Established in 2011, with a storefront at Calle Loíza 1852 opened three years later, Double Cake started as a home business dedicated to making Cakes, Yaritza Lozano and husband Orlando Santiago moving from careers in education and graphic design to the world of sweets when government funding dried up for the former.Dubbed Double Cake Baking Studio, and known for Puerto Rican specialties as well as traditional Baked Goods like Cookies or Brownies, it is beginning at 9:00am Monday through Saturday that guests will find several-dozen scratch-made products, all served by friendly staff in a space that is clean and cozy.Well priced and happy to put a unique twist on classics, Quesitos topped in Dulce de Luche or Candied Pecans two shining examples, Lozano and team also make exquisite Cupcakes including “Oh My Guava” with a delicate Vanilla crumb beneath Cream Cheese Icing and Fruit Paste.An impressive collection considering the lack of professional training, truly a hobby turned career, Double Cake’s Cookies and Brownies are fairly basic but nonetheless well-crafted, while the Vegan Banana Mini Loaf is by any other definition a Muffin with plenty of moisture and bold aromatics.Finishing up with a Nutty Braid and “Magic Bread,” the former slightly overworked Brioche akin to a Sticky Bun, it would be best to look at its counterpart as a cousin of Mallorca thanks to the Powder Sugar dusting and yeasty notes within.

Breakfast was very delicious. Enjoy the masala tea, latte and blondie. Would recommend anyone to go and check this place out.

Used to love this place and would visit several times a week. Recently their prices were raised and the quality of items has gone down. This makes it apparent that the business is not geared towards the locals like myself, but more so at capitalizing on the money of tourists. I’d highly recommend that the bakers work on consistency and getting on the same page bc based on taste and appearance within the last 1.5 months it feels like there is a different baker weekly. Nothing ever looks or taste the same as it did the previous visit. Best of luck

Awful. Avoid. Spend $100 on a vegan cake. Totally inedible. Contacted the owner and they clearly did not care. Avoid avoid avoid. Spend your money on other places. This place does not care about your business. I can not say enough negative things about this experience. It was my wifes birthday, i ordered a cake weeks in advance. Flew into town and the cake was the texture of glue. No one was even able to finish a single slice. Avoid!!!

I ordered a cake for a loved ones birthday. The cake was absolute perfection. I had a vision for a churro cake and the staff helped me navigate which flavors, fillings, etc. Highly recommend ordering specialty cakes from Double Cake. Make sure you do so in advance!

This place is super freakin cute. I love that there’s reasonably priced coffee and espresso drinks. The praline cupcake melts in your mouth. You literally don’t need teeth to eat it. 😋

10/10. I was visiting PR for a birthday and the art on the building attracted me. I read the reviews and they were mixed, but I decided to give them a try. The service was excellent and the birthday cake was amazing. It was moist and delicious. I rented a car so I picked the cake up myself. I definitely recommend them for your bakery needs in PR.

Very disappointed. We ordered 6 cupcakes to pick-up for Mothers Day and although we get the rush in bakeries and shops to get orders done during this time, this is simply unacceptable. There was clearly a sort of reckless handling of the boxes/bags, ruining basically half of our cupcakes, one was even crumbled in half. This is what the cupcakes looked like once my mom entered the car and opened the box to check them. When we called Double Cake, the woman who answered only said: Oh well I guess that mustve happened because of our rush in here. No apology, nothing. Customer service needs to improve.

Wow! Delicious cupcakes and tarts and HEAVENLY Dulce de Leche Quesitos (cream cheese filled flaky rolled dough pastries). Cute art and decor inside and friendly folks. It was a little bit like they had never taken a multi-item order (which is odd for a place that pretty much just serves mini-desserts). Strawberry Champagne please ...sorry what? We had to say which ones we wanted two to three times. As a Spanish-speaker/lover, I have no problem with a language challenge in PR but all the flavors were in English.

