer with a rotating selection on 10 taps. Always a relaxed vibe with friendly staff. A few snack are available to purchase or you can pick up take-out from a number of nearby restaurants and bring it in to enjoy with a beer.Dog friendly!
Friendly neighborhood Brewery but with award winning beers and always something new to try, we love this place! Their small batch brewing capabilities allow them to experiment and every time we go, there is something new to try that is always unique and honestly good. On top of that, its one of the few true Mom & Pop breweries in the city, they know their regulars and support San Francisco artists with their gallery space and by hosting local bands to play live on Thursdays. This place is a hidden gem!
Great place for beer, friends and fun! They support the arts with rotating art exhibits and live music on Thursday nights. They offer a delightful selection of brews. Its a great addition to the neighborhood!
We went in on a Tuesday night thinking it would be kind of slow. It wasnt. There was live music and a display of local art. The beers were excellent. The bartender was very friendly. Its a small, intimate location that has a nice neighborhood feel to it.
Great low-key place to grab a beer. Very dog friendly. They have fantastic dog treats made from beer by products!
Down to earth welcoming staff and people who come hangout. Beer is solid and they host a variety of events/food vendors to check out.
I highly recommend trying a flight; Shae and Kevin can recommend which beers to try depending on your tastes. Was not disappointed with any of the beers I tried. Go out and support your local breweries!
Delicious IPA varieties brewed on site. Pricing is incredibly reasonable with flights and half pours offered as well.Staff is incredibly friendly.
This spot is just what the Portola desperately needed! From the moment they opened it quickly became the gathering place where you know youll find a friendly face. Its our own little Cheers! And if you love beer, you will appreciate their collection of home brew craft beer. They really strive to have something for everyone - even kids and dogs are welcome! Thank goodness for Shae and Kevin for choosing the Portola. We love how much theyve invested here to make FDR a welcoming place to unwind.
Wonderful neighborhood brewery! great selection of beers and kombucha too! super friendly and inviting. 5 big stars!
Nice place to get a beer and chill with friends. Also have board games and a table game of which I dont know the name
Fantastic selection of craft beers, friendly staff, clean and inviting environment. Great place to hang out and drink beer. Close to restaurants and you can bring outside food in to eat while you drink.
Terrific craft brewery, with excellent neighborhood atmosphere. The brew master is a good couple of notches above average, so youll find beers that are both interesting and very, very drinkable.
For a family guy like me theres no better place. The kids keep themselves occupied with the dozens of board games or play shuffleboard while dad recharges his batteries . Sometimes, if FDR is not hosting a restaurant, we order take out from Roundtable and bring it into the bar. The owners are absolutely as friendly and accommodating as they get. We are so lucky to have them here in the Portola. Take a flight for $10 bucks. You wont be disappointed.
I came to FDR for an ArtSpan Reception on Taco Tuesday. The art was great, the tacos were excellent and the live music contributed to the atmosphere. Lets not forget the beer, either, it went down very well! Very convenient muni access from the Bacon Street stop on lines 8, 9, 9R.
Great neighborhood brewery thats doing some interesting stuff. Also has a small home-brew supply store.
A nice hangout spot with some tasty selection of beers. They have a bunch of board games to choose from - which can get quite entertaining
I get to buy my beer supplies, drink delicious beer, hang out with good people, and listen to live music with my little boy. I’d say this is my favorite hangout spot.
Okayish beer, but the bartender was not outgoing or friendly, there were tons of flies buzzing around, and there were TVs with sports games going on. A few guys at the bar were cheering on teams and yelling, which was really detracting from the experience. We probably wont ever come back here. The styling in the taproom is German centric and pretty nice. Bright colors and nice wooden tables. Its unfortunate that the vibe is pretty much dead, and focused on sports games. Bartender didnt seem interested in beer at all.
FDR is a great place to enjoy tasty beer and meet interesting folks. I love the friendly community vibe that emanates from this place!
Nice and simple. Tasty beer & kambucha selection. Games. Kid friendly. Byo food.
A neighborhood gem! Always something new to try. Shae and Kevin have created a fantastic neighborhood bar that contributes to the history and pride in the Portola, San Franciscos Garden District.
Great taproom and beer supply store! Try the beer curious Belgian ale, you wont regret it!
There is an excellent selection of beer. Although it is usually consistently changing, there is a good range of craft brew staples to more experimental flavors - all well done. This is one of the top spots for locals in Portola. If youre in the neighborhood, grab a brew and talk to the staff. Theyre always beboppin around and having a good time. There are snacks for sale, you can bring in your own food and there is a large selection of board games.Good for low-key beers with the BF/GF over a game of Scrabble.
This place is awesome! Beer is brewed onsite and the owner/brewer is usually around if you want to ask questions. The space is great to hang out for a while--friendly and laid-back vibe. Bringing in outside food is encouraged (the neighborhood has everything from bahn mi to pizza to subs to chinese take out) and the beers are exceptional and always changing. The owners take care of patrons and clearly love what they do--perfect spot!
Excellent tasting IPA’s and very nice employees, was greeted and helped right away. So glad its close to home too!!
Brews are well done and distinct. Theyve games to play and you can bring in food from ~20 restaurants in a 2 block radius.
Great beer and great people! They brew a wide variety of beer and there is always something new to try (not just IPAs)
Great place. Amazingly welcoming people
Great place, giving 5 stars because theyre so dog-friendly!
This is my new favorite brewery in SF! The beers are among some of the best Ive tasted lately in this very crowded mircobrew market. Down Cellah is delicious and my go to when they have it. The IPAs, especially the Red, are quite good and not overly hoppy, just a great sophisticated and layered flavor. Their small batch capability compared to other larger breweries in the area, seems to be a real asset as they have the flexibility to experiment and every time I go in there seems to be something new to sample. The atmosphere is my other favorite aspect to FDR, its a true Mom & Pop operation. The owners and brewmaster are the ones serving the beers, not bar tenders. The place is bright and fun, with things to do such as board games and large community tables to bring a crowd of friends. Food from the restaurants on the street is allowed in which is nice. The crowd is totally mixed, much like the neighborhood, it doesnt feel like a scene but rather your neighborhood pub but with really good and always changing beers.
Waiting on this for a while! Great beer and homebrew shop; easiest to get to in the SF city!
Thoughtful and skilled staff, good beers, and other peoples pets.
Great mellow atmosphere thats kid and dog friendly.
Friendly staff, clean bright decor and a great space to meet friends for a drink.
They are really nice and the beer is very good. Right in my neighborhood.
Tasty and Growing!Sit at the bar and have a pour@
The bartenders are great, the beer is great, and its not too expensive. Im sold.
A nice small brewery bar with a relaxed atmosphere
Great place to drink craft beer and chill
Great beers and the owners are lovely.
Awesome service, this is the definition of neighborhood place, everyone talks to everyone
Excellent beer in a warm friendly atmosphere
Back in 1999 I was working here when that building was called Bob and toms Windows
Live music, great beers!!
Best bears ever
Just great beers!!!
Good people.
This place is Lord approved.
What a cycle