Adorable cupcake & coffee shop on Loiza! I went in for 1 (rare that I get a cupcake urge) and left with 4. The service was great, packaging very nice and, sorry that I had to taste 3 of them before remembering to take a pic, cakes are delicious! I spoke to someone on the phone on the 9th of September they said to email with details. I went back and forth with ashlee via email sent flavor pic and all of the cake. Was told it could be done on the 11th. Now on sept 14, 5 days before I need it u email me saying it cannot be done. VERY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE!

When a person shares they experience please believe them. Not only did I hear bad customer service skills, as far as communicating, Solamar is not the best when it comes to that. I ordered a cake for a 45 th Birthday so they told me they were going to put number 42 ON MY Cake, then 45 in gold on top of gold drippings. When I addressed the issue twice, they never acknowledge the errors so last Friday I found a new cake baker in Carolina PR with 4.9 stars that understood everything I asked for with no problems. However when I told Double cake I read the poor communication with people from their staff, he got dismissive in which I was okay with that . I do not want to do business with people who clearly can not accept responsibility. Great customer service is everything. If that service is poor I cant eat what you serve. Instead of saying we apologize and will get this right for you, they did no such thing. Maybe I should have just ordered cupcakes, that easy . When you do business you have to be on point in all areas or people will go elsewhere. I know its not and easy task but reviews are real as to why I looked at them once my order was messed up. I can confirm now that the communication here is poor.

Definitely a great option to get freshly baked cupcakes. I have tried a couple flavors and although all were really good, the chocolate one is my favorite! Their cupcakes are just perfect: moist, tasty, not too sweet. They also have pastries options, such as quesitos, etc. which I intend to try.Also, the staff is very nice and friendly. They were really helpful when I had a couple of cupcakes delivered for a birthday.They also make birthday cakes - orders must be made with 1 day in advance.

I love the vibe of the bakery. It is also easy to get to. I loved the actual cake of the cupcakes. However, I did not enjoy the icing. I found it bland and not sweet. I ended up getting rid of the icing on the other cupcakes I had and enjoyed them as a delicious muffin!

Double Cake is the best bakery in the San Juan metro area, hands down!! An absolute “must” if you have a sweet tooth. Their cupcakes are dreamy! Moist, tasty and beautiful. Their Quesitos are unlike any others out there. I have been living in PR for six months and discovered this heavenly bakery a few days ago. I am hooked! Wonderful products, cozy place, great customer service and good prices. This is a winner. You have to try it. I recommend.

Horrible customer service! I was looking forward in trying this bakery out for my birthday cake. Since I will be in Puerto Rico and they have a great amount of good reviews. But was given the run around. I emailed them to have a cake made for my birthday. They told me to call in and provide them with a payment. So my husband called over a week ago, and left a voicemail. No one has since returned his phone call. Yesterday my mother in law called to see if she can place an order. And a woman answered the phone and wasn’t sure. So she handed the phone to another lady, and she told my mother in law they are closed and to call back Tuesday. When the hours on GOOGLE said they were open until 7pm. Mind you this was only around 4pm. They should’ve not answered the phone if that was the case. They were just making the cake ordering process super complicated.

I am not sure if the young lady behind the counter was having a bad day but... I entered the store because I saw a huge Expresso machine and I requested ice coffee. She seem bother with my request and proceed to make me a cup of hot coffee. I asked her again if she had ice coffee or cold brew since using hot coffee and putting ice makes the drink taste bitterShe responded by saying that they are not a coffee shop rather a bakery. Lesson learned..

Customer Service is sub par. I am staying in the neighborhood and walked by so I decided to try them out and have a cupcake, cause who doesn’t love a cupcake?!....I was with my service dog and the young blonde behind the counter tells me no dogs allowed. I was on a quick walk so I didn’t put my dogs vest on but I offered my service dog card. She didn’t bother to look she just said it didn’t matter, no dogs allowed. She still took my order and I sat and ate the cup cake. I didn’t have an attitude at all because I know, maybe she’s just having a bad day and I shouldn’t be mean because there is no point in ruining MY day. The cupcake was 3.00 so I pulled my card out cause since I was in a quick walk I didn’t take cash. She said there is a 5.00 limit. I said no problem just charge me the minimum. I get it cause I worked retail. She again said no there is a limit. I said, not a problem. Just charge me the minimum. She huffed and ran my card for the 3.00. I did leave her the additional 2.00 just to hopefully teach her a lesson in kindness or maybe not. 2.00 isn’t going to break my bank but they have definitely lost a customer and maybe many more because I will let anyone else I come in contact to not spend their money there. There are plenty of other places in the area with better customer service and I am happy to spend my money there.

Cute little bakery in San Juan, with creative cupcake creations. I tried the beer one, which had bacon sprinkled on top, and it was super yummy. The lemonade was also very good. Most Impressive are the cakes though. They have 4 or 5 little books, showing some of their creations, and they are absolutely amazing! Last but not least, the service there is fantastic! We will be back!

Friendly service. We got cupcakes for my birthday: sea-salt caramel, cookie dough, lime and maple-whiskey. All of them were delicious.

Friendly service . . .I called in my order not knowing or ever been to this place. it turned out good.it was a beautiful cake. i would have rated 5 stars but i wasnt impressed with the cake i paid 55 dollars for. i ordered red velvet, but a little too dry for our liking. the red velvet seemed to ne mixed with choc or something.

They say made from scratch and they mean it. The Cupcakes are simply perfect no matter t he flavor. But my surprise in Double Cake is they make the Best Hot Chocolate I have ever tasted anywhere! Im in love with it!Highly recommend you visit them.

This place is just fabulous! All the pastries are solo beautiful as well as delicious. They have a portfolio of some of their custom creations, and they are truly works of art. Make sure you check it out while youre there.I was there early on a Saturday morning just as they opened, so they hadnt started the baking for the day yet. You can watch them work through the huge window once they get started for the day.I had a passion fruit cup cake that had an intense passion fruit flavor. I was surprised at how true the flavor was. Neither the cake or topping was over sweet.Glad I dont live in that neighborhood. Id be fat and broke. :-)

Excellent cupcakes! Scratch, thoughtfully layered with diverse flavors and textures. The cookies fell a little short of expectations, as their texture seemed a bit hard and stale to me.

Cappuccino is very good. Only sweet pastry. A lot of cupcakes - havent tried as Im not a fan. Almond quesitos - must try! They are very good.

This place is an amazing dessert shop. Unlike traditional panaderías, they have all sorts of sweets that arent found anywhere else. They also serve really good tea, and the place is comfortable, like a coffee shop, with couches and low tables. A must-go.

Not a huge selection, but a very different one, and everything we had was awesome.

Quiet place, service was great. We tried macaroons and recommend them. The coffee maker is just the type where you press a button and the coffee is made there - not the full espresso maker/steamer set up. We didnt try the coffee so I cant say how good it is

Nothing too great about the place. The coffee was excellent but I wasnt too fond of the cupcakes but you can tell they are made with great quality. My wife loved it.

Magic bread is magic. Coffee is solid, too. Cafe mochas made with house made chocolate syrup.

Amazing cupcakes!

Ordered my daughter’s birthday cake from here (June 28, 2018) as we came to PR to celebrate. Let’s just say, don’t always go by “great reviews”. My cake was HORRIBLE! Not sure if it’s common in PR, but my cake icing was hard as a ROCK 🙄 I picked the cake up early (10am) and kept it on the counter in our hotel room until our 9pm reservation dinner... as I was told by the baker to keep it cool and it’s safe to leave out. I advised the restaurant to not refrigerate as well. Once they brought it out at dinner, I could not even use the cake cutter to cut the cake. Icing fell off in chunks, cake was moist with no flavor even though I ordered a strawberry buttercream filling, and that was stiff too!!I’m assuming this bakery use lard in their buttercream (yuck), that’s the only thing I can come up with...but I was highly upset with the outcome of the icing and taste. Waste of money!! I should have poked the icing before I left the bakery 🙄 #LessonLearned
